My elder sim wants to write an award winning novel(or something like that). I rarely play elder sims, and this it the first time I have seen this. My sim has all skills maxed. I made her sit at the computer to write a novel for 3 sim days and yet nothing has come of it. She also wanted to sell a master piece picture, which was no problem. She painted a picture and sold it and fullfilled that want. I do not know how to fullfill the novel want or even what the novel writeing on the computer is for. Could some one please help me.

Keep at it. It takes several days of writing. My sims have sold many novels. You may want to check out JM Pescado's novel writing progress bar hack. You can find it here:

Just scroll down to novelprogress.zip and download it. It shows a bar similar to skill bars that shows you how your novel is progressing.

When you say she sat there for three days, presumably you don't mean without breaks? It takes quite a while to write a novel and unfortunately the game gives no idea of how long is left. However, as long as the Sim has full creativity (and if they don't they can't write a bestseller or sell a masterpiece anyway), you can use a mod to give you a bar (like the skill bars) to show how long there is to go before the novel is finished, which is available here: Novel Bar mod: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/hacks/ (download novelprogress.zip). I think there's also a mod somewhere that makes sure the right Sim answers the call from the publisher, but I can't find it. You will have to ensure this yourself, because if the wrong Sim picks-up the phone, they will get credit for writing the novel. It should ring more or less as soon as the novel is finished.
Later ... LOL - You can see how long I spent looking for that second mod. I had this window open the whole time and in the meantime, someone else posted the link to the novel progress bar! It wasn't there when I started!

In order to complete anovel, it takes the same time it does to max the creativity skill. My Sim that had no creativity skills finished her novel the same time that she finished maxing her creativity skill by typing!

highly creative sims can make and sell finished paintings from an eassel or a novel from a pc. the higher the sims skill level the more you will get for the finished product. the bad thing about doing these stay at home carreres is that they can take sevral hours . a novel can take upto 30 game hours to complete.
there are also other stay at home carrers apart from novel and paintings. they are.
