View Full Version : Please don't kill me... That blasted asterisk again.

I know I asked this once already, but it was quite a while ago and we didn't know that much about how to do most things then. I'm hoping someone might have more of an idea now as to how one might get rid of the asterisk on a custom skin's swatch. If no one knows yet, is there anyone who would be willing to look into it for me? I don't have the knowledge that those who can crack the codes of this game do. Pretty please? &|

The asterisk is there to indicate it's custom content, don't think it can go.

Yes, I know what it means, but I want to remove it. We talked about it here maybe a month ago, though, and there were theories. I believe it could be hacked within either the package file or elsewhere and others thought so, as well. I'm just hoping some progress has been made with such things that might help in this case, also and, if it hasn't yet, I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to help me with it.

You know you might be onto something here. If there's a way to change the * to something more appropriate such as a site logo or some other means of identification. It would make things a little easier to figure out where it came from instead of just custom content.

That was precisely what I had in mind. I've been making swatches with my own logo in the corner, but that bloody asterisk takes up so much space. It's enormously intrusive, I find. I don't want to have to contend with both things taking up space. I just want mine there, and I could put it wherever I want, so that it works with my swatch.

I found the old topic about this.

I don't know anything about hacking either, but, it seems to me that you would have to be able to insert the items into the game in the same manner that Maxis did.
If you could find out what file Maxis stored their clothing skins, you may be able to add your own and hope that the change in package size doesn't crash the game.
But if that worked, you would have the added problem of creating an installer that would put them in that package file to preserve your logo/watermark.

I think she just wants to get rid of it. Is that right rain?

Yeah, I want to either get rid of it or replace it. I thought that, once Body Shop processed your content and packaged it, that it added it to the swatch but someone pointed out to me that it is not actually part of the image but appended to it while viewing in Body Shop or the game. They also suggested that the information might be stored in the package file. That makes sense to me. I could well imagine that there is some little tidbit of information somewhere or other within the package file that calls attention to the fact that it is custom-made and requires the asterisk. I hope that's the case because then, hopefully, it could be easily remedied.
Oh, I beg someone to figure this out for me. I am so incredibly paranoid about releasing anything of mine--even swatches--until we have some form of security in place for our creations. I know that wouldn't really stop someone from re-editing it and removing my logo and so on and so forth, but I kind of think that if I can keep my logo on my thumbnails, my things might start to become recognized and that could help. That is really why I want this, in the first place. Also, I think it'd be neat-o and funky.
