Babe77 - No. As it says, it's for Milkshape. Will not work with Blender at all.

Sorry for bother you. But I have a problem and I can't find the mistake myself.
I use MilkShape 1.8.4 and UniMesh 4.09A. But I use the german SimPE 0.66.
My problem is that the import of the x.5gd change the name like IngeJones write before. Okay I have cange it manual, but the cribgate doesn't work.
At the Model Sheet it looks like the original package. But by the Elements I miss the Morph Files... (like MorphVertexDelta etc.)
Could anybody help me to find the answer, or a tut were helpful.

magicdawnplayer-Hmmm....if you are assigning your joint for the gate to the proper vertices before you export your new mesh, it should work in game. Are you assigning your vertices for the gate to the right joint?

Thanks for you reply KevinsHope
but I'm not sure...
I have assigned the vertices to the morphmod in MilkShape befor I export and I have copy the comment from the originalpackage in.
But there a no joints in like other files...

I have check a bit. I extract the 5gd file from SimPE and import the AC4F8687-0EB5DE3B-1C050000-FFF7BB57.5gd with UniMesh 4.09A in MilkShape 1.8.4. Now I select the groups and assign the material. I haven't change anything at the mesh, but now I can only see the morphmods in the window with the texture on it and nothing else.
How could it be?
Is it a problem with the new MilkShape or my 'old' SimPE 0.66. I can't find any reason... (Perhaps it's a mistake I overlook?)
Oh, I've download the tool with OpenGL because of some errors.
But the great problem is after the import of the xxx.5gd file.

I am not sure what the problem is, Its when I click to edit a second set of vertexes it crashes. I downloaded the OPenGL drives to see if that works but no luck ><. Its always the second set, when i do a first set it works fine. I even tried it with different vertexes, i still get the same result. I even redid the mesh over to make sure i didn't have more than one set of skeletons
Any sugesstions? I currently have Unimesh Bone tool 4.09, and Milkshape 1.8.4 (and 1.8.2)

Err, the Unimesh plugins are attached to the first post in this thread right at the bottom - UniMeshPlugins.zip. But if you can't even find the link, you may want to think twice about meshing - meshing is a lot more difficult and complicated than finding an attachment link, and I fear if you can't do that without help, meshing is going to be way over your head.

I have a Mac OS X and I'm having trouble finding a meshing program that will work on my computer. The only thing I've found so far is something called meshwork - which won't open. Does anyone know of a good meshing program that is compatible with Macs?

I`m also reporting a glitch - simmilar to one alovingdiva has - my milkshape crashes when I`m assigning bone weights to my hair/body meshes. I`m also using milk shape 1.8.4.
Can anyone PLEASE take the effort of trying to solve this? :help:

This has been answered many times before, in this thread.
Two known causes are video driver issues, get the Mesa DLLs at
http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/ms3d/download.html and install them in the MilkShape program directory.
The other cause is a file that has too many bones, caused by importing multiple meshes and making the wrong choices. I will not repeat the instructions, go back through this thread and find the solutions, or just scrap that file and start over.

You are most welcome. Or, as the younger crowd says these days, No Problem! Thank you for the words of encouragement. The thread has gotten pretty large, and most of the issues people ask about are known limitations or common mistakes. If I was organized, I would just make links to the answers... most all of them are here already.

Very new to the scene, so if I've posted incorrectly please let me know. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong with my import export part of using Milkshape, but can't seem to figure it out.. I have exported GMDC from SimPe. I import it into Milkshape using Unimesh 4.09a. I edit model and export using Unimesh. File is now 50% smaller in size!!!!?? Actual size as in kb. It went from 1 mb to 500 kb. Next I tried a test. I exported GMDC and noted size of .5gd file. It is 1 mb Then I imported into Milkshape, did not edit at all, just exported it. File has shrunk. When I look at the size of the exported file.... yup shrunk by 50 %. This is driving me crazy. Any clue as to what is up? I'm using latest versions of SimPe and Milkshape. Thanks!

using the latest version of simpe, milkshape & the plugins I am having the following problem.
1) I open a simple animation using the dr. pixel base meshes
2) I choose export unimesh exporter v 4.09.
3) The only choises given are simpe file 5gd or all files.
4) I export in simpe file format.
5) I attempt to open the file in simpe.
6) I am told that simpe cannot open the file as it is only for package files.
Please advise what I am doing wrong and how it might be corrected.
Thank you

Just got this info from wes.
"the output from the exporter is always a GMDC file..simpe was a holdover from long ago. the extension was changed to 5gd. the output is the same.
what you have to do is create a package file in simpe. (file new will create an empty package). Then right click on the resource list and add the unimesh output as a new resource (use dropdown menu at bottom to choose.simpe format). You will then have to set the type, group and instance values.

Hey!
I'm converting some hair from ts2 to ts3... I always put all the hair assigned to the hair_new joint, cause I usually convert short hairs. But nowthat i want to convert longer hairs, i cant get the bone tool (vertex weighting) working!
I looked at some hairs form the game, and they look good. A pic of what i got when i try to assign it: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7808/vertexweightissue.jpg
the hair isn't half assigned to head new, and half to spine 2. Seems they mix up! I don't know whats the reason!
I asked some people else that are also convting, and they get it wornking properly! I tried reinstalling it about five times, but it still doesn't work. And its not my version, cause i have got the MS 1.8.5, and it's the latest one and the one needed to the ts3 importer/exporter plugins. (by wes)
Well, this is waht I do:
I select the group (GEOM-00) I wanna assignto the joints.
Vertex > Sims 2 UniMesh Bone Tool
Put the values I want
Comit, Apply to All, Commit All.
Then I get this ( http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7808/vertexweightissue.jpg ), like its mixed up!
Thanks in advance!! I hope someone can help me! (i googled, but didn find anything :()

Umm hey Wes :)
I just downloaded your plug-ins & I kept having problems (But I worked my way through them) I finally got them into the correct directory & I can use the import tool to import them, I haven't registered my milkshape yet though, and when I click import and on the Sims 2 plug-in, it just comes up with a message that says 'This copy is not registered! If you want to use MilkShape 3D, you should buy a registration code at http://www.milkshape3d.com.' what do I do? I have my registry code, but I can't find out how to register... or is there another way to do it now, before I register in like 27 days or so...?

I never thought I would have to post a problem in this thread, so
Here is the issue.
I have a hair mesh, saved. I make changes to Bone Weights using unimesh bone tool 4.09. I re-save my mesh with changes.
I export using unimesh. I open a new empty file. I import what I just exported.
I check the bone weights which I made before...GONE.
The bone names are there...specifically head and neck; which I am trying to split 50/50.
However, hair is now shown as 100%, and neck, while being listed is showing as 0.
Huh?
Milkshape 1.8.4.
Unimesh 4.09.
Never a problem in the past, so very puzzled.

You are aware that after 30days your trial Expires *right*...
The directory is C:\Program Files\MilkShape 3D 1.8.5 (depending on your OS and country) ,but that won help you at all, also you cannot uninstall 1.8.5 and then install 1.8.4 in hope to get an extra 30 days, this would only work on a fresh OS reinstall or a deep understanding of the registry,
If you like meshing and dont have the 30$ for the program, maybe you should try Wing3D or any other free ones...
edit:I dont feel that i'm being very helpful but there is nothing anyone can do if your trial as expire
Good luck!

MilkShape isn't free, so you're probably past the trial period. You'll have to pay for it to be able to use it.

This is not a new issue, it has been around a long time. It also manifests itself as a crash when opening a file in MilkShape. It happens when a Microsoft window is opened on top of one that uses OpenGL, and is a problem in the graphics driver. Try a different video driver, or roll back to an older one. Or, if you are using an ATI/AMD card, think about a better one.

Oh, i do indeed have a ATI(ATI Radeon™ HD 5450 1GB DDR3 graphics)
Only having these issues on the bonetool, tried to bypass the openGL but that doesn't change anything.
So it could be caused when TSRW for instance is also running?
Sometimes it works great, next moment i cant do anything with it..
WesHowe

ATI works with OpenGL, but not always reliably. I don't think they have testing OpenGL very high on their list, while DirectX, well that is most games.
Some of the other places I lurk where OpenGL is used have issues in these other applications that use OpenGL from ATI cards.
Mostly it is the drivers. Some of them work OK, then they make a new one that breaks something. I know it's a pain, but try some different ones, either older or newer. Make a note if one works better.
Besides MilkShape, Maya and a bunch of other 3D programs use OpenGL to do the mesh rendering within the program. A few, like 3DS Max, have drivers for either. But on OpenGL, with ATI cards, they sometimes crash when you put another window on top of them. It is something buried in the driver code that I cannot fix. I have experienced this in MilkShape and in Maya with ATI cards. The last few cards I have bought have been NVIDIA because of it.
Maybe since AMD took over they will improve this. Their cards are used on Macs, with OpenGL, and do not seem to have as many issues (from what I see in posts, I do not own a Mac) but those drivers are not the same as the ones for the PC.

Bloom and Wes, just FYI, I have the problem of the bone tool making Milkshape crash if I use it on my main PC which is a laptop with a built-in Intel GMA945 graphics chip. No changing to various different drivers or any other fiddling around with the settings has made a difference, and I don't have any other windows open when I'm using Milkshape either. But it all works fine on my other PC, which is a desktop with an nVidia graphics card. So I guess it has a problem with Intel graphics as well as the ones you mentioned.

Oh oh, oooooh noooooo :-(
My aging Nvdia graphics card recently died, and was replaced by a brand new AMD Radeon HD 6800 series card.
Deciding to plunge into working on a brand new mesh, I selected my vertices and went to use the Unimesh bone tool....much to my horror, as soon as I clicked on anything within the bone tool window, the Milkshape application immediately crashes to desktop.
Items checked:
There are not two skeletons.
Unimesh - latest version
Milkshape - latest prefered version (1.8.4 is what I currently use)
Tried with both older and newst AMD Radeon drivers - no change
Windows version in use - XP, all updates current
Also tried - both with AND without the Mesa dll's in the milkshape folder - no difference at all.
Am I doomed? Is there no solution? Am I the only AMD Radeon card user that meshes with Milkshape and unimesh plugins? :(
If anyone knows a real solution, please do say so. The thought of doing this one by one in extended manual edit is just not pleasant.

Like the original set, these plugins REQUIRE MilkShape 1.7.8 or higher (they run on 1.7.7, but there are skin weight related bugs in MilkShape 1.7.7 and 1.7.7a).
Please download MilkShape 1.7.8 (or later, 1.7.10 and 1.8.0 are out and work) from http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/ and then these plugins (go ahead and overwrite the ones included with the MilkShape release, then go to the next message and download the manual.
Also note there are tutorals posted in the Tutorials section both here at MTS2 about Sims2 meshing and also at the MilkShape site about using MilkShape (generic meshing). The manual describes the plugin usage, but is not a tutorial.
Changed are:
The Importer, on body meshes, will no longer import a second skeleton. It doesn't even ask anymore.
There are also four new plugins added (all of which have been available here at MTS2 for testing).
Interim Importer Update: I have rolled back the V409A3 importer, which is not feeling well and crashes, back to the V409A importer. You need only download and replace the single file. My apologies.

Are you talking about the plugin files? They're not supposed to be "opened" with MilkShape; they should be showing up as tools that you can use on your mesh files.

I think the Milkshape 3D thing tried to hack my system... it showed a little box with green numbers and a flickering on and off box thing. Is this bad...?
This was when I tried to run it....

Are you running 'FPS Limiter', by any chance? That creates a little box with green numbers flashing on and off. Milkshape doesn't do that, nor does it try to hack your system.
