Until recently I only had the original Sims 2 game. I downloaded lots of amazing objects, clothing, etc. from MTS2 and other sites, and everything worked fine, no problems. Even installed Clean Installer...
When I installed Sims 2 University, I could use neighbourhood view, create new sims, but I couldn't enter any lot, whether it was empty or occupied. When I moved my Downloads folder to another directory, everything worked fine. Is there anyway I can keep my downloads, and still enter lots??!!

Make sure you have no hacks which aren't compatible with the EPs you have. Scan your downloads folder with the clean installer and make sure you read through every thread where you got a hack to see if it is compatible with your EPs. The same goes for careers.

I had the same problem with OfB. I made sure I got rid of all my hacks, and only had recolors and new clothes and what-not, and it still did it. I ended up losing my whole neighborhood. Hope you have better luck!

Thanks for the suggestions... so if I remove all the hacks, all compatible items should show up, right? So if there are items that are not EP2 compatible does that mean they'll freeze the game, or do they just not show up in the catalogues? It's weird because even when I want to play the original Sims2, all the stuff that worked before now doesn't... it's really frustrating, and I was so happy to get University!!! :((

uni incompatible careers are usually the main reason for not being able to enter a lot.
careers compatible with uni should be ok for EPs which come after, unless there is any major alteration of career scripts
many hacks are incompatible and you will need to ensure you have the relevant updated ones
objects which are incompatible may freeze or crash your game, yes. or just not show up. make sure they are good for your game by referring to the creators sites/threads

I don't have the careers.
Here are the list of my hacks:
CoffeeCup Hack
Young Adult Walk Fix
These are the only global hacks that I have, the rest have been tested and finished.

coffecup hack is not currently compatible
there is an update for the Young Adult Walk Fix you might need

I disabled the coffeecuphack. And all the hacks that were marked in red in the Clean Installer, but there are also items higlighted in pink what exactly are those?

I removed all the hacks and I'm still unable to enter neighborhood. However the only solution is to remove the whole downloads folder.

Try to split your downloads folder in half. Put one half in your game and try the game. If it works the bad file is in the other half. If it doesn't work, split the files you have in your downloads folder in half again and try the game again. Keep on doing this until you find the bad file.
And pink files are empty files or duplicates, they should be removed.
