I just installed Nightlife. I bought two cars and a driveway, then when night came, I installed some lighting. The character heads in the Pie Menu are now very dark with only a faint light source from screen right, and the same thing happened to the family portrait in Neighborhood View.

That happened to me too, and when I did change a sims appearance with a mirror, they were still dark. Once I quit and went back to that same lot though, the darkness issue was gone and I fixed the character. I also think that it may have been due to some hacks that were Uni only and I needed the updates for NL or to just take them out. That might work too. Let us know if that works. :)

I don't have NL but that happened to me before. It only happened after I adjusted the lighting settings though (It seems I can't have anything above "low" light or else this happens. Grrr!)

Gah! That same thing has been happening to me since the base game. Now it happens whenever one of my sims returns from a date or an outing, or if s/he uses the photo booth. Or apparently if I merge households. For me it finally went away when I stuck seven dangling daylight lamps in the room. I stuck in the mirror too, but I didn't need to use it. (I'm really glad I finally got it to go away though... these things are cumulative, it would seem, so when my already darkened sim went on a date and into the photo booth, he came out with just a perfectly black outline of his head in the pie menu!!)
