Hi, I am writing to see if anyone can help me with a rather frustrating issue. I uninstalled the Sims 2 (I had the original and University installed) because it would not go past the loading screen. I had played the game for months previously with no problems. I have a Dell Inspiron XPS--a gaming computer--so hardware inadequacies are not the problem. I have been trying to reinstall the game, but when I insert the disk, the D:/ folder pops up, saying "sims2," but nothing is in the folder, and nothing else happens. No installion window. Please, can someone offer advice? I'm going to Sims withdraw. : (

First, make sure the game is completely uninstalled- manually remove any remaining sims2 folders, files and registry keys.

Then clean your discs and try to reinstall; make sure you know where you want the game files to install to if you are not using the default location.

I followed your instructions and ensured that the game was completely uninstalled from my system (it was). The game still didn't work. I then tried a manual install, thinking maybe the disk was damaged. However, I can't manually install because when I have the Sims 2 in my computer, and I open my D drive, there is nothing there. It just is titled 'Sims2 (D:)' and there are no folders or icons or anything shown. I don't know if they're of any use, but the details listed are:
Sims2 (D:)
CD drive
File System: UDF1.02
Free Space: 0 bytes
Total Size: 2.79 Gigabytes
This is a store-bought disk, not a burned one. My computer is in good shape and runs other games. I really can't figure out what the problem is, especially since I had no problems installing the first time around. Any more suggestions? Again, I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Can your disc drive read other discs? Can other drives read your sims 2 disc? It may be worth trying to clean the disc again- you can safely wash it in soapy water with a soft sponge.
If all else fails, you'll need to exchange the disc:

Yes, my drive can read other disks. I was advised by EA Games to disable my Emulation software, which is Veritas DLA. I did so, and then tried the game again. This time, the installation window did come up, to my surprise. It allowed me to choose my language and ask what kind of user I am (I selected Typical User), but then a window popped up saying: "There is not enough space available on drive to install the game. Please free up some space or change the target location to a different disk." Would you mind telling me what I should do with that? Thank you!

Make sure you are installing to the correct drive; this error message often appears if you try to install to a CD drive.
