I changed the way that the kids book looked like in game, at last I thought I did and yet it still looks like the standard kids book. Can someone tell me why this is happening?

I used object workshop in simPE and have recoloured in the past so im not 100% stupid :giggler:

Im just getting stressed now cus the book wont show.

Cheers

Ok did you clone the book like if you were making a new object? If so that's where you went wrong. In order for this particular type of thing to work you need to make a replacement default. That will mean unticking all the boxes when you clone, and not giving the book a new GUID.

Alternatively, you can clone in the normal way and make a new object, but it would have to be made into something you can buy from the catalogue instead of being taken from the bookshelf. And you probably need to change some code to stop them being able to clear it away to the bookcase otherwise you'll have to keep buying it again :)

Hmm, and I bet it reverts after they pick it up to read it. It doesn't seem like an easy project, but doable nonetheless, if you are a code modder. Maybe you could ask one of the people who already did it if you can clone from theirs instead of straight back to the maxis original, as they probably already altered the necessary code to prevent it reverting.

It won't work. As Inge has explained, the game "creates" a new book every time it is needed, and the game autonomously chooses the colour of the book, among the maxis created recolours. The books aren't buyable from the catalog, so you can't tell the game which recolour to use. The only way is to create a recolour that replaces one already existing in the game.

PS: If you have created a recolour for the book, then you should be able to use the "Design Tool" over a book already extracted from the bookcase, and you should be anble to choose a recolour for it; but as soon as the book is placed again in the bookcase, your recolour is lost, and again the sims will extract from the bookcase only Maxis-coloured books.

I mean: after you create a recolour with SimPE, and put it in the Downloads folder, then you should be able to use the game's Design Tool to change the colour of the book.
But, as said, this solution is short-lived: as soon as the book is put back in the library, the recolour is lost.
