View Full Version : Video Card Problems? Not Suported?

Hey everyone! Been around here for awhile now. I just bought a new gaming computer, got it thursday. To make it easier, I will post the link to TigerDirect for the specs on it. :) I was thinking maybe the video card was not suported. Or, the game is just too much for the computer. Which, the last one seems very unlikely. I love playing the sims 2, but who doesn't? lol... I just hate to think I spent $1000 on this computer and still CAN'T play my favorite game. I took this screen shots from "pluche56" post because it's the same thing happening to my computer. But, it does not happen after awhile of playing.
I shut my computer down after playing for about an hour and 30 minutes.
I started the computer back up about an hour later, and this is what I saw. Here is the link for the specs on the computer.

And also, "pluche56" screen shots.

If anyone has some help for me that would be great! I really don't want to sell my sims 2 stuff. But, there is no reason in having it, if I can't play.
I searched the sims 2 site to see if my video card was suported, and it's not listed. But, it is above what is there. So, I don't know. I have always been able to figure out the sims problems, not this time. All the drivers and such are updated, as they did everything before sending me the computer. Thanks for any help.
Joah
P.S. Thanks for the screen shots, Pluche56!
My 2 EP's are Nightlife and OFB.

There is no problem with hardware. I'm not an expert but maybe you need to update the drivers. I myself had a 64 mb intigrated graphics card. It stank but ran the game ok.

To me, that seems as if the drivers aren't the best ones (you may have to try different drivers, as not always the latest are the best) or overheating video card.

Make sure the computer is well ventilated and that all of the fans are working (the one on the graphics card too). Also, try some different drivers:

Perhaps you could post a screenshot from your computer also?

I can't get a screen shot of my own. I have no plans of hooking up internet to it, and sence it's a gaming computer, it has nothing installed on it. So, I don't even have a way to burn anything to a CD. Unless I take my program from this computer, burn to a CD, then load it there. And that just seems like too much work lol.. The computer is 4 days old. And they updated everything on it before shipping it. It's not overheating, the air blowing out the back is just warm, not even hot. It's well ventilated for sure. I'll post a few pictures of the inside so you guys can see how huge the fans are. I'm not looking to go back on the drivers. I installed Flight Sim 2004 and that plays perfect.

The sides have a screen in it to help keep the computer cool. Thanks, Joah.

The best way to know if your card is overheating is to download software intended to do that. I usually use RivaTuner (it's free and you can find it by googling it). All you have to do is to click on the little square next to the dialog box that says how much memory your card has, and chose the option of the film with the magnifying glass on it (harware monitoring). Leave it running for a minute or two to know how high your card gets in idle, and write down the number, then start a game while still running the hardware monitor, play for a while, alt+tab of the game and hover the mouse over the graphic to find the highest temperature it reached. I'm not too sure it is overheating, since you seem to play Flight Simulator fine, but it's still worth checking the temperature of the card.
Just another question: is your game patched? I don't know if this problem is solved by the patch, but if you haven't patched it, it won't hurt to do it.

I played The Sims 2 for a good 4 hours this morning. The longest that I've played on the new computer and I couldn't for the life of me get anything to happen. It took me the full 4 hours on a house I built. Then a little bit in the neighborhoods which lag a little, but only when I am moving around non-stop for 3-4 minutes. So, I have no clue why it messed up on me saturday night. I will update this if it happens again instead of making a new thread. It lags some after furnshing the home your building. But not enough to stop me from playing. When I have extra money, I plan on adding another gig or 2 of ram. 1gig just don't seem to cut it.
You would think a video card with 512mb of ram would make it run with NO lagging at all, but maybe it just don't support the GEForce 7300 GS I have. I am going to attach the Logs I found for the Sims 2. If any of you wouldn't mind taking a look for me, I'm pretty good on knowing the computer things, but I am bad with the Sims files. I dated the file names. 12-10-06 would be the night I had the problem, and of course 12-12-06 would be this morning when nothing at all happened.
It may sound weird, but in the files it shows the Computer Name, Bobby. My old computer, when I first got it and set it up, I was trying to think of a name for the computer, and just went with Bob, so I thought Bobby would be fitting for the new Computer.
Anyways.... The Txt files in the Zip Folder are...
AppErrors 12-10-06
AppErrors 12-12-06
AudioErrors 12-10-06
AudioErrors 12-12-06
Bobby-config-log 12-10-06
Bobby-config-log 12-12-06
I scaned it with AVG Anti-virus. All is good. :)
I'm not real sure what it's tell me in these, if anything. So, if someone here doesn't mind looking and letting me know, that would be great! And thanks for all the help, Joah
---Nadita_pt, I use Download.com to find my new programs. So I will look for that thing and check out the computer and let you know. Thanks

Does anyone here know what these Logs mean? It's still lagging some after you have the house fully built.. And just a little in the neighborhood view. From what I have read around the internet, people with a comparable computer to mine are having no problems. So, any help with the Logs would be great! Thanks, Joah.
