View Full Version : Possible problem with my sim's genetics.

Okay, so for the past few days the genetics of my sims has (have?) been acting weird.
Basically I have "Gloria" She is a black-haired sim I made in CAS. She married "Sam", a sim that was born to a black-haired father and a red-haired mother. Sam has red hair. All of Sam and Gloria's children are red haired.
A similar problem occurs when I breed blondes to brunettes. (Or reds to brunettes, or any other non brown/black combo)
In all the time I have had The Sims 2, red/blonde hair is recessive to black/brown hair.

Is this some sort of problem with my game?

If it helps, I have Nightlife and Pets installed. As for hacks, I have the InSIMenator (Seasons edition*) and InTeenimater (Pets edition)

*This problem started several days before I installed InSIMenator Seasons edition.

1) Are you having the babies all in one play session, or are you having one child, closing the game, then loading it back up and having another?

The game randomizes genetics with each load of the whole game. However, it starts at the same point each time with randomizing - so if you load the game, have a family have one child, play for a while, then close the game, and the next day do the same thing (load up, have the family have one child) those children will be identical in appearance and personality. This may be your problem.

To test and be sure, load the game, run Create a Sim, and go in to make a new sim. Hit the "randomize sim" button a dozen or so times (the exact amount doesn't matter, just hit it several times) and then load a family and have them have multiple children without closing the game. Your children should look different that way, including a greater chance for random hair colour.

2) What could also be happening is if you're using a -custom- hair, is that it is acting dominant over whatever non-custom hair you're using for the other parent. Custom hair is always dominant, while any normal hair (that shows up in the actual colour bins, not under * custom) will be recessive, regardless of the actual colour of the custom/binned hair.

3) If you have checked for the above and you still think there's something wrong with your game, you'll want to try it free of user files and custom content, thusly: http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=139718

1) Tried it.

2) Nope. I don't use custom hairs. (Never liked them.)

3) I've tried playing it clean, but that didn't help either.
