Seasons may stay black for up to multiple minutes when first started. This is not a Vista issue, but something in Seasons.
It is not actually hung, but it is preallocating resources.
On my system it takes about 5 minutes before the Seasons loading screen appears. On my sister's system it takes well over 10 minutes.

Try running in windowed mode. It could be a display settings/resolution problem.
Instructions here (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Windowed_Mode).
If it works in windowed mode but not normally, make sure your videocard drivers are up-to-date.
