View Full Version : Is anyone else running Windows Vista?

I am curious if anyone else is playing the sims with the Vista OS. My game loads lighting fast, so do neighborhoods and lots, but, my hard drive crunches the whole time I am playing and when I try to place objects everything is jumpy. It is hard to place things because they are turning around and ending up no where near where I wanted them. I had this problem before I installed any custom content. I wrote to Maxis about it and they said it is a problem with directX10 instead of 9. That seems really odd to me since upgrading directX has never caused a problem with any other games. I have created a new user account like the FAQ explained because Vista is a memory hog. The game loads in less than a minute, but the other problems still exist. Any thoughts on this matter would be welcome and I am still working on this and will post a solution if I find it.

I don't have a specific answer for you, but a quick search of the site for Windows Vista pulled up a number of hits. Lots of people are having trouble with Windows Vista and TS2. Here's just one http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=244014 with a link to the official response from EA.
Someone else may come along with a better idea. :)

Thanks for answering me. I have read the other posts and the official EA games FAQ. Fortunantly I have no problems with the graphics, like with the rain, everything looks fantastic. Hopefully, a windows update will eventually fix the problem. It is just really annoying. Not much is perfectly compatible with vista and I think making office 2007 the only office program that will work with it verges on extortion.

Are you sure it's Vista that is causing these problems? Not some hack/cheat or anything else?
I'm using Vista and DirectX10 and have no problems whatsoever.

I have Home Premium and I've had something similar happen. If I try to place a wall, the cursor goes WAY away from where I really want it. I usually have to go to top view to place it. Another problem I have is graphics. I cannot, for the life of me, play in full screen mode. When I do all mirrors, plumb bobs (sim and hood view) appear pixled. I know it's my graphic card. I have a 7300 LE and it's an official problem noted by EA and Nvidia. I just have to play in windowed mode, which is fine and wait for a fix....hopefully soon.

Is anyone else having massive studdering problems when saving or taking screenshots with Vista? If I take the first screenshot it would take a couple minutes or more just grinding frozen until it would recover, from then on it ran ok. I think it's a driver issue (even on updated drivers). One of my main reasons I left Vista;
