Every time I load the Sims the settings reset...help!

Ok so every time I run the Sims (pets, but i tried uninstalling pets and it did it with every other ep i have) it resets all the settings, e.g. graphics, and it disables custom content, which means I can never use custom content...this is the main problem. It recognises it as though I am playing a new game every time, asking me about game tips and giving me the "welcome to pets" dialogue. Anyone ever had anything similar or know how I can fix it...? I've tried deleting everything and installing from scratch. I'm running on a new iMac...completely confused about it to be honest!

It's the intel macs. The pets (http://www.macgamefiles.com/index.php) patch was supposed to fix this.

Also be sure you reinstall in the proper order, including patches (per Aspyr, each patch is specific only to the expansions in question and another EP does not fix the issues).
