View Full Version : A quick(?) bumpmap question

I have a custom shorts mesh for adult females that I want to bumpmap enable. Normally I would just clone from a bump map enabled Maxis mesh, but this one has alpha parts and, (as far as I could find with the EP's I have)my only choice seems to be the Uni flower skirt which is has no bump map. So, I guess I have two questions.

1) Is there another alpha bottom only mesh that I missed that is actually bump map enabled?

and if not

2) Is there a way for me to give it a bump map by messing around in SimPe, as long I have the comments correctly set in Milkshape?

If any kind soul could help I would be really grateful :). Thanks in advance

Yes, it's possible to bumpmap enable a mesh, even an alpha mesh.
You need to have the bumpmapping set on in the mesh itself, that info is someplace in the unimesh manual, which comment turns it on.

Then you also need a bumpmap graphic linked to your recolor/mesh properly.
I used a combination of two ancient tutorials on site - and named the bumpmap textures in the _standard way that they are usually named_ rather than the random name from the tutorial.

Can I explain exactly what I did? No. I just sort of logic'd my way through and it was a half year ago and I'm going senile lately :P Also haven't touched a bodyshop project in months.

Note these are 2 year old tutorials - but between them you will find the info you need:

Thanks so much Tig. You rock! This is my first Body Shop project in 4 months, and because Vet School has turned my brain to mush it's taking more effort than it probably should. I had the mesh finished and the comments set to enable bumpmaps in Milkshape and then I got to body shop and thought, “Hmmm where are the gray textures? I’d like there to be gray textures, but they aren’t here”.

Then I did a search which didn’t turn up what I wanted, so I started to doubt it was possible to do. Now that I have links, I’ll play around and see if I can make it work. If I get really ambitious I’ll write it down on the off chance anyone else wants to try it or I’m silly enough to want to do it again :)

Thanks again!

You can use the Hula to save you some work, it has a bumpmap and a alpha in it.
You can change some settings so it appears in everyday in the bottom section.

Or you pick a bottom that is bumpmap enabled and follow this tutorial to add a extra group for the alpha part.http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=51352
It will work quicker and easier.

Thanks to both of you. The mesh is working beautifully as far as the bump mapping goes. I initially got it working combing the two older tutorials but I must have done something wrong because the results, while looking perfect were not recolorable. I tried adding groups to an exisiting bump mapped mesh, as suggested and it was as quick and easy as promised. I thank you both for your help :)
