The only thing I have installed right now is the first Sims 2 disk set. Original or whatever its called. Ive followed your FAQ all the way through and tried all of it. Even installed the Patch. Nothing is working. The game itself loads up just fine. I can go into an already premade house that has a family in it. And play with them just fine. But no offense to anyone I would rather create my own and play with my own. That and building to me are the most enjoyable of Sims.

My problem is going into create a family. Which I can go through all the steps. Making the people eyes, clothes etc, and linking them as a family its when I click accept family is when it all freezes up and I end up having to restart my computer which is getting rather annoying. The laptop I have is a new one. Just got it about a week or so ago. My old laptop couldnt handle Sims 2 so I played Sims 1 which I enjoyed. Im looking forward to creating myself a family and playing with Sims 2. If I can ever get it to let me create. Please help me.

Your new laptop can't handle The Sims 2 either, which may be the issue if we can't find another solution.

You've tested with clean user files? Patched? Updated your graphics drivers? Reinstalled?

Whiterider's correct - you need at least a 2.0 gHz processor if you have a non T&L graphics card - you have an Integrated Intel (and not one of the supported models) so you need to have at least a 2.0 gHz processor, which you don't.

Why will it play the rest of the game but not the create a family then? that doesnt make sense to me. How would I make my processor more? I have 1.66 and what is needed is 2.0. Which is stupid to me. A brand new computer it should be able to handle anything. UGH sooo annoying this is...

It's possible it's doing something there that it needs a bit more power, and it's hitting a snag.

You probably can't upgrade it because it's a laptop. That's a case where you really should have checked the system requirements before purchasing the laptop. Just because it's new doesn't mean it should be able to handle everything you may want to do with it. That's not even a real graphics card, but an integrated chip that shares your RAM. It's more a computer for basic stuff like word processing, internet, etc. than gaming... Gaming laptops are usually -very- expensive and at least 3 times as much as you would pay for the same specs in a desktop computer.

Think of the game as a heavy load needing to be hauled - just because you purchased a new car doesn't mean that your brand new 2-door compact car can haul the same load as a couple year old 4-wheel-drive diesel-engine pickup truck.

Those specs will be fine for pretty much anything, and will stay that way for a while too. Your best option is to buy that, and hold off playing TS2 until it arrives.
