Old problem, Fixed now, same thread, different issue
____________________________________________
Hello!
Instead of:
C:\Users\NAME\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2
For my Directory, Whenever I run TS2 and Its Expansions, It has made a new directory (Not a new one every time) in:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2
So all of my Downloads, User files etc, Just get ignored and It makes the game play there!
Relatively new problem, and Probably can be sorted out in a flash! Just don't know HOW to do it!
CHECKED the Wiki, But it says that TS2 can ONLY work in "MyDocuments", so I was quite confuzzled there!
Quick Capture of My OS and Stuff, Although It probably isn't needed:

OH ALSO, BodyShop plays from this Directory too, Just in case You wondered or Needed to know!
Thanks!

The problem began a while ago, (few hours ago when I tried to run the game?)And Its never been like this, Ever! I've attempted about three times, With deleting the Spawned TS2 directory each time, But no reversion to the original folder...
I'm supposedly administrator on this account.
Although Some things get bodged up, and I have to manually run as administrator, Yet, I've been on this account the WHOLE time, with nothing changed...
I'd try that link, It could work
Changed on My PC? Installed AGSP, AND BGSP and un-installed both (see the threads for that issue)

Did it just start doing this, or has it been this way since you installed? What have you changed on your PC lately? I'm wondering if this is a Vista permissions issue.

Hmm, maybe one of the game starters has messed up a registry entry. If you can, take a look through the registry and see if you can find the one which tells the game where to look for user data. Maybe it's changed from %username%/ documents to all users/ documents or something. Also, I'd post in the AGS/ BGS threads to alert Numenor, he may be able to say whether or not this could have possibly been caused by the Game Starters, or whether I'm barking up the wrong tree!

I WOULD, but I don't know how... :wtf:
I'll send him a link to this thread, I feel like I've spammed too much on there already...
Thanks for the help BTW!

I have Vista too, but 32-bit; I don't know if this is relevant as for the Registry structure, but I hope not.
The path to the USER documents should be stored in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
under the string value "Personal".
In an normal system it should be:
"%USERPROFILE%\Documents"
but the AGS / BGS users will have the extended, explicit version:
"C:\Users\(LoginName)\Documents".
Of course, you will read under this key the path for your current login name only: do you use multiple accounts, by chance? Reading your AppFiles, I see that you run the AGS using the account "jxxx" (for security reason, I didn't write it explicitely, but you can recognize it :) ).
Is this the same account you use for playing the game, installing the AGS/BGS, running the mini-games and, now, for reading the Registry?
Another question: have you recently moved the Documents folder to a different location? The AGS expects them to be in:
C:\Users\jxxx\Documents
If you didn't change the Documents path, then you could try fixing the problem doing this:
- Double-click on the user icon on the desktop, the one that contains Documents, Music, etc.);
- Right-click on the Documents icon and select Properties;
- Select the "Path" tab;
- Click on the "Restore" button (the leftmost one) and then "Apply"
- Windows will ask if you want to move all your documents to the new location: click NO.
This should restore the Documents path to the default value.

I just "JXXX" for everything, Its my name, But I'll call it with the x's just because I should, I do have another account (Named "The Other People" and its NOT a guest account) I just never use that one of anyhting, Mostly if Someone needs to use my computer (other one is being repaired Blah Blah Blah etc.)
Also, The path to the documents folder is always acting up, Regally to the last played AGS/BGS Folder, EXTREMELY annoying, But it gets fixed, thanks for that tip (BTW, the same thing can be done from the start menu tabs, Just its called 'Location' instead.)
...What was the next thing? WAS there annother question to be awncerd? I'm confused! Ahhh! :)

Ok, I feel like a crumpet (http://probonobaker.typepad.com/probonobaker/images/crumpets_1.JPG) now...
Re-booted the game after your wise words numenor and all is fine (*gulps*)
Sorry for this whole thing, But now one problem has been sorted out, I guess we can focus on the AGS/BGS not working thing again.
I'll re-name the thread
Thankyou simsample and Numenor for helping!

Hehe, maybe it's better with Vista to reboot after resetting the patch with AGS/ BGS? Glad you got it sorted, PETCHY14- for all further problems with the starter programs it's best to continue posting in Numenor's threads. as this makes it easier for other people to find solutions or help you, too.
