View Full Version : Is there a way to give Sims custom memories?

Hey all, I was wondering if it's possible to give Sims custom memories, or maybe edit the ones they already have. I used SimPE to try and do this, but it didn't let me edit memories, only add Maxis-made ones.

It is possible, as Wintermuteai has implemented this:

You could PM him to ask.

I actually PMed that user a long while ago, but I haven't received an answer :-(

Memories are a special form of token. As such yes, it is possible to do. If you look at some of the token-related discussions they might be able to give you a bit of a head start. :)

Part of the problem is SimPE itself: After the 0.50 version, the memory editor was crippled so that it cannot display custom GUID, nor does it let you manually enter a GUID. There is no reason WHY this is so, as the feature existed back in the old version, but has been intentionally crippled for some bizarre reason. Since then, memory editation involving custom tokens has had to be done by actually writing a specific purpose-built hack to do that one specific change. Very cumbersome and unfriendly. And stupid. I have no idea why they made such an idiotic change.

No it has not been deliberately crippled. As I don't use the memory editor myself, and I apparently can't rely on experienced users like yourself to actually make genuine bug reports in the appropriate place (what passes as bug reports on the SimPE site tend to be people who can't read and don't have .Net 2.0 installed) things tend to get overlooked.

Well, SOMEBODY made the radical design decision, probably pre-Inge, to be honest, as this change occurred around 0.50 and 0.55, before PJSE, even, but basically, in the OLD days, you were able to manually enter the GUID of the memory or token, in addition to picking it from the dropdown. For some reason, this feature was removed. There is still a text entry box, but if you type a GUID into it, it ignores this and does nothing. Thus, it is impossible to input a GUID. It USED to be that furthermore, custom tokens/memories got displayed only as "---", with no GUID at all, making them totally undistinguishable, but at least SOMEBODY came to their senses and now it displays GUIDs again.
As for reports, at one point I did report this. The report was ignored, which led me to conclude that reporting anything there was a total waste of time.
And what is it with that ridiculous .NET shit? People need to stop writing shit that depends on crap nobody actually has! It is ridiculous that you should have to download an entire CD's worth of crap for what SHOULD be a relatively small program!

If Peter had been designing SimPE from the outset, the entire thing would have required Linux - and probably have had a scrolling text interface :)
He wasn't a particularly happy bunny having to use C#
However, he literally *cannot* cook, and only needed a nice macaroni cheese bake held in front of his nose, and he was bought.

Still, C# is crap. Even if you have to make it Windoze, you could do it in a REAL programming language that does not require the installation of a bajillion megs of CRAP.
