View Full Version : Cannot uninstall

I'm having a bizarre problem ever since I installed Happy Holiday Stuff. I had all the expansions up to Apartment Life (except Bon Voyage) and everything was working fine. I installed Happy Holiday Stuff and I suddenly had a bunch of bizarre bugs. I keep getting the "Stomach growling?" message when I go to make food even though the fridge is fully stocked. If I click on an empty plate I have the option to "resume cooking". I no longer have the "put leftovers away" message on a full platter of food.

I figured I'd just uninstall the holiday pack which is simple enough. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the sims a dozen times. Except it's not on my add/remove programs list. It's not under My Programs, it's not even in my registry. I restored my computer to last week, which removed the kitchen stuff pack (which i installed after i noticed the holiday problems) but it did not remove the holiday pack, so I can't even try to re-install it. When I try to re-install, it says it's already installed!

So...it's stuck in my computer or something and I'm completely out of ideas. I can't get rid of the holiday pack. Was it supposed to install with an icon like the kitchen pack did? Because it didn't.

Any advice would be great!

The Holiday pack applied more like a patch than an EP- it adds files and modifies existing files. Hence I think the only way to uninstall it would be to uninstall and reinstall the basegame. However, I don't believe this will be necessary. Check the game with a cleanly generated Sims 2 folder to see if this is caused by your user data:

The holiday pack intertwines itself with the base game. You cannot uninstall it without a total reinstall of at least the base game. As for your problems, I'm betting you have some custom content that is causing the problem. Please do this FAQ and let us know how you get on. :)

I started with a fresh Sims 2 folder and it seems to have worked! Good thing, I wanted to be able to play with the holiday pack. Thanks for your help!

Is there any way for me to know what part of my old game content caused the problem? I had reinstalled Apartment Life to see if that was the problem before I posted here. I lost my custom content but I replaced the Neighbourhood folder with my backup, and still had the issue. I guess something in that folder was bugged? Darn. Oh well, at least I can play now! :)

Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately, I lost all my custom content anyway - always back up your custom content! I will certainly use that Problem Custom Content thing in the future. :) You can consider this resolved, thanks again!

So sorry about your CC. We all need to be reminded to backup frequently. :)
