I was just wondering, I had 2 kids taken away by the social worker because they were hot. I then turned around and had one of my older sims, an adult sister, same family, adopt them. Unfortunately, they have no memories of their life prior to being adopted. Is there a way, possibly in SimPE, of restoring their memories? I already went in and re-adusted their family ties. Any help would be appreciated.

You won't be able to retrieve their memories but you can use SimPE to recreate them if you want the important ones back such as who taught them their toddler skills.
Load them up in SimPE and then select their memories tab. This lets you create, rearrange and remove memories for a Sim. I used it plenty in the past when my Sims recieved duplicate memories for whatever reason.

PolterGeist44: There is a WCIF section (http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=557) on this site, which is probably where your question would be best placed. And the glasses you are looking for are on page 8, if you search this site for "glasses" in the glasses and accessories section: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=127155

Really stupid question here:

Where is the latest version of SimPE? I looked all over that site. I have all EPs and I keep getting the message when I open it that it detected newer EPs.

(I don't even know which EPs are the newest. I guess that's what I should be asking--in what order did the EPs come out?)

I need to change Tara (DeBateau) Landgraab's last name and that of her twin children so that it's not Landgraab IV.

EDIT: Okay, just looked again...I'm guessing that the Mansions and Gardens patch is what I need, so I'm going to download it.

You need the latest version of SimPE itself, not just the M&G patch for it. That's supposed to patch the AL version of the program. And there is no point in downloading and installing the M&G patch if you don't have M&G.

Oh, okay, my stupid question/discovery:

There's a patch for M&G on SimPE? *runs off to download it* Maybe it'll stop growling at me that it's detected newer expansions now... except - *cuts herself off "Ask on SimPE site, not here, dammit!"*

Well, it will stop SimPE from complaining that you have newer expansions.

The newest release of SimPE is .73 and is posted on the front page of the site. It doesn't have an installer, though, because it's the QA release. It was deemed stable enough to call a final release.

It's been out for about a year now.

piucca, to the left of the search results screen, there are all sorts of filtering options, below the search box. You may need to click where it says "[+] Click to show filter / advanced options". To apply the filters you select, you have to scroll down and hit "Filter Downloads". Though I'd suggest heading to Site Help (http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=24) if you still need help, since this thread's for questions about the game.

I have become (unhealthily) addicted to custom content and my Downloads folder is bulging at the seams. I am a little concerned about what bugs might have been introduced along with it that could be lurking around my game.

I don't suppose anyone has made a program to find corrupted files/data in the game and delete them safely. I'm probably imagining it sort of like a virus checker lol. I'm also probably indulging in wishful thinking, but if you never ask you never learn. XD

You could probably try Delphy's Download Organizer (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=227925), because it'll at least tell you if you have orphaned/broken downloads. Beyond that, I have no clue - my idea of fixing a broken game is reinstalling...

The Hack conflict detection utility is a must if you download hacks. It doesn't delete anything, because it only shows potential conflict, not actual conflict. Or rather, it is conflicting, but it might not matter. Inteen flavor packs are designed to conflict, for example. You want them overriding the behavior they are intended to override. You can find it in the Sims 2/Programs section at simwardrobe.com

The Clean Installer will detect duplicate files, empty packages, and the like. You can scan your entire Downloads folder recursively, although it will take a while to do it. Once it's finished scanning it will give you the option to sort the list by type, and one of the types is empty packages. You can select them all and delete them, or move them somewhere else if you aren't sure they really are empty. Unfortunately, duplicates are just highlighted in pink. You still need to sort though yourself and find them.

You can also scan with SimPE if you have the patience, although it's another one that leaves it up to you to go to the directory and delete things.

I've got a really stupid one.

Are there supposed to be actual fish in aquariums? I put an aquarium in a house I built tonight, for the very first time. The I had one member of my testing family restock the thing. An animation ran that appeared to be "putting fish in tank," and after restocking I can feed and watch these non-existent fish, with appropriate animations. The "watch" one is kinda amusing. BUT there are no fish swimming around. Are there supposed to be? If so, perhaps I have a hack conflict, but before I decide whether or not it's worth it to do the find-the-conflict dance for the sake of an item that I hardly use, I thought I'd first ask if there are supposed to be fish in aquariums or if we're just supposed to imagine that there are. (It's the cheaper aquarium, BTW, not the one that looks more like a saltwater tank.)

mangaroo

There are fish in aquariums and -- if you have Seasons -- in ponds. If you see them in neither, try this: Game Help:No Fish in Fishtank or Pond.

Thanks for the above suggestions.

I have one more question. A few of my Sims annoyed me by getting bad memories of becoming a witch/warlock when I wanted them to have good ones, so I went into SimPE and changed the memories from bad to good. The memories now show up with the right text, but they still show up as red pictures. Does anyone know how to change the actual pictures to green?

Just a heads up to the useShaders cheat. I had to use it before in order to see my fish but there was a downside not mentioned in the linked article: With seasons installed ALL of my swimming pool walls would flash between blue and yellow with the cheat activated. Turn it off and they were fine.
Oh you might also notice with the cheat on that tombstones actually look more textured like they have weathered writing on them. You can't see that without shaders either.

Shaders seem to automatically turn on and off depending on the graphics card installed - my old card, I had to use the cheat to see my fishies/make the snow fade in the cursor area, but since installing the new card, I haven't had to do it.

Ok. To change the background color for a memory in simpe BACK UP THE NEIGHBORHOOD! You are editing the neighborhood memory, and corrupting it can trash the whole game. This is a minor edit, but things can go wrong.

Open the memory and select the raw data for the memory you want to change.
In the first line, 0x0000 is a green background, and 0x0004 is a red one.

You are stuck with the text, though.

Now that you mention it, I used to have fish in ponds. I took pictures of them, even. Now...I don't. Guess I just haven't bothered to notice. Same game. Same laptop with same video card. Haven't messed with the settings. So...hmph.

Oh! I did once install a mod that was supposed to change the appearance of water in neighborhood view or something, but it looked funky, so I took it out. I wonder if that turned off the shading... I will try the cheat when next I play, see if I get my fish back.

Thanks, guys!

Stupid question: is the remote control car safe to use? I remember a long time ago, there were supposedly really bad issues with it (as in, saving while sims were playing with remote control car would cause major problems, there might have been a problem with portal deletion or some such - I just remember it was a Very Bad Thing.) With a fully up-to-date, patched game, is the remote control car safe to use?

Orphan Files are custom content meshes with no recolor files, or recolors referencing a mesh you don't have.

It generally won't hurt the game to leave them in, especially since they can be extremely difficult to pinpoint in a big downloads folder, though to run the game optimally it's best not to have any useless files.

I'm not entirely sure why mine were turned off, but I haven't installed any new EPs/SPs since Freetime came out, and I had fish in ponds until quite recently. My pond fish pics that I took have a 7/09 datestamp on them. I think it was that water mod I installed and then uninstalled that tripped something. Or it was something else. :) Whatever. I turned the shaders on with the cheat and everything is fine now. Now I have to look into this user startup file thingamabob so that I don't have to turn the shaders on manually all the time...

Oh, yes, you can do that! Open Bodyshop, click on "Create or Clone a sim", choose the sim you need to edit and click on "clone" (or whatever it's called :| ). It's the little button on the lower side of the bin, near the trash. You will get a copy of the sim and you'll be able to edit him again. When you've finished, click on 'Save' and you'll get the edited version of your sim. :)

The baby won't be born until she joins a family (provided that she stays pregnant), but from what I understand female "townies" won't stay pregnant at all.

That won't happen unless you make the townie controllable while she is on the lot and unless they Try For Baby while she is controllable or you have InTeen or ACR with accidental pregnancy turned on while she is controllable. A few pages back someone purposely made a townie female pregnant and when they checked on her when she was uncontrollable again there was no pregnancy, the game had removed it. So - not gonna happen.

If you're checking for orphans with the DDO it overidentifies them. Last time I checked it had identified a bunch of clothing I knew for a fact had recolours AND meshes (I knew what the outfits were and they were showing up properly ingame and in Bodyshop) as orphans. So not everything the DDO identifies as an orphan is actually an orphan. So while people say "delete them indiscriminately" I would caution against that. Check first whether it's actually a true orphan.

Ah yeah that is what I'm using and I was surprised at the clothes it brought up. It also came up with a heap of lots it said were orphans; I moved them and all my houses vanished lol. Luckily I didn't delete them.

How do I tell if a lot or clothing item or household item etc is a real orphan?

Simpe has a scanner that looks like it should work for that, although I've never tried it because by the time I've finished loading Siimpe I've come up with something else I want to do with it instead of spending time scanning files. But if you have all the suspect files in one spot, it would make the scannnig time shorter for SimPE if you wanted to try the scanner.

(I really appreciate the decision NOT to make the tools for Sims 3 into a similar all-in-one conglomeration that loads everything all the time!)

Thanks again. I warn anyone who does use DDO that only two of my orphans turned out to be real and the rest were false alarms. So never delete any you remove, just keep them in a separate folder.

And don't move any of your lots whether they come up as duplicates or orphans. This is probably obvious to everyone except me, but worth the warning as even when I replaced them my Neighbourhood showed up empty and I was lucky I had a SimPE backup or I'd have been reinstalling. DX

My simmie has opened a florist's shop. She has a O rating and only a few customers in the shop. Sometimes all of them get stroppy when she tries any of her sales pitches. If this happens, what else can she do to boost the business? At the mo i have her running around and hugging everyone, which suits her personality, but doesn't do her business any good. Some sims will ALWAYS get stroppy if a business owner tries to sell them something, doesn't matter how great the seller is, eg in my game it was always a couple of teen boys (eg Komei something-or-other whose name I can't remember) - it's just their personality. Sometimes it's something as simple as a personality clash. Also what kind of flowers are you selling? Have you actually set them for sale? Is there good lighting in the shop? Is there enough space for them to look around? Anything else in the shop apart from selling flowers? Customer loyalty will go up if you provide a bit of entertainment for them, even something as simple as a dart board. Also friendly hugs are considered a bit forward unless your sim has actually established a high enough relationship score with the customer, so maybe do a simple "chat", "joke" or "talk about hobby" to start with.

Most important, has your sim gained any sales badges? - a gold badge will allow them to "dazzle" a customer, which is a surefire way to get them to buy. Maybe at this stage concentrate on selling to the customers to get those badges up rather than trying to socialise with them. A bronze badge will enable your sim to offer at a lower price, which buyers might appreciate; a silver badge will enable them to do a "hard sell", which is more persuasive. Some buyers will respond to a hard sell while others don't even want to be offered stuff at a discount, so it's really just interacting with them to get a feel about what they're like as a customer.

It's really just trial and error, but keep persevering!

She does the 'earthy hug' gesture, rather than the normal hug which you can only do according to your relationship with the hugee - i didn't know until i made this sim that no-one refuses the gesture hug - she can hug anybody! lol
Well she had another breakdown, but finally broke through a wall and won more sales moves / the ability to make something other than those damn daisy arrangements and a couple of money prizes, which helped enormously (she has a toilet now!) I hadn't thought of putting a dartboard or anything in the store, though the customers do constantly break into spontaneous dance moves, because of the stereo. Frankly i think they should buy some flowers and make their way to the local hoe-down.
An no, it didn't have good lighting - she could only afford one lightbulb!
Thanks for answering! :-)

How do you buy toddler clothes? I've searched and I'm sure it's probably a hack of some kind but I can't seem to find this out. I see cute toddler stuff out there so I know there must be a way. Also I'm sick to death of the ugly Maxis pj's seems like all my toddlers get ugly Christmas pj's.

When you send a Sim to purchase clothing, the selection window automatically defaults to the age group and gender of the Sim you're controlling. However, along the top of the selection window are icons indicating gender and age. Select the gender and age of the toddler you want to buy clothes for. (And if someone could post a pic to help, that would be great.)

Here's a question: Why in the world are there changing tables and toddler toys at this one community lot (I think it's in FreeTime) if you can't take babies and toddlers off the home lot?

Why does the minivan advertise its toddler sippy cup holders when you can't even put a toddler into a car?

Maybe they planned to allow toddler travel but then axed it due to time or playability issues.

You could build community lots in the base game with changing tables and toddler toys. I think they always intended it, and it never happened.

(Probably for the same reason that it's buggy when it happens in Sims 3.)

Side note: The social worker does use a repainted minivan...

Did you delete your temporary caches?

It also helps if you double check to be sure you don't have a Sims 3 package in there. The Clean Installer can help by not being able to identify it... Or Delphy's Dashboard can identify Sims 3 packs vs Sims 2 packs, although it calls Sims 2 packs "problem" files so most of your Downloads folder is going to be nicely colored and it may have a problem if it doesn't find Sims 3 at all.

There is a Bodyshop FAQ here:http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Body_Shop#Body_Shop_won.27t_run.2C_or_crashes_when_loading

(This probably should have been asked in Game help, though)

Does anybody have custom default replacements? How do they work? I know they work by replacing the default genetics or clothing texture, but I am wondering what will happen if you remove them from your Downloads folder while your Sim is wearing that specific custom texture.

It just reverts back to the Maxis versions or if you replace old defaults with new ones then you will see the new version.

No harm, no foul on changing them out. Just make sure you don't have two of the same type of defaults in your folder at the same time.

I have several eye defaults that I rotate around. Sounds weird but I like all of them and it shakes up my game a bit.

I have a family of sims in Strangetown. By the story I am writting right now, the parents died living their toddler daughter to the close family friend.

2 questions: If that friend calls the adoption services and adopts the girl, will she get his surname? Also, how can I change the girls name outside the body shop?

Use SimPE to change her name and just put her into the family friends house.

That way, you can make sure she's there and she gets what you want.

I want to change her name not surname. I prefer adoption, which is technically what he is doing. What I am asking if her surname will change if the friend adopts, because if I just move her in, she will have her old surname and she will just reside in the household.(besides, she will probably be take instantly, because of the Social Worker not letting toddlers live by themselves)

SimPE doesn't work on my laptop, so it's not an option. I think there is a way to change the name in game too.

You can use the NPC townie gun to change the first name of a Sim. I've only adopted a child once (my Sims are breeders) and they certainly took the surname of the family.

You can do this using Simblender which is also quite excellent for a number of other useful things. It's available from Simbology - here's a link to it...

KTA just finished saying that she can't run SimPE.

I believe InSim also has a "Change Name" option, and I think the Sim Adjuster using testingcheats may also have one. Both of these change the first name only - regular adoption through the phone will change their surname to the adopting parent.

IE If the adopting parents have two different last names, the one who phoned for the adoption will give their last name to the child.

For the record, SimPE -does- allow you to completely rename a sim, although it doesn't help if you can't run SimPE without having to use a Windows emulator or something. And adding a sim to the family is better with an in-game function, rather than SimPE, because it does a better job of making sure the loose ends are tied up for you.

I have a quick question about Ottomas genetics.
I know that the twins the mother is carrying will bork your game, but is it JUST the twins? I have the Sim Blender, which lets you terminate the pregnancies, so I was wondering, if i get rid of the game-programed twins, will I be able to let the mom and dad have more kids, or will all future Ottomas kids also kill my neighborhoods? If so, does that mean that ALL Ottomas genetics are messed up? Will I have similar problems if the teen son or child daughter have kids in the future? What about the dad and mom having kids with other people?

I suggest to be on the safe side not to put that Ottamas family in your hood at all as the family is definitely corrupt. Actually just to get them out of my family bin (because Samantha Ottamas once came home from work with one of my playable sims even though I've NEVER taken the family out of the bin) I put them in an empty lot, aged up the children so they could be killed and then killed off the whole family. I used the ACR adjuster just to check on Samantha's pregnancy details - it said the father was not the Ottomas husband but someone called Philip Lapierra (in my game, although this will be a random name depending on who you have in your hood - sometimes it's even a pet's name! lol). Also when I used the FFS Lot Debugger to check on their memories, all of them had corrupt memories, and that was without actually playing them!

I was reading other threads on other sites regarding the Ottamas family and several people said they messed up their game and they had to restart.

Actually I can't believe Maxi's don't check their pre-made families for corruption before unleashing them on the general public. Apparently the Seasons EP patch has sorted the problem of Peter Ottamas not being the twins' father - patch available here:-
http://thesims2.ea.com/update/getpatch.php?appVersion=1.7&variation=cd&languageCode=

(although I have say I have patched my game but it didn't have any effect on that family).

Thanks Jodemilo, I was kind of wanting to put them in, as they seemed like good drama fodder, but not at the risk of my entire game!
And I also have similar problems with the EA/Maxis patches, in that they don't seem to EVER fix anything at all--I usually have to look to the community for that. They have especially good patches and fixes on MATY (More Awesome Than You), if you're still looking for some (if you haven't checked there already, I mean).

I have the Ottomas family in my game and it hasn't burst into a big fiery ball visible from space. I mostly put them in because, as jodemilo said, Samantha was brought home as a work friend from the Sim Bin.

We had a registered copy of Free Time, and they only charged us 5 dollars plus shipping to replace our missing disc 2. If your game is registered and you are only replacing one disc it should be reasonable. (Although Seasons only had one disc, so they might charge a replacement for the whole game)

Ok so I was getting a bit annoyed with the dorms that the different campuses come with and those in the bin, and figured I would give a try at building my own. The problem is, now that the thing is built, with 9 dorm rooms (all with their own myne door), the place is considered as a place for rent, not as an actual dorm. How do I make the game consider it a dorm?

It needs the uni stove and I think there is actually a requirement for it to have at least one ceiling sprinkler. It's not enough to just have the dorm rooms, you need the dorm kitchen element, too. And once you have that, use the cheat mangaroo mentioned.

Ghost sdoj
16th May 2010, 04:32 AM
You also need the same fridge and island counters that the dorms use.

Caution: Before you change the zoning be sure you have all the doors the right way around, all the stairs in, etc. It's a lot harder to fix them when you have it turned into a dorm, and it looks really weird if you have a door backward so the community area becomes someone's private room.

New question: is there any way I can place graves on a community lot from an apartment?

Michael Broke just moved into his new pad, toting the urns of his wife and sons. I want to put them in the community graveyard, but whenever I try moving them, Michael just resets himself on the grid and nothing happens with the urns. None of the families on regular residential lots have had this problem.

Did they bork the 'move graves' option when AL was shipped??? Or is this just because they died on campus, and now he's in the regular hood again?

No way! I've built "apartment" dorms that have their own kitchens in the dorms! And they've worked fine! Although, my game is not exactly a reliable source. I doubt about the ceiling sprinkler, though, I played a dorm with a cafeteria without a sprinkler for a very long time and it didn't have any problems. (It had a fire alarm.)

I have a feeling that the answer to this is "no," but I thought I'd ask anyway. :)

The gist: I take occasional stabs at constructing an authentic-as-possible medieval manor in which the majority of residents will be serfs. In real life, serfs were generally "employed" doing all of the manual labor in the fields and mills and such that were owned sometimes by the church but that usually were under the direct control of a minor lord. So here's my question:

Is it possible to grow the Seasons crops (fruit trees and growables) on an owned community lot, such that I could have the owner/overseer "employ" serfs and have them work the fields from dusk until dawn, eventually harvesting crops. I know that flowers need tending on owned community lots, so I'm hoping that the growables will work as well.

Of course, this hinges on being able to have "employees" of the fields who will do actual work at all...unless it's possible to boolprop employees into selectability... If the crops will work, I'm hoping that maybe Paladin has something similar to his employee fishing thing (which I will use for the lord's fish ponds, of course :) ), but I'll check that out for myself.

Thanks. :)

mangaroo
18th May 2010, 03:39 AM
Seasons crops will grow on owned community lots. The challenge is going to the lot frequently enough and staying long enough to take the plants from seed to harvestable. Owned lots are saved in the last state they were in when the owner visited, so stay away during winter.

I don't know if it is possible to instruct employees to do farm work. If not, when there's weeding or watering to be done, you could use influence>garden.

iCad
18th May 2010, 03:46 AM
Ah, thank you, good Mangaroo. :) I'm going to figure out a way to have serfs as employees of a given field, each of which will be owned by an overseer. They will be tended 7 days a week, and this village's seasons is set such that there is no winter (Because winter tends to lag my computer when it snows. ). Plus, in real life, serfs did indoor jobs for the winter and I'm blanking on how I might emulate that in-game.

And Paladin does indeed have an employee gardening thing, so I THINK I'm set to go. I'll set up a test in my testing 'hood to see how it goes before I try it "for real."

Thanks so much for the quick answer!

In order to place graves, you can go to the lot and click on the bare ground, selecting "Place grave here...." and then choose whoever's grave you're moving. Personally, I don't play in apartments all that often these days..so I couldn't tell you.

I guess the problem with AL is, that fresh graves at apartment lots are send automatically to a random community lot, with a mod to a community lot of your choice, you don't need the 'move graves' option there by default.
You can still move the grave like Prosthetics said.

Yep. They were in the inventory. Somehow, I have a feeling that the fact the three of them died on campus while Michael was in university, and I'm trying to place them in a main hood lot, is why it isn't working, so I've just resigned myself to having him carry them around until his dying day.

Answering to two of the previous posts here.

To Sarasim: (re using a mod to select a gender preference for a sim)- TwoJeff's Simblender (which basically supplanted the Insimenator which is no longer supported) has an option where you can click "Traits" and "Gender preference" for a specific sim. I use Simblender all the time for various things and it's great. I put it on all my community lots for setting preferences for everyone else too - hehe

Here's a link to it - btw you need have the Pets EP or higher to be able to use it - http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php/topic,20.0.html

To maybesomethingdunno: I use Gunmod's camera mod in my game and it works very well - I've never used anything anything else personally but it's very handy for example if you want to zoom out to see the whole neighbourhood (it does other things too - you probably already have the link to it but here it is anyway . I couldn't go back to the Maxi's default camera after using it. As Gunmod advises, backup your game before installation.

Unfortunately you can't control the outfit they grow up in unless you use a particular mod object to plan an outfit ahead of their transition (the name of which I can't remember). Anyway, just get them to plan a different outfit after they grow up. You'll need a dresser for this (under Miscellaneous in the Buy objects mode). If you have custom clothes that you'd prefer your sims to wear, you'd have to go a clothes shopping lot to get them first (unless you have the coat hook mod that allows sims to get any outfit for free anytime - in the comfort of their own home! - I love that mod!)

You can also edit their hair, makeup and eyebrows using a mirror.

With toddlers, an older relative has to plan their outfits or change their appearance - you use the toddlers' changing cribs available in the Children's category.

Send the sim or a family member to buy some clothes before they age up. If there are outfits for the age group available, your sim will get these instead of the default ones.
With later EP's (can't remember when it started), sims will get random outfits when they age up.

Late to reply, I know, but yes...I guess I skimmed over that part of your post, but as young adults you can't place their graves anywhere but a university neighborhood. I don't know why, but I assume it has to do with the age groups.

That doesn't work with me (I have all EPs BTW).

I just buy the clothes ahead of time, then have them Plan Outfit. It can be done with a wardrobe--or even at the clothing store changing booth.

I hate when Toddlers have those stupid animal outfits for PJs. Whenever a baby is born, I send Mom or Dad out to get outfits for the little tyke. I like the blue PJs for boys, pink for girls...or pink and yellow for twin girls.

With base game all sims got the same outfit when they grew up or an outfit from the family wardrobe, something from their parents or siblings. With later EP's this doesn't happen anymore, they get a random outfit instead. If you exit without saving and try it again, you'll get a different outfit any time.

I've never hated taking my sim shopping, but I certainly didn't like it enough to take them shopping too often. I procrastinated a LOT, especially clothes shopping.

That all changed when I started making my sims have their own OFB businesses. Then it became fun to support one sim family by having another family shop at their store. The biggest frustration was not having a store for something my sims needed to buy. I made a list of the stores I needed each time I bought something for my sims from the buy catalog. It wasn't long before I realized how much money my sims could make so I kept making more stores/businesses.

Now I love taking my sims shopping. I had them shop from home a lot at one time, but now someone goes shopping nearly every time I play.

I had that happen too, but it started working again after I moved it to another place in the house. It seemed to me the Sims suddenly thought it wasn't accessible anymore.

Hmm that could be it because it just cancels itself out. I'll try it.. ..if I remember. :)

A couple of strange happenings...
A wicked witch shows up at a club, in a pantsuit, with no hair, and normal human skintone.
When someone calls to invite your sim out, and he agrees, they get mad at him for standing them up BEFORE the taxi arrives.
...Any insights, or suggestions?

NO you cannot get a sim pregnant if you turn off aging. I beleive it's mentioned in the manuel for Deluxe. I don't know if that changes when you have the risky pregnancy mod (probably not), but it might.

MY QUESTION
I just installed seasons and inteen. And now I have this problem where my babies scream their entire baby-hoods. HELP! It only seems to be happening with the two sets of twins I have. Does anyone know why? Both sets were born in winter; do babies just hate winter or something? Is inteen the problem? Please help me fix this, the mother and siblings are about to drop trying to take care of them.

You could try taking Inteen out and seeing what happens.
Dirty little secret- nothing will actually happen to the babies if you leave them to cry and they're in the green. Just turn the sound off!

Kailacat, DEBUG Super Duper Hug is a Maxis game-developer's testing option. It can be invoked in your game if you install then remove or disable a mod that adds social interactions. (For example, a mod that allows vampires to "feed from" or kill their victims or a mod that allows you to control townies' actions, Basically, anything that adds to the clickable menus when you have one Sim selected and click on a non-selected Sim.)

This bug can also be inherited in specific lots if you download and install a lot built by someone with such a mod in their game. (Random plea to creators: build your lots in hack-free games. Clean Installer cannot prevent this particular bug because it is caused by the absence of cc.)

* * *
hjkjr2, the first problem sounds like a cc conflict. Please use the Game Help:Game Problem FAQ to resolve.

You can get a sim pregnant and they will have the baby. However the baby will not age. I found this out when I realized "aging off" was for the whole household, and the baby was an infant for Sim weeks...

Yes, it can also be caused if you have a hack that adds socials and then disable your cc.

Okay... One last stupid question... So once I have those hacks in my game, there's no way to get them out without a SuperDuperHug happening? :( Is there any way to take them out safely? Okay, this is kind of a wierd one, it has to do with zombie ressurection. If you make a zombie (either with the ressurection phone or the batbox), and it dies, and if you bring it back using the ressurection phone, but with enough money to bring them back "fully," (i.e., the amount that a sim returns as a non-zombie) will they still be a zombie? Or will they be magically be restored as a normal sim? Will they even come back at ALL? Also, would doing something like this possibly result in borkage for some odd reason?

Yes, they will still be a zombie. I can't recall any instance (in my own game or otherwise) in which this resulted in borkage. They're safe to resurrect, but they will still be a zombie.

Does heredity play any role in Sims' personalities or are the points randomly assigned at birth?

Neerie
31st May 2010, 01:00 PM
When looking at sims in SimPe, I've noticed that under personality, there are two entries, their current personality, and one under genetic. Now how the points are assigned, I have no idea, but I sure have observed that a kid can be born rather outgoing even if both parents are quite shy when one of the parents had parents that were both very shy and extremely outgoing.

I believe it is influenced by genetics, but there is some measure of randomness to it as well. Most of my simchildren are born resembling their parents, personality-wise, but there are some interesting deviates now and then.

And in SimPE, the two are there to show what they were born with and what they actually have developed because of Encourage... interactions.

When you look at that Sim's Personality panel in the game, the white line indicates the level of whatever characteristic (like Serious/Playful) that Sim was born with.

Take the Downtownie Sim (Professional Party Guest) that has 0 points for Nice. I looked at his profile...genetic he was at around a 6 or 7 for Nice. Apparently someone encouraged him to be grouchy.

Look at Nervous Subject. He was heavily encouraged to be sloppy, mean, etc. No doubt the effects of living with Loki and Circe.

Can young adults inherit money if a relative dies? I have a guy in college who I'm planning to have inherit his father's fortune, but I've never had a parent die when the kid is still in college so I though I'd check before killing off Mum & Dad. Also, if he was in the sim bin and inherited, would he get the money then, or when he moved into a house?

mangaroo
5th Jun 2010, 01:13 PM
Unless you have a mod, inheritance in The Sims 2 isn't equal to the amount of money the deceased Sim had. It's entirely new money that comes from nowhere. A Sim who dies of old age will distribute set amounts to family and friends depending upon the aspiration state at death (platinum, gold, green). YAs can inherit: the money will be added to the household funds at their university residence (rental or dorm). Binned Sims and townies will register the inheritance when they move into a playable lot.

If you do have a mod that changes this behavior, then it would depend upon the rules assigned to the mod and you would be better off seeking an answer from the mod's creator.

Does heredity play any role in Sims' personalities or are the points randomly assigned at birth?

Well if you go by what Pescado says they work similar to CAS and are reset at the beginning of every play session. This leads to a "first born" syndrome. If your Sim gives birth in one session and you have not created any new Sims they will be an Aries. If your same Sim gives birth to a second child in another play session they will also be Aries and so on.

On his batbox there is an option to re-randomize the Sim generator. This can be done anytime prior to birth or if you like at the beginning of every play session. Essentially it's the equivalent of rolling the dice a few times in CAS.

Based on this I would say that genetics has no part in the Sims personality it's simply generated in sequence by the game.

Young adults inherit the money the next time you play them (that is if the parents die of old age). But it goes to the household funds where ever they live, so it seems sort of unfair that a roommate or dormmate will use your sim's money to do something else. If the parent is rich and you plan on killing them off some other way, one thing that I do is I'll have the parent buy the most expensive stuff and put them into the inventory, they gift it over to their young adult child and then they die. When the child moves back to the neighborhood, they sell all those expensive things and that is the wealthy inheritance that he/she receives.

Amtram
5th Jun 2010, 03:20 PM
The other thing you can do is purchase items at the University lot where the sim lives, and put them into the sim's inventory from there. The only things I'd really be concerned with gifting would be career reward items, which aren't buyable (without hacks.)

Often what I'll do is wait until a YA has graduated, move him/her back to the parents' house, and then play until the elders die. However, I very often have multiple sims in dorms who are set to graduate close to the same time, so they go on a spending spree before they move back to the neighborhood.

But based on children of Pollination Technicians, I'd say it has some effect - alien children seem more likely to have personalities at the extremes of the scale, which I always thought they inherited from the PT.

A stupid question of my own: My laptop just died and I had to get a new computer. I just finished re-installing all the EPs and SPs and realized that I accidentally installed the Teen Style Stuff Pack slightly out of order (after FT, instead of before.) Do I need to uninstall everything and re-install them in the proper order, or is it not that big a deal, since TSS is a Stuff Pack?

Actually, the personality that alien children inherit is just a mix of the parents (the pt plus the hosting sim)

The aliens genetic personality points do tend to overpower the regular sims genetic personality points, but it isn't inherent to being an alien that they're really neat, or really sloppy, or whatever.

If memory serves me right I've had college students inherit money.

(If you don't want roomies to use the money, have the Sim buy something equal to what they inherited--if they inherited 10,000, have them buy something worth that much. They can sell it once they get back to the base neighborhood.)

As Prosthetics says - no, nada, never. :)

Yes you can clone them using SimPE, even give them same characteristics, skills, etc as your original sim, but other than that they basically start over as if they are a brand new sim.

Of course we're talking about main hoods here. Sims in different subhoods within the same main neighbourhood can and will interact.

You can always download HP's Megahood or Uberhood - it has Pleasantview with Strangetown, Veronaville & the other Maxis hoods all as subhoods. So all the different families can know each other. But it would be starting from scratch, you can't turn your played hoods into it.

The reason I wanted them to interact is that I've made a sim in a neighborhood I hardly ever play, so I thought I'd use him anyway by making my other sims (from another neighborhood) interact with him so they could be friends.

What benefits are there for my sim using the hydroponic garden? It seems I've had quite a few sims plant and tend their hydroponic gardens but then as far as I can remember, the plants just disappear. I don't remember ever getting a chance to sell the plants. I don't even know what kind of plants they are growing. My sim does gain creativity points, but I'm thinking there should be more to this. It would be great if my florist could sell the hydroponic plants because it does take a lot of time to tend these plants.

So, if anyone can tell me if my sim is just wasting time, it would be great. I would prefer my sim spend that kind of time on something that earns money.

I believe that they get a job in the corresponding adult career track. If they reached the top of the teen career I believe they'd start the adult career track at level 3, or maybe 4? I think 3.

This linkage doesn't always work for custom jobs as a) there has to be both a teen/elder job and an adult version for a particular career, b) you have to have both of them in your game and c) they have to have been linked together correctly by the person who made them.

I've got something weird going on since installing OFB. When I use the option to "set uniform" either on an employee or the owner themselves it alters my Sims facial features. I've had it stretch the Sims face to where they look really bizzaro and it white's out their eyes. Really freaky. I find that in the case of the employee's if I use the SimBlender to "change appearance" then switch them back to casual clothes and then into the uniform it eliminates the missing eyes. For the owner's I can't seem to get them to look normal no matter what so I just add the uniform to their regular closet and have them change into it as an everyday option.

If I've got the face stretching going on nothing I do alters that so I just don't have the employee in a uniform. Is this some sort of glitch? I've taken a look about but didn't see anyone else reporting anything of this nature. Just to be clear it's not just in the "change" screen where they look weird but in the game itself.

Edit: Ok so I have yet another question. What happens if I remove custom eyes (not defaults) from the game? Do the Sims that have those eye colors just switch over to the defaults? Better yet what would happen if I remove custom eyes and then add geneticized eyes.

I'm assuming the default colors would be the only ones to show up and the genetics would only be for newly generated Sims.

I guess I could just add the new ones and not delete any of the custom ones but that kind of defeats the purpose of adding the genetics.

I'm assuming the default colors would be the only ones to show up and the genetics would only be for newly generated Sims.
The sims would then be "eyeless" and show the eyes that are painted onto the skintone. If they have kids, they would pass on the genetic string for the deleted eyes and until you managed to completely breed them out, you would have several generations of sims showing the eyes painted onto the skintone. They would not change to default colours. You would see the eyes painted onto the skintone while you are looking at it in-game and behind the scenes the junk genetics would get passed around until bred out. Since custom eyes are dominant above the level of the default genetics, this junk genetic information could hang around for a very long time indeed.

I know it wasn't part of the question but the same thing happens with deleted custom skintones. The sim externally shows S2 but genetically they pass on this "junk DNA" until it gets bred out after a few generations.

This is irrespective of whether the eyes/skintone is geneticised or not. All non-default eyes/skintones are treated this way by the game.

You could probably fix the DNA using SimPE, by replacing those strings with data from comparable genetics still in your game. I've never gotten that fiddly with SimPE, so just picture me flailing my arms at this point. (The easiest way would be if SimPE's Sim Surgery has an eye-only option for copying genetics from other Sims.)

I think that that happens if it's a sim that you met on vacation (a vacation destination local or a non-playable hotel guest), they can come a visit for a few days but can't just pop over.

I'm wondering if this idea would work or not. I want to have a 2nd custom hood with a medieval theme. However this will involve downloading a large amount of CC and my DL folder is already bursting at the seams. I'm thinking I could create a 2nd DL folder with the content I want to use for the 2nd hood and simply interchange it with the other depending on which hood I want to play. Would this work? Would it make any difference if I used different defaults in the 2nd folder?

My thinking is as long as I didn't open the wrong hood with the wrong folder in place then I could interchange the files and not affect either hood. Of course I could be very wrong (and frequently am) which is why I'm asking prior to trying this.

Clashfan, that should work, but if you are using token-based mods (like the banking system in Monique's computer, Inteen, ACR, the Visitor Controller, or tripsandquads), I would recommend against it. What I do is keep separate The Sims 2 folders inside my Documents/EA Games folder, and merely modify the names so the one I want to play will load while the others are ignored. Right now, for example, my EA Games folder contains:

The Sims 2
The Sims 2_BACC
The Sims 2_megahood
The Sims 2_otherstuffyoucan'treallybeinterestedin

If I want to play my megahood, I tag a descriptor (_legacy) onto the end of The Sims 2 folder and remove _megahood from the name of the megahood folder. That way, I never load a game with the wrong cc. I keep the user files for each game slimmed down by deleting all the Maxis neighborhoods, but this still takes significantly more disk space than just swapping out Downloads folders.

Mangaroo, that sounds like a much better idea, no wonder since it's what you do. ;)

If I just rename my current Sims 2 folder and then launch the game I'm assuming it would create a 2nd folder I could use for this purpose. Is that the best way to do this or should I move the folder to my desktop first?

My downloads folder is very organized so I could keep all the mods and token based items like ACR in and just move out clothes, furniture and so forth to be replaced with the themed items.

Exactly: once you rename your The Sims 2 folder, the game can't locate it and will generate a fresh set of files for your second game.

My method does have other downsides: I have to copy the userstartup.cheat into the config folder for each game. (That's the only custom file common to all my games, but you may have custom music or paintings you would need to copy multiple times.) Body Shop projects will be stored in the Projects folder of whatever subfolder you had set as The Sims 2 when you start the project (so I make a practice of doing projects with my legacy hood set as The Sims 2).

i just started playing sims 2 again. when i stopped playing, i had a problem where there would be shadows on the faces of my sims.

since i just decided to play again today, i re-installed. so far i just have the base game installed and the shadows are there. could this be a problem with the disk? =/

i wasn't sure where else to put this, and since sims 2 has been out for so long, i figured this had been solved somewhere. i tried to search for a solution, but everything i saw was inconclusive.. so yeah. help?

I was playing TS2:University and one of my college Sim had a wish to become great in campus. It has 10000 aspiration points, and plenty of influence points, so it's really impossible to want to miss. Thing is I don't know how to become "Great in Campus" and this Sim of mine is almost graduating. Any help, please?

*gasps* Mangaroo! That info about having multiple Sims 2 folders was something I was considering doing, after I learned about the regenerating folders, but I thought it would be too much of a pain and/or bad for the game. (It was after I re-enabled mods, because of the Super Duper Hug.) Stupid question but it's probably obvious, but does Scriptorium and CEP (and other executable files for sims) work for each Sims 2 folder?

mangaroo
18th Jun 2010, 07:34 AM
For the Scriptorium and CEP to work in each game, you need to copy their user files elements into each The Sims 2 folder you generate. For CEP, that's the zCEP-EXTRA folder (located directly inside The Sims 2 folder) and the _EnableColorOptionsGMND.package (in Downloads).

I don't use Scriptorium, so I don't know the name of the files you need to copy, but they're the shortcut files Scriptorium places in Downloads.

No gifts involved... and this actually happened to me last night! This time it was a completely random townie (well actually college townie). He wandered into my house & headed straight for the telly. This time though, no-one in the family knew him, or had even met him before (none of my sims have even been to college yet). Creepy.....

Okay, I'm pretty new to the forums, so I'm not sure if this question should go here, but I'll take a shot.

I keep hearing that if you starve a Sim to death and then move her with moveobjects, something really creepy happens. Like, her face looks all melted or something. I've heard it happens particularly with Samantha Ottomas.

However, I starved her twice (yes, I was trying to see what people were talking about...), moved her with the cheat, and nothing happened! So how am I supposed to get this supposedly-creepy-as-hell thing to happen? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or was the melty-face thing a glitch that was fixed in an EP?

Kailacat

Haha, I've never heard of that happening before! I don't know.

But here's my own stupid question:
How do I get rid of zombies once they are zombies? Do they die? Do they even age?

If your trying to move them to a new place and want them to keep the same furniture then stick it in their inventory. If you want to move them out leaving the house furnished then there is a mod for this. The file is called "staythingsshrub". I believe it's by Inge and that I got it at Simlogical, however I could be wrong on that as I've had it a while.

This will leave the house furnished however your Sims don't get any monetary value for those furnishings. I tend to use it when I have a problem on the lot and want to move the family in and out without having to redo the whole interior design. I also use it when my Sims are upgrading homes to leave behind bathroom and kitchen fixtures.

No, the only mod I have is SimPE, and I mostly use it to mess with genetics, such as giving Sims recessive genes for blond or red hair, and to see how much time any Elders have left.

I don't think I want my Sims to just get it on without my approval! LOL

BTW, I take it there's no conflict between SimPE and SimBlender...?

(I do have Inteenminater downloaded but not currently installed. The novelty wore off for me. I just wanted it to have college students married, but I can easily do that with SimPE--check the appropriate relationship boxes--and not have to worry about messing with the biological clock.)

Hello. I'm aware that this is a stupid question, and has nothing to do with anything, but has anyone else happened to notice a weird, cartoony little flying pig in the neighborhood view of their game? ...No, seriously. Yes, I believe the flying pig came with OFB, and its appearance is triggered by the water tower in the neighborhood.

I think the flying pig comes with OFB. I don't remember because I have a custom NH without all the animations and other NH view junk. Before that, I deleted most of the NH stuff from Veronaville. Almost everything can be deleted from the neighborhood screen, especially those animations like the pig, hot air balloons, clouds, etc. which can slow down the game.

I've been looking around for more goodies to decorate my neighborhood view, but most of it is just too modern for my old-fashioned custom NH.

I think I've finally decided to move out of the dark ages and get an expansion pack. (tardy to the party, I know). I'm thinking of going with Nightlife or Pets, given that Hot Date and Unleashed were my favorite S1 EP. Will buying one- and only one- of these give me the fabled 45 degree rotation access? Or do I absolutely need University for that?

On a related note, does there exist a complete buy/build mode list for each pack?

I have a question about the staythings shrub from Simlogical, which I use in my game. For anyone else who uses it, is that right that if you place the shrub in a house that a family have been living in for a while, then move them out and set the shrub that all things stay, the value of the house afterwards will be considerably less than when you first moved the family in? When I've moved families out, the house is then worth about half the original value, which is good I suppose for moving sims in who can't afford anything more. At first I thought the shrub hadn't worked and all the objects in it hadn't been saved, but then when I go into the lot, everything is still there.

Is it because the objects would now be considered "used" and therefore worth a lot less?

Just wondering.

Prosthetics
23rd Jun 2010, 02:22 AM
I'm not entirely sure about how the values are calculated, but the used thing could be a possibility (though it seems like an awful drop)

I think the house just drops to the value of the size of the construct, rather than the items contained within it.

(A better suited person for this question would be Inge)

Pescado mentions that the staythings shrub causes corruption in lot price. Not the kind of corruption that can break the game. Ok, I googled "Pescado staythingsshrub" to see what came up - found this MTS thread - http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=2051225

Pescado says (I quote):

"The staythings shrub has the unpleasant side effect of corrupting the value of the lot. The "safe" way to leave items in a lot is to do the following:
1. Move out.
2. Back up the lot file.
3. Visit the lot and save.
4. At some later point, drop the backup back in."

Now I don't want to post in that thread as it's very old, however I simply don't get this. If you move a sim out all the objects will automatically be deleted, so surely backing up the lot file afterwards will just back up an empty lot? can anyone enlighten me or perhaps clarify the above?

I'll test the above on the lappie version of my game anyway (where I don't mind if things go strange).

Ta!

Clashfan

Stupid question then: how do you Magic Wand a lot? :p

It's a hack from MATY that you put in the collection file. You go into the lot in build mode and put in on the lot and then remove it. It lowers the overall price of the lot. I have no idea by what percentage or how it figures out how much to reduce it. Great if you've downloaded a really pricey lot from another creator.

Took me forever to find out how to use it.

As for the staythingsshrub I only use to leave behind bathroom and kitchen stuff so I'm not so worried if that value is depreciated.
As long as it doesn't break the lot or bork my game.

OK, this is perhaps a REALLY stupid question...

Can you build without actually needing the game disk running??? I was just building some stuff on my laptop while using the disk on my other (Desktop) pc, and I was still able to build and package lots. It would be great if this is the case cos I can build stuff or check out lots I've downloaded while I'm waiting for stuff to happen on my desktop game.

Obviously I'd need the disk to fire up my laptop version first, but when I remove it to transfer to the desktop, it still seems to be ok to build (although obviously not play the actual game).
