Overview:

As the name already states, this contest is open for everybody that wants to test his / her skills in the various aspects of Simming.
You will have to do very different tasks in each rounds, but what counts in the end is the picture you do. This is not a beauty contest, this is about creativity.

All contestants will be able to do all rounds, nobody gets eliminated.

The Contestants:

Everybody that would like to take part in this contest has to chose one of the following groups, which are named after the classical elements. The group name will also give you the basic theme for rounds 1-3 (though this should not limit your creativity ;) ). Each group can have up to five contestants.
For rounds 1-3, the contestants of one group will work together. That means, that the points of all contestants of one group will be added and then divided through the number of group-members. Whichever group has the most points, is the leading one. In the last round you will work alone but if you were in the group that was leading after round 3, you will automatically receive 5 points more in round 4.

Application Round:

This round is quite basic. Please chose your group and state it clearly.
Show us three pictures with examples of what you have done with the game. This could be a house you have built, a Sim you made, some custom content you created, or something else.
Important is only that you made it and that you showcase it in an in-game-shot.
You may use any graphics program in this round to improve the picture quality (contrast etc) and to add borders but for nothing else!

Gerbera, a few questions...ok no photoshopping for the app, got it. Building/decorating doesn't really need it...will the story telling round allow ps'ing? Or creating a sim? I'm sure the final round will lol.

And..what happens if someone from a group drops out?

And...(lol)...if we choose fire for example, all our entries must have something to do with fire?

Yes, the Sim round and the storytelling round will have a certain amount of photoshopping allowed, and of course the final round as well. Maybe also the decorating round, I am not sure right now :lol:
But in no round it will be required, if you can do great work with only the game, even better :D

Well, if someone drops out (which I really hope will not happen), the group has one member less. In this case the group will still be able to work on, unless everybody from the group drops out. That's a worst-case scenario, I really hope that won't happen. :blink: I will have a better answer to this question later (I hope)

For the themes: If you choose fire, than e.g. in your building / decorating part you should work with shades of red / yellow ... And just think about what general feeling you get when you think about fire. That's what I want to see :) But I will give more details in the round instructions (for every group / theme), so I promise you won't be lost! ;)

Quick question: Are we going to be judged on our apps?

Because of the limited photoshop rule for the app, I have a limited number of already-taken pics I could use. But they aren't the best quality and/or size because they've mostly been taken for a blog. If the apps will be judged, I'll go in-game tonight though and get better pics.

I was planning on posting round one already then, so the ones who have already posted their application can start to work on that.

As it was already announced, in this round you’ll be able to show us your building and designing skills.

The Task:

Please build a small one-story house on a lot of max. 2x2 size. Include the following rooms:
kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom. Only these rooms must be in the house.
You may put kitchen and living in one room.

Now, add windows, doors, wallpapers and floors.
After you have done that, please decorate all rooms according to your group theme.
For more details, please see below.

Optional Task:

Please do some landscaping and decorate the outsides of the house. This can earn you up to three more points.

What I want to see in your entry:

1 aerial shot of the whole house
1 shot of each room – kitchen, bath, living, bedroom (if you put kitchen and living in one room, please post 2 shots of that room, one showing the kitchen area, one showing the living area)
2 shots of the outsides (only when you have done the optional task)
all shots must be at least 600x450, but max. 650x550 size

Please put the name of your team in the post title!

When you post your entry, you may add two more free shots, any angle and room. This is completely optional. However, please post them below the other pictures and clearly label them as your free shots.
They will not count for the creativity part of the judging, only the other pictures will be counted for the creativity part.
The free shots will be counted for the overall impression though.

Photoshopping:

Photoshopping is not required. You may add borders and improve the picture quality (light, contrast etc). Please do not write anything on the pictures.

What the judges will be looking for:

the team theme (Air, Earth, Fire, Water) must be clearly recognizable
you must stick to the pictures and the photoshopping rules
the overall quality of the picture (too light / too dark, blurriness, …)
the uniqueness / creativity of your pictures (unusual camera angle, unexpected decorations in your house, …)

Hints for the different teams:

Air

Air is, as you know, actually invisible. When designing your house, you should pay attention to the lighting. Big windows let lots of light in and make the room look more “airy”.
Also, you might want to use very light / pastel colors for walls, floors and furniture, along with white. Make sure that your house in not too cluttered.

Earth

This is the most “grounded” element. Colors include darker browns and all shades of green. Earth home might look highly comfortable and quite traditional, maybe even a little old-fashioned. You might want to use a lot of wood here.

Fire

Fire features the brightest colors, shades of yellow, red and orange. Homes are very lively and vibrant, probably nice for parties. Stone or dark wood floors can be used to “ground” the rest of the house.

Water

In water homes, naturally “the flow” is most important. The main color is blue, in all its shades, which can range from pastel blue to dark turquoise. Other colors are light to medium browns and everything that looks “sandy”. Homes may be a little cluttered and feature lots of different design styles in one room.



These are only hints, you do not have to stick to them as long as we can still see the theme. I really don't want to limit your creativity, I just thought I'd give those of you that are unsure some guidelines :)

This house will be the place where you'll take the pictures of your Sim in the next round, so make sure you don't delete it again after taking the pictures ;)

1) i know you said one story, but i'd really like to have my entry way to have a grand (two story) window... is it alright to have part of the house two story but not accessible? even if it were accessible, i don't think it would be very big even if it was...

SilentPsycho, wow, you are so quick! The house looks really nice, very fire-ish :D But for the aerial, please take a picture from above (when you are in buy mode and click that button that allows you to view the lot from birds view).

If you want to use the two-story windows, you can do that, just put up the outer walls for two floors but please do not make the space in the second floor accessible. You could maybe even leave the flooring for the second floor out, this way you'd get some high really rooms (like the ones I have at my appartment, they are 4,50 m high). The whole point of one-story was to ensure that your rooms are really nice and small ;)
Oh, and yes, the rooms named in the round info are the only rooms, but nothing says you can't include a dining area in the kitchen or an office area in the living room ;)

Magic, I hope to see you enter as well. You don't have to post your apps and your round 1 at the same day, take your time until the deadline :)

Just a hint: maybe you could zoom in a little more so the details are better visble ... And to avoid the grid-lines, just go in build-mode and click terrain paint, that very moment the grid lines vanish (but once you move the mouse they are back).

Water . . Theme . . . I tryed to think at the water... and I took all the posibilities.. :

White: from the water foam

Green: from the plants

Bambus /color: when I see bambus it acutaly takes me to the sea . . . sand . . .

Blue.. i used it as much as I can't and tryed not to make the room boring...

Bright brown: the sand


Oh and something I want to mention I added the curtains.. to show the flew of the water :D

Water and Air are quite the same.. there are few elements that make them different . . in my opinion

In this aerial shot, you can see the ladder takes you up to the living room, which contains a dining area. The kitchen is off the dining area, the bedroom off the living room, and the bathroom has a door from both the living room and the bedroom.

When it came to decorating, I used these ideas to tie things together: open spaces, whites, lots of blues and celestial type items for the sky, transparency, and green and light woods for the tree canopy, since it's a treehouse!

I personally don't mind others adding whatever pictures they feel appropriate for their designs, just because entire houses can have nooks and crannies that can look awesome, but aren't easy to fit into one picture per area. (Within reason, I doubt I need fifteen pics of anyone's bathroom to get a good idea of it.)

So I voted yes, and not just because I had an extra bedroom pic, I can easily take that out...I thought the picture guidelines were more to let us know that you wanted to see each room and that they weren't limitations as such. :) Same with the original room suggestions, too, actually...at first, I took it that the house had to have those four rooms to be a house, not that we could only have those four rooms in the house--I'm glad someone asked about that before I started building.

Okay...I *THINK* I've managed to get done with the requirements for this round. I just realized how come I don't normally do house decorating contests. Rather than mix all kinds of reds, yellows and oranges together, I did something of a mix for the main part of the house and then separated the bedroom into reds and bath into yellows to break things up a bit. Also, I realize the pictures are somewhat dark, which was intentional. Hoping to "set things aglow".

Well I've learned 2 things this round:
1) I LOVE interior decorating(even if it does stress me out a little:rofl: )
2) I don't like planting/landscaping anymore in game than I do in real life(I don't like it at all in real life:lol: )

*rethinks her decision to join the competition* All I can say is...WOW! The entries here are amazing! I hope to be able to do HALF as well with mine. Suddenly, I realize how much I miss being able to go on CC sprees (having had to go back to dial-up). Good luck everyone...and I will try my hardest to get my stuff in on time. The one day I planned to devote my day to my entry we had a gas leak and had to evacuate my house until it was fixed. So...the deadline would be...3pm US Central time then?

Coldfloral ~ Love your use of plants around the house, they maybe it look quite tropical.

Destain ~ Love the waterfall area :) And the blues around the house are very calming - cant wait to see the last few pics!

Foolin ~ The Patio and Bedroom pics looks great! The first few could maybe be sharpened and brightened to make them look lighter and hence more Airy. The bathroom is nice, however in bathroom pics it is a good idea to show a toilet and bath clearly.
