Well, lucky you it appears as if everything that you have come to know and love is slowly falling apart. Say goodbye to the luxuries you once knew and hello to Armageddon. Don't you wish though, that you had one last chance to have some fun before you died? Thanks to Ground Zero Survival Inc., you can! After making so much money with their various Apocalypse related survival items, they have decided to run a contest to see who the best survivor out there is. You will be tested on how well you can adapt to your new surroundings and dodge anything nature throws at you.

So, do you think you have what it takes to survive the End?

RULES:
1.) Follow all SC2 Forum rules, Contest rules, and picture sizes. (you may link to pictures)
2.) You may have any species, I really don’t care
3.) You may have any ages, just make sure you have a logical explanation why a toddler is running around naked through radiation and still managing to survive.
4.) You may have any “End Of the World” disaster scenario. Whatever floats your boat, whether that be a nuclear winter or a zombie invasion.
5.) Please no verbal abuse to anyone. If you are a repeat offender of this rule, you will be thrown out of the contest.
6.) Photoshopping is allowed, but try not to overdo it.
7.) No stealing, if I find out you stole anything, I will hunt you down.
8.) One application per user. You are not allowed to enter more than one sim as the ultimate survivor.
9.) Have fun!

Each round will be graded in four areas: Writing (15 pts), Pictures (15 pts), Creativity (5 pts) and the Bonus (5 pts). Pictures and Writing are worth the most points, so if you stink at one, you still have a shot at the other. There will be NO eliminations for this contest so if you botch one round, you can still recover.

You're more than welcome! YAY It's open! This is a very original and creative concept, something the contest section would love to see i'm sure.

If you get enough apps I can be a judge for you. If time goes by and you need apps, I'll be willing to participate. I'd love to see this succeed.

GOOD LUCK :D

I might join... two questions. About how many pics you reckon would be required per round, and how long would the rounds be? Thank you!

Game Shark
8th Feb 2008, 3:47 AM
rounds would require a bare minimum of two pictures, and rounds would be five days in length.

I am sorry, I should have had that in the first post.

EDIT: I meant four day, I apologize again. If I somehow managed to get all ten competetors in less than five days, then each round would be five days.

Good one! But isn't it more wise to allow photoshopping to get effects? i know there are hacks out there to put sims on fire, flies and smoke, downloading ugly trees and terrain. One can find all hacks in Sisaly's thread who unfortunately is closed.

Not necessarily. The disaster is your choice. Its really up to they contestant what they want to do, so if everyone wanted to.

Name: Mikaela Badassone
Age: 25
Short Bio: Mikaela has spent the majority of her life being let down, kicked around, and shat on. She grew to find out that everything she thought was true in this world wasn't. She became despondent and angry. Then the sky turned red, the water dried up and 'they' came. Mikaela had two choices; live in fear and become even more pathetic by accepting what was given to her, or take her life in her own hands, and her aggression out on zombies faces. She chose the latter.

Roger Rowling
Age: 17
Hometown: Somerset, NJ, USA

Roger has always been one of the upper class. Coming from a good family and loving environment Roger can be somewhat naïve when it comes to the way the world works. Not that it matters much since there are virtually no problems still existing in era. Roger is a fairly calm, quiet individual. Intelligent and on occasion somewhat daring for his age he’s generally a good person all and all. Roger tends to be both determined and stubborn at times but so far this has never really caused him and real problems. Roger is often considered one of the most forgiving and understanding people one can ever meet. This of course has worked in his favor many times and probably will continue to help him in the future.

Disaster: Welcome to the year 2149 A.D. where society and culture have reached their inevitable peak. Even though things may look the same don’t be fooled, mankind is on the brink of being at the pinnacle of evolution. Everyone over the age of 20 is inserted with so many machines that there brains process information and thought in seconds or less. There is no more death, no more old age, and little pain for anyone living over the age of 20. It’s not long before humanity comes up with a way to give these benefits to people under the age of 20 also. Yes the future seems to be quite bright… Crime hasn’t existed for years. In this day and age “poor” and “middle class” are almost the same thing no one suffers starvation or disease, the worst suffering most people experience is having to wait for the price of the newest game system to drop. Yeah things are great in the year 2149 A.D. Or at least they were anyway.
One day the world’s governments and the majority of its people decide that living is a little too “easy”. After all once you’ve hit evolutions peak where do you go from there? Well, the answer is obvious, extinction. Since dieing is no easy task anymore governments began studying different ways to kill the world almost god-like people. The US government was the first to discover a way and begins to test it out by offering it to its citizens. When they find their method works the suicide frenzy begins.
Well Roger has just one problem with all this… he’s decided he doesn’t WANT to die.

What disaster is the sim experiencing?
Five years ago a deadly, man-made virus was accidently released in central Europe. There was no anti-dote, no cure. It spread faster than any known virus, and within 18 months 95% of the world was infected and with a mortality rate of 98% the world population plummeted to less than 7 million. JJ and her family travelled to the mountains hoping to avoid the virus, JJ was the unlucky one... she survived...

I am not sure I understand, but the application phase/round entries can be as long as you want them to be.

As long as you think that it is good enough. That means if you have a short round entry, but you think its awesome go ahead and submit it.

Name: April Raine
Age: 20
Short Bio: It happened a long time ago, I barely remember the time before The Watchers and memories of my childhood are more guesses than anything. Did I have siblings? What about pets? I don't know. I remember I had parents. I know they were doctors, because we lived through the purge. I don't know what happened to them though. Maybe the sickness took them, maybe they were old enough they were "Chosen for paradise". I know they're gone now. I have only The Colony.

What disaster is the sim experiencing?
It started in 2010, after we did away with presidents and answered only to The Watchers. They pumped antibiotics into our water and food. They circulated it through the air systems. It was suppose to make us immune, but it didn't. Some couldn't take it, they died. Most others were sterile. People panicked and tried to escape, I don't know where they thought they could go. The Watchers boxed them in. No planes, no boats, no cars. You go where we say, do what your told. We give you a a schedule, a job, a life. Our country was a prison.
History taught us it's never a good idea to expect too many people to live in too small a space. Illness came. The old, young and weak died first. People begged them for help. The Watchers developed an immunization. They had enough for everyone, but not everyone got it. Only the strongest, smartest and most important got it. Your a doctor? good. A politician? OK. A construction worker, sales clerk, or unemployed? Sorry. People called it The Purge.
A band of rebels called Truth came. They promised a new start, new rules. They helped people escape. Everyone cheered for them. Truth infiltrated The Watchers. Some of them were killed, but not enough. Truth was captured and the members executed. No one cheered anymore, they only hid. That's what were doing now. Hiding, surviving, but not living.

Name: Reyna Sparrow
Age: 17
Short Bio: Reyna grew up in a very small rural town and needed a summer job that was not working on the family farm. She could only deal with the barnyard stink and manure shoveling of cows, sheep and chickens for so long. The next best thing was a job at the local tiny Burger Queen, where the only things that moo’ed there were the excessively undercooked double patty melts. She worked her way up to Assistant Manager and the early opening shift by showing up on time and occasionally washing her hands. One very early morning, all alone in the Burger Queen, she heard a loud banging on the thick glass front doors and a low bone-chilling “Moooooooooooooo…”.

Short Bio: Thierry hasn't got much to boast about when it comes to life experiences. Eldest son by two minutes (hes a twin), he's spent the last 20 years living a rather mundane existance which to be honest he thoroughly enjoyed. Those lazy slacker days ended abruptly however when it happened.

What disaster is the sim experiencing? While the world worried about global warming and terrorism an unexpected threat to humanity lurked: The search for eternal youth. We've all heard about "anti-aging secrets": chemical peels, face lifts and vast amounts of lotions and potions but that wasn't enough for some. Mounting pressures on scientists to create the ultimate elixer, strong enough to make a 50 year old look 17 again. Yes, vanity had turned to insanity...
Scientists, in a rush created what so many had clamoured for but before they could test the product on the appropriate cute animals, demands for its mass manufaction began. Bottling began for "éternelle jeunesse" on an industrial scale. Little did the scientists know that when the delicately fragranced "éternelle jeunesse" entered the designer diamond incrusted bottle it reacted and became foul smelling and corossive. It wasn't long before reports all of the world began emerging of the product burning through flesh right to the bone or people choking to death on the fumes. Before the product could be taken off the shelves, the worst happened. The 6 factories world wide entered melt down and tonnes of people were burnt alive as "éternelle jeunesse" flowed like laver. And how did Thierry survive? He lay asleep in a hammock that fateful day, hoisted high above the ground so no one could see where he was to avade working. As he slept, his village as well much the world was wiped out, but not everyone. Those who had demanded the product so fiercely managed to survive, seeing as they were more botox and silicone then human but they had survived at a price. They roam the streets now, looking for unscaved survivers.

No one ever really knew, even though it took a year for the infection to completely overtake the world. The United Simlish Government controlled the media, internet and all forms of communication from city to city. Strangetown is said to be where the virus began and it slowly spread outwards from there. The infection has lasted for 5 years now, resulting in a huge fall in human population. Up to 10% of human population were 'killed' in the first weeks of infection. Outbreaks ins reasonable sized communities resulted in about 80% of them turning into the undead. The blue-grey cannabalistic ghouls which stagger from noise to noise, with no signs of thought or any human qualities other than the need for consumption, consumption of human flesh.

Short Bio: I lived a pretty normal life up until 2012, when I was 16. World War III started, and life got very bad, very fast. Millions of people all over the world died, the economy flopped and millions more ended up homeless. My mother was a scientist and was working on some biochemical warfare. I don't know many details because it was all kept top secret. One day she brought home a small box, and inside of it was a syringe. She said I had to take it, and that she didn't know how much longer she'd be around. I was really confused and upset, I had never seen her so anxious before. Mom gave me the shot, and it made me feel very woozy. I believe I fainted because when I woke up, everything was changed.
My mother was dead. I don't know how long I was out. I heard screams and gunshots outside, so I stayed in. Then I started seeing them. At first I thought they were survivors of whatever had killed everyone. I saw one outside and was considering approaching her, but then I witnessed something horrid. She was circling a corpse, and with a crazed look in her eye, I watched her eat pieces of it.
It's been three years now and almost everyone I've seen is a cannibal now. I don't know if they're dead or alive. They're kind of zonked out of it, seem to have no rational thought and from what I gather, they sleep together in large groups. I can only go out at night, as they go out during the day to hunt.

Hometown: I live in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Is there still time to apply? I've been thinking of entering a contest like this ever since I got the new model poses hack off MTS2. What is the application due date? Is there a limit on applicants?

So yes, there still is time to apply. No, no limit just fill out the specified info.

[A self portrait done in an underground parking lot, yikes I look bad!]

Name: Veronica Regina Edwards.
Age: 24
Hometown: The late Melbourne Australia.
Short Bio: Veronica born into a world of plenty, her world. Although her parents died whilst she was young, Veronica was left with a little brother, although orphans they always seemed to get back up no matter what knocked them down. They seemed to do a lot of getting back up. Rich as they were, there was always one problem or another. That was until this year, things started to look up for Veronica, she lander a very nice job with a designer and got started on her own line of formal wear.
What disaster is the sim experiencing? That's the thing, she doesn't know. Maybe somewhere deep down she does but at this point all she knows is that the building she was in collapsed and she was the only one left alive, or anywhere. Every trace of human life was gone, the only thing left was this wierd coloured dust that kept falling from the sky.

First off, I want to apologize to teh judges. I told them to make questions and while I only know of one who did it, I don't like wasting anyone's time. I was going to include several questions composes by teh judges for Round one, but since applications are still open it would not make sense. I don't know. I apologize again.

Thank you everyone for joining, Applications are still open through Round 1. This will be open for 4 days.

I am still looking for prizes and emergancy judges.

The Calm Before The Storm

I know it's a cliché, but I say that it is indeed the calm before the storm that lets you know that danger's coming.
-J.D., Scubs

Whether people knew disaster would happen in only a matter of time, or nobody saw it coming we know there must have been a moment right before it happened where everything was O.K. for a bit. The last dance, the final hours, whatever you want to call it. We know it happened. Detail with us the final moments before all hell broke loose. Don’t be afraid to tell us about it.

BONUS ROUND!

While trying to remain amoung the living you see something out of the corner of your eye. You turn to see what it is and witness a depressing scene. A man is seriously injured, dragging himself across the ground and crying uncontrollably. You could help this stranger, leave him to die or maybe even put him out of his misery. Its your choice. There could be serious repercussions whatever you choose. Detail with 1-2 pictures what you do in this situation.

Calm before the storm

"Mom I can guarantee you she took it... I don’t even have to be there.... I bet you $500.00 she took it... Oh, and her word is really something you can trust. Are you kidding me? ... wai.... wait... mom... mom... moooomm... She’s done this type of thing before but your automatic reaction is, ‘I think Justin’s got a key to this house’. Are you serious? How long can you continue to blame him? They aren’t even dating anymore!... When are things ever going to be Casey’s fault?... No of course you can’t. Fine. If you find it let me know. I’m gonna go to bed now but call me in the morning ok?... Ok... I love you too... Bye." Mikaela hung up the phone and brushed the hair out of her eyes. It made her blood boil that her sister had turned out to be such a piece of shit. Casey didn’t seem to care about anyone but herself and her mother was letting her walk all over her. If only Mikaela didn’t live so far away she’d march right up to that house and beat the crap out of her... or a least she’d try... ok she’d probably get her ass kicked and make a fool out of herself.
‘I know I could make her cry though... I’m good with words,’ Mikaela thought. Did she want to make her cry though or was she just mad? Would it make any difference? She’d probably just deflect everything by repeating, "whatever, whatever, whatever" over and over so she didn’t hear it. No... Casey would probably use that to top of her list of why life isn’t fair for her... stupid... immature... bi... ‘Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz’

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e176/ooxlilyxoo/mikaelasleep.jpg

"Hello?"

Mikaela lightly tapped on the door which was already ajar and it slowly eased open. The white room would have been empty were it not for a lone chair sitting in the middle of the room and a security camera perched in the corner.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e176/ooxlilyxoo/mikaelaroom.jpg

Mikaela focused her attention on the camera and said,
"I... I think I’m supposed meet... ahh well I’m not sure but I’m supposed to be here" It was then that she realized, yes, she was supposed to be here. Weird. This felt more right than anything and she wasn’t afraid. She heard the door click closed behind her and quickly spun around to find an incredibly handsome, yet familiar face staring back at her. The door she came from was gone.

"Hello Mikaela." He said quietly, " I can tell that you’re confused." Her eyes narrowed as she studied him more closely. Where did she know him from? It was strange that he seemed to know her so intimately... and she him. Her instinct was to run and hug him and lose herself in his warm embrace but she had no idea why. She couldn’t let on about her apparent love for someone she couldn’t even name so she said,
"Who the fuck are you?" His lips curled into a sly smile as he spread his hands and said, "You haven’t changed a bit have you? Think Mika. I know you remember some of me." She shook her head.
"Well, it will come to you in time. My name is Colin and I’m here to tell you about a journey you must take. Things are about to change drastically and you play a very important role in the out come."
Mikaela laughed.
"Ok, before with the white room and all I thought I was dreaming but now with this ‘Quest’ crap I know I am... so continue. I haven’t had a good dream in a while." Colin smirked and continued.
"Humanity has taken a turn for the worst. All the hatred and selfishness has collected and formed it’s own... army if you will. This army is attacking all that is good in this world and converting it’s power to destructive forces."

"Right," said Mikaela "... let me guess I’m the only one who can stop it?"

"No you’re not. But you’re the only one who will." His eyes never left hers as he moved closer to her so they were nearly touching. A shiver went down her spine.
"And why might I do that?" never one to back down, she stepped closer so they were touching.

"Because you love me." and he bent down a kissed her. The shiver in her spine reverberated till both their souls were buzzing into one. His hands felt so good holding her and he smelled so familiar and lovely. She wanted nothing more than to stay there forever embracing her other half. She was whole.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e176/ooxlilyxoo/mikaelakiss.jpg

Then the phone rang.

"Goddamn it!!!" She shouted as she picked up the phone.
"Hello!?" It was her mother. "Mom I just had THE weirdest dream".

Bonus
Colin had been right about what he had told her. Who he actually was and how she knew him was still a mystery to Mikaela but he was right, so she trusted him. A few days after that dream the sky began to take on a pinkish hue. The weather man attributed it to, "A strange phenomenon where the atmosphere is rich in compounds which preferentially absorb blue light." Mikaela didn’t buy it though because it seemed to be making people hostile and withdrawn. With each passing day the sky turned a darker shade of red and people began to lose their humanity. They were like animals. Animals with the ability to hate. People stopped showing up at work and the world slowed to a stop. A select few people seemed to be unaffected and Mikaela was one of them. Mikaela tired of just waiting around for something to happen so she ventured outside to see if she could find some weapons to defend herself. The hostiles would attack each other with reckless abandon. They were territorial so if you stepped to close to their domain they would rip you to shreds. You had to be careful about these beings because they retained their intelligence after they changed and could fool you into trying to help them while they made you their next meal.

Early one morning she was returning from getting supplies when she spotted a hostile badly beaten and crawling along the ground towards her house. Shouldering her gun, she kept it aimed directly for it’s head. She approached it slowly and realized it was a man. This made her all the more apprehensive because he looked strong. She had to get past him to get back into her house. The hostile must have heard her because he flipped his head around and stared directly into her eyes. Mikaela's knees went weak.

"Colin?!" She cried. He smiled. She dropped the gun and ran to him. He had deep gashes in his flesh and his face was covered in blood. One leg seemed to be broken cause it jutted out at an unnatural angle.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e176/ooxlilyxoo/colinnmika.jpg

"Mika.." he coughed. "I thought I’d stop by to see how you were doing?"

"Oh my God Colin... What is happening? What happened to you? You were right! You were right all along something very bad is going on and I’m scared. I’ve been thinking about what you said in the dream but I can’t figure out what I’m supposed to do." Tears began to collect in her eyes. "Are you alright? Here let me help you up. It’s not far to my door. I could carry you and get you inside safely."

"No I think here is fine. I just wanted to see you before I left."

"What do you mean? These open wounds are pretty deep and you’re bleeding badly. We have to get you some help. There is still a little gas in my car..." he put up a bloody hand to shush her and stared straight into her eyes.

"I’ll see you again. You’ve got a lot of work to do. I was coming to tell you I can’t help you. No one can. Now that seems kind of silly cause I obviously can't." She turned her head away from him while she wiped her tears. It was horrible to see him like this. It was like a part of her was dying.

"Mikaela look at me. This is very important. You know that old saying, ‘Everything happens for a reason?’"

"Yes" she sobbed.

"Well it’s true. So this needs to happen. I need to die and I need you to provide me with an exit. That’s why you brought your gun."

"What?!? You’re crazy. I brought my gun for protection against the hostiles! I’m not even sure who you are but I feel this profound connection to you. I could never take your life. It feels like I’d be killing part of myself."

"You’re instinct is right Mika you would be. But it needs to happen this way. Besides," he wheezed, "if you don’t do it soon the hostiles will be here and they’ll have both of us." Mikaela looked around for any sign of them and shook her head.

"No... I’ll just get you into the house and..."

"I’M DEAD WEIGHT MIKA!" He shouted "I’d only weigh you down. Don’t worry my sweet. It has to be this way. I’ll always be with you. Please Mika. I’m in so much pain. It took every last ounce of me to get away from the hostiles but I’m sure they can follow a blood trail." Figures appeared running over a hill in the distance.

"They’re coming baby. I need you to do it now. Please. I love you."

"But its not fair..." she whispered and put her lips to his bloody forehead. There was that shiver again. She reveled in it a while before standing and grabbing her gun. Her hands were quivering and for a moment she worried she couldn’t pull the trigger. The hostiles were only a few yards away now, so time was short.

"I better see you again or you’re going to be in big trouble" Teary eyed she found his head with her scope. Colin forced a smile and closed his eyes.

"I love you" Mikaela whispered as she pulled the trigger. When the bullet met with his skull there was a sickening crack and a huge, blinding flash of light that groaned and rolled out as far as she could see. Mikaela remained unaffected but the hostiles were incinerated where they stood. She knelt down next to what was left of Colin’s body began to pray.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e176/ooxlilyxoo/Praymika.jpg

"I promise I won’t let you down baby." then she wiped the tears from her face and looked to the sky and said,

"I’m ready"

Bio & What Happened:
I suppose I wasn't a "normal" child. My brother was my parents' pride and joy. I was the baby, and never really taken seriously. But I knew something sinister was about to happen, and on my 17th birthday, it did.
I always knew they would come for us, one day. There were probably others who knew, but I never met them until it had already happened. After all, it was inevitable.
The Social Bunnies attacked!
Everyone always took them for granted, and that was their fatal error. For, who could say what a Social Bunny's motives truly were? When they broke out of their service buildings and wreaked havoc upon communities world-wide on that fateful day, we all knew that Sims had made a terrible mistake.
I took it upon myself to find out what that mistake was, and to try and fix it.

Early Saturday morning Reyna wiped the sleep crud from her eyes and slapped the alarm clock off. It was time for the opening shift. She didn't mind the early hours, she'd been doing chores before sunrise since she was strong enough to steady the steering wheel on the feeding truck and tall enough to reach the clutch. If she didn't make money then there would be no college and no escape from this little town of 300 people. Life had been very tough since the dairy had started to fail. The cows just were not producing enough to justify keeping the farm going. "That's too depressing this early in the morning," she thought, then yawned and jumped into the shower.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/sleepyeyes.jpg

The rest of the family was out and about on the farm. There was a note on the table reminding her dad to call for more groceries. Dad never did anything without a note.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/pouringmilk.jpg

Reyna groggily poured herself a bowl of cereal and then sniffed the milk... http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/retch.jpg
It smelled odd, she retched a little in spite of herself, perhaps she was getting one of those dairy allergies after all those years of exposure. She looked up at the clock, knew instantly she was going to be late and chucked the milk back into the fridge.

Reyna put on her uniform and tied back her hair. She hopped into her beat up truck, started to pull out and stopped.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/backingup.jpg

She noticed that the grocery delivery service truck was here and she double-checked her blindspot. On the way to work she noticed that every house had at least one delivery van parked in front of it.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/deliverytruck.jpg

Reyna shrugged and sped away, looking out for the town's lone motorcycle cop and his radar gun. Her review was approaching and she didn't want a late day to mess up her raise...

BONUS ROUND:
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/panic.jpg
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/listen.jpg

Reyna comforted the beaten and bleeding man, and the man moaned, "The Dairy Council! They are mad..." and died.

What do the old guys at the Benevolent Order of Bovines (B.O.B) have to do with this? She runs back into the Burger Queen, keys jangling to call 911. There is only a busy signal...

Round 1 Roger Rowlings You know I never expected it… never once did the thought that this could happen ever cross my mind. You know though, if you think about it, does any one expect bad things to happen to them? Not really, or at least I never do. I suppose I should have seen it coming, it wasn’t like it wasn’t obvious. I guess I’m sort of like the idiot who parks in the middle of the train track when they know the train is coming. It was shown in the news, talked about on every street corner, my parents and I even had conversations about it at dinner, the mass suicide that is. When the UN announced that there would be a worldwide poll on whether or not people felt that we had reach evolution’s peak, people began to be abuzz about it. Most people seemed to feel we had, or at least just about had, reached evolution’s end even before the poll results were in.

Every adult these days is so wired up with computer chips and various other things that they feel no pain, never age past their late twenties, think almost as fast as the speed of light, and suffer no mental diseases. For the adults of this age everything was numbers and logic. “Feelings” are more like program errors in the human brain then they are anything else. Most children seemed to have adopted this attitude to despite the fact that all the computer chips and such have yet to be installed in them. Very few of us believe emotions are a “good” thing. If you think you’re “feeling” something there’s always a drug to fix that. Truthfully there is no such thing as “good” or “bad” in the world any more; you can’t prove “good” or “bad” with 1 and 0’s so these things have been replaced with fact, as cold and unemotional as possible.

That’s kind of how it was when everyone decided to end it all. There was no thought of things like “sadness” or “sorrow” only fact. The facts of course were the polls that came back from the UN; they were reported everywhere, talked about on every corner, studied again and again. Man had decided we had hit the end of evolution. Like the end of a good novel there’s only one thing left to do, close the book. At least that was the solution that people came up with. Everyone talked about but no one knew how. Oh sure, killing the children of the world would be easy enough since no one had ever figured out how to wire there brains up with computers the were in essence still imperfect beings, ordinary humans, but the adults weren’t like that. By the time you were an adult you were super human, “god-like” in a way, so killing you’re self was no easy task. Those computers in you’re brain were designed to be almost impossible to destroy.

The world was in a race at that point, a race to design the perfect method of suicide. It was the United States that solved the problem first. The US had decided that its citizens should be allowed to be the first to go and offered their solution to anyone who would take it. That’s how it all started, everything that lead up to that fateful day, the day when everything I knew decided to die.

My Parents were doing what they normally do that morning....

My parents were doing what they normally do that morning, dad was busy writing about something, mother was studying, I was playing video games. Yes, it’s true; my last normal day was wasted on video games. My mother looked like she was just about to finish the book when the phone rang and my mother ran over to answer it. Apparently it are neighbors the Bartons because my mother seemed to get very excited, they way she usually does when they call.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/xtyculupbe.jpg
My mother always seemed to get excited when Miss Barton calls.

My family has been “friends” (If that even exists to adults anymore) with the Bartons for as long as I can remember. I used to play with their daughter Lisa all the time when I was little, even now we’re still best friends…. well I like her a little more than just friends but I don’t think she feels the same. Miss Bartons was never really married but had a daughter anyway. This of course isn’t really scorned in society these days since it’s not really “logical” to do so, in-fact it’s actually quite common really. They were always really nice people, I thought so anyway. When I was little Miss Barton would always tell Lisa and I stories about how things used to be. They were kind of scary, people always fearing death, illnesses that would wipe out tons of people at a time. Sometimes they would even give me nightmares! Her stories were always fascinating though. Death is really an interesting concept, very mysterious and frightening. I’m sorry I guess I’m rambling.

Even now we're best friends.

Anyway, my mother seemed to be very excited about something Miss Barton said but I couldn’t figure out exactly what that was. Next thing I know mother was inviting them over so that we could do it together. What it was exactly I had no idea at the time. I guess it didn’t really hit me until after everything was said and done that it was a group suicide. I remember being sort of excited to see Lisa again. I was kind of bored that day and I was thinking maybe the two of us could go to the movies, or the mall, or something. When my mother hung up the she walked over to my father and whispered something in his ear. He stood up right away and walked into the dining room and sat down to wait for the Bartons to arrive. It was probably one of the weirdest things I had ever seen my father do. I was a very awkward and foreign action to me, like it was a reaction coming from some sort of alien or something. I tried to figure out what it meant, but I couldn’t, I just couldn’t interpret it at all. Mother pulled a chair over to the window and stared. That was weird to. I couldn’t really understand what was going on. The only thing I could understand was this intense feeling of excitement and anticipation, like something big was about to happen.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/eacqxkeyhl.jpg
Mother pulled a chair over to the window and stared.

When Miss Barton finally did show up Lisa was nowhere to be found. My mother of course addressed this fact the moment she answered the door.
“Where’s Lisa?”
“She told me she would rather do it alone.”
“Alone? Why?”
“I don’t really know. You know how teenagers are they make no sense. It’s not like it’s unusual for a teenager to act strangely, I just let her do what she wanted, whatever. It’s not like it makes any difference anyway, now does it?”
“No I suppose not but I was thinking her presence would make this whole thing easier on Roger though.”
“I thought so to, but she just told me she knew it wouldn’t.”
“Well, I guess there’s nothing we can do about it. My husband is waiting in the kitchen for us to begin. Did you get enough for everyone?”
“Yes of course. The medicine for children seems to be a bit different then ours though. I left some of it with Lisa of course.”
“I’m not surprised it’s a different medicine after all there not all wired up like we are. Roger will you join us in the dining room?”

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/sbppvfgseb.jpg
When Miss Barton finally did show up Lisa was nowhere to be found.

I saved my game and went into the dining room. Everyone was waiting impatiently for me there. Everyone had a glass of water and a small pill out in front of him or her. There of course was a set up in front of an empty seat waiting for me with a sinister air of a viper waiting to strike. I sat down in the empty seat and stared at everyone sitting at the table. I couldn’t think I just zoned out, it was the weirdest feeling anyone could ever imagine.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/etmseoetoc.jpg
I sat down in the empty seat and stared at everyone sitting at the table.

“Roger you looked confused. Do you understand what we are doing here?” My mother asked me in a voice imitating kindness.
“No, I really don’t understand. What are we doing here?”
“We are completing our evolution.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“When we take these pills our evolution will be complete. Mankind will go through the last stage of evolution, extinction.”
“Extinction? You mean death?”
“Yes.”
“I believe in the old days they used to call it suicide.” Miss Barton, telling me her last story about the old days. Before this I had never heard of the word suicide, what an evil word. “Suicide of course is an extinct word in our dialect now but it’s the closet word to what we’re about to do.”
“What?!” At this point I was more than a little upset. This feeling I had never felt before in my entire life just rushed through out my entire body. I felt my heart start pumping so hard it slammed up and down in my chest, I was sure everyone could hear it there was no way they couldn’t. I think this is the feeling Miss Barton used to tell me about in her stories when I was little; it used to be called fear.
“What’s wrong Roger?” My mother with her computer generated sympathetic talk.
“I don’t want to die!”
“Don’t be ridicules son. This is the logical conclusion, you shouldn’t just defy logic.”
“The Hell I shouldn’t!”
“Roger, stop this right now.” You would think my mother was saying this with anger but it was more like a calm reasoning voice. I don’t think she had the capacity to feel any thing but calm reasoning.
“No, I’m not doing this, it’s crazy!”
“No Roger it’s really not.”

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/opjyiusvzv.jpg
“What?!”

I knew then that they weren’t going to change their minds. I was scared, I was scared of the decision I was about to make, the decision to keep living. I knew I would be alone, probably for the rest of my life. I can’t even tell you what made me decide to live, I just did.

“You’re right mom. I guess I was just letting my emotions get to me.”
“It’s okay. I remember how hard it was to think logically before I had my chips installed, it happens.”
“You know mom I think it would probably be best if we all took our medicines at our own pace.” I was shaking horribly as I said this. I was hoping mom wouldn’t notice, praying to the god’s from Miss Barton’s stories.
“You see now you’re thinking logically again.”
She seemed to like that idea and went along with it. I just sat there and watched as everyone at the table swallowed their pills, each time their head would slam onto the table as I watched their life leave them. I felt something I hadn’t felt in years. They felt like warm seawater as they flowed down my face, I was crying.

Bonus
My whole body became heavy. Everything about my body tired me, even holding my head up was a struggle I could barely manage. I laid my head down so my forehead rested on the edge of the table and just stared at the floor crying. It seemed like it was eternity, and eternity was hell forever, when I saw something move beside me out of the corner of my eye. I struggled to lift my head slowly. It was my father who had been sitting beside me convulsing in hideous manner. He fell backward into a table directly behind him hitting his head loudly. The table tipped over and landed on him as he twisted in inhuman ways. I jumped out of my chair backing away in horror at the sight before me.
The blood poured down my father’s face as he crawled toward me. When he finally got close enough to me that he could almost touch the tips of my feet he looked up at me. His face had a hideous look of blind pain, like he couldn’t really think anymore, like the brain dead from Miss Barton’s stories, all he could feel was what looked like incredible pain. His eyes begged to me, I couldn’t even look at them it hurt me too much. I turned me face away from him. What could I do? It looked like all the computers and things inside him were malfunctioning in such a horrendous way.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/lqtfyagzmk.jpg
The blood poured down my father’s face as he crawled toward me.

I just walked over to the swords displayed above the fireplace in the dining room and took one, walked over to my father. I lifted up the sword as high as I could above my head and dropped down on his neck, without thinking about it. The sound of his spine being cut into two drowned out any thoughts I might have had at the time. His head rolled to it’s resting point not to far from its body. There was blood everywhere around him. I felt sick to my stomach, but not you’re normal cold kind of sick, this one was from just feeling so… upset. Someone had ended my father’s pain for him, I wonder though who’s going to end mine?

Round 1: The Calm Before the Storm

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2052/2272485053_18919ccae0.jpg
March 4th. A drizzly, cold morning. Woke up in my ultra-girly bed, in my ultra-girly PJs, in my ultra-girly room. Whenever I asked my parents to change my bedroom, I always got the same thing: "Why would you want to change it? It's already so nice!" There wasn't much point arguing with them. They'd just ask me if there was something the matter, something deeper I was concerned about. They couldn't fathom the idea that I might simply want to grow up a bit. Oh well.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2026/2272485055_ba32304747.jpg
This was laid out for me to wear. On birthdays and special occasions like this, I try to appease my parents. It is a little disturbing, though. I mean, where do they have to shop to find clothes like this in my size? Thank God I'm home-schooled.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2022/2272485057_4fdfbde250.jpg
They set a cake in front of me and Dad took a picture. "Smile for the camera, baby girl!" I tried. But the absurdity of it all was really too much. I'm not that good of an actress.

Round 1: Bonus

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2272/2272485063_70d815a9e4.jpg
Early one morning, I was wandering around in an abandoned part of town, looking for something I could use as a weapon to defend myself if the Social Bunnies ever crossed my path, when I found this guy. He was unconscious, but he came to when I shook his shoulder.
"Are you alive?"
"Mmm... wha...? Oh god, Jake! No, no, no...!"
He tried to lift himself up, but he was too weak and distraught, so he started crying uncontrollably. I sighed and shook my head, but something compelled me to be more compassionate that I might be normally.
"Who's Jake?"
"My... my little brother... They took him! Oh god..."
This was interesting. The Bunnies took a kid with them? I thought they just destroyed everything. This meant they might actually have some sort of purpose. I decided to bring the guy inside and clean him up, try to get more information. I propped him up and got him into some old warehouse with some effort. Tried to wipe the blood off his face as best as I could with my sleeves dipped in rain water, then we took a nap. It was noon when we woke up.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2107/2272485083_acb084363f.jpg
"So, what's your name?"
"Joe. Joe Walsh."
"I'm Rachel Bavolio. The Social Bunnies beat you up like that?"
"Yeah," he said, then started laughing loudly. "Hahahahahaha! Haha, I'm sorry, it just sounds so stupid! Hahaha, ha ha... ha... Oh god, what the hell went wrong? What are we supposed to do...?" Now he started crying again.
I grabbed Joe's shoulders and looked up into his face. "Look, this is no time for feeling sorry for yourself. We've got to figure out what happened, and maybe try to fix it. We can't change the past. We've just got to deal with it, okay?"
He nodded. "Yeah, you're right."
"Good."
Silence.
"Hey, I know a place nearby that should have some guns we can use," said Joe.
"You do? See, that's a good start! Let's go."

Where everything started huh? I guess I could say that it started with global warming, or that it started when some divinity let the bath drain too quickly. I'm not good with that sort of thing, so I'll tell you about the last while before everything started getting damp. And soaked. And generally full of water. Stupid floods.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_94c1ffe5.jpg
I had just gotten back from my sisters rehersal dinner for her wedding. She was horrendously excited, but cheap little wuss that she is she wouldn't spring for a proper meal. So sitting around in a big poofy dress practicing speeches and... eating take out from Burger King.

I got home and was all set to camp out on the sofa 'til my lovely sister was about to walk down the aisle, then make a mad dash to the chapel, careen around the doorway and take a seat in the back. Unfortunately my sister decided to call me rather than let me get hypnotized by various reruns of medical dramas on television.
"Arry? How'd you think it went?"
"Sissy, it went fine, food was greasy but what do you expect?"
"You don't think... y'know?"
"No Sis, I don't know, good night."

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_54c2001c.jpg
I hung up before she could get more than a sigh in edgewise. My sister was not the sharpest implement in the shed. I made it a point to phrase it like that so she wouldn't smack me. You just have to love people that don't realize what the word "implement" means.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_d4c20084.jpg
I finally sat down to watch TV, and was quite comfortable. I must have dozed off for a few minutes, the next thing I knew it was raining. Don't get me wrong, a little rain doesn't scare me, even though it almost never rains here. Nosirreebob, even after all that's happened a little rain wont disturb me! Ever! At all! Well, maybe just a little. That's now, this is then, and I didn't care all that much.

When my show ended the whole place was eerily quiet. I live by myself, but there's always some noise... neighborhood kids egging houses, stray dogs fighting, drunks singing, birds singing and the occasional howling cat. South Umbridge is not a quiet place. So I was a bit disturbed when there was no sound but the blowing wind and rain pattering on the side of the house.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_d4c2011a.jpg
I got up very slowly. There was a crackle in the air, and I glided to glance out the window. There I stood. And blinked. Twice. Where my yard had been was blue water. Where the town had been was more blue water. Where the distant hills had been was blue water. I reckoned that if I went to grab a set of binoculars everything would be empty blue water. I backed up slowly, carefully, deciding then to make a break for it, look for help.

I suppose I was in some sort of shock. I mean, my house was right up on a hill, but the town wasn't that shallow, it just didn't seem like it could sink so easily. Carefully I decided to take a change of clothes or two, a cooler and my dad's camping tent. After dropping all this in the boat house I realized I should probably change. I waded out of the knee deep water in the boat house and walked back intot he house. All of a sudden it shook. Violently.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_d4c20202.jpg
I darted back into the living room and nearly collapsed in shock. Some wave had slammed into the side of the house, and the two side walls were gone, sunk, submerged, whatever word you want to use. I was paralyzed staring at the scene. Waves lapped another hill, this one in the far distance. There was a huge profusion of stars in the night sky, but the scene seemed lit oddly. Like a fantasy, a dream, a hallucination. There was a spit of land still where I was, and the new sea seemed calm. I figured I had time to grab a radio, change and get an espresso machine. Silly stupid me.

BONUS
Ooh... hypothetical situations. Never have been my strong suit. If someone else was floating on this huge void, then I would help them, at least at first. I wouldn't be able to live with myself otherwise, I jsut wasn't rasied that way, nosireebob. Also, it gets very lonely floating, floating, floating, with no companionship but the fish. So I would let their boat or raft or whatever pull up next to mine.

Apparently this hypothetical soul is sick and bleeding. I brought nothing in the way of first aid, and the sea keeps flowing around. Depending on how well provisioned they were I would help them til they were well, or until they had a chance, however slim, of survival. I wouldn't keep them with me for the long run though- feeding other people is wretchedly inefficient.

The Calm Before The Storm

It was a Saturday morning, just like any other Saturday morning. JJ and her family sat round the kitchen table, discussing their plans for the day ahead. The TV was on in the background, for the morning news. Her father used to work for the government, and since the outbreak of the deadly Blue Pox virus in Austria he'd taken a keen interest in the latest developments. However, they felt safe enough, living in the UK, surrounded by water. The government had suspended all flights and ferries for the past 3 months and there had been no signs of the disease reaching their shores, people were beginning to relax, things were returning to normal.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sur3.jpg

JJ was going into town shopping with her best friend Alicia that afternoon, they were going to pick out new outfits for Alicia's 16th Birthday Party, it was going to be the event of the year.
"Oh my god!" her mum mumbled, weakly. "Look!" she said pointing towards the television.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sur2.jpg

"We interrupt this programme to bring you a news flash. Early this morning 27 people from Dover were confirmed to be infected with the Blue Pox virus, 19 are in a serious condition. A 25 mile quarantine zone has been set up around the area and all travel is prohibited."

My father rose to his feet, "We're going to the cabin, go pack now!" he announced.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sur1.jpg

Bonus

JJ was busy chopping logs when she first heard Lobo barking. At first she thought he was chasing a squirrel, his favourite pastime, but when the barking turned to a deep growl she went to investigate, taking the axe with her. She rounded the corner of the cabin and was shocked to see a figure crawling towards her. Her first instinct was to run over and help him, but she held back, years of her father's paranoid training kicking in. She approached slowly, axe at the ready in case he tried to attack her.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sur5.jpg

As she got closer she could see the tell-tale blue spots on his skin, he had the virus. She laid down the axe and carefully helped him into the cabin, laying him on a bed. She got some water from the well and wiped away the dirt and blood, he would have to take his chances, just like she had. There was nothing to do but wait.

I was trying to get the photos to have a dreamlike quality to them. Not my best work but...

Then

Adrian DeMourn sat at the kitchen table eating her breakfast. Her mother sat across from her, poking at her pancakes, barely aware that Adrian was even in the room. It had been like this for quite some time, but it had gotten progressively worse the past few weeks.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f158/ctripp924/breakfasttable.jpg

Elizabeth DeMourn was a head scientist at Pepperville Technologies, Inc. Ever since the war had started, there had been whispers of a chemical warfare happening. Rumors that the other countries were planning to release some kind of deadly toxin, but no one knew exactly what it did. Each person had a more horrific story about it then the next. Truth was, no one really knew, yet they had to try to prepare for it somehow.
Watching her mother stare into the maple syrup, Adrian felt the bitterness she had been feeling grow. Everyone had been talking about the end of the world and all her mother could do was work, work, work. You would think if it really were the end of the world her mother would want to spend some time at home instead of being at that stupid lab all day. She was certain of one thing: If her father were here he would know what to do.
She scooted back from the table and headed to her room. She had better things to do than be ignored.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f158/ctripp924/adrianleave.jpg

Elizabeth heard a door slam and snapped out of the trance like state she had been in. Adrian wasn't at the table anymore. She sighed, put the dishes in the sink and grabbed her keys.
Hearing her mother's car leave the driveway, Adrian sighed. Today would be just like every other day. She would curl up in her room with her cat Halo, and listen to music. Maybe paint a little. And definitely be alone.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f158/ctripp924/adrianroom.jpg

Now

Sitting outside on a tree stump, Adrian put her head into her hands and started to cry. If she had known it would be her last day with her mother maybe she would have told her she loved her before she left for work that day. Maybe she would have gave her a hug. Maybe- what was that?
Adrian leaped up, startled and looked around. Something was coming out of the woods. Something bloody...

.... A man. Hurt badly.
"The cannibals must have gotten to him." Adrian thought to herself. She wondered if maybe he could be saved, but judging by his injuries, he couldn't be. "That figures, I see someone who's not a cannibal and he's dying."
She walked to the shed with a heavy heart, got what she needed and stood in front of the man. She sighed and....

ROUND1
They say to understand the present you must look to the past.
My past does not exist so the present will be my map of reference.
I was created by scienctist's for one reason only, to be used as a weapon.
Whether it was as a weapon to help mankind or destroy it is unknown.
Before me there were many protypes but I was the only success until
even I became a failure in the eyes of my creators. My goal was to carry out and execute whatever mission I was given. To question my superiors or my mission was not what one did especially if one did not want to be destroyed. Too bad I learned that lesson the hard way. As the saying goes expericene and life can be a [email protected]#$h.

DECEMBER 13TH 2025.
This is a day that shall forever be remembered by me.
This was the day that my world changed forever. It was also the day that this machine accepted it's humanity over mehcanics. My greatest flaw finally began my greatest saving grace in my eyes.

THE MISSION: TOP SECRET
LOCATION: UNIMPORTANT
ADDRESS: 5 LEXINGTON AVE
TIME: 20.00 hrs.
TARGET: EXTREMINATE

I knew what needed to be done. Only one person ever walks away from my missions but that day there were three who walked away. Myself and two survilans. Those two individuals would later play an important role in what was to come.

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1001/clp119copy3ao0.jpg

Sizzle: "Hurry up and let's go. Take only the things that you can carry and absolutely need."
Dr. Garrison: "David we need to leave now. I'll explain everything later. Just be glad there will be a later."
David: "Alright dad but when we reach where ever it is we're going I wanna know the truth!"
Sizzle: "We have 5mintue to get out. Please save the kodack moment for another time, perferably when we've reached safety and don't have the army after us."

To say that my only unsuccessful mission caused repercussions is an understatement.
Those who created me gave orders to destroy me. Enter the creation of
THE ULTIMATE MACHINE the second success and exit THE ULTIMATE WEAPON.
I am a highly trained weapon unlike any thing you have ever seen. I was trained to blend in and
assimluate and that's what I did. I'm extremely good at what I do just ask my superiors.
Once word reached me that there was a bounty on my head to extreminate a complete overhaul became necessary. I compeletely changed my looks, and did highly intensive training of every and anything that I didn't learned under the tutelage of the scientists. I finally became what my creators wanted me to be, THE ULTIMATE WEAPON.You can't kill what you can't destroy.

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3789/clp130hs8.jpg

SEPTEMBER 20th 2099 and I'm still in plain site. I've also been keeping my eyes on the same scientists that created me. You have to understand once they were successful in creating me there was eventually going to be more superior machines like me or better. This would prove to be the scienctists downfall. Apparently the scientist didn't expect the machines to try to take over. When you have something of superior intelligence being conrtolled by people they deem as inferior there will always be a shift is the roles.

NOVEMBER 1st 2099 the complete annihilation of all the scientists by the very machine they created and the takeover of the government.

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1299/clp133fm9.jpg

Dr.Garrison: "Sizzle we need your help. I know it's alot to ask but it's the truth. Without you mankind is done for."
Sizzle: " I warned them what would happen when they decided to make another weapon. They didn't listen now they need me to save the world. Fine for you doc I'll do it and for David but they better don't push their luck any further than that."

BONUS ROUND

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9109/clp103wh5.jpg

Sizzle: "David...David? What the hell happened to you"
David: " Sizz help me...(cough) I need a doctor *faints*
Sizzle: " let me just put my weapon down and I'll carry you to safety but later you're gonna tell me what happen. Hopefully there'll be a lata."

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8319/clp100vo4.jpg

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/479/clp126dq0.jpg

I went out looking for survivors after the Doc came to see me, then the army and then special ops. I seem to be fearly popular all of a sudden. So far I haven't found any survivors at all. *cough* What's that? *Scans area* Well what do ya know there goes my first survivor. Hopefully it's not too late to save them.
David: *coughs* thank goodness you got to me when you did or I wouldn't have made it sizz.'
Sizzle: "yeah now that you've regained consciousness you can tell me what happened."
David: "THAT machine is what happened. I tried to save a few people and it apparently didn't like that so it came after me. She also left me half alive as a message to you sizz. She says that there's no way you'll ever beat her and she's looking forward to destroying you herself."
Sizzle: "Geez what happened to e-mail if she wanted to send me a message that's the fasest route. Don't worry david I won't let anything happen to you, yeah and thanks for the message."

that's it for now. whoa I'm beat. going to bed now. night all.

Round One is closed! Unfortunately, we lost a few people but majority are still left.

Wow.... you people must be like..... cockroaches to still be living. We are suprised, our head of Public Relations bet $20 that at least half of you would be dead by the Second Round. Anyways, here is Round 2!
Confrontation

Quote to be inserted here

We at Ground Zero Inc., know from first hand experience that it is impossible to avoid your disaster forever. Soon enough, you will be faced with it and whatever you choose will mean life or death. You must have at least one experience when you have to face the horror that you have tried so hard to avoid. Show us in 3-6 Pictures how you confront your greatest enemy when all is on the line.

Bonus Round
If you killed or let the man die.... - Someone or Something is very unhappy at you for killing him and now are willing to do anything to kill you in turn. You are going to have to save yourself from whatever it is.

If you saved the man...... - After all the help you have given him, he decides to turn on you. He says he doesn't want to, but he has to. Its eat or be eaten now, and he doesn't want to take any chances. You better think of something quick or you are going to die.

If you didn't do the bonus round - You let the guy die a horrible, slow, painful death. Nice going.

Round One

It's hard to remember life before everything went so wrong. I was a child when it all began, I'm not sure how old I was, but I couldn't have been older then nine or ten.
The first thing I remember is the gossip. It was a warm day, probably in the fall, and I was at the playground. A couple of parents near by were whispering nervously near by and, being the nosy little child I was, I snuck closer. I had to strain to hear them over the yells and screams of the kids, and even then I only caught a few scattered words. The mentioned the name of the president that had just been assassinated and something called The Watchers. I didn't understand what they meant or why they looked so worried, but it wouldn't be long before I would understand.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd1-1.jpg
Not long after that, I found out what The Watchers were. There were announcements all over the TV, radio and billboards about how instead of electing a new president, we were to be governed by The National Committee of Protection and Services. It didn't take long for everyone to start calling them The Watchers.
Security cameras started appearing all over the place. It got so bad that you couldn't even go into a public bathroom without seeing a camera. Next, they started pumping antibiotics into our water and food. A national curfew was announced too, all citizens were to be in their homes by ten pm.
This started to annoy people. Being watched, pumped full of involuntary vitamins and medications, and now being told that even adults had a bedtime. It was around that time that the first wave of sickness hit.
At first, it seemed to be just a powerful flu But with one difference, it was immune to medications. People tried everything, from Tylenol to penicillin, but nothing worked. And worse, everything you took made the sickness stronger. No one could figure out what it was or how to fix it. People were scared.
I was still young enough to be naive. I didn't see how bad it was, and couldn't understand why the minute I sneezed my mom would whisk me away to the clinic. The whole time we were there she stood in front of me like a human barricade and glared accusingly at anyone that sneezed or coughed.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd1-2.jpg
One day, a group of college students figured out it was caused by the antibiotics in our food and water. They discovered that most of the people that got it either died or became sterile, those that didn't get it were immune though. Now people were angry. All this pain and suffering had been caused by our government! A lot of people decided to leave the country. The college students disappeared and The Watchers closed down all transportation. They told everyone to go back to there houses and pack light, then they brought everyone to cramped makeshift apartments. They said we were all quarantined. Most of the people that were sick were separated, I don't remember seeing any of them again.
After awhile the rest of us started to get sick too from the cramped, dirty conditions. Everyone was worried that it was going to be the same as before, but The Watchers said they has immunizations this time. They didn't say only certain people got them. If you were deemed "Necessary" then you got the immunization. Most of the people who got it were doctors, lawyers, scientists of politicians, but some were just really strong, or smart. But if you were deemed unnecessary then you were kicked out of the communes. You could hear the rejected banging on the doors for days, then suddenly, it would just stop. My parents were doctors, so we got the immunization. Even though I was glad to be safe, part of me didn't want it. What made me that much more important than anyone else? Better yet, what gave Them the right to choose who lived and who died?
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd1-3.jpg
A lot of other people shared my thoughts, and some of them started a rebel group called Truth. They had this idea to stop The Watchers by infiltrating there bases and destroying them from the inside out. It was a good idea, and a lot of people started to see a light at the end of the tunnel. maybe we would be free. Truth broke into one of the bases. There were a lot of them, but more of The Watchers. They managed to kill some of them and let a lot of the people free, but most of Truth died, and the rest were forced to flee. Somewhere in the chaos, I lost my family. I managed to climb into a corner to avoid being trampled. That's were Ramble found me. He was one of the few remaining members of Truth. Unfortunately, He'd lost sight of them in the rush. I escaped with him and a few others into the woods. We formed our own colony of rebel outcasts, our only goal being to plan the destruction of The Watchers.

Bonus

*Crunch* A loud noise breaks the silence of early morning. It's barely dawn but already I've been awake for hours. The hair on the back of my neck prickles with fear as I strain to hear. The crunch comes again and I launch off the top of the rusted out car I've been sitting on, gazing at the sunrise. I land in front of the man who yelps in fear and scrabbles backwards, cutting his hands on the shards of glass and metal that litter the ground.
His clothes are torn and dirty and his face is covered in jagged cuts. Long, shaggy hair hangs into his eyes. " Who are you and why are you here?" I growl feral, pointing my knife at him. He doesn't answer and I take a step closer, touching the knife tip to his throat.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Bonus1.jpg
" Leave him be, Rumor." Calls a voice. I growl in annoyance, shoving the knife roughly back into my boot. " Stay out of this Ramble, this has nothing to do with you." I grumble, turning slightly to glare at the tall man with the unkempt dark hair.
Ramble smirks. "Try to get to know him before you kill him, OK?" he says, helping the man to his feet. I roll my eyes. "I'm Ramble and this murderous little winch is Rumor." Ramble says, gesturing towards me. I snort, crossing my arms. How can he be so friendly when we don't even know this guy? The man clears his throat. "I'm Alex." he says, offering a dirty and blood caked hand to Ramble. His voice is raw and uneven, like he hasn't used it in awhile. " Well Alex, welcome to The Colony. Why don't you sit down and have some coffee and Rumor will find you something to clean those wounds." Ramble says, turning back to the camp. "I'll let the others know you're coming." He calls back over his shoulder.
Alex turns to follow him, glancing back over his shoulder to smile eerily at me. "Thank you, April." he say, before trotting after Ramble. My blood runs cold. How did he know my name? Everyone in The Colony uses nicknames for safety and I'm sure Ramble didn't slip up. Who is this strange man?

(The bonus round is incorporated into the story line, permission by GameShark.)

The phone was dead, just as dead as the man at the back of the Burger Queen. Reyna could still smell his blood on her hands and she washed her hands in the hottest water she could stand. What was going on? Who had done that? Why were the phones dead!? Where were all the people? At this time of the morning she was usually pouring coffee and serving greasy tater-tots to the hungover locals, but there was no one here. There were no cars in the parking lot across the street either. Reyna suddenly heard something other than the sound of her own ragged breathing and thumping heart. A low, bone-chilling "MoooooooSnapCrunchCrackSquishSlurpMooooo".
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/scaredthruwindow.jpg

Reyna had to look, that poor man's body was still out there. She decided to not open the back door to look. She had seen too many horror movies to be stupid enough to open a door to let in a crazy mooing maniac. She peeked out the window and saw a horrible sight. She denied what her eyes were seeing. There, in the puddle of blood, splashing about were two people wearing the most realistic cow masks she had ever seen. She must have whimpered too loud, because one of the mask wearing people turned and looked at her. The eyes of the cow mask gleamed, a huge tongue lolled out of the gaping maw and licked the red glistening teeth. Red with the blood of the man on the ground, who was now just a puddle of pink and red pieces. The second cow-thing looked at her and grinned, it was smaller than the other... a child.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/bloodycowhands.jpg

The phone rang. Reyna lunged for it, still watching the gore-soaked cow-things out side. "H-ello?"

"So you didn't eat your breakfast this morning little girl? That's too bad," a raspy voice on the other end breathed hard into the phone.

"WHO IS THIS!? What's going on?! What are those things!?"

"The future. They are the future of this world," the voice cackled. "It's too bad you tried to help that stupid man. You cannot repeat what he told you to anyone. No one would believe you anyway, but I like to tie up loose ends. Say your last prayers little girl. You are going to die now." CLICK, and then a dial tone droned in her ear. Reyna dropped the phone receiver and started to gibber a little in shock. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/badphone.jpg

She startled as a heavy thud hit the backdoor of the Burger Queen. The latch on the door started to give under the weight of the cow-things smashing against the door. Reyna grabbed the first thing she could find, a wrench used for repairing the sinks and she flailed blindly at the bloody hands groping from the crack in the door. The cow-things screamed in hideous unison as Reyna fought back, her face dappled in blood.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/snapshot_34bcce7c_b4c8be15.jpg

The cow things retreated and Reyna, using the last of her adrenaline piled up tables, boxes and chairs against the door. She collapsed against the counter and sobbed. She knew where she had seen the cow-things before...

She had given her mother that shirt for Christmas and the child cow-thing was wearing Reyna's hand-me down shoes.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/familyphoto.jpg

She sobbed harder and stared at the ceiling, exhausted and alone.

(Bonus is incorporated into the main story)

Two weeks went by, and Joe and I got to know each other a bit better while we tried to survive in the now desolate wasteland that used to be Sim City. From what we could tell, the Social Bunnies killed everyone in their path, leaving bodies to rot where they had died... Then we realized something: there were no dead children! I suppose they could have hidden or escaped, but if the Bunnies really meant to kill everyone, they would have gotten hold of some kids. I knew, when Joe told me they kidnapped his little brother, that the Social Bunnies had a goal. This further evidence just confirmed that fact.
Eventually, we came across an old warehouse or factory, and happened to spy one of the Social Bunnies through the window. The place was completely surrounded with a chain-link fence, making it quite suspicious. I handed my gun to Joe and started climbing.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2125/2281563183_b426e812d4.jpg
"Wait! Wh-what are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" I said, rolling my eyes. Joe was a nice guy, and pretty tough physically, but he was such a baby! I got up to the top and jumped down on the other side. "There, now toss me the guns."
"We can't go in there! It could be dangerous!" protested Joe.
I sighed. "Do you want to find out where your brother might be, or not? There must be something in there that will give us some clues."
Joe frowned, but did as he was told. When he climbed over, too, we tiptoed up the front steps and looked in through the door. There was no one to be found. I passed the pistol to Joe.
"Coast is clear," I whispered. "Let's go."
There were bars on the door, but ironically, it was unlocked. Guess they weren't expecting visitors.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/2281563167_c4d3fcf4e7.jpg
The place looked like it hadn't been used in years. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere, and the whole place just looked pretty much trashed. I kept my gun cocked, just in case.
"How come I get the girly one?" asked Joe, looking sadly at his weapon.
"Because you also have a knife... And, because you can't shoot for beans."
"This is true," he agreed.
In the middle of the room stood two rusty old work-benches used for making mechanical parts and machines. Though they looked practically ancient, there was less dust on them than on everything else. Looking down, I noticed round footprints in the dust on the floor. Bunny tracks.
(Resists the urge to say, "I'm hunting wabbits!")
They led out one door and into the stair-well. I beckoned to Joe and we went down together. At the bottom, there was just one door. It had a "no entry" sign on it. The footprints clearly led into this room. I could hear rustling. Something was in there.
"The door's locked," I said. "Here, hold my gun, and I'll pick the lock."
It took a few seconds, but I got it open. Beyond the door was not what I expected.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2091/2281563173_b173ce12c0.jpg
Besides the Social Bunny, there were two kids in the room: a little boy with dirty brown hair, and a little black girl who looked like she had busted her lip.
"Jake!" Joe gasped, pulling both guns on the giant pink rabbit.
The Social Bunny turned to face us with its hand on the switch. Then it spoke, with a mechanical voice that made my blood turn to ice.
"Don't move, or the boy dies!"
Both of us froze. I had never heard a Social Bunny speak. I didn't think they could! Usually, they just mimed stuff and stayed silent. It made me wonder... what were Social Bunnies, really? I had a feeling I didn't want to know the answer.
I fumbled for my gun, then realized I had given it to Joe. Damn. I could feel him behind me, shaking with fear.
"Joe! Just shoot him!" I yelled.
"Jake! I found you! I thought you were dead!"
Jake didn't respond. He looked pretty much out of it.
The Social Bunny smirked, a truly evil look. "Kill your friend, and I'll let the boy go."

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2350/2281563169_d84153a3a5.jpg

I didn't think Joe was capable of such a thing, but I guess I didn't know him well enough. He turned the gun on me, aiming right at my face.
"Joe, he's lying!"
"But... Jake... I--I have to! I'm sorry, Rachel..."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flash of pink.
"Joe, look out!!"

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3154/2281563181_549006b383.jpg

Joe turned to look, but he was too late. The Social Bunny grabbed him and slammed him to the ground. His head hit the cement floor with a loud, sickening crack. He lay there, not moving.
It was too much for me. I grabbed both guns and pumped that pink sucker full of lead, screaming at the top of my lungs! I kept firing until my brain finally realized that the clicking noise meant there were no more bullets. Then, I dropped the guns and fell to my knees, tears streaming down my face.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2282/2281563177_4117d0842a.jpg

Joe was such an idiot, but I had grown attached to him. It hadn't really bothered me much when my family died, because I wasn't close to any of them. Sure, it was sad, but this was different. This was like ripping out pieces of my soul! An actual, physical pain, deep in the center of my body. I don't know how long I sat there, sobbing. Time sort of disappeared.
Finally, there were no more tears to cry. When I looked up, the two kids were staring back at me sadly. Jake, too, was crying, but the tears were dried on his face now. I didn't really know what to do.
"Um... Hi, I'm Rachel," I said numbly.
Jake nodded. "I'm Jake."
"I'm Lacey," said the little girl.
I couldn't leave them there, so I decided to take them with me. Now I have two kids tagging along wherever I go. They didn't know anything about what the Social Bunnies were doing to them, but I'm much closer to solving the puzzle. The question is, at what price?

Sorry for the delay, last night was a bit hectic. Anyways, here are the scores for Round One. Great job everyone! If I have made any mistakes, please let me know so I may correct it.

Finally, while I am sure you were all planning on doing this, just in case I am reminding you to be polite to the judges. I would prefer no verbal abuse to those who have spent the precious hours of their lives judging these.

Comments: You have a great story. I think it was too much writing, the phonecall with your mom, and the relation to your sister was a bit too much. That steal some points unfortunately. The story itself is great, and the bonus is really well written. Your pictures are also great, special the bonus, with the red light. Awesome pictures who fit well into your story.

Cinamun
Writing - 13/15
Pictures- 11/15
Creativity - 4/5
Bonus - 5/5
Total = 33/35
Comments: The story begins very well, you really bring the reader in with familiarity of the times (computer chips, bad things never happen to me, etc). The characters are very different and unique and you captured the personas of each very well. I felt the pictures followed the story well, however I would have liked to have seen a bit more 'action' if you will. I also loved the twist with the ending. Good work.

Comments: It's a bit too much writing about you and Lisa. And the story would look better if you started with a picture. The story is simply too long. It's in context, but too many irrelevant remarks. You seem to repeat yourself sometimes, about your mom being excited for instance. You will gain more points for writing if you shorten down the stories and come to the point a bit earlier. Round 1 always scores lower than the rest of the rounds. Your story is very good, i really enjoyed reading it. And the essence is creative. A few pictures could be much better in the storytelling. Try to make them better for the next round, make them more vivid, where is the sword and the blood? Take a shot that describes the story much better.

Comments: Your story is scary, I love scary. Scary in the sense that we've witnessed things like SARS and Bird Flu... Mad Cow, etc so with that I can relate to the idea of the storyline, nice job with that. I like the flow of the story as well, theres truly a beginning, middle and end there. Some of your pictures were kind of small though and in that second picture, maybe more 'sickness' shown would have been a nice added touch to really bring home the severity of this 'super bug'. All together a solid round.

However I do think the story starts to fade off a bit at the end. Would have liked a little more dialogue in the bonus round but the entry is solid. Some of the pics were a little small also. Comments: I find that story as 'heavy' reading. So i used time on it. I think you described 'calm before the storm' very well. But it could have been shortened down a bit. I find your pictures very good, Sizzle and the scientist talking together is a real good shot. Watch out for irrelevant remarks, if the story had been much longer, it would have gotten less points from me. This is a typical science sci story, like terminator for instance. I hope you can catch up the readers more in the next rounds. I expect this story to be exciting, filled with action and effects in the pictures.

It's nice getting insight into your main characters day, However to have a little more action or a hint about how crazy these B.O.B's might be would have gotten you a few extra points. Something is lacking here. You will gain more points for your story if it's in context. I think too much punctuation (like excessive exclamation points) or drawn out letters (like muaaaaaaaaaaahhhh) can tend to destroy the impact of the plot you're trying to get across. Rest In Peace: Phil Johnson

Last night, after escaping from a horrible death and trying to find a place to hide, survivor John Phillips found the body of his old friend Phil Johnson behind a counter in a local 7-11. The body was bloodied, but John recognised him by the color of his eyes.

A carrier pigeon was recieved by officials at Ground Zero Survival Inc., early the following morning, right after were forced to fight off four deranged horsemen. It is not known how John Phillips managed to get the pigeon there.

Phil Johnson is best known for the modifications he was subjected to as he grew up in a lab. About a week ago, he signed up for Ground Zero Inc.'s Survivalist Contest. We would send any friends/family flowers but at the moment we are busy fighting off a zombie horde.

Cinamun
22nd Feb 2008, 11:42 PM
You know Drsalvador, there is no reason to be difficult here. I think that was pretty wicked epitaph for your character that Game Shark drew up. It follows the theme of the contest wonderfully. It's too bad you felt that it's wording did not fit the characterization you were trying to portray.

For future reference though, instead of dropping out, re-entering and dropping out again, pay close attention to the timeline that the contest host has given so you can plan accordingly and take the rules of the contest section into consideration. They are in big green font once you enter this section. This bit is most important here:

Commit to participating. If you as a contestant sign on to a contest, you must commit to participating in the contest until either the contest is complete or until you are eliminated. If you MUST drop out, please PM the contest host with a specific reason as to why its imperative for you to leave the contest. In addition, members who are noticed to continually drop out of contests, reason or not, may not be able to participate in future contests. As a contest host, you are urged to bring this problem to the attention of boolPropped to be dealt with accordingly.

Just a friendly reminder.

Just so everyone knows, after reading boolprop's thread on Bonus rounds, I realized I did them wrong. Therefore, I have editted the scores to reflect the fact that Bonus rounds are in fact Bonus and not recquired.

Scores are now out of thirty five instead of fourty and Total scores are out of one hundred and five instead of one hundread and twenty.

I apologize profusely for this.

Confrontation

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2b.jpg

JJ sat down for a moment, glad for a brief respite from nursing Mark, as the stranger was called, and from tending to the vegetables. She looked around the cabin that her father had worked so hard to build all those years ago. He had been one of those who had believed the Millenium Bug would send the world into chaos, and had bought the cabin as a safe retreat, spending 18 months installing solar panels to heat water, a multi-fuel stove to provide heat and a diesel generator to provide electricity, though their supplies of diesel had run out two years ago. Whilst all her friends were out partying, celebrating the start of the new millenium, JJ and her family were crowded round the radio, waiting for news of the impending disaster. Of course, it never came...

Everyone had laughed at them back then, but when the news of the accidental release of the genetically modified smallpox virus, Blue Pox, hit the headlines, her father had started to restock the cabin again, just in case.

She went outside to chop some logs for the stove. It was hard work and her hands were calloused from the heavy axe. As she bent down to stack the logs she caught the flash of movement out of the corner of her eye. She turned round to find Mark standing there with the axe in his hands.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2h.jpg

"I'm sorry JJ, but there's just not enough food for the two of us."
In one swift movement she reached down behind her, grabbed a stick and swung round catching him on the temple. She bent over him cautiously but he wasn't breathing. She checked his pulse, but he was gone. "Great." she thought, "Another grave to dig. As if I don't have enough to do."

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2g.jpg

She dragged Mark's body behind the cabin and covered it with a tarpaulin, till she had time to dig his grave. She went back inside to wash up. Lobo's barking alerted her to a presence outside. She crept up to the window and glanced out. A small gang of hungry travellers were approaching, she'd seen groups of them before, not here but on the nearby hills and glens. She'd watched them from a distance, through binoculars, as they stole what they could, burned what they couldn't. This was the first time they'd came this way. She cursed as one of them found the axe and sent it flying towards the window.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2f.jpg

She ran to the wall where the tools hung and grabbed the old rusty axe, bursting out the door she threw the axe at one of the women, killing her instantly.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2e.jpg

Lobo had already brought the other woman down, and was turning his attention to one of the men. JJ picked up a heavy log and smashed it down on the other man's shoulder, as he struggled to get to his feet she grabbed the axe again and finished him off.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2d.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/r2c.jpg

She looked around at the four dead bodies and called Lobo over.
"Good boy!" she said, her father had trained him well.

This is quite enough, everyone.

drsalvador, if you feel your entry was mis-understood or scored wrongly, you need to take it up privately with the host and/or me via PM. Ranting all over the actual contest thread is not allowed and is simply poor taste for any contest participant. Please do not do it again.

Game Shark, it looks like you have a fine contest going here. Thank you for changing your bonus round scores to the correct way - I really appreciate you (and all the other hosts) who took the time out of their day to read the new sticky.

I was still getting over the strange idea that this man somehow knew me when I walked into the cabin. Ramble was standing by the stove while Artemis and Angel sat on the couch, cuddling as usually. They were part of the original Truth group, a husband and wife of total opposites but devoted love. Alex sat comfortably in the chair, introducing himself as an innocent traveler who had happened upon a safe house only to be attacked by a crazed woman wielding a knife. Artemis and Angel welcomed him good humoredly, they followed whatever Ramble told them to like puppies. I still couldn't get over the fact that he knew my name though, and that something felt very wrong.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd2-1.jpg
I was right too, although not at all happy about it. The next morning all of us were starting to feel strange. Weak, feverish and tired. Not long after that the sores started appearing. The sickness was back again and I could take a guess at who had brought it. Ramble still wouldn't listen.
We took shifts working on the antivirus and sleeping. None of us could work for more then twenty minutes at a time without almost passing out, but Angel was the worst. Sores covered his face and neck, blisters formed on his lips and his breath came ragged and weak. During one of my shifts I confronted Alex, asking him why he would do this to us. He told me he didn't want to but he had been captured by The Watchers and it had been either infect whoever he could find, or be executed. "How could you betray the rebels?" I asked him. "How could you infect your own people?"
His face grew solemn and angry. "You don't know what it's like to be left behind." He said, his voice thick and ragged.

Artemis was a scientist so we managed to concoct an antivirus, but not soon enough for Angel.
We buried him on a hill near the river. Ramble tried to comfort Artemis but it was no use. It was like her heart was broken, a piece of her buried with her husband.
Anger burned inside of me. Alex was weak, having chosen the cowards way out. I would make sure he payed for the pain he had caused.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd2-3.jpg
Ramble wouldn't hear of it though. He insisted on giving Alex part of the antivirus and locking him in one of the sheds. "How can you let him live after what he's done!" I screamed, pacing the ground like a caged beast. "He might have information we need." Ramble said. "You don't know what you're doing, your putting everyone in danger just because you think Truth can still beat The Watchers! Well you can't, this is life and you have to live with it!" I cried, angry tears making paths in the grime on my cheeks. Ramble said nothing. "You and Artemis take the first shift and I'll be back in the morning." He growled over his shoulder as he stalked away. Artemis stared angerly at the ground, she didn't say anything.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd2-4.jpg
Sometime during the night I fell asleep, my dreams filled with impish laughter and the simple joys of childhood...

"Pow pow, you're dead April!"
"Nuh-uh! I dodged it Alex!"
"No you didn't!"
"Fine, ask mom!"
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k166/KarmaCorgi/Rnd2-6.jpg
I awoke to a scream of rage. Ramble was staring murderously at me, his finger pointed in accusation. "You did this!" He cried. "How dare you go again my rules!" Tendrils of sleep still clung to me as I rose shakily to my feet. "What are you talking about?" I mumbled. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a flash of red. Alex lay sprawled on the floor, a pool of crimson blood under his head.
"Ramble, I didn't! I swear!" I begged. With a snort he turned away, stalking back into the shed. I followed him slowly in, my head reeling. I hadn't killed Alex, I'd been asleep, dreaming about...what? I rubbed my forehead but the dream was gone. Apparently I was too deep in thought to notice Artemis's criptic smile.

Round 2/ Bonus

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/ctdrvbyuqq.jpg
I couldn’t do anything as the feeling of sorrow and sickening loneliness rushed throughout my entire body filling the empty void.

I fell to the floor, my knees slammed onto the wood beneath my carpet. All thought, all feeling, everything rushed from my body. I couldn’t do anything as the feeling of sorrow and sickening loneliness rushed throughout my entire body filling the empty void. “I’m alone.” I choked on the words. My father, mother, my neighbor, perhaps even my best friend were dead. How do you go on living like that? How do you deal with that kind of thing?

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/kqvsxaoqqk.jpg
I could practically SEE his blood on my hands

I pull myself up heavily from the floor and stared at my hands. I killed…. I killed…my father… MY FATHER. I could practically SEE his blood on my hands. Who do I answer to for that? The Gods of the past, the God’s of my childhood stories? No, I guess… I can only answer to me. I did this, I have to live with this. I have to LIVE…. with this. I can’t tell what I’m more afraid of dealing with the guilt of killing my father or dealing with the fact that I STILL HAVE TO LIVE.
Do I though? Do I have to live? The thoughts echo through my head as I sit there loneliness seeping in. I could just die. There still time. The pills, they’re still on the table, waiting… waiting for me.
I think about this option for a bit. It would be SO EASY. Just pop the pills in take a drink and your done. I suppose there’s that moment when you die, that unknown moment where you either give way to oblivion and nothingness or live on forever in some sort of “Heaven” or “Hell”. Yes, to die would be the easiest solution here, but it scares me that unknown, the terror of just giving up.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/ijrjyllcab.jpg
No, I must keep living.

Giving up, that’s what I would be doing. I ask the same as Hamlet now, to be or not? What if there’s someone else… someone who choose to live like I did. If I die will I ever know? No, I wouldn’t and they would have to live alone.
No, I must keep living. If there is someone else alive maybe I could find them. I must look for someone… someone else who’s alive. If I find no one then I will decide what to do… then I will…

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/bgvoiyzceg.jpg
I must look for someone… someone else who’s alive.

*Comments from me.*
I hope the pictures are better this time. I tried to take more action shots but this chapter really doesn't have much "action" in the sense it's more internal. Well I hope I did better this time. Good luck everyone! *crosses fingers*

Just to let the judges know, The round one bonus sorta percolated into this more than it did there. Sorry 'bout that, didn't know what to expect. also bonus 2 is incorporated in this story as well.

Life is funny, y'know? One minute you're eating a greasy cheeseburger, the next minute you're floating on an inland sea that used to be Ohio. Maybe that's just me. I suppose the worst single part, the disaster, the end of the world, when everything went to smithereens, was that first night, pulling the boat into the water as the rain poured around. I had changed into some comfies and gone to the boat shed, pulled out the SS Flibertigibbet and loaded it up, all while the rain lashed everything in sight, all while I could see my house sinking under the tide of water. I put all my stuff down, and then just... collapsed.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_14cb7f94.jpg
There's only so much a girl can take, and after a rehersal dinner, an apocalyptic flood, and getting my hair all filthy matted from falling into the mucky water, I was just about ready to pass out. So I did.

One very refreshing, if uncomfortable, nap later I had a realization. I was afloat, in a very nice lifeboat, but a lifeboat nonetheless. I had a single cooler of food, no fishing tackle, and was thoroughly utterly and completely alone. I realized that the disaster wasn't losing everything, no, the disaster was surviving. Period.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_74cb7d56.jpg
My little glorified raft didn't have a name at that point, and I suppose I was in shock. The first thing I did, before eating, before trying to find some way to better my lot- not too difficult considering, but still- before even going to the bathroom, was think up a name for my little ship. My house had been Night Manor, hotels were Days Inns, and my little glorified raft should have a name as well, a better name than the G14666 stenciled on the side. Hence the SS Flibertigibbet.

After my little ship was christened I set the boat to floating east, if even hilly South Umbridge was gone then it didn't seem like there was much hope for the Western US. That left Europe and a transatlantic crossing in a life boat. Fun. Hand-clappingly hopscotch-skippily FUN. Oh my, did that sound sarcastic? Whoopsies.

Days are monotonous. I wake up, try -and fail- to put my hair in some sort of order. I stare at the water. I get up, pace some, then stare at the water some more. Then I go to bed, berating myself for not bringing a book or an Ipod or a paddle ball or SOMETHING.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_f4cb7cbb.jpg
All that changed one day. Actually all that changed once before that when I fell overboard after tripping over the bench, but that is neither here, nor there, nor very premanent. Unlike this this. Some guy showed up floating, unconscious. So much for hypothetical situations, huh? As I said I would, I pulled him on and looked at him lying there, slightly damp, and very much ill. I did the only thing I could think of to help him- I slapped him across the face.

He woke up spluttering, but he seemed fine and took the food I offered him. Turns out the man's name was William, and it turns out that I had gotten horribly lost and was in Utah. Or what used to be Utah. Or he was as lost as I was and was only from Utah. I don't know for sure, heck I still don't, but I reckon that either way, I really love saying the word Utah. Utah just rolls off the tongue. Utah Utah Utah. OK, I'll stop now.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_d4cb7d93.jpg
It took him a day or two to recover, but once he did I was so glad that the was there, I hadn't realized how lonely I was. Now my days were filled not just with boredom and trying (I was still failing, but at least the accumulated filth didn't mess up my color) to comb my hair, now there was conversation! Oh it was nice.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_14cb8065.jpg
I couldn't help but worry though, that maybe William wasn't taking the enforced solitude, the dirty gray ocean, the perpetual rain, and the endless supply of canned ham as cheerfully as me. It wasn't anything tangible at that point, just a feeling. I mean really, what kind of paranoid person gets concerned when their only companion on a boat thousands of miles from a possibly destroyed civilization glares out at the sea every few minutes? And I wasn't that crazy. Yet. Gimme another couple weeks, all bets are off, but as of then, not crazy paranoid. I had seen William looking just the slighest bit psychotic. Just a bit. Given that I was nervous anyway, I decided to ask him about it.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_14cb81d5.jpg
Bad move. Disastrously bad move. Mayhaps the worst disaster, the worst single event of the entire situation. Yes, 'twas dumb.

Anyway, I stood there, looking worried, he didn't meet my eyes. A small wind whipped the sea into transparent white caps. There was tension in the air, a whisper in the wind, and a vague smell of pineapple. William's eye twitched.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_74cb8216.jpg
All of a sudden a maniacal grin wandered onto his features and he reached over to grab me. I pulled away, frightened, but he still advanced on me, taking us closer and closer to the edge of the boat, which was rocking.
"S-stop it Bill, you're being insane!" I said weakly.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_14cb859f.jpg
He turned away for a moment, and I sagged down in releif but then he whirled around again and started babbling something, "No, so water, can't go on, no, no, a thousand times no, be mine, no, no, we're going to die, the world is over, no, no, oh lord save me, no!"

I was in terrified conniptions when he started, but by the time he was done I was angrier than I had ever been in my life. "Oh? Oh? And you think I like being on this little wasteland? Do you? Do you? Get over yourself buster, I don't hsve to help you, and there's no reason for you to stay. So get over yourself or get the heck off of my boat! Understood?" I was nearly shouting, the stress of being so long on the silly little ship was overwhelming.

William stood there for a moment. I suppose he was surprised by my vehemence. As for me, I'm nto sure. By that point I was running solely on adrenaline. My actions were about as predictable as a rolling die- that is to say that I was damned pist and extremely erratic. He raised his arm, I don't even know what he was going to do. I screamed, and pushed.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_54cb88f2.jpg
He tottered for a moment on the edge of the rail and then plummetted. I swallowed my shriek in my throat and walked to the edge. I saw him sink oh-so slowly beneath the waves. I shivered, knowing that now I was a murderer, that I had just dedicated my existence to survival, baptized in a human man's blood. I also realized that I really needed to look into bathing; I was pretty rank by then.

DAVID: "It's me. I'm at a secure location. Everything is going to plan. I don't think she knows what's going on. Yes, Yes I'll do what I'm here for. You have my word on that and trust me it's going to be a pleasure.
I won't let her ruin our plans. I'll call back when it's done. (Closes phone)

"OH, She'll pay and she'll pay with her life!" *laughs manically*

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5092/clp160vt9.jpg

SIZZLE: "No the pleasure will be mine.*snarles* The little prick has no idea he's being watched does he. He honestly thinks I'm THAT stupid. I was trained to trust NOONE. He'll learn the hard way not to cross me. This should be fun. I always knew there was something off about him but I let it go for the DOC. No more! He wants to play? GAME ON then!

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/2829/clp146ej3.jpg

THE MACHINE: "Come out come out wherever you are.(smiles joyfully) See this is why I enjoy killing your kind. It's so fun to see you try to get away. Such a waste of space you humans are. All of you sniveling, winey, and inferior TO ME! When I rid this world of all humans I'll create the ultimate race to run this litte planet but first back to the task at hand. RUN HUMAN RUN! I'll find you no matter where you go so run like the animal you are and I'll hunt you like the machine I am. Dr. Garrison! Hey DOC! You do know that I can see where you are. We both know that I was built with all the latest high-tech equipment so you trying to run away is so futile. You will die this night old man."

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/9030/clp158bl9.jpg

DR. GARRISON: "I need to find Sizzle! I need to find sizzle!"
I still can't believe David would do this. How can he help this thing destroy all man-kind! What has my son done!

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/5148/clp164zp4.jpg

SIZZLE: "I got the information that ya sent. I'll take care of everything.
I'm gonna miss ya Doc but you're in a better place right now.Trust me when I say you don'twant to be here for the destruction that I'm gonna cause. I'll make them pay for this! They'll all pay!

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5749/clp179at4.jpg

DAVID: "Ive been looking forward to this sizz. I've been planning your death for years. You ruined my LIFE! You took my father's love from me!

SIZZLE: "Wine, wine, wine that's all you do david. You never take responisibity for your actions, you just blame everyone else. So typical. I told your father there was something wrong with you."

DAVID: "Leave my father out of this. He's dead because of you!

SIZZLE:" RIGHT! Oh please spear me your delusions. We both know that it's you who killed your father. It was you who told THE MACHINE where he was. It's all you David!

DAVID:"I would have all my father's love if it's wasn't for you. He treated you like the child he wanted. You were everything I wasn't. You were always there hording his time trying to show me up! I hate you!
Now I'm gonna do what I've alwasy wanted to. I'm gonna kill you!

SIZZLE:"You and what army David. You're really stupid to be Garrison's son. I mean you can't kill me David but I'll definiately enjoy killing you. You want to know how I'll kill ya David?. Well let's see, will I slit your throat or will it be a bullet throught the head. Such a hard choice that is. How about both hummm...?

DAVID:"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/1884/clp182vq6.jpg

DAVID: "Please don't kill me. I can help you get rid of the machine Sizzle just don't kill me. If you do you'll be just like the machine. A merciless killer!

SIZZLE: "See David that's where you're wrong. I'm already like the machine.

To A Mouse

The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men oft go awry

Have you ever heard of Murphy’s Law? It states that everything that can go wrong in a plan will. This is probably more true now than ever before with all that’s happening in the world. You must have had a plan, a strategy, something….. it is inevitable that eventually SOMETHING must have gone horriblely awry. We want to know how your best laid plan went awry.

BONUS!
Guilt and Suffering
You feel yourself slipping into depression because of what you just did. It is like a blanket, slowly smothering you. You need to stop this suffering, you will go mad if you don't find a way to make yourself happy. Unfortunately, the atmosphere isn't really helping. Show us how you try to make yourself forget the searing guilt. Whether that be an old deck of playing cards or a figment of your imagination. Show us how you deal with insanity.

(I am pretty sure that everyone killed the guy, or killed someone. If I am wrong, please correct me so you can do the bonus round.)

"Dad! Dad can fix anything!" Reyna held on to that feeble glimmer of hope.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/bloodyworry.jpg
Her father could help her change her sister and her mother back into human beings. Reyna shook off the memory of the heavy steel wrench battering and bludgeoning the bloody cow-things into submission, those cow-things wearing her family's bodies and clothing.

She scrubbed her face with the harsh bathroom soap and towels, cleaning off as much of the spattered gore as she could.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/hope.jpg

Reyna knew, she knew in her bones that her father could save her. He picked her up from countless reckless bike wrecks. He always helped her study for the hardest of class tests. Most importantly, he had saved her from the unwanted Junior Prom advances of that nasty Rusty Farrell. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/prom.jpg

She could still feel that boy's clammy paws on her body. Dad could help her, he could! She just had to get home.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/madreynaintruck.jpg

Home. Home was safety. Perhaps it wasn't, but it was the best idea that she could think of, her mind was reeling with sadness, confusion and guilt. Reyna hefted the heavy wrench, grabbed her keys and crept towards the front doors. She looked carefully around the hedges and sprinted to the truck! She started the truck and locked the doors, her adrenaline pounding, blood throbbing in her ears. Home, home, home... There were no cars on the road, no sign of the grocery truck drivers that swarmed the town earlier and Reyna swore that she glimpsed black and white spots lurking behind trees, barn doors and trash cans. Her heart sank when she saw her neighbor's front porches spattered in crimson goo and their front door swinging in the breeze. "Dad is smarter than that. He'll hide." Reyna clung to this hope like a tree branch dangling in a torrential flood.

The back door was unlocked. It always was unlocked, no one bothered to lock their back doors in this town. There had never been any need to. Reyna crept into the utility room, warily hefting the wrench in her hand, just in case. "Dad? Dad?" she whispered. The house was silent. Reyna crept into the kitchen and her world froze again.

Her father was laying on the kitchen floor, his eyes blankly staring at the floor. It looked like he had tumbled off the chair and smacked his head on the tile. Milk had pooled on the floor around him, her shoes slipped in the white puddle. "Dad?" She whispered one last time and reached out to touch his cold skin. "Oh dad! What am I going to do now?" She ran upstairs to her room.

"Dad... I need to find the person who did this to us, to me." She felt numb from head to toe.

*bonus*
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w233/haughtywench/Survival/grief.jpg
Reyna stuffed a duffel bag full of her belongings and grabbed her favorite doll, a fuzzy Cookie Monster that she had chewed on, cuddled with and talked to for years. His big googly eyes and gaping grin comforted her and he smelled like home too.

"Cookie, we have to find the person responsible for this. For mom, Dad and sis. And for me. That man who died behind the Burger Queen, he knew something... What was it that he said? The Benevolent Order of Bovines? That's on Main Street, right? Right." She held Cookie close and murmured into his fluffy fur, "I think I'm the only one left Cookie. I think that man who called me knows it too. We can't stay here. We have to go. But I'm taking the wrench." Cookie agreed with her, he always did.

The best-laid schemes o' mice an 'men
Gang aft agley

As soon as her father said they were going to the cabin, everyone panicked.
"Are you sure, dad?" asked JJ, "It's in the south of England, surely we're safe up here?"
"JJ, it has spread across Europe in a matter of months, do you really think it won't reach us? We need to get moving now, before the whole country shuts down."
Her father was right, of course. They had packed their clothes and a few mementoes whilst her father loaded up the car with the food and basic necessities he'd been stockpiling these past 3 months. In a couple of hours they were on the road.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/jj3g.jpg

Her father had carefully planned the route, avoiding the major roads in central and east coast regions, choosing the more remote west coast route. JJ thought it was going to work until they hit a road block at the bottom of Glencoe.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/jj3f.jpg

The police had erected concrete barriers across both carriageways, there was no way past. They tried to persuade the police that they were on their way home and had got caught on the wrong side of the roadblock, but a quick check on their numberplate soon caught them out. JJ realised they were lucky not to have been arrested, but 3 hours, and a hefty donation to the local constabulary, later they were on their way back south again. Their father wasn't to be outdone though, he directed them to an overgrown track over the hill, where he instructed them out of the vehicle.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/jj3e.jpg

The next 5 nights and days were spent trekking across country to get to the cabin. They could only bring what they could carry, which was mostly food, and that didn't last long.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/jj3d.jpg

By the time they reached the cabin they were exhausted, starving and had little left to sustain them through the next few weeks, far less months, or years that they might have to hide out here.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/jj3c.jpg

Bonus

JJ looked at the pile of dead bodies in the yard. She was overcome with revulsion and ran into the woods, retching up her meagre breakfast. She had seen dead people before, she'd had to watch her parents and brother be taken by the virus, but she'd never had to kill anyone before. It took her the rest of the morning and afternoon to dig a grave big enough for them all. After she filled it in she said a prayer for them all, they were survivors, just like her, trying to get by day to day.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/jj3b.jpg

Afterwards she sat and wept, saddened that she'd been reduced to this, killing people to survive. She felt a warm tongue lick her hand, she looked up to see Lobo looking at her with his big warm eyes. He cocked his head, unsure why she was so sad, then crouched down barking playfully. JJ laughed, "Oh, alright then, silly mutt, come on, let's play!" She was so glad she had Lobo around, if it wasn't for him...

SIZZLE: "Yeah Doc everything is in position and all the backups are standing by. I'm ready for all contingencies. Your job now is to stay out of the way. I don't want you involved further than this. I have nothing but admiration and respect for you but I seriously think that your faith in David is very misplaced but he's your son so for your sake I really hope he proves my wrong. DR: GARRISON: "NO! Sizzle I won't believe he would do that. I trust him sizzle. He's my son!

SIZZLE: "Yeah Doc but son or not he betrayed you and if something happens to you he'll pay for this with his life. Now stop talking and get the HELL OUTTA THERE! Take that gun I gave you because Doc you're gonna need it! Now go! I'll deal with the fallout here then I'll find you."

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/7553/clp258iw2.jpg

SIZZLE: "This mission went to shit fast! Everything went to HELL in a handbasket. I hope that seat in HELL was ready for you David because you'll be there for eternity.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9827/clp252js5.jpg

SIZZLE: "Breathe, concentrate. This is the only thing helping to keep the murderous rage at bay. Yoga and meditation helps keep me centered and free from stress. In some ways I even feel like the Doc is here and watching over me. It brings me peace more than anything else does. All that killing takes
a toll of you after a while and this helps balance everything. Besides working out, and going to the shooting range to practice this really does it for me."

Don't worry about that. In RL I work in a doctor's office and we've never been this busy. People either are coughing up a lung until they throw up or they are 'chained to the toliet'. A mistake? Huh, that implies a lot more planning than I've put forth, to be perfectly honest. I screwed up, yeah, but it wasn't a mistake in the sense of "This is my plan" and a week later "Wow. Just wow. What were we smoking?" More like, "Ooooh! Let's do this!" followed by, "Dearie you are a dunderhead." So since I never had a plan in the first place I'll tell you about my biggest screw-up: sleeping outside in the cold for days on end.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_74d56d30.jpg
What can I say? Yeah it was cold, but my tent had started to smell unpleasant, and I wanted to sleep under the stars. It probably also didn't help my descision making that my food supplies were running low, that it had been weeks since I had killed William, and that the need for companionship was gnawing at me. Yeah... had been a long day when it started and it was nice.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_54d56efe.jpg
As anyone could guess, I came down with pneumonia. I was helpless to do much more than lie on deck moaning quietly...

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_94d56e7d.jpg
Or get up to blow chunks over the hull.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_74d56def.jpg
I did recover eventually- or I guess I did. Because right after I stopped throwing up every twenty minutes, I felt wonderful. Which brought me to my other problem, starvation. I suppose, in retrospect that I must have been hungrier than I thought. Because right after I got well- and stopped sleeping outside- the hallucinations started.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_d4d56fa3.jpg
First they were pretty harmless, talking to some bloke on the last land mass ever, via my walkie talkie slash non-transmitting AM radio. The hallucinatory bloke was a bit of a pervert, but well... yeah... I don't think you need to know much more than that. Things jsut got weirder after that...

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_54d57073.jpg
I saw my sister.
Looking like she had the night of that rehearsal dinner, radiant, astounding, and not nearly as filthy, bedraggled and insane as me. Hey, I was making the hallucinations, you think I was gonna have my sister depress me?

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_34d570bc.jpg
I hugged Cissy feircely, it had been too long. Far too long. it never even crossed my mind that she wasn't real, that in all likelihood Cissy was dead, or worse off than me. The falsity was comforting, I embraced it just as tightly as I did my imaginary sister.

Finally I pulled myself away and started babbling, "Oh Cissy you have no idea how much I missed you, I was so worried, how'd you survive, is your fiance OK-"

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_b4d57210.jpg
"And would you know anything about the hole in my boat?" I finished confusedly.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_34d5715a.jpg
"I made it. Letting the whole thing go through like this, getting so very desperate Arry? Course your ship will start to sink. Literally."[/img]

She was just standing there, smiling away, as I was shocked and trying to fix things. However my sister's calm prescense had always been there, and she was almost always right. Who was I to question my big sis?

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_54d57249.jpg
Besides, some part of me knew that I was hallucinating. And some (dumb) part decided that nothing I saw was to be believed in. So when my boat was warped, holy, and generally uncomfortable, it wasn't real. It couldn't be. My sister was there. I wasn't that far unhinged. I wasn't!

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff207/AmyLyis/sims/contests/snapshot_14c1f1cb_b4d57184.jpg
So I stayed with my sister. Hallucination or no, she was better company than anything else I could hallucinate, which was a far better alternative than anything could be. Insanity is lots of fun dontcha think?

To A Mouse: Plans Gone Awry

It wasn't much of a plan, to be honest. I just didn't know what else to do. Jake and Lacey were driving me insane. Note to self: never have kids! To top it off, after a few days of wandering and dodging random Social Bunny attacks, I had run out of ammo. We were hungry, dirty, tired, and in dire need of a safe place to sleep. That's where the police station came in.
The prisoners' showers and toilets still worked, so we could all wash up after our days of trudging around in the dust. Luckily, there were some cans of beans and whatnot in one of the storage rooms, too. And, best of all, the cell keys were in a drawer in the front desk. That night, we locked ourselves into one of the jail cells and slept on the bunks. No Social Bunny was going to get to us there.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2071/2303129881_5a6ddd56f2.jpg
For all they'd been through, the kids slept like babies. I, however, had a lot of things running through my mind. Besides the usual 'How are we going to survive day-to-day?' I was also dealing with the emotions relating to Joe's death. Part of me hated the guy for being such a pansy. But part of me truly missed him. I don't know why. And then there was the part of me that wanted to get to the bottom of this whole Social Bunny mystery.
I kept tossing and turning in my bed, and when I finally got to sleep, it was a nightmare.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2331/2303129887_17772fb221.jpg
None of it made any sense; most of it was just an overwhelming feeling of fear paired with random images. One image stuck in my head, however, and I couldn't get it out. It was Joe, glaring at me, his face all bloody. Like he was accusing me of something! I woke up in a cold sweat and looked over at Jake and Lacey.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3038/2303129893_9f9ff99a2c.jpg
Still asleep. From the tiny bit of light seeping into the cell, I could tell it was morning. The nightmare had jolted my brain. I was frustrated. I wanted to find out what all this was about, and I wanted to find out NOW!
I got up, unlocked the door, and woke up the kids.
"We're going to figure out what's really going on. Come on."

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3261/2303129895_0e4ddbdb58.jpg
Thinking back, it was incredibly stupid. But I was desperate! Would I do it again? I really don't know. That doesn't matter now.
"You want me, huh, you stupid Social Bunnies?!" I screamed in the middle of the street. "Well, come and get me! I wanna know why!"

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3100/2303129885_d47b81a75a.jpg
Oh, they came, all right. Lots of them. They came and they surrounded us. I stood there, defiantly, as the kids cowered together in fear. Then one of them reached out its fuzzy paw and touched me. A jolt of electricity coursed through my body, and I collapsed, unconscious, on the ground. I don't know what happened after that, but I had discovered one thing from the rabbit's touch...
The Social Bunnies were robots!

I haven’t found anyone. Empty houses, abandoned stores, suicides lying dead everywhere I go. They’re even starting to stink now.

It’s been a while since that day. I mean the day that I left the house, searching…. Searching for someone, anyone at all. I haven’t found anyone. Empty houses, abandoned stores, suicides lying dead everywhere I go. They’re even starting to stink now. That stench is horrible. I had heard that dead people smelled from all the books I read and the stories I was told, but I could have never imagined how it bad truly smelled. I wonder often… does father smell like this now? His blood is probably a rotten smelling brown stain on my dining room floor.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/irbqejswmj.jpg
His blood is probably a rotten smelling brown stain on my dining room floor.

I know his death was something I couldn’t have prevented but I still feel like I killed him, like I’ve become a murderer. I can’t even picture what my father looks like anymore. Every time I try to imagine his smiling face and gentle deep voice I just see that stain on the carpet. I don’t even see his body anymore, it’s like my mind just sees him as a puddle of blood and the sound of steel cutting flesh. It makes me feel even more alone.
Alone, I’m alone. I can’t stop repeating this in my head. The sound of the word fills me with bitter sorrow. I know it’s my fault. I chose to live. My fault… I chose…I chose… Why? Why? Why?
I’m really tired now to, I think I’ve walked more in this week then in my entire life. Checking houses, Searching shops… Is anyone there, anyone at all? Please someone be there. Please…. someone…

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/rcvpdrhfgi.jpg
Is anyone there, anyone at all? Please someone be there. Please…. someone…

A willow tree with a statue under it… Who is that lady supposed to be? Is it someone from Mrs. Barton’s stories? Is it a god from the past? Headstones surround the statue, people lucky enough to die in a time when there where enough people around to bury them. There’s a small broken down building in the distance. I sit down on the edge of the statue’s base and stare at it. It’s a gray color weathered and torn, unused for years. It looks lonely to… like me… just...like…me….

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/e/emechan/127442/mlweszmtvq.jpg
An old song… sad…. playing in my head? The building? A hallucination?

I sit for a while. The loneliness seeps in, the guilt seeps in, the sorrow seeps in, through the holes, the cracks that have form from what’s left of me… of my sanity. A thought comes to me, no, not a thought, a song, playing in my head. The obsession with death… The obsession…. death… becomes a way of life. An old song… sad…. playing in my head? No, It’s drifting from somewhere, whispering from somewhere far away. The building? A hallucination? Perhaps…. Perhaps…

All of you have no idea how bad I feel for making you all wait so long. I was ill, but thats not a very good excuse. I still could have gotten to the computer. I am very sorry for all this trouble. I will be private messaging boolprop tomarrow begging for an eight day extension in order to finish all rounds. I am truely and utterly apologetic.

Comments: You did it so much better this time. I really liked reading how you live yourself into the story.. and how Roger has to decide wheter to live or die. He was confronting himself, and that is a good twist in the story. Your pictures are also very good in this round. What you can do better? I always expect more creativity, in pics and storytelling. Remember to have the blood on his hands in all the pics, unless you explain he went to the bathroom and washed himself.

Comments: Poor people, JJ Ray is really merciless, lol. What makes her so desperate? I know she is fighting for the food, and for her life. Well, this story illustrates how desperate human beeings (or sims) can be if they are in lack of food and what they have to do to survive. They kill. Still, i miss a few lines how JJ Ray is thinking before beeing a massmurderer. The confrontation is real great, and so are the rest of the story. The picture with the dog is very good. I expect some real surprises to come.

Comments: You follow the story up elegant. The confrontation is very well written, like the rest of your story. Your pictures are good, but you can
have some closeups of one or two. Artemis who looked at the ground for instance. Even more creativity with just one or two pics would be spicy.

Comments: The story is better this round. You wrote the confrontation very well, even if she killed David off a bit too easy, or he was very very silly even to try killing Sizzle. A few more lines who described him better and how he was thinking before trying to kill her would spice up the story. The pictures where the MACHINE is coming out of the fog in the forest to kill Doc is excellent. You scored points on that. Poor Doc, pity he had to die.

Comments: I have never seen so much blood from a body. Be careful to not overdo effects in the pics, you'll risk to loose points on that. The story is real good, and you write very well. The pictures are good, a great idea to show off the family idyll before the disaster. Also, try to make the cows a bit more monstreous. In one picture they did not have a body-language who showed how cruel they really are. Why do they want to take over the world? I expect that explanation will come later.

Comments: You have a very solid story. You follow it up real great. It made me chuckle and made me a bit sad. I can't really figure out how Rachel could be so sad when the social bunnies actually saved her, even if she was attached to the guy they killed. I must admit i was left with some questions here. And you lost some points in your bonus. A few lines how Joe was thinking and what he really would have done before they attacked him, would be far better. Anyway, your story is great, you write very well.

Comments: Poor thing, she is really suffering on SS Flibertigibbet. A real good name for a boat. It's huge! Like a ship. I am glad Araskya stopped saying: "Utah". You lost points on your pictures, they are unclear. Try to make them clearer, if that is difficult for you using the ingame camera, try to show off more closeup pictures. How to make clearer pictures, you can find that in Sisaly's thread. - remember, they count 15pts.I really enjoy your story, and i think your bonus was great, and you illustrated that very good with the pics and writing.

We at Ground Zero Survival Inc apologize but it appears that your usual informer was found dead on the conferance table several days ago. We believe it was murder...... Right now I am scared out of my wits. People are dead everywhere. We haven't had a chance to dispose all the bodies yet. They have been piling up here. Anyways, contestants. It appears as if only seven of you are still alive. How tragic. Unfortunately, thats about how many (important) members of our organization are left. Well, here is Round Four.

Round Four: Rebuilding

"It can take centuries to build something, but only a few seconds to destroy it."

Its been some time since disaster stuck, don't you think? Its time to start trying to see whether you can slowly retrieve at least a shadow of the life you once knew. Maybe you can begin repopulating (KEEP IT PG-13) the earth, or start to build a small village with the few remaining or maybe you will just begin to educate the rest of the world. Record the history that was lost... you know. Whatever you choose, we ar Ground Zero Survival Inc. want to see you try to rebuild society. Good luck!

BONUS ROUND
Time Capsule

That was close, you almost lost it but now you are wondering. If people manage to live after you, what will keep them sane, how will they know your story, your tips, your secrets. You have to tell them somehow. You come up with it, you will hide away whatever you want for someone to find in the future. Detail with us what you hide away and how you do it.

"WAIT, OH GOD! SOMEONE HELP ME! GOD PLEASE! I DON'T WANT TO DI- static. I'M SORRY, PLEASE! I HAVE KIDS. PLEASE HELP... NO NO! I static SOMEONE HELP ME! HE KILLED ALL OF THE- static. HE IS GOING TO-"

End Ground Zero Survival Inc. Transmission

Please wait. This Round ends in Four days, I apologize if it seems like a decrease in quality.

EDIT: Something is wrong with my computer. It keeps bolding everything. I apologize, but I severly need sleep now. Sorry everyone again for everything.

BTW sakrayami, Rachel feels awful about Joe's death because she's never really ever had anyone to be close to, since her family was so distant and she didn't have many friends. When an apocalypse-type thing happens, you cling to whoever you can to make you feel safe. Joe may have been an idiot, but he was kind and strong. Also, the reason Joe turned on her is because he would do anything for his little brother. Classic family vs. friends. And yeah, he would have killed her, too, but it was a question of what's the lesser evil? You know?
Joe probably won't be mentioned much anymore, so that's why I'm telling you this. ;)
