Hansel und Gretyl:

"...and they followed it until they reached a little house, on the roof of which it alighted; and when they approached the little house they saw that it was built of bread and covered with cakes, but that the windows were of clear sugar."

Build and decorate a sweet and tasty home and lot for The Witch, Hansel, and Gretel; that exemplifies the story. This should only be a one story home, but you may have decorative non-living floors, such as a tower or a "widow's walk". This should be built on a lot no larger than 3x3.

Picture requirements for round:
1)1 Overview of Exterior (entire lot from side to side, not an aerial)
2)1 Aerial, interior
3)Up to 3 Photos, which can be collages; featuring interior, exterior and any outbuildings or lot features.

CiNDERELLA- great minds think alike! ;)

18th Jun 2008, 4:30 AM
lol i guess so :)

18th Jun 2008, 1:42 PM
Very nice CiaoAlora. As it happens, I was using the same wallpapers as well, though I expect that most who enter this will be using a lot of the same things.

Katt, what time on Sunday is the deadline for entries? I'm planning on entering this, and had a lot mostly finished last night after working on it for a few hours....then when I went to save it, the game crashed and I lost it all :( But I guess this will give me a chance to redo a few of the things I wasn't quite happy with. Almost makes me wonder if there's something about entering contests that makes your game blow up...since there seems to be a lot of it going around lately among people who are in contests.

18th Jun 2008, 3:21 PM
The deadline will always be 11:59:59pm GMT-5 on the last night of each round.

18th Jun 2008, 7:52 PM
wow. looking great!

19th Jun 2008, 3:10 AM
OK, I have added onto my application, so everything should be finished now.

I hope to see some more apps come in, come on people! ;)

19th Jun 2008, 8:14 PM
CiaoAlora...gorgeous entry! A glass of milk and I'm all set, lol :) Really beautiful details! And the cauldron in the kitchen is great lol...perfect

And yeah, I can't wait to see more entries! Come on guys the next rounds are gonna rock too, this is all so unique... *w00ts*

Ok, I'm pretty nervous since this is the first contest I'm attempting, but here is my application for this. I'm sure the pictures aren't the greatest, but I did my best to show what needed to be shown while staying within the contest and forum guidelines for picture size and number of pictures. Images were sharpened a bit, and corners cropped off on a few to eliminate irrelevant outdoor background I couldn't avoid...if this is a problem, please let me know and I'll redo them as needed.

Overview from the front of the house
Aerial of the house and outbuilding (the small interior balcony seen in the collages below is not shown in an aerial as I didn't feel it really constituted a 2nd level)
Collage 1 - Dining/Living Room, balcony
Collage 2 - Kitchen and Bathroom (outhouse)
Collage 3 - Night shot, front door detail, bedrooms

The idea here was to try to combine a modern concept of a gingerbread house with its whimsy and bright cheerful decorations, with the feel of a medieval cottage in the form of the medium/dark wood furnishings (modern toilet aside). I'll leave it to the judges to decide if I've been successful :)

21st Jun 2008, 3:25 AM
Ndayeni, that's an amazing application! I like your medieval touches throughout the house! I'm amazed that it's your first contest; this is definitely going to be tough on us judges! :)

22nd Jun 2008, 12:14 AM
Thank you CisteCaise. I'm glad you liked it :)

I hope some other people join in here :( What is the min number of applicants you need Katt? And will you be extending apps through round one if there aren't enough by tomorrow?

22nd Jun 2008, 3:31 AM
The minimun would probably be 6, although it tales at least 10 for someone to qualify for a gold star. I'm of two minds about extending through round one, and haven't really decided yet. I've noticed that a lot of house contests seem to have to do this, and I feel it's become expected. I have a different theme that I think will get a better turn-out, because I already did Cycle One, and there was interest in Cycle Two; not to mention about 6 other ideas just waiting to be submitted. If anyone who usually joins or would like to join a House contest, and didn't find this one apealing, if you could post why not, and any suggestions for changes, I'd appreciate it.

23rd Jun 2008, 3:28 AM
I would totally have entered this katt, but I'm already in two other contests and I'm currently going through the process of finding a job. The contest idea seems just awesome, and should you be only short of an application or two to continue, I would be more than happy to step down from judging and whip up an entry.

23rd Jun 2008, 5:04 AM
Thanks for your entries CiaoAlora and ndayeni. Unfortunately we will not be continuing forward with the contest. Hopefully I'll see you in a future one.

Aplications are closed, and due to lack of interest so is the contest.
