Planning Ahead
Cycle 2

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/longdaysend/45258-FLPN.gif

Tired of building contests that focus on interior design more than the structure itself…again? Are you still a better builder than a decorator? Then this contest is for you! Design and build houses for each of the four rounds with no decorating required, we promise!

Da Rules:

1. As usual all forum rules apply in regards to double posting, picture limits and conduct.

2. All floor plan photos must be labeled with each room marked either on the picture itself or through use of floor color coding and a key typed in the post.

3. Decorating the houses is forbidden. You MAY, however, use light fixtures, counters, kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures in the appropriate rooms as these are standard in all homes.

4. All walls should be painted

5. Landscaping must be complete for exterior pictures.

6. No photo shopping beyond labeling pictures and light use of sharpening if your graphics are less than stellar. No sun spots, starbursts or blurry edges.

If you violate the rules you will be asked to change your post to comply. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of your entry and a resulting score of 0 given for the round.

Now to the fun stuff! The application round is simply you throwing your hat into the ring, so to speak, and will not be scored or judged. All subsequent rounds will be scored on a 20 point scale. Judges will score based on over-all appearance (how does it look), as well as creativity (is it interesting?) and playability (could a sim live there?)

Unlike the first cycle we will NOT be using any pre-drawn plans for this. You will be given an idea and let run free…so get creative and let your architectural skills shine!
I have included all rounds requirements to allow you to get a jump on working on them if you should find yourself crunched for time, stuck with builders-block or worried you may have to drop out. This way you can build them when you like and then simply take the pictures when the round begins :)

Application: build a 2 BDRM, 1.5 BA house on a 2x2 lot. It can be 1 or 2 stories. It must include a living room, kitchen and dining room. You may include up to 2 additional rooms (i.e. den, study, library, game room, etc). Please remember to label your rooms either on the picture or using flooring and a color key within your post.

Required Pictures:
(1) One front exterior shot
(1) Labeled top-down floor plan shot for each story (i.e. 2 stories=2 pictures)
(1) Builders choice picture. It can be an angle you particularly like or a detail you want to draw attention to. It’s up to you, be creative!

Round One: Suburban castles
Sally Sim just purchased a lovely 2x3 lot and she’d love to build a castle, however the local homeowners association has being breathing down her neck to conform. Can you build her a castle that isn’t going to get her fined? Your task is to build a castle-esque home that will fit in the heart of suburbia.

Requirements: 2-3 stories, 3-4 BDRM, 2-3 BAs, foyer, formal dining room, parlor and family room. Exterior must be stone or brick. You may include towers, turrets and like if you can make them work with the requirements.

Required Pictures:
(1) One exterior front
(1) top down labeled floor plan shot for each story
(1) rear exterior shot

Round Two: Escher says what?
“Art is a way of life!” According to Luke Paintslinger. His empty 3x3 lot is a blank canvas to this artistic soul and he wants his house to reflect his eclectic moods and creative mind. Call it funky, call it wacky, even call it a mess just so long as Luke can call it home! Your task is to turn on the creative tap and create a modern light filled haven for a Sim whose life is all about his art!

Requirements: 1-2 stories, 2-4 BDRM, 1.5-3 BA, kitchen, living room, studio/gallery space. Unconventional style or layout is encouraged. You may add up to 3 bonus rooms if you like (bonus rooms are not required and you will not lose points for not using them)

Required Pictures:
(1) One exterior front
(1) top down labeled floor plan shot for each story
(1) rear exterior shot
(1) shot of the studio/gallery space from a sims perspective
(1) shot of gallery/studio space at your choice of angle (get creative!)

Round Three: Island in the sun
The Sunny Family finally saved enough simoleans to purchase their dream vacation home. With 3 kids and a dog they need something open and airy, with lots of space for the kids to play. They’d like a sun room or semi-enclosed patio space so they can enjoy the great outdoors, without actually being out of doors. Your task is to create a vacation home that is classic and able to withstand the test of time (and 3 rambunctious children).

Requirements: 2 stories, 3 BDRM, 2.5 BA. Kitchen/dining area (combined), living room, play room, and a sunroom or partially enclosed porch/patio area. You may include 1 bonus room if you like.

Required Pictures:
(1) One exterior front
(1) top down labeled floor plan shot for each story
(1) rear exterior shot
(2) shots of your choice

Round Four: Big is Beautiful
Well after 10 years of scrimping and saving the Porters are ready to buy the house of their dreams. With 10 grown children and 8 grand kids lots of space for guests is a must. Since they are getting on in years, a 1st floor bedroom and bath is a must for this retired farm family.

Requirements: 1st floor bd/ba, plenty of guest rooms and entertaining spaces. This one is almost entirely up to you. Number of stories, bedrooms, baths and bonus space is at your discretion.

I only ask that you don’t exceed these limits:
No more than 4 stories, 10 bedrooms/baths, and 4 bonus rooms
(Bonus rooms are defined as a room that is not a main feature of every house)

Required Pictures:
(1) One exterior front
(1) One top down labeled floor plan shot for each story
(1) One rear exterior shot
(2) Two shots of your choice. i suggest you make them count :)

3 days guys!

Sorry about the lighting in the pictures. I just installed a new lighting mod; that, while great while playing the game, isn't too friendly towards picture-takeing.

welcome aboard Kattenijin! thats an awesome house. the lights not that bad :) i like the open living area, one of my personal favorites in a floor plan.

in future rounds though (no biggie for the app so don't worry) please use several different flooring to 'color code' each room with a corresponding key. E.G: white=kitchen, blue=living room, wood=dining room, etc. just to avoid confusion for our judges.

Is CC allowed?? I read through the 1st post twice and couldn't see anything that says otherwise.
Basically i'm just talking walls, floors, terrains and plants.

longdaysend
8th Jun 2008, 1:06 PM
Starwyn-yup, CC is fine. since this isn't a decorating contest it doesn't give a 'visual advantage' or anything :P

Iceangel- i think thats a fine application entry, whats funny to me is that it looks exactlly like my next door neighbors house (the layout not the exterior). i'm glad you joined us and please remember, it's not about who is the best, it's about having fun and getting creative :D

i really like that green,it's so bright and uplifting :) thats a nice, well thought out plan, good flow. i like it! welcome and thanks for joining us!

everyone please remember you may start work on the other rounds at any time! all requirements are posted except for picture req. which will be posted as each round starts. this prevents any one posting a round too soon and confusing the heck out of me,the judges and everyone else :P

Thanks so much longdaysend! I'm not particularly talented at building but like you said this is for fun and i do enjoy doing it. One more question though. For the landscaping may we use decorative items such as statues, fountains etc?

longdaysend
9th Jun 2008, 5:12 AM
I'd say yes to fountains and Large statuary pieces, as long as it is not excessive. for the most part we want the entries to look as much like new construction housing as possible, because no one has ever lived there if you get what I'm saying. also, thanks for reminding me, in round 1 you may use indoor fountains if you like as these are generally built at the same time as the house :)

so 1 or 2 fountains or statues is fine, but an entry with more than say 4 will be asked to change it or face a 0 for the round. fair enough?
:D

good,Star have fun, if you enjoy the building process thats all that matters in the end, after all :)

Hey, guys! Good to see you all; I've been gone for a bit, and this contest looked so good I wanted to join.

This is actually modeled from a house I see on our way to the lake. Of course, being Sims, the proportions are not quite right, but I do like it. I had to guess on the interior.

oh bugger! I've finished my castle LOL It's a single story too but it looks 2 story so i should be able to adjust it :D what's a parlour?

p$ycho$immer
12th Jun 2008, 12:35 AM
A parlor is basically a formal living room with a fancier name. It was used frequently in the Victorian era to describe the most ornate (and likely the most used) room in the house, which is what we now call the living room. :p

ahh frustration, is there anything sweeter? :P i kid of course. shelby relax, enjoy it, and don't worry about perfection. you guys have 5 days or so to finish the round so don't beat your head against a wall trying to get it in immediately. i promise the rest of the rounds are much easier to complete...think of this as as 'testing your meddle' for lack of a better phrase. not that that makes it feel any better but I'm not very good at the motivational speeches bit, lol.

yes star at least 2 stories, it can be one room on the second story but it has to be there :)

no eliminations? says who? are you guys making up rules behind my back? thats just bad form >:( shame on you all for such skulduggery! (isn't that an awesome word?)

Remy, s'all good :) as a general rule the rest of the rounds will have mostly the same picture requirements, just so you know. there will be slight changes but the main ones (exterior and floor plans) will stay the same for every round.

I don't think it's a requirement shelbylove. I think as long as the rooms are labelled correctly it's all good :)

And, I've finished all 5 , neener neener ;)

I went to edit the landscaping for the Round 3 lot, 'cause I found some great new plants, and realized the "sunroom" is on the side of the house that gets NO SUN!! lol! So I fliped it. And now it looks stupid on the lot. *sigh* I guess I spoke too soon lol!

i'm here :) no toilets and cabinets aren't a requirement, i only allow it because most people like to show the layout of the kitchens and such. not a big deal as long as the rooms are labeled.

*points and laughs at Katt a la nelson* ha ha! :P

okay guys, i'm just waiting for 1 more judge, since theres no eliminations lets begin round 2 so we stay on schedule :) i will post scores/comments once i have all 3 judges results.

soooo, i'm going to post the picture requirements for round 2 now and change the thread title.

ETA: since the missing judge has still not replied, i've sent it off to the EJ and i am hoping to get the scores and comments up by tomorrow at he latest. i'm sorry guys, for the delay..at least this time it's not my fault! :smash:

Also, the last two rounds, are there lot size requirements?

Thanks!

longdaysend
19th Jun 2008, 5:11 AM
i'd say the 23rd as the end of this round..the last 2 will be somewhat shorter but it can't be helped. i'm still waiting on the scores from either the EJ or the regular judge at this point for round 1.

the final round is no lot size limit and the 3rd round is max 4x4..but you can go smaller if you like.

Lower Level:

Ok, now I have a problem. I can get either this:
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u159/kattenijin/snapshot_00000028_756729bf.jpg
That shows the beams...

Or, I can get this:
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u159/kattenijin/snapshot_00000028_f5672a17.jpg
That shows the roof...

but I can't figure how to get both in the same pic, mainlt as the "beams" are on the second floor, not the first.

And the only angle that I feel shows off the gallery spaces best is:
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u159/kattenijin/snapshot_00000028_b5672adb.jpg

I've read the pic tutes, but obviously I'm missing something!

And, the "third" floor is mainly volume for the gallery spaces, plus two "view" areas, so I didn't really count it as a floor, as none of it is liveable.

p$ycho$immer
20th Jun 2008, 7:13 AM

The roof tool is your best friend, don't just slap the auto roof on houses and they will look 10x better. Other than that, I like it. The pond is a nice touch.

Kattenijin:
Creativity: 10/10
Appearance: 5/5
Playability: 4/5

Omg, I love it! Looks like some of the houses in Pebble Beach! The only think, and this is just me, its a bit big, some of those rooms might not get use. At least in my game.

Remyohmy:
Creativity: 10/10

Playability: 5/5

Love it! Cute house, love the vines.

IceAngel:
Creativity: 8/10

Very nice but the outside is a bit blah. And the roof is a bit much. But altogether its good.

Starwyn:
Creativity: 9/10

I love the turrets. The middle roof is a bit much though.

SharnaPax:

Great, great, great! Can't even think of any critiques!

PsychoSimmer:

It looks a bit boxy to me... Love the outside though. Looks very castley (not a word, I know.)

IceAngel:
Creativity 9,
Appearance 4,

Comments: Nice stone work,Perfect for castles. Landscaping is ok. I like the idea of a breakfast nook and a walk in wardrobe, This Would suit a rich family that would typically live here. Overall, Lovely castle.

Sharnapax:
Creativity 8,
Appearance 4,
Playability 5=17

Comments: Good job. Unusual choice of wall paint used. I like the use of trees to make it more secluded. Excellent floor plan. Very livable. Overall, Great castle.

Remyohmy:
Creativity 8,
Appearance 4,
Playability 5=17

Comments: Good job. Detail on front exterior is awesome. Good floor plan(nice shaped rooms). Wasnt too keen on exterior wall paint, But that's just personal preference. Overal, Very nice castle.

Shelbylove:
Creativity 7,
Appearance 3,
Playability 5=15

Comments: Great House. Could do with a bit more landscaping. Window placement could also be a bit neater. Although very homely It isnt really that castle like,as i could see it as a family home rather than a castle. However Very good effort this round. it is a lovely home with a great interior floor plan. Overall, Good effort.

Py$co$immer:
Creat 8
Appearance 5
Playability 5

Comments: I love the brickwork you have chosen as it complements the house very well. Good use of landscaping used and excellent floor layout. Very good entry well done. Overall Superb. Looks fabulous.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shelbylove

Your round one was pretty disappointing. I can't see anything castle-like in the house you posted. I find it nothing unusual at all, I think you could do better with this one. It is not even very creative and has no landscaping (I substracted no points for this). Think medieval AND suburban.
It is playable so I only wanted to substract a point because I don't like all the walls to be perpendicular, but then I didn't.

Creativity 3/10
Appearance 2/5
Playability 5/5

Kattenijin

I love this one. No unused space, great architecture, landscaping, appearance. The tower is very realistic, but it is still appropiate for suburbanic neighborhood. Great job! I don't want to substract points just because it would seem perfect. But it is.

Creativity 10/10
Appearance 5/5
Playability 5/5

Remyohmy

This is great, I love the rustic feeling and especially the front. I will only substract a point for playability, because I don't feel right about the 2nd floorplan. Too many halls! Otherwise, I don't have anything to preach about.

Creativity 10/10
Appearance 5/5
Playability 4/5

IceAngel12891

Great job this round just as the application. But I didn't just find what I was looking for in your entry. I dislike the stoniness of the house. It seems like it's a peasant/merchant house, not a castle really. You weren't very creative with the roof, so I'll give you less points for creativity and one less for appearance. Playability is OK.

Creativity 8/10
Appearance 4/5
Playability 5/5

Starwyn

Oops! I don't think Sally would get away without a fine with this one! This is very fairytale-like, I miss realistic and playability in it. Also it's beeing too bright and uncomfortable, after all, it should have a warm, homely feeling. I don't like the too symmetrical appearance of your house and the wallprint wich doesn't fit in suburban at all. Too many spare rooms!

Creativity 7/10
Appearance 4/5
Playability 3/5

SharnaPax

Gee, I'm lovin' it! May you read my comment on kattenijin's entry? Yours would have been very similar, the only thing I dislike is the way roof is way too much over the edge of wall (tower). But I know perfection is hard to reach.

Creativity 10/10
Appearance 5/5
Playability 5/5

p$ycho$immer

Uncreative flooring and wallprints. Too big for suburban. That's why I substracted points. Next time try to add more variability to your entry.

Appearance 3/5
Playability 5/5

Just a side note, I had some trouble with my graphics card, so I took that out and cleaned the fans, etc. The game then wouldn't load. I upgraded drivers; the game loads the neighborhood, then goes wonky.

Luckily I had done the house and taken *some* screenshots a few days ago. I had actually made a few changes to the house and was going ingame to take new screenshots when all this happened. Anyway, I'll try a few more things tomorrow, but for now these shots will have to do!

----

I hope Luke likes his new house. It's certainly eclectic. There's plenty of space for expanding his loft studio. Being an artist, I figured he would want bright interior colors, but I didn't want anything too jarring outside since the design itself is odd. I made the colors blend a little into the surroundings, and it turned out being slightly retro-looking.

Note: The turret at the top is simply an entry onto the rooftop, should he want to utilize that space.

Starwyn, thanks! Yes, the windows are Windkeeper's "Helios".

It seems that a lot of us are suddenly having problems accessing the game!

I've narrowed my problems down a little; tomorrow I'm going to re-install (yeah, that 3-hour crapfest of intense tedium and boredom). I hope that some dll or strange file has corrupted somewhere. If that doesn't work, it's probably time for a new graphics card, and... ack! Money is tight right now. I hope I can get one in the next few days.

I hope your problems solve soon, too.

starwyn
24th Jun 2008, 2:07 PM
Try using a different neighbourhood. If that works you know it's the neighbourhood. Or you could actually delete that neighbourhood from the sims 2 folder before loading the game? That worked for me once.

kattenijin
24th Jun 2008, 2:21 PM
Have you tried deleting the chache files?

SharnaPax
24th Jun 2008, 3:52 PM
Yes, I've done all of that, believe me. I can't get into *any* neighborhood at all, but I can open them in SimPE.

I'm having my first coffee of the morning, then I do a re-instill. With luck, just re-installing FT will work.

longdaysend
24th Jun 2008, 6:11 PM
well seeing as we're still missing people and things are kinda hair for some...this round stays open until the rest get theirs in..if we have to drop the 4th round so be it...i got caught up watching hackers last night (haven't seen that in about 8 years) and i was so busy laughing at the outdated computers that i lost track of time :P

so i'll take a vote...leave the round open for those who need more time and drop the last round if time gets too tight OR end it now and eliminate those who are running late?

IceAngel12891
24th Jun 2008, 6:44 PM
Maybe we should just keep it open another day or two? I don't think we should wait like, 5 days or anything, but a couple days wouldn't be too bad.

Remyohmy
24th Jun 2008, 7:24 PM
dang nabbit. my stupid game won't load! I seriously tried 10 times and nothing is working. I even took out my d-loads folder. I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop :[

SharnaPax
24th Jun 2008, 7:36 PM
Keeping the round open a bit wouldn't hurt. I usually hate extensions, but so many of us are suffering problems right now.

Off topic (sorry for the chatter), but my problem was the graphics card. The cooling fan broke and it was overheating to a scary degree just trying to load the game; thankfully I found that before any major meltdown happened. I put my old card in, so I can get online, but it's not going to load the game at all (I won't even attempt it).

I can probably get a new card tonight (saw a great one on sale the other day, if it's still there on the rack). If not tonight, then surely by this weekend.

kattenijin

Having been one of those who had to drop out due to computer issues, I empathise. At the same time, all the round info was given at the start of the contest, and I've been finished with all my lots for over a week now, I'm just waiting for the round required pictures. I vote for elimination. Sorry.

Looking good, specially exterior. The interior doesn't seem homely at all (big, cold rooms), so I thought of substracting another point for playability, but then I didn't. But I love your shot of gallery, so all points for appearance! Creativity is 9/10, but only because I think tkat for 10 perfection in required and I miss something in your entry - not sure what anyway.

Playability 5/5 =19/20

Comments: WOW. Another great Entry that is Creativily Complex which i love. Your Room Layout is always interesting and I love how your rooms are different shapes and sizes. The amount of Windows you have used is perfect for a creative person and really makes the house look very modern. Your Landscaping is also very Varied and Interesting and again you have been very creative when coming up with this house. you have definately achieved the aim of a "light filled heaven" as thats exactly what your house is.

Sharnapax:
Creativity 9/10
Appearance 5/5
Playability 5/5 =19/20

Coments: I really like this house and i feel it is by far your strongest entry yet. I love your use of colours on the outside to compliment the natural landscape. The shape of your home is also very interesting and would suit this person with" Eclectic moods" very well. Again your use of windows of different shapes and sizes also adds depth to this house and makes it more modern and artistic.

Iceangel12891:
Creativity 9/10
Appearance 4/5
Playability 5/5 =18/20

Comments: I love your entry. Again window placement is spot on and i think with the criteria of an artisic person Windows are extremely important. I like the fact that your exterior walls are white, as this creates the ultimate "modern" look to the house and makes the landscaping all the more prominent. Your landscaping is good and overall you have produced a lovely home.

if anyone cares the leader board as it stand right now is;
sharna with 116 pts.
Katt with 112 pts.
and Iceangel with 107 pts.!

this round ends on the 30th at noon :)

I appologise for the photos, apparently I've fubared the lighting file, but I refuse to do a re-install untill AFTER the contest is over.

A lovely Country Cottage, reminiscent of the farm buildings originally on the lot. Gardens have been kept simple, because who wants to spend all their time gardening on vacation?!

I installed Ikea Stuff and forgott to remove my camera mod first, so now I have stupid EA cameras back. *pouts* Thought I was using Gunmod's camera hacks, but apparently not, now I don't remember who's I was using. *sigh*

Thanks for the good comments. I actually didn't use any beige, just a lot of yellow and the bathroom upstairs is like a lime green, but I guess they do kind of look beige =] And SharnaPax, your entry WAS amazing, so great job!

Iceangel, thank you for your kind words! Also thanks to the judges. I entered this contest because I rarely build anything nice, I just plop down stuff and start playing, so I wanted to challenge myself. And I never, ever do landscaping. It's funny because my husband actually *is* a landscaper, so he gave me tips for those little garden areas in round 2.

Just wanted to say the deadline for round 3 is going to be tight. I've ordered a new video card (oooh, I can't wait!) and a bigger power supply so it can handle the honkin' new card. I did 2-day shipping, but the invoice says I will receive by June 30 (ack). We'll see!

ETA: kattenijin, I love that house!

I know what you mean, I usually just redecorate the houses that I download and the houses I build usually all turn out pretty much the same, so I figured I'd learn some stuff with this contest.
SharnaPax-Your welcome =] I hope you get your round in! I'm jealous, I wish I could get a new video card lol.

What's missing is the furniture and the wall color, lol! I always use beige tones for building contests, so as not to take away from the structure. I decided to use this for one of my simmies, and after a few tweeks, it certainly isn't cold any longer; the furniture filled up the space pretty quickly too. I'll take some pics and add them next time I play. (Although,it probably won't be soon, I'm currently imersed in "The Settlers-Rise of an Empire")

longdaysend, in all the contests I've been in I've never asked for an extension (I hate them!), but I need one now.

The video card didn't come in, but it should be here sometime tomorrow (through the tracking, it's been in Little Rock since Friday evening, but UPS doesn't deliver on weekends ... blech!). Barring installation complications, I can get the landscaping done for round 3 and do the screenshots easily tomorrow.

I've just spent three hours ingame trying to do it with this older card, and simply attempting to revolve around the lot is a study in jittery patience, not to mention the detail is not there.

Add to that, I spent a couple of hours helping the spousal unit fix the dryer (my job also consisted of keeping four cats out of all the various pieces and folderall, and I'm frazzled).

I need a drink and a long bath lol.

Anyway, my apologies to all for holding everyone up. I hate this. I'm so sorry. I love this contest and want to finish it.

Sharna,in the words of a gret philosopher, may the force be with you. i can give you one more day but i either need to drop round 4 (whith if ice doesn't get hers in would be pointless anyway) or have it only last 2 days in order to meet our contest deadline. that being said, we will cross that bridge when we come to it (aka tomorrow). extention granted.

on a side note i have 3 kids with chicken pox right now so thats why i've been sort of awol myself this past round. but we're heading into the scabby stage so it's almost over :)

kattenijin
30th Jun 2008, 5:46 PM
Considering a vaccine against chickenpox has been available since 1995, and has been mandated for school admission since 2001, I'm surprised they managed to catch it.

IceAngel12891

I'll have mine in =] I kinded needed the extension myself to finish landscaping and stuff. So the round is due tomorrow now?

longdaysend
30th Jun 2008, 6:02 PM
Kat we don't vaccinate for religious reasons, and they caught it ,during a weekly play date, from a friend who was vax'ed that morning. i wish their mother had just called and told me before hand, but thats neither here nor there and completely off topic. :)

yeah I'll leave the round open until tomorrow since Sharna is working to resolve her issues and get her entry in. if i ever do the last cycle of this there will be no extensions given. it's kinda ironic that i make the rounds all ahead of time and post them to avoid the extension insanity and yet every round has needed one by somebody *eye roll* so much for my foresight.

IceAngel12891
30th Jun 2008, 9:18 PM
I'm sorry about needing the extension, I have all the rounds done but it just so happened that when my game was messed up the other week this rounds lot didn't make it so I had to redo it all.

OT-Even if you have the vaccination you can still get chicken pox, thats what happened to my nephew. That was when the vaccine had only been available for a few years though.

Oh, oh and oh. I'm here! After waiting all freakin' day for UPS, the package finally got here at 7:10 pm. Jeeeez. I wasn't worried about the video card, but this new power supply... um, I had to wait for my son to get off his shift at midnight to come help me, and that took two hours, plus much fiddling. I fixed him a really good dinner, though.

Then I went ingame, and we oohed and ahhhed at the wonderful detail. I thought I was going to have to pull an all-nighter to complete the landscaping, but it didn't take much.

I know, I'm spamming with chatter, but I'm just so happy. It looks so beautiful! I'm going to load photoshop and get my screenies done. I don't want to take any more time than I have to.

Thanks for the extension!

Oh, and I do know what you're going through, longdaysend. Long ago, I had two of them go through that together, despite vaccinations. It happens. My condolences. I remember that weird smell, too, when they sweat with the pox (ick, let me shudder a moment).

While I did this house, a small story came to mind. This is an older beach vacation home, adored through many generations. Additions were added as needed through time, somewhat haphazardly. The siding and shingles couldn't always be made to match. But still, it's weathered time and elements, rambunctuous children and pets, and it's sheltered much love, laughter and growth. I hope the Sunny's will be as happy here as the several previous owners.

Dosen't the contest have to start with at least 10 people for the winner to qualify for a star (and including the aplication, we already have four rounds)? And with only two people left, why even bother?

You can have as little or as many rounds as you would like or you can manage in the time allotted (1 month). But for your contestants to be able to earn a star, they must have won a contest with 4 rounds (yes, the application round is included in those four rounds).

if both of you are in agreement then we can end it now with a winner being the top score. just let me know at some point today if thats what y'all want :) I'm sorry things got so crazy, although for once (yay!) it wasn't because my life got in the way. once the trauma of this one is a distant memory for me I'll submit the final cycle for those who liked the contest and had to drop out or missed the application deadline... most likely not until after i move and get our lives back in order.

if we're ending it now i'll post the scores and announce the winner at some point tonight or tomorrow.

longdaysend, I'm fine with ending it now, if kattenijin agrees. It does seem odd to go ahead with only two contestants.

I did like this contest a lot, and I will certain look for others from you. I particularly liked how you posted the round information at the start, so that everyone could work at their own pace. That was a breath of fresh air.

Thank you for your hard work.

I just had a lot of nitpicky things with this house, I didn't like the roof, it didn't seem to go with anything else, if you had had some red elsewhere it might have worked. Things are too far from each other, and I didn't like the front of the garage paint choice, personally I would have gone with the clapboard all around. I did like the pool area and the upstairs sunroom. Those were my favorites about this round.

SharnaPax:

Love, love, love it! Want it for my game! I love that its on a beach lot and the weathered clapboard. Very cute. I do wish that you had used a different roof over the sunroom, if not the actual greenhouse roof. Great entry!

Great entry again, you showcased a rustic home very good. I love these gentle colours of background. But I don't like the big hall and square rooms in the second floor, so I'll distract a point.

Comments: I loved this house. The Red Roof works really well and completely finishes off the house nicely. I think the Landscaping you have used is spot on for this style of house and is attractive yet managable. Room layout is good and you have used windows well also. Great entry.

Sharnapax: Creativity 9 Appearance 4 Playability 5

Comments: I Loved this house also. I really like the shape of your house and feel that you are always creative with coming up with room layouts. I'm not really too keen on all the different exterior wall styles on the rear, but hopefull the family moving in is more modern than I am. Overall a really great entry and I have really enjoyed all your entries througout this contest.

Oh, wow! Thank you!

Like I said earlier, I joined this contest to force myself to build more creatively, instead of just plopping a foundation down and adding rooms. I guess it worked! I'm actually going to save these houses, I think, and if any of you want to share yours I would love to have them.

Longdaysend, great contest. I did enjoy it very much and look forward to more from you. kattenijin, my formidable opponent, you were superb.
