View Full Version : The Greatest Family Ever - Winner ANNOUNCED!!!
20th Apr 2008, 11:09 PM
This contest belongs in Other.
Every neighborhood has one. That family. They're genuinely friendly, outgoing, and all-around great. They have the best cookouts, the most friends, even the cutest pets, and everyone wants to be near them. The greatest family ever is not necessarily the biggest family, or the perfect nuclear family, or the one with the spotless house and gorgeous garden. But there is something about them.
In this contest, you will enter a family consisting of at least one adult and at least one child. This family is considered the coolest around by everyone, but it's up to you to figure out why. Keep in mind that even the greatest family ever is not perfect. Throughout this contest, you will explore its best aspects and its flaws. To win, you must prove that it's truly the greatest family ever.
:here: NOTE: I know it's back-to-school time, and everyone is busy with RL responsibilities, but please note that every round will encompass a weekend. That should help if you're worried about having enough time to participate.
:here: Rules and Guidelines
1. Follow all S2C contest guidelines. This includes sim-stealing, which in turn includes sim-tweaking.
2. You must enter a family. This means at least one parent and at least one offspring of any race/species.
3. Parents do not have to be biological or even “legal” parents, but they must be parent figures and must be adults. Offspring must be infants, toddlers, children, or teens. All gender configurations are fine, but one child (at least) must be old enough to attend school. Pets are allowed.
4. Photoshopping is permitted provided it is minimal and tasteful, but mad Photoshop skillz are not required.
:here: Scoring, Elimination, Etc.
Contestants with the lowest round scores will be eliminated each round except the application round. Failure to submit an entry for any round prior to its deadline is also grounds for elimination, but you knew that. ;)
You mainly will be judged on creativity/originality, storyline, and how well you portray your family's greatness. You will NOT be judged on beauty or Photoshopping in any of the rounds. At some point, there will be at least one optional bonus task, which can add up to five points to your round score if completed.
Additional prize donations from others are very welcome.

I am definitely in this sound so much fun!! :)
23rd Sep 2008, 10:25 PM

23rd Sep 2008, 10:29 PM
Sounds great. :)
24th Sep 2008, 3:53 AM
And can I ask how long rounds will be? Given a sudden and violent deluge of homework, I can only do simmy stuff on weekends... so will every round encompass a weekend? And for my purposes, fridays are not weekends.
24th Sep 2008, 9:57 PM
Yes. Thanks to a stroke of good fortune, all rounds will last from 3ishPM Friday to 8PM Tuesday.
24th Sep 2008, 11:19 PM
Oooooh. I wanna enter.
I want someone else to post their application first though since I'm new to this and don't know exactly how it should look.
25th Sep 2008, 9:21 PM

I am planning on joining. This would be my first contest! I am so excited!
EDIT: would it be ok if the "parent" is an elder with adopted children?
26th Sep 2008, 12:03 AM
As long as the children are toddlers, kids, or teens, then that should be fine.
26th Sep 2008, 12:06 AM
Thanks, ill get my app in!
26th Sep 2008, 12:50 AM
Uuuuuugh fine I'll apply first. I'm new to this so if I do something wrong tell me and I'll fix it.

Kindhearted Darien enjoys cooking; he's vegan despite being a vampire, and knows lots of innovative recipes to make the soy product taste like the real thing.
Name - Heather LaRue
Age - 26

Adopted child Hayley loves Hello Kitty more than anything else in the world, but secretly wishes her pacifist father would allow her to play with toy guns.
Opposites often attract, but do they stay together? Darien the shy, innocent and slightly hippie-ish pacifist and Heather the trigger-happy sultry stripper are determined to prove that they do, not to mention that they manage juggling blood-drinking with child-rearing after adopting their daughter Hayley. Therefore the LaRues are the greatest family ever.

26th Sep 2008, 4:12 AM
Apps look great, guys!
goddessmoon, I had in mind free shots that showed the family's everyday life, rather than what happened the day they tried to take the posed shot, but your pictures are too funny. You can go ahead and leave them, as apps aren't going to be scored.
26th Sep 2008, 2:11 PM
Ok thanks. The sad part is the issues were NOT at all on purpose. My sims just cant behave.
I also have 3 other pics with the dogs, can i post those?
I might try and get an application in. I just redownloaded my game.
26th Sep 2008, 9:31 PM
Is it too late to apply? Because I really fancy doing this contest.
26th Sep 2008, 11:08 PM
You can still apply, we've only gotten two applications, so please add in yours!
26th Sep 2008, 11:11 PM
Definitely not too late to apply. I'd love to have you, and anyone else who's thinking about it. :)
I'm going to go ahead and post Round 1 tonight so we stay on schedule, but apps will stay open until we have enough.
26th Sep 2008, 11:12 PM
Okies, I'll try and post this weekend then. I'm still trying to decide how to do my family
26th Sep 2008, 11:44 PM
This sounds like a lot of fun and a great distraction from the stressing of school! :)
I really want to apply. Just one little problem: I can't play Sims at least until Monday, because my brother is going to reinstall our computer this weekend. I hope I can still post my application after that and that I get everything finished in time (if I do the same thing here as with my homework that can be a problem, lol). ;)
27th Sep 2008, 12:47 AM
Monday should be fine. I can't wait to see your app. :)
27th Sep 2008, 2:29 AM
The public schools in Sim City leave much to be desired, and you've decided to look into the local private school. The fine establishment’s headmaster, who is very wealthy and sophisticated, calls and informs you that he'd like to meet you and the children at your home. He will want a tour of the house, a nice dinner, and plenty of chance to schmooze with the adults and get to know the kids.
In this round, you will try to impress the headmaster, and you will be judged on creativity, greatness of your family, and the storyline that you follow. Please include a brief description of how the evening went including answers to the following questions.
• Were your children accepted to the private school?
• Will your children attend the private school?
Please include a headshot of each school-age child (that is, each child and teen) on a plain background. In addition, please include 3-4 images of the evening. At least one must show dinner with the headmaster, and the rest should show your family impressing him in your home. This is a total of at least four images.
Round 1 is due at 8PM EST on Tuesday, September 30. Note that apps are still open, as we will need 8 more contestants in order to continue to Round 2. Please join if you've been considering it! :)
27th Sep 2008, 10:12 AM

Willow and Wren get along like a house on fire.
Dylan doing what he does best... inventing!
Why are the Fairbanks the greatest family ever?
After the loss of his wife during the birth of his second daughter, against all odds Dylan Fairbanks raised both children single-handedly and managed to keep the family business of Robotics going. Many people in the engineering community respect him; not only for his amazing robotics talent, but for his dedication for his two daughters. Not only does he find the time to home-school Willow (he believes that Willow is too intelligent for school and that only he could teach her the skills she needs), but he has repeatedly amazed the engineering community with robotic works of art.
Rumour has it that he is currently working on an amazing new invention, a robotic butler. Building such a feat of engineering would take months of hard work to perfect, will Dylan be able to juggle his hectic family life as well as his latest project?

Pia's husband Gerard left the family without saying a word (rumor is it that he's seeing another woman who lives in another part of Simville after Pia turned to the world of witchery). She didn't have anyone who respected her desicion of becoming one, except her father-in-law, who lived with the family so he can help out.
However, she said to us that she was glad that she became a witch, for it made life a little easier (less time to clean, always safe from fires, etc.). This also enabled her and Marvin to spend more time with the twins.
Being able to juggle a lot of very different activities without losing sleep made the Gustavs the coolest family ever.

Mayee: Okay, it all started when everyone in the family was discussing our career options. Of course, my dream career is somewhere where a lot of communication skills are involved, while my brother is into being a surgeon like Grandpa. All of a sudden, the idea of a private school popped into Grandpa's mind.
Naturally, my mom was a little worried. First of all, it was quite far from home. Second, it would be expensive. Grandpa mentioned to us that the only things you need were a great looking house and delicious gourmet food.
My mom said, "Okay. Go for it."
So yeah, she called an appointment for a visitation with the headmaster. He said to her, that he would come at 5 PM. So, we spent the whole day preparing the house, while mom was busy with cooking (...but she left us with cleaning even if she can clean the whole house in 10 seconds...why Mom, why?)
5 PM came, and everyone was shaking with nervousness and excitement...Being used to these kinds of stuff, I went to the door, greeted him and went to the living room.
Gah, Mom was still preparing food, so we decided, "Maybe I should give him a tour of the house."
...and so I did.
(my brother's room)
According to him, the house was very nice and fit for conductive learning, or something like that...
Finally, mom was done with dinner. Breaded porkchops with Crispy Spinach. Now, Grandpa said something about our table manners and this might be our chance to be really accepted.
So there, we tried our best to follow peoper decorum and dining etiquette. However, the headmaster himself was an even messier eater. He would even lick his fingers (Mom and I just laughed it off while my brother, the neat-freak he is, scowled in disgust).
Before he went, the headmaster asked us if any of us had any special abilities. Suddenly, my mom pointed her wand at the dishes and borught them to the sink, then enchanted the dishwashing materials to clean them. That alone impressed Headmater Amin and accepted us to private school.
...and yes, we will attend the school.
Okay to answer the questions you probably have in mind:
1. It is not fake niceness. We really were ourselves during the visitation.
2. Seriously, Mom enchanting dishes probably was the one that made us accepted.
3. I can probably read your mind. Hehehehehe...
4. As you can see, we got accepted and will attend Simville Private Academy.

Last week, Dylan got a call from the local private school. The headmaster, Mr. Harris, had read an article about his work and wanted to offer Willow (and Wren when she was old enough) a place at his school, free of charge. Dylan was heisitant at first, he wasn't fond of the school's reputation of pressurising kids to do work and their strict rules. However, Dylan wasn't the kind of guy to pass up a free offer, so invited the headmaster over to visit the family home.
Mr. Harris was imediately impressed with Willow. "To see the television off and a child reading is a rare sight nowadays," he remarked with a smile. Willow was against the whole idea of school, she hated the idea of uniforms, school dinners and teachers. In her eyes, her father was her only teacher.
The family meal went well. Dylan had spent all week memorising and learning the recepie for Lobster (Willow had reminded him that his famous Grilled Cheese Sandwiches proberbly wouldn't go down well) and thankfully, nothing was burnt.
At the end of the evening, Mr. Harris approched Dylan. He was delighted with Willow, and apparently Wren was "a bright girl, years ahead of her age". The two youngest Fairbanks' had been accepted into private school! However, Dylan wasn't entirely sold. He had found Mr. Harris rather false, and he seemed much more interested in test scores and the Sim State school leaderboard than in his students. He obviously could think of nothing better than Dylan Fairbanks, the Dylan Fairbanks', children attending his school.
When Mr. Harris said, "Your daughters will be a great asset to my school", that pretty much confirmed it for Dylan. He shot down the offer there and then, and remarked that he'd rather teach his children and they be happy, then to send them off to some private school were they'd just be another number in the system.
"You're making a big mistake, Fairbanks!" was the last thing Mr. Harris said before storming out of the door.

Great apps and R1s, guys! I love the creativity.
All right, everyone: Please post/complete your applications and remember to post your R1 entries by TOMORROW at 8PM EST. That's 28 hours from this post, so you should have plenty of time, I think. We only need one more app by then to continue. I'm excited to really get going! :)
29th Sep 2008, 11:06 PM
what if no one posts an app by tonight? is round 1 still due tomorrow?
29th Sep 2008, 11:37 PM
The application round and Round One both end tomorrow night, as things stand now. At the very beginning of the contest there was a four-day application period, during which only two apps were turned in. So this is really R1 and has been since the 26th, but apps will be open until there are ten contestants. Since I know there are contestants who have just entered an app or haven't even done that yet, I'm willing to extend R1 by a day or be flexible with the timing, but I'd prefer to stay on schedule, so I won't do that unless a specific need is expressed.
Does that clear things up? :)

It was Heather's idea to invite the headmaster and try to get Hayley accepted into private school. Currently being posh and wealthy, she thought private school an important part of every child's life, especially because she missed out on it herself during her poverty-stricken childhood. So she went upstairs and primped herself, leaving Darien to do all the work impressing the headmaster as usual. Hayley, of course, was busy doing her homework so she could actually maintain the grades she would need to enter private school.
Darien spent about half an hour showing the headmaster different rooms in the house, hoping that by the end of the tour Heather would be done with her makeup and would come downstairs to help him with dinner.
Of course, no dice. After the house tour Heather was still upstairs, so Darien filled up the time schmoozing with the headmaster. He wasn't very good at it, being rather socially inept, but the headmaster seemed to be pleased enough.
Finally Heather got her butt downstairs and helped Darien prepare his famous totally vegan tofurkey dinner. Darien was excellent at cooking, stemming from the fact that as a vegan he could hardly ever buy prepared foods and thus had to make all his food himself, so the meal impressed the headmaster greatly.
After the tour and the delicious dinner, the headmaster accepted Hayley into private school. But Darien wasn't sure this was the best idea. If Hayley attended the private school, the school would have records about the home and occupations of her parents. What if a school official came to call in the middle of the day and found Darien and Heather sleeping in their coffins? What if something else happened that would lead the school to find out that Hayley's parents were vampires? After bringing this up to Heather the next night (and getting into a fight with her over it the next night too, Heather giving poor Darien his fair share of bruises) he managed to convince her that it wasn't safe for them to have Hayley in private school, and called to pull her out. Unfortunately this was just one of the many setbacks Hayley had to deal with being the adopted child of two vampires.
Hayley didn't seem to mind much, however. On her first day of private school she got twice as much homework as she would have gotten in public school, and was relieved not to have to do it all. Perhaps private school was just never the right place for her in the first place.

One day Robyn came home saying that she was scared to go to school. So being a mom I was worried. Ryan explained to me that there had been a HUGE fight at school that day. I became just as scared as Robyn. I asked Rhonda about her day and found out that someone was seriously hurt in the fight. Right then all 3 of them started yelling about how none of the teachers did anything but cheer on the fight! I called Max and he advised me to call the school, so I did. The response was shocking… the principal told me that she did not care about my children’s feelings! In return I told her that my children would not be coming back to school at all that week. She hung up on me. I decided that it was time for a private school. Being the heir to the city fortune I was brought up in private school so why not put my own children in?
The next day the Headmaster came.
He came to the door and I realized it was my old headmaster Korey! We caught up and I took him on a tour of the house.
He complimented the decor in every room. Max made salmon for dinner, it was amazing!
Everyone loved the food and it was a great night in the end.
Were your children accepted to the private school?
Yes they were accepted.
Will your children attend the private school?
Yes they will attend.
Hope it is ok!

Danielle and Steele want the best opportunities for their children, and that starts with the children's education. When the local private school started accepting applications, they jumped on the chance to send Ward to the school. Maria is still too young to attend, but with Ward there, she will have a higher chance of being accepted when she is of age.
Picture of Ward
Charles Robinson, the headmaster, made an appointment to come see the Lauren's home and get to know the family. They are very particular on the types of students that they accept into their school.
They started off by playing a game of catch in the back yard, Danielle and little Maria were spectators on this one. Steele and Ward took turns playing with the Mr. Robinson.
After the ball game, Steele took Mr. Robinson on a quick tour of the family home, Mr. Robinson seemed rather pleased with what he saw.
The evening columnated with a nice dinner of roasted salmon with couscous and steamed squash. The food was delicious and everyone chatted while they enjoyed their food. At the end of the meal, Mr. Robinson let the family know that the school would be happy to have the children attend the school as they are such an upstanding family.
• Were your children accepted to the private school? Yes
• Will your children attend the private school? Of course

I would but i use the attachment upload and you can only upload 5 pics.
Is there a better way i don't know about?
Instead of adding the photos as an attachment, just upload the photos onto a site like tinypic.com or photobucket (like simcharley said). then use the insert image icon (the small yellow square next to the world icon) and copy & paste the link. You should be able to add all of the photos that way :)
For more help, check out this thread:
Great entries everyone! :)

I have got my round one photos taken but i shall not be able to get them edited and the stroy written by tonight :( but if i am allowed i will definitely be able to finish it and get it up by tomorrow. Would this be okay? :)
30th Sep 2008, 9:50 PM
What if I extend R1 until tomorrow at 4PM EST? That'd give the judges more time then they'd have if I extended by a full 24 hours, and hopefully we can stay on schedule.
(Another option is having no eliminations for R1 and extending it through what the judging period is supposed to be, and then having R1 judging during R2. But all of that may not be necessary, so I'll play that part by ear.)
I'll assume we're going with the 4PM tomorrow thing unless I find out that it won't work for people. Is that okay? icingtiara, it'd be great if you could go ahead and post your app ASAP. Then we'll have ten and be able to move on. :)

(i dont know why my pics turned out so crappy, im sry)
Nadia: My husband and I have been deciding weather or not we should send our children to a private school, so we invited the headmaster of a local school to our home to see what he had to say about it. We would of done this earlier but we didn't have the money.
The headmaster, BJ, arrived at 4:15 pm and myself and Sadie were still in the kitchen preparing our dinner. My husband showed him into the living room where they had a little talking time. This was his chance to get all the information we needed on the school.
At about 5 we sat down for dinner, we had my famous lobster dish. BJ complimented on it, "This is the best lobster I've ever had". During our discussions during dinner my two oldest children were not thrilled about entering a private school, they didn't want to leave their friends. So they were disappointed and didn't talk much.
After dinner BJ told my husband that my children were perfect for his school and he would love to have them come there. Daren thanked him for his time and told him that our oldest two would not be attending, but Morgan will.
Did we get accepted? Yes.
Will we attend? only Morgan.
whens the last day you will be accepting applications?

When Elliot Hudson put her daughters’ name down for the private school in Belladonna Cove she thought nothing of it, but just as it happens three months later she gets a call from the headmaster, Mr Shane Jones. He pleasantly asked her the offer still stands for Darcy to go to private school, Elliot just wanting the best for little Darcy agreed and arranged for Mr Jones to come over at 5pm for dinner and a chat.
Picture one. (http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk136/charley-29/Sims2EP82008-09-3020-54-36-53.jpg)
When he arrived Elliot sent Darcy down to greet him, he informed Darcy that he’s happy she makes a effort for his visiting because all the other families he visited the parents did all the work and the children sat watching TV or playing computer games. Soon after Elliot came down and introduced herself, and offered Mr Jones a tour of their apartment. Elliot showed him after their two-story home and he told her that it was a lovely home, and a suitable environment for a learning student.
While showing Mr Jones around he polity asked where Elliot’s husband was, Elliot had the embarrassment of telling him that Darcy’s dad left when she was one year old to go live with his younger girlfriend. He then changed the subject and asked some other information about the family. When Darcy asked if she could excuse herself to practise her much loved violin while the adult chatted, The headmaster asked if he could come up and listen also telling Darcy that there is a music course at the school for talented students.
To Darcy’s desire Mr. Jones loved her talent and said if she did attend the school she would defiantly be on the music course. “Mr Jones, I have prepared some dinner downstairs if you would like to join me and Darcy?” Elliot asked him. “That would be lovely thank you Miss Hudson.”
“Well may I say that was the best salad I have ever had Miss Hudson, and if I might add I would love Darcy in my school, it would be a pleasure to have her in my institution.” Of course Darcy agreed to start the next day; she was so excited to get started with that music course Mr jones told her about.
• Were your children accepted to the private school? Yes she was.
• Will your children attend the private school? Yup.

Meet the Family
Name: Thomas Grey
Hobby/Occupation: Tom is jokingly referred to as the dumb and dull one. His hobby is part of his work - that is he enjoys reading up-to-date and past texts on Psychology, and he is a Psychologist. The dumb part of his character, despite his profession, comes from being extremely clumsy and sometimes being completely idiotic!
Name: Derek Grey
Hobby: Derek enjoys cooking, and regularly tries to compete with his twin sister for kitchen domination.
Occupation: Derek enjoys martial arts immensely and teaches Ju Jitsu at the local centre for kids and teens.
Name: Dyna Grey
Hobby: While Dyna does like concocting delicious food, a hobby of hers is art and she can regularly be found in front of an easel or helping the little ones with their paints and crayons.
Occupation Dyna has been a chef now for many, many years in major cities around the world.
Name: Anya Grey
Hobby: Little Anya likes many things, particularly getting very mucky by messing around on the playground. However she has also taken little fancies to Science, martial arts and cooking thanks to her dad's and aunt.
Name: Dirk Grey
Hobby: Toddler Dirk adores bettering himself in the art of attention seeking, and making paint hands on the wall...
Name: Anna Grey
Hobby Anna likes being a little more creative than her brother - and likes to potter around the house with paint on her hands and feet. Apart from that she can very rarely be parted from her building blocks.
Name: Toby Grey
Age: 6 months
Hobby: While nobody can tell what baby Toby's hobbies will be in the future, his strong set of lungs suggest opera singing!
Tom would be one of the first to point out that no family is perfect, but he and Derek think they're pretty close to it. They both love children and started to look into adopting ten years ago. At the time they were judged too young and there were reservations about the lack of female presence in the household. But the two persevered and, despite a long road of setbacks and daunting interviews they were finally able to adopt their first child eight years ago. Anya was seven months old when she officially became a Grey, and the happy couple haven't looked back since. Dyna moved into their home two years ago after visiting for a couple of months and has only helped the household since then.
A slightly less hectic moment as the toddlers and Anya play at building things and Tom and Derek have a quiet moment of contentment.
The Terrible Twosome, Dirk and Anna are unsure of whether they like their new playground toys or not.
Despite appearances, Aunt Dyna is not the one who always gets left holding the baby...
1st Oct 2008, 2:17 PM
The Headmaster Cometh!
It had been early on in the day that the toddlers and baby Toby would be put to bed so as not to decide the headmaster was their simply to play with them! Unfortunately, astute little tots that they are, they simply didn't want to go to sleep and ended up joining in dinner. Tom tucked into his turkey feast but Derek could barely eat, so queasy was he with nerves. Anya chatted away with the headmaster and all seemed to be going well, despite the visitor's arrogance.
Tom was to show the headmaster around while Derek cleared away the fabulous food that his sister had prepared. Tom had been in front of a mirror for the better part of a day, pretending to be talking to the snooty headmaster so as to better impress him later on. It was a feat that should have come easily to him, after having spoken to vast crowds of people before. Unfortunately the headmaster appeared to be very disdainful, and the younger man bit his tongue to keep from saying anything wrong. The only time the balding elder gent appeared to be happy was when he spotted the books in Anya's bedroom... Perhaps things were starting to look up?
Just when Tom has thought there was a chance of getting through to the headmaster, he snootily announced that his time in their "quaint little house" was most definitely up. Even Derek has tried to coax the man into a deeper conversation but had had no luck. Once the headmaster was out of the house, and the roar of the car engine faded into the distance Tom's shoulders fell and he called for Anya to join them.
Her eyes were wide and hopeful when she trotted into the room - she had been reading on the INternet how fantastic this school was supposed to be, and knew as well that her dad's wanted the best possible education for her - but realised that things had not gone as expected when she saw their faces. She, however, bounced onto the couch cheerfully and surprised them both with her upbeat attitude. Anya assured them that there were going to be other awesome schools! And then ran off to the computer to find some.
• Were your children accepted to the private school?
No, and after seeing the snobbery in the headmaster, they were rather glad.
• Will your children attend the private school?
Not this one, and the search continues for a better school than the rundown public school closest to the Grey family.
I hope everything is okay with the application and round I entry. :)
1st Oct 2008, 2:26 PM
I fixed it! I showed him arriving
1st Oct 2008, 3:34 PM
Sooo, unfortunately I can't participate, because my brother still hasn't reinstallt our computer and now I still can't play... :( *sigh*
I really wanted too, though. :)
Well, hope I can next time.

It was around three o'clock when the twins got home from school. They walked casualy into the living room with bright red cheeks and cute little smiles on their faces, in their hands were two white crisp peices of paper.
"Hi mummy, guess what we did today?" Honey said with excitment on her face
"What?" i asked not sure what to say
"Mr Walter, from Driftwood school came to speak to us all about his school and what it does" my son, Luke, replied
"Hey, i was going to tell her that!"
"Look calm down guys, Driftwood high? Isn't that the local private school" I asked beginning to get worried, Driftwood school was very expensive and not even with two full wadges coming in could Blain and I afford that for all three of our children.
"YES, can we go mummy, PLEEEAAAASSSSEEEE" they both said looking excited
"Well why don't your dad and I discuss it first and we will tell you later?"
I knew the answer was going to have to be no, but like most mother i didn't like to disapont my children.
Fifteen minutes later Ava walked into the house holding hands with a guy i had never seen before.
"So who's your little friend Ava?" I asked with a smile
Looking embarised Ava replied, "Mum this is my boyfriend, Ryan"
"Nice to meet you Ryan" I said as i shaked his hand
That night while eating dinner (Ryan had gone home) I brought up the subject about Driftwood High.
"NO WAY AM I GOING, WHAT ABOUT ALL MY FRIENDS MUM AND DONT FORGET RYAN" Ava had shouted.
After she had said that a smile spread across my face, Blain and I had both known that we could afford fees for Honey and Luke only, so with Ava out the picture the twins were going to get ther wish after all.
Blain phoned the Mr Walter the folwing weekend and envited him over for tea. He was very pleased to come and couldn't wait to meet the twins.
After he arrived we talked for about an hour, he told me all about the school, its fees and expectations. I was very impressed, Mr walter was an intelligent but friendly man.
Although Ava was not attending the school Mr Walter insisted in letting her give him a tour of the house and to my surprise he seemed very interested in her, although Ava still won't tell me what happened up in her room i have a secret suspicion that she really liked Mr Walter.
We had Dinner, Mr Walter loved the Twins and was very excited when telling them they were accepted into his school.
Were your children accepted into the school? THANKFULLY, yes they were
Will your children attent? The twins will be very excited to start at their new school.
1st Oct 2008, 11:13 PM

I've added you as an EJ, Jessica.
3rd Oct 2008, 10:53 PM
:here: Everyone may participate in R2, since we only had nine entries. Later rounds will have eliminations, though, so take to heart the suggestions you received. Great job overall, guys. :)
I absolutely loved the witchy mom! Great creativity! I would've have also liked to see the teens interacting with the headmaster. - I really, really, liked the storyline and the pictures, they were both so matching and connected - Ooh they’re witches! Or at least the mother is…? Well anyways, the storyline was very nice and the pictures were very good.
Loved the storyline, especially Anya's attitude in the end! - I liked this one! Last but defiantly not least! I liked the story and comments, I do like Anya's
air too... *hirm* - Anya’s cute! Too bad she didn’t get accepted though. But I think you should’ve explained why she didn’t get accepted.
I was very impressed at how close the family really seemed! Especially since it was a single-parent household! - I liked the way that you changed the mood in the story from "yea, its OK" to "er...NO?!" at the end! Great Twist! I liked the pictures too as they were crisp and natural. - I wasn’t expecting the father to turn down the offer. That was a nice twist. Very good storyline!
Loved the picturess showing Darien interacting with the Headmaster. I would have also liked to see a few pictures of Hayley and her mom interacting with him also, however. - I liked the story of this family, it was well prepared and gave the characters some opaqueness. - You storyline was really good. I liked that she was an adopted child to a couple of vampires. And a wonderful reason why she couldn’t attend private school after all.
The pics were fine! I would've liked to see pics of the house tour, however. - I didn't really like the story, but the way you set out the pictures was great, For pic quality, you could use thumbnailed images to retain quality - Aww, that’s sad the two oldest didn’t get accepted, but at least Morgan did. Very nice storytelling! The only thing is that I think you should’ve explained why they didn’t get accepted.
I loved that the headmaster was up for playing some ball! It was nice to see a change of scenario that didn't portray the headmaster as uptight! Aside from the dinner and ball game however, I would've liked to see them just talking, or one of the kids showing the headmaster their interests. - I found the story lacking, but I did like the pictures, maybe more content included in the story next time? - Danielle and Steele, lol! Very creative. The storyline was good and straight to the point without sounding like it was rushed.
I was hoping to see the children talking to the headmaster rather than just Ava since she wasn't going to go to the school anyway, however, I did like the picture of Ava schmoozing him up - it really showed just how much he liked her ~.^ - I liked the story. and the links were good to, But it went "damp" in the middle, about the time of the boyfriend part, but you came out of it greatly. - The dialogue was great as well as the storyline. The kids are very pretty, too.
I would've liked to see the walls up for the shots, however I liked the fact that the children were present as the Headmaster was given a tour of the place! - I can't say that it was well put together, but I did like the first few pictures. - It would have been better if you had put the walls up. - The pictures of the kids weren’t headshots, but more of the waist-up. The storyline lacked creativity and was kind of rushed.
I thought it was great that Darcy was the first to talk with the headmaster and that she played the violin for him! That was nice! - (I had a crave to go "awwwwwww" when reading this!) I liked the picture content and the story too, nice - The storyline was very nice. The picture of the girl; however was not a headshot, but more of a waist-up shot. A couple of the pictures are kind of dark, but other than that, very nice job!

The greatest family ever is very involved in the community, so this round is about interacting with and giving back to your family's community.
Please include a brief paragraph describing the ways your family is involved in the community. Do you throw block parties or chair the home owners' association? Do you hold charity car washes in your neighborhood? You can think outside the box with this question.
In addition, please include the following.
One headshot of each adult and one of each toddler, infant, and pet, if applicable.
At least two images of family members (a few of you or the whole clan) participating in their community the way you described.
At least one picture of a public place (think "community lot" in TS2) where your family is involved somehow. The public place can be any size and style, but you, the contestant/player, must have built it yourself. For this task, you will be judged especially on how the public place shows off how great your family is. This is not meant to be as intense as a building contest.
This is a total of at least four images.
Round Two is due Tuesday, October 7 at 8PM EST.
4th Oct 2008, 2:28 AM
Wonderful job guys! I can't wait to see the creativity for the next round! Once again, really well done!
4th Oct 2008, 4:37 AM
sry if my explanation was off. i thought i made it clear that they didnt want to go because they would be leaving their friends.
im happy with my score though, as i did not have a lot of time. round 2 sounds like a bunch of fun but im not sure if i can continue, someone got sick at work and they need me to cover for her :( i hope to get it in
4th Oct 2008, 5:59 AM
When is the due date for this round? I might be needing glasses, but I can't seem to find it...
4th Oct 2008, 11:41 AM
No, you don't need glasses my dear. I can't find the due date AND I'm wearing glasses.
It must be my own creation? Oh dear, I can't build to save my life. Must take it as a challenge, I suppose.
4th Oct 2008, 3:31 PM
Sorry! I wasn't thinking last night when I posted it. Round Two is due Tuesday, October 7 at 8PM EST.
4th Oct 2008, 3:32 PM
Oooo, next round looks like fun! I already have a ton of ideas.
I assume that the due date is Tuesday like the other rounds..?
EDIT: Beat me to it Daisie!

Dyna always was the shy one in front of the camera - as evidenced by her very tentative smile!
Her brother shows her how it's done with his understated little corner-of-the-mouth smile.
Tom had caught sight of chocolate off-camera, and so was started to get distracted...
You're probably thinking she looks sweet, innocent and co-operative, right? Well...she was. For all of four seconds!
Dirk thought the camera was a toy and continually tried to bat at it - still, he looks adorable.
What Derek Does
Initially a dilapidated old building, it was converted into a Dojo by Derek a few years ago. While regular classes are held here, two days a week are set aside specially for the kids and teenagers of the area to come and learn martial arts at a special discounted price for the less affluent families. As well as learning martial arts a games centre if also in a separate room for the kids to muck around and relax, on the days that exhibitions are not on.
There is very little for the older generation in the neighbourhood to do, so Dyna came upon the idea of using part of Derek's building for dance and buffet days. It was a major hit - and it had the upside of allowing the kids and teens who use the Dojo to mix with older people, and learn respect. It's an added perk that Dyna makes the entire buffet!
A Family Affair
The Grey's, once a month, travel through the neighbourhood and homes just outside of the area, to collect items for garden sales. There are many things that go on sale, from ornaments to books and toys, which were once played with by Dirk and Anna. Even the toddlers help by showing just how fun all of their old items are! Anya wanted to keep her teddy chair, but realised how silly that was quite quickly when she remembered there was no more space in her room to fit it in. For the older people who would like to have come to the garden sale, but were unable to for medical reasons and the like, a special catalogue is set up for them to pick and choose the things they want so that they can be set aside and delivered by one of the Grey family at a later date.
Out and About - Away from the House
The Grey's are fortunate enough to own their own restaurant...well, Dyna's really! Called Fantasia it was once a mansion but was convertednot long after it was built. Instead of falling into disrepair, like many of the buildings round about, the family took it on. It not only enabled people to eat amazingly decadent food, but when it was well-established more people came to patronise the building. It didn't just bring in money to make them strike even, and then garner a profit, but brought business into the failing area. The other buildings are now shops and banks and such. Every three months special breakfasts, lunches and dinners are prepared for the community alone, who may not be able to afford the extravagence Fantasia hints at. The new faces to the restaurant are welcomed, and can pick anything off the menu - on the house.
Fantasia at night looks beautiful, and inside Dynan can be absolutely sure that the patrons are having a wonderful time: full of food and drink, and enjoying pleasant conversation with peple old and new. There's a lot of community spirit in the area...and it isn't hard to see why!
A very special event that takes place every year in the community, is something grand that's happened for almost four years now. There are so many people who do amazing and, on occasion, life-changing things. Too many of those people don't get the recognition they deserve and so, with the backing of the community, local paper and much-needed money, a vote goes around the small town every year to decide who should be commended. Of course lots of smaller prizes go out, but the one who is chosen within the community gets the chance to do something they've always wanted to do. As they Grey's are the family who set up the Foundation they, of course, do not get the chance to be voted for!
A little girl won the event the very first year of the Foundation conception and her only wish was to go to a park on the other side of the country, where an old pirate ship had been raised from the ocean depths many years before. She had an amazing day, playing on the new playground and exploring the ship - she even came dressed up for the occasion! The second year an old man was voted for and, ultimately, had the chance to travel far from his home and explore the ruins of an ancient civilisation that he had helped to excavate in his youth. Visiting the ruins again was something he had wanted to do for a long time but age and too few coins in his wallet had meant the longed-for trip was continually put off...until now!

I'd rather have full-sized images than collages. What if I allowed more than two pictures? Would that solve the problem?
5th Oct 2008, 4:18 PM
If you'd be able to accomodate that, it'd be great, thanks. :).
5th Oct 2008, 4:28 PM
Should I include any headshots of the elders as well?

Celebrating with the Community
Pia: First, it was the headmaster visitation (and thanks for the first place, judges), now it's all about the community. Okay...Where do I start? Oh, maybe I'll give you a background of our community.
Pleasantview has been quite a quaint little town for a very long time. In fact, there were like 531 residents during its founding years. As the years went by, it has opened its gates to people from other neighboring towns, like the unique and colorful Strangetown, and the medieval-esque Veronaville.
Enough of background, and more of the real thing.
Basically our family loves to make people happy, whether it could be a huge party for the entire town, or simply playing and enjoying life with them. This is what led me to the Path of Light, for anything that is for the good, is good!
If you are on a holiday, you would probably go on vacation or simply lounge at home. For us, it's the time to really set moments to really give back to the community.
Okay, this may seem to be an ordinary picture of a teenage boy playing with little children form the neighborhood. But for us, simply sharing the joy of being young (or young at heart) with these children makes a really big difference.
My heart practically swelled with pride when I saw Marvin with them. He was a shy kid, a little antisocial at times (this was practically the reason why he was not really "visible" during Headmaster Amin's visit).
Marvin: ...and our break has been very busy indeed. This was taken during one of the parties Mom was talking about. As you can see, it was a beach party.
The thought of a beach made me jump up and down and grin from ear to ear. I have always loved the beach. Its fine sand crawling to my feet, he crashing waves for a free shower, and the colorful sea glass and seashells bring beauty to the environment.
Oops, back to the story. So, stating Mom's words, we love celebrating with the community. That time, we invited almost the whole community (and some from Strangetown to a beach we rented for the whole 24 hours (a beach to yourselves for a whole day, who would pass that?)
The party itself was really not what I was expecting. No, not in a negative way, but I didn't expect Pleasantview's residents to be so pumped up and energetic. Perhaps the real climax of the party was the "synchronized" Hula Dance (oh well, you can't have everything I suppose).
A Cold, Blustery Day with the Community (Celebrating Part 2)
Martin: Hello there ladies and gentlemen! So, Pia and Marvin got the summer activities done. What about those cold wintery nights that will cause death by freezing when in swimsuits? No, we don't just sit at home sipping hot cocoa all night. Why not share it with the community, as they said?
Christmas season is one of the perfect times to get together with the family. Now I'm not talking about your storybook family with a mom, dad, two kids and a dog, but the entire Pleasantview family.
How they were able to wear tubes during the dead of winter, I don't know.
The Gustav family comes from a long line of performers, from my great-great grandfather (the most famous showman during his day), down to my lovely grandchildren. I used to be like Great Granddad Shawn as a youngin before going to med school. But those precious talent should not go to waste, as my father said the year before I entered the field of medicine.
Every other year, I plan, organize and host a Christmas Party for the community. Last year's party was a open concert where any resident can perform on stage (We only have pictures of us performing, I'll look for others).
Present and Next Generation Gustavs doing what they do best...commanding the stage.
Pleasantview Family Park
Mayee: Whew, talking about helping the communities was tiring, but yes, very fulfilling. Okay, we are not only involved in this lot, but we helped build it (both physical labor and financial aid, but mom took care of some of the labor for us).
It all started during a visit to Pleasantview Elementary for a play presentation. During one of our breaks, we saw a group of fourth graders who look really cranky with their legs itching to run around the school halls. I asked a teacher who passed by, "Why so?"
...and she said, "There is no place for them to play in. The playground was demolished"
THEY HAD NO F*****G PLAYGROUNDS! *Martin glares at her direction* Oops, sorry Grandpa.
I told this to my mom and she said to...
Pia: I said to her, "We should take initiative. Let's start looking for a lot, get a permit from the mayor, and start building the a playground."
Mayee: It took us 3 1/2 years to build it, but it was really worth it. Now the children of Pleasantview and other towns are smiling again.
First thing you see as you enter. The shady tree and peaceful atmosphere will be perfect for parents watching their kids play, or just simply taking a rest.
The playground. Very colorful, allowing children to be excited, but guarded with safety measures to relieve parents' worries.
For the grocery rush if you forgot to buy something in your shopping list.
5th Oct 2008, 4:47 PM
Yes, sorry. Basically headshots of family members who haven't had headshots yet.
5th Oct 2008, 8:16 PM
This may be a dumb question but in the judging comments is the comment under my familys name just mine or a general comment?
5th Oct 2008, 8:32 PM
Yes, comments below your name refer to your entry. :)
5th Oct 2008, 9:32 PM
Ok just wondering b/c it says
"Loved the pictures showing Darien interacting with the Headmaster. I would have also liked to see a few pictures of Hayley and her mom interacting with him also, however. - I can't say that it was well put together, but I did like the first few pictures. - It would have been better if you had put the walls up. - The pictures of the kids weren’t headshots, but more of the waist-up. The storyline lacked creativity and was kind of rushed."
The names are not right. Or im an idiot and only half of this is mine.
5th Oct 2008, 9:42 PM
Hm, let me check that out. It's my fault if the comments are mixed up, not yours.
EDIT: It appears that one judge switched the Viper and LaRue family data. I've fixed the comments, and I'm checking out the scores right now. I'm really sorry for the mix-up... I should have double-checked the names before posting.

The Lauren family is very involved in the community park, as one of Paradise Cove Community Park's founding families, they regularly do volunteer work such as picking up litter and maintaining the landscaping at the park. Every year since the park was founded, the Lauren family plants a new tree and celebrates by throwing a block party in the park. By planting a new tree every year, they show the neighborhood how they give back to the community and they do it in an eco friendly way, giving back to the environment too.
Here are just a few shots of this years event:
A few members of the family planting the new tree.

Great entries (and partial entries :D ), guys. I love how the backstories you gave your families are coming into play in this round.
6th Oct 2008, 6:41 PM
Sorry Daisie, i have to drop out. The hudson's crash everytime i load their stupid glitchy house. And i've got to stay at my friends house a couple of days and i have no sims. Sorry. I will keep watching though as i still have internet access, goodluck everyone.

[extract from The Middleground Trader]
Robotics Electronic Convention an Electrifying Success!
By Kenneth Harper
Middleground Community Centre is literally the centre of the community. Although small, anything can happen there, from birthday parties, weddings, art events or even pet shows. Yesterday, it hosted the annual Robotic and Electronics Convention, sponsered by Fairbanks. Ltd.
Stalls are held by any budding inventor, whatever age. The main aim is to get the community together and to recognise the talent among Middleground. Of course, the Fairbanks' display was the centre of attention. Dylan Fairbanks and his daughter Willow once again held a magnicant display, with all sorts of whizzing and whirring contraptions.
It seems that young Willow Fairbanks is certainly following in her father's footsteps, she probably had more gatherers than Mr. Fairbanks! Nevertheless, there was a record number of entries this year and heres hoping that we top last year's donation total.
As with every year, the annual Fairbanks Award for Excellence was chosen by Mr. Fairbanks. The award is given out to the most ingenious and creative invention at the show.
And the winner was a Miss Mindy Smith, for her excellent Solar-powered electronic car. Congratulations Miss Smith!
For details on the whole event, with an interview with Mindy and Mr. Fairbanks, visit our website at http://www.thetrader.sim/middleground

I love your story, Ferret! :)
All right, guys. As of right now, we have four entries in and four to go, with just under two hours left in the round. If you're online before the deadline and haven't posted (or completed) your entry, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know (by PM or posting in the thread) whether you'll be able to get your entry in by late tonight, or if you'll need even more time than that. I'll see how long the round needs to be extended once I start getting answers.

Headshot of Darien -
Headshot of Heather -
How is the LaRue family involved in their community, you ask? Well, Darien would love to tell you about Soul Wheat Vegan Bakery. It is the small bakery he owns and bakes everything for himself, using things like soymilk and egg replacer powder to get the job done in a manner that's totally respectful to animals and nature. But of course, Darien isn't the only one who works in the bakery. The whole family works together to make it run smoothly.
Here's the bakery from the outside; Darien is very proud of it.
Darien bakes a delicious no-cheese cheesecake to sell at his bakery.
Heather's really not much for cooking, so she just cleans up after her klutzy messmaking husband. Don't tell him, but she's secretly jealous of his cooking abilities; despite her tough exterior she wishes she could be more of a homemaker like he is.
Hayley helps out by answering the phones, although no one is sure if that's really a safe idea or not...
Despite his experience in cooking, Darien isn't very experienced with the cash register. He's learning, though, but he should really learn a little faster if he wants to keep up with the waves of eager customers visiting his trendy health- and environmentally-conscious establishment.

Round Two will close tomorrow at 3PM EST.
8th Oct 2008, 12:12 PM
Whaaaat? I just get home from school at 3, I'll have no time to do anything! Maybe if it were like... five? Or should I just drop out of the contest? T_T
8th Oct 2008, 9:47 PM
Well, the deadline was supposed to be 8PM yesterday night. Anything today is an extension. But anyway, yes, five is fine. Please try to get your entries in, guys! With one exception, no one contacted me about an extension, and there are still four no-shows.
8th Oct 2008, 10:13 PM
OK sweet, I'll edit my post and finish up my entry for this round. :3
9th Oct 2008, 12:48 AM
Thanks for finishing it up. :)
All right. I'm going to go ahead and close Round Two and PM the judges. We're down to five contestants, so there won't be eliminations after this round or the others. I'm disappointed that so many people couldn't/didn't continue in the contest, but I'm excited about the next two rounds, and I hope you guys have fun with them. Thanks for sticking around.
9th Oct 2008, 4:47 AM
Can't wait to see what the next round will be...:D
9th Oct 2008, 8:44 PM
Oh I'm soo entering the next round. Contests are getting my hyped up right now! :)
10th Oct 2008, 2:38 AM
I hope you can enter another cycle, JanePstar, if there is one. Unfortunately you would've had to have entered the contest originally to participate in the next round.
I'm going to go ahead and post Round Three, as I'm still waiting on scores. You may post your entries as soon as they're finished, unless you'd like to wait and see your comments from Round Two.
10th Oct 2008, 2:46 AM
Your family does a lot together and in the community. In Round 2, you started to show these aspects of the clan, so in this round, you will focus on an individual family member.
Choose one family member. You will complete the following task from the perspective of that person.
:here: How would you describe your family? How do you feel about belonging to your family? Is there something that even your family doesn't know about you?
:here: In addition to answers to the above questions, please include three to five images of a strong memory (positive or negative) that involves your family. Did they give you a special gift? Did they leave you behind when they packed for a trip? Did they thrill you by throwing you a surprise birthday party? Or did they genuinely forget your birthday one year? How did they make it up to you? Be creative.
This is a total of at least three images.
Round 3 - Bonus Task
:here: For a possible 5-point addition to your R3 score, include one or two pictures of a common room (family room, living room, or den – wherever everyone likes to hang out together) in your family's home. Judges will award you extra points according to how well the room reflects the family's overall personality.
This is a total of one or two images.
Round 3 is due Tuesday, October 14 at 8PM EST.
10th Oct 2008, 4:08 AM
That round sounds fun Daisie!
11th Oct 2008, 4:57 PM
Hello! 'Tis Pia 'ere. So you want to know more about one member, eh? Well, you have come to the right person (not that my father-in-law and my darling children have uninteresting lives but...yeah).
So you ask me about what I think about the Gustavs...Well, to start it off, we are one bright and colorful bunch.
We are very open to each other, making sure that each member feels loved and accepted. Of course, I know from experience that rejection hurts, and we should a foster a laid-back and open atmosphere in the house.
As for being part of my family, I wouldn't trade my family for anything. They give me so much joy, it seems like the sad moments melt away. This includes our love for partying (of course, we do know our limits)
Because of a side effect of the "disease" called witchiness, I began to associate people with colors:
Marvin "Toby": red due to his passion with a lot of things,
Mayee: yellow because of her jolliness and optimism,
Martin: green as he is a tranquil as a rain forest,
Me: white of course, for it symbolizes purity of the heart!
...and the overall Gustav color is the full light spectrum...
That leads me to the Facade, or my deepest secrets. Actually, I'm quite a science geek and will read up on the latest Science news over the papers or the Internet (hence, my obsession with the light spectrum, aka. The colors of the rainbow.
The Best Birthday Ever:
Actually, this only happened last week, the day I turned *gasp* the BIG FOUR-O. In other words, I'm getting "older". Because hey, 40 is the new 20.
Okay, it all started a few days before, when Marvin (from now on, please call him Toby as people always confuse him with Martin, my son) has been making making my life a living hell (nagging about work, the kids, you know the usual). Of course, it was my nature to make all happy and a spell did the trick.
Also, Marvin has not been cleaning his room this past few days and amidst all the stress, I found time to lecture him about his room.
(there is something unusual in this picture: hope you figure it out what it is. HINT: It's related to the main character if this entry)
Mayee had been going out late at night with some friends (I doubt that she's in a relationship though). She had been in a bad mood for several days as well and is taking it all out on Martin.
Little did I know that it was a plan all along...
Saturday morning: My birthday. The day goes as a usual Saturday night. Spring cleaning, movies, playground, recitals and all of your usual Saturday stuff. Actually, my heart sank in knowing that they forgot my milestone birthday.
5 PM: Mayee and Martin went to my room in white robes, blindfolded my eyes and brought me outside. We walked through the streets of Pleasantview, until we stopped somewhere. By the time I removed the blindfold, it was a great sight. Fluffy clouds on the walls, the starry ceiling, a shiny disco ball in the middle of it all.
SURRRRPRISSSEEEEEE!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
So the reason of their actions those past few days was to prep me up for my birthday. It was a very enchanting night. It seemed like time stopped at this very moment, not wanting to budge because it was so enjoyable.
Oh, I haven't told you about this guy, haven't I? This my new fiance, Kevin Wilkie. He is also a warlock (the male counterpart of a witch) and he was the nicest man I knew. We have been dating for 3 years and amidst all the dancing, he popped the question. In a nutshell, it was birthday and engagement party rolled into one. :)
...and I thought the party's over? No, Toby went to the mic and like his showman ways, sang the good ol' blues that lead to the people swingin' to the music.
Overall, my 40th is the best birthday ever, Thanks to the ever wonderful Gustavs.
Bonus: The Gustav Family Hangout Spot
This is our small but great living room. This room is not pretty big, but we still use it for engaging in conversation from heart-to-heart chats, your mindless chatter, and even political debates (Toby loves to engage in those with his friends).
12th Oct 2008, 3:20 AM
Love it, dude! :)
I'm sorry if I've seemed absent today and yesterday - I had to make a sort of last-minute trip this weekend to see my grandparents. Scores will go up tomorrow night, and the round schedule shouldn't be disturbed.
12th Oct 2008, 4:49 AM
Can we add pictures to the first part (the answers to the questions given)?
13th Oct 2008, 9:05 PM
Hiya! My name is Willow and I'm 9 years old. I live with my daddy (probably the best inventor EVER) and my little sister Wren, who is two.
I love being a part of my family. Daddy does everything for me, he cooks my dinners, he teaches me and buys me anything I need! Even though my little sister Wren can sometimes be a pain, she does make me laugh and is so much fun to play with.
Nobody knows, but I love to write stories and catch butterflies in the fields across the way from my house. I sometimes sit in the fields and think about all the fairies and animals that live there, then I go back home and write all about them. The fields are my special magical place, and I don't want anyone to spoil it!
If I had to describe my family, I would say that its nearly perfect. Not entirely, because there is one person missing. My mummy.
This is me two years ago, just after Wren was born. She hadn't be bought back from the hospital yet, it was just me and daddy.
My mummy died after Wren was born. I was sad and cried and cried for ages but not anymore, now I just look at photos of her and think about what it would be like if she was alive. Anyways, at her funeral everybody showed up. My grandmother, my grandad, my other grandmother and grandad, and all these aunts and uncles that I hadn't seen since I was a baby. I didn't like that day, everyone kept giving me hugs when I wanted to be left alone and calling me brave when I didn't feel brave at all.
And then Wren was bought home the next day. Daddy adored her, and I couldn't see why. She was the reason that Mummy died and couldn't be with me right now.
I hated her. I wanted her to go away. I wanted to trade her for Mummy. Mummy was sweet and kind and never shouted. Wren just cried and stank and wanted Daddy all the time.
Daddy found me alone in the sitting room crying. I was so cross, it was so unfair. I didn't want a sister, I wanted my Mummy back.
Daddy told me that it was okay to cry, and that it wasn't Wrens fault that Mummy had died. He told me that poor baby Wren would never know her Mummy, and was wondering why her beautiful big sister was being so nasty to her. He said that if we got rid of Wren, who would look after her? She would be all alone, and scared. And anyway, she needed a big sister to tell her all about her Mummy and how gentle and kind and wonderful she was.
I thought about what Daddy said and decided that maybe Wren wasn't so bad after all, and that she needed Daddy and me to look after her. It turned out that Wren really did like me, she laughed and smiled when I played with her, and she made me laugh too. Even though I had lost my Mummy, I had gained the most adorable little sister in the world!
P.S My photobucket account ran out, and I posted some of my other entries on there. It'll be back up on the 18th, but if anyone wants to see the pictures please PM me and I can send them to you.
13th Oct 2008, 9:41 PM
Can we add pictures to the first part (the answers to the questions given)? You may if it helps you tell your story or explain the family member, but they will not be judged.
Great entry, Ferret.
Scores/comments will be up within the hour, guys. Sorry for the delay.
13th Oct 2008, 10:01 PM
I really liked the robotics idea, it was very creative. Very nice floorplan! - I really like the closeness between the daughter and her father, and I thought the storyline was really impressive! A robotics convention center -- really creative! - I like all the inventions and stuff.
I liked the whole idea of having a party for the entire neighborhood. The storyline was very good. - I liked that they gave back to the community by building a playground, that was really sweet of them. A photograph of them all together would have been nice! - I really enjoyed how they got really invovled with the community.
I liked the idea of having a community-like center for everyone, but I would’ve liked to have seen more of the place like maybe a floorplan of it or something. - It was nice seeing them all doing their own thing and the family gave back to the community in such a great way, setting up that really nice foundation and all! I loved that their was a photograph of the family members doing something together! That was a nice addition! - I think its great that they have places for the elders. They are always neglected.
A block party to help clean up the community parks…very clever. Great job! - It was nice to see them volunteer and give back to the community in an eco-friendly manner, however I wasn't feeling the closeness between the family members. Also an over-all view of the place they planted the tree in, would've been nice. - Block parties are a great way to meet your neighbors but it seemed there weren't many sims there.
Nice storyline, but I would have liked to see more of the bakery and maybe more interaction between the family instead of just one shot per family member. - I really liked the story for this one and it was nice to see how they all had their own little part in the bakery! However I would've liked to see a shot of the family in the bakery all together. - It seemed a tad bit rushed but I did like how they got their daughter involed.
:here: Great job, everyone. Remember that Round Three is due tomorrow at 8PM EST.
13th Oct 2008, 10:06 PM
:here: Ferret, I can't check the accuracy of the comment about your headshots since I can't see your pictures. You should've had headshots for Wren and Dylan only, according to the round instructions.
Yep, I only had pictures of Wren and Dylan. Here they are:
13th Oct 2008, 10:11 PM
Okay. I'll talk to that judge and make sure she didn't deduct points.
Sorry about that. :)

Okay. I'll talk to that judge and make sure she didn't deduct points.
Sorry about that. :)
No problem! I really should use another image hoster other than Photobucket, the bandwith keeps running out.

Meetings of the Unexpected Kind
I don't even know why I decided to take a weekend trip into the woods outside of the city, on that day several years ago now. I get terrible hayfever, and it was that kind of year - maybe I was just a glutton for punishment? In any case, I tossed on my boots and a warm sweater in case the weather turned, jumped into my old truck and drove the two hour trip early one morning. I was tired by the time I got there, having gotten up at 3am but decided to stay awake and check out the area. I got a room at the nearest log hotel and a few hours later stumbled, hungry and weary, into an inn. It was quite small but not too packed, and the air was fresh, clean and faintly pine scented from the forest beyond the front door. I didn't get a good look at the people there in those first few minutes...I admit, my chocolate addiction got the better of me and I made my way straight to the vending machines.
Munching on some cookie delight, my hunger was sated for the time being. The caramel piece from the free chocolates on the bar also helped! I let the conversation of the strangers soothe me and my eyes eventually started to droop. Something about absently listening to varieties of accents in crowds makes me sleepy. That drowsiness was soon interrupted...
By a tiger cub! Well, I'm only half joking... a little toddler in the cutest face paint was trying to get my attention, bouncing around and tugging at my jeans insistently. I didn't see any kind of mother figure around and, concerned that she might have crawled in from outside, I picked her up and started to scan the bar. It was strange though, I thought at the time, there looked to be some fleeting recognition in the little girl's eyes.
"Impossible," I remember muttering to myself. "Dyna, you need to get yourself into bed!"
From across the room the words: tyke and bundle of trouble filtered over. I put two and two together and figured the voices were probably talking about the toddler, so I walked on over.
I'll tell you this, my heart had never thudded so fast when that man turned around. I almost dropped the kid! I stopped playing with the adorable attention-seeker and studied the black-haired gentlemen before before. He wore a matching expression of pure, uninhibited shock.
"What the he-?!" the man caught himself before continuing with his curse, on account of the little girl. He gently took her from me and handed her to the younger man behind him; Tom, as I later discovered. I could tell he was resisting the child-like urge to poke me, to determine if he was actually imagining things... I was trying to keep from doing the exact same thing.
We found a quiet, out of the way area in the log hotel and, in the dim light, began to talk. You see, we had been adopted at birth. Neither of us know who our birth parents were. He hadn't even been told there was a sibling, whereas my adoptive family had mentioned once that there had been. They had explained that they had only wanted one child, and so I was adopted by them - Derek was taken in by a lovely couple a few months later, who had no idea of my existence. We were completely identical...his little girl, Anya, had made the simple mistake of not being able to tell us apart!
By that time my tiredness had been pushed firmly aside and we spent the best part of that day and the next just talking. We had so many years to catch up on. By a weird twist we had almost met a couple of times before, but something always intervened to stop us from seeing each other. But not this time: I had a brother, a sibling I could talk to and ask advice from, and help him when he needed it. It was something I had longed for since I was a little girl, but my adoptive parents never expanded on their little family. And not only had I found a twin in one day, but also a brother-in-law and a neice! It was a lot to take in...it still is, thinking back on it. But one thing is for sure, I'm glad I decided to take that impromptu trip to the forest. It changed my life, for the better!
Dyna, on the Family
So, how would I describe this punch of lovable people I live with? Crazy, definitely and completely hectic with their schedule. Before I moved in with them, my life was so quiet, too quiet really. I kept to myself for the most part, content with my tiny role in the world. And then I found my brother...I'd never felt so welcomed by anyone before, and yet despite their surprise at my appearance in their contented lives, they accepted me straight away. Sure, Derek was my brother, but that didn't necessarily mean he had to like me or welcome me; but he did. They genuinely like people, and to help people - whether they realise at the time that they need that help or not. They've had an amazing impact on my life, each and every one of them. They make me grin every day.
The Family Room
This is our informal family "muck about in your scruffs" type of room. It's a mosh mash of some of the kids' toys, and the adult things. The TV is an old black and white, and just shows the regular TV channels - it doesn't even pick up channel 5! The kids love the room too, with its bright and colourfully cheery atmosphere. It's the best place to relax with a cup of hot chocolate and a book at night.
14th Oct 2008, 6:53 AM
Hello there, my name is Ward. Hm, how would I describe my family?.... Well my mom and dad help me lots, mom is always helping me with homework, and dad is teaching me all about gardening. He says plants are very important to our environment. And I believe him too! Some of the boys I know don't like girls, but Maria is a nice sister, she likes me to play games with her, like peek a boo, and sometimes mom or dad read stories to us. She is the only girl I like, besides my mom, cause I like her too. Except when she pinches my cheeks and calls me her little "cutie patootie", how embarrassing! But I can't imagine having any other family than mine! I just hope that they will let me keep the dog I saw outside late one night. He was so cool, even had glowing eyes, but my mom and dad don't know about him yet... don't tell OK?
My best-est memory ever:
My mom and dad took me on a trip one summer, it was before Maria was born... I spent forever packing up all my beach shovels and water tubes, they barely fit in my suitcase!
I spent everyday building sandcastles on the beach. Mom and dad watched me by the water though.
Mom even taught me how to swim, the waves were a little scary, but with her by my side I wasn't afraid anymore.
Round 3 - Bonus Task
15th Oct 2008, 2:55 AM
Great job, you two. :)
Hmm. The deadline was an hour ago, and I'm still missing one entry. Piyokochanxoxo hasn't been online since yesterday morning, but I guess I'll give it another hour or so before I close the round. I hope we don't lose another contestant before the final round.
15th Oct 2008, 7:16 PM
Great entries you guys! :D
15th Oct 2008, 8:56 PM
Wait, can I still post mine? My internet was down yesterday. D: I'm sorry.
15th Oct 2008, 9:46 PM
If your entry is prepared but not posted, you have a half hour to get it in. Otherwise, or if it's still missing by 4:15, I'm going to have to close the round. I didn't close it last night only because the site wasn't loading for me.
EDIT: Okay, Round Three is closed, and I'm going to PM the judges shortly. Good luck, everybody. :)
16th Oct 2008, 12:02 AM
Awww, poo. Oh well. D:

'Hello'..... Echo.... 'is anybody there?'
Just wondering what is going on here.
17th Oct 2008, 10:06 PM
I loved the spontaneous way she found her brother. - Great creativity. I wish more of the family had been featured in the memory, but I love the background you've added to their story. - awwwww! Great, great, twist! I find this really a nice entry - well done! - The memory pictures were good and very creative with the two strangers reuniting as brother and sister. Very good job!
I loved everything about this family, they seemed original and very close. For the bonus round, I think their living space could have showed a little more personality since the family themselves seem so full of personality! - The memory idea could have been more creative, but your pictures are action-packed and interesting. I like how colorful the bonus room is - definitely reflects the family. - I liked the way you showed the mind of Pia, And also the hidden backgrounds inside too. I enjoyed reading this! - Very colorful pictures! The storyline was really good and I got a good sense of who they were. They seem like a loving family.
It was nice to see how they were before the birth of Maria. Aside from the fun time with his teaching how to swim, I was wondering what his father taught him on that vacation or if they spent any time together doing something. - Ward comes off authentically childlike and likeable. Although every kid has a vacation memory, you did well picking out the bits that a little boy would remember fondly. Nice job. - Liked the way you showed the world through his eyes, but I felt it lacking in Written Content - but the pictures were really nice! - The storyline was cute. Although I wish you had showed a picture of the new baby. Very nice job!
From the storyline and throughout the pictures of this entry, you really understood what made this family count on each other for support and love. - I love the way Wren's personality showed through in her interview. Very sweet storyline, and great job overall. - I liked this one, It was almost moving and I really felt attached to the character. Well done! - The storyline was very sweet. Great job!
:here: CiaoAlora... has it really been that long? I only received the last set of Round Three scores late last night, and you will have the normal amount of time to complete Round Four. Not to worry. :)
17th Oct 2008, 10:11 PM
Oh, I was just playing around. I saw that no one had posted anything in the thread for two days. ;) I wasn't actually worried.
17th Oct 2008, 10:11 PM
Thanks Daisie, and the judges. :).
17th Oct 2008, 10:15 PM
By now, your family is known far and wide as one of the greatest. It's a busy job, and sometimes, your family needs to take a break from other people and spend a whole day doing something special together.
In this round, your entire family will spend a day together for the first time in a while. Planned or unplanned, it can be a holiday or any old weekend, but you must do something special and different from your normal routine. You could put on a play, or take a trip, or bake cookies, or anything really. Be creative! In addition to three or more images of the day, please include a thorough (not necessarily long) description of what happened and why. Each family member (aged child through elder) must participate in the storytelling. This is a great way to show off their personalities.
:here: Round Four will be due Tuesday, October 21 at 8PM EST. I'd love to have all the entries a day or so earlier than that, though, if possible. Just get them in as soon as you can. :)

Surprises and Celebrations!
A couple of days ago it was Anya's birthday - no longer the cute little toddler in the tiger face paint that Dyna remembered! She had been enjoying teenagerhood, by celebrating and staying in bed a little longer than usual. Unfortunately they hadn't been able to do anything spectacular for her birthday, due to her dad's having to work. Still, they cherised the few short hours they'd had together all the same. That morning, on a summer's day like any other, Anya woke up for an extended lie in. She didn't notice anything unusual, and she didn't spot the man outside her window just walking along the path...
But, as she got dressed, her attention was taken by the chattering of many voices outside. Stepping outside her room and peering tiredly around the doorway, she spotted the entire family clustered around the entrance lobby. Granted, Anna and Dirk were more interested in playing, but everyone else was curious about what a congregation were doing on the front porch. Tom came to a stand beside his eldest daughter and scanned the faces - they were all familiar: People who came to the restaurant on the special days, a couple of older folk who danced at the club...they were all grinning like people with a particularly bubbling secret.
As it turned out, they did have a secret. After all the times the Grey family had helped the community, they were getting something pretty great in return. The community had banded together to say thank you: Starting with a celebratory buffet. It was the reason someone had been in the garden so early that morning - preparing food, tables, chairs and colourful balloons. There was turkey and sausages, salads and fruit bowls and gelatin. Anna and Dirk liked the gelatin the best.
Anna: I have a huuuuuge sweet tooth!
Dirk: Mine's bigger, so there!
For all their attempts at trying to outdo each other so loudly, they're still good as gold.
After sating their appetites, the neighbours told the Grey's that there was something else in store for them. All they needed to do was get into their car and drive to the townhall. That in itself was unusual...it was a Sunday, and everyone was aware that the townhall was closed on that particular day of the week. Still, they did as instructed as curiousity prompted them to do.
Tom: In my professional opinion, our neighbours are very sneaky.
He was teasing of course!
When they parked in front of the townhall they spotted a crowd, and more balloons - and the mayor was at the podium. He smiled warmly when he spotted the bewildered family... And were quickly embarrassed as realisation hit them. The community were giving what they could back to the Grey family, in the form of a commemoration of all the hard work they had done for the people of the town over the years. All of them were getting something, right down to three-year-old Toby. And it didn't end there, either.
They had put together for a day trip to a new theme park that had opened up on the outskirts of the big city.
The first stop, on Anna and Toby's adporable insistence, was the Gingerbread House, for obvious reasons! Such a sweet-toothed person as Anya and, in all honesty, Dyna too, could not possibly resist this place! The House was full to the brim of gingerbread men, boiled sweets, fudge and toffee, chocolate and candy floss of various colours. After that there were biscuits and cookies, fairy cakes and Victoria sponges, shortbread and marshmallows! Toby's eyes remained big the entire way through the exploration, while Dyna showed how full they would all feel if they ate everything at once!
A little later on, as it got darker, Anya took adventurous little Dirk to the haunted house. This particular "ride" stayed open until the evening, to make it even more atmospheric. The eight-year-old maintained that he wasn't scared in the slightest! It took them through a wood at first until, abruptly they found themselves inside the haunted house itself.
Dirk became a little bit afraid when he felt a gentle scraping on his back, and he span around rapidly! The trees, its eyes glowing a fiery orange in the darkness had moved- at the same time his big sister to try and make him jump, unfortunately something had brushed across her bare arm and the haunted house became an area of screams! They laughed about it later on, and a snapshot had been taken of them so they could remember the moment forever.
While the kids enjoyed their time at the park, Derek and Tom had a bit of much-needed "them time". They had a romantic dinner at the Garden View Restaurant in the evening. It was nice, for once, to not need to run Fantasia or go to work. It was relaxing; the food and drink was a delight, and the in-house photographer took a picture of them, too.
While the rest of the family had their fun, Dyna took a wander into the Medieval Realm - a trip back into what life was like a few centuries before. As someone who loved history, it was a nice treat. Unfortunately she wasn't dressed for the part - but one of the handsome young men who worked there was. She thought he looked really quite dashing in his knights uniform. In face, they talked for quite a while...
She found out his name, and he gave her his phone number! Dyna couldn't help swooning as she left...
It was long past the kids' sleep time when they arrived back at the townhall to pick up their car - a special bus had been arranged to drive them to and from the Theme Park. They had a bit of a relax on the steps first, and had a long and excitable chat about what they'd each been doing all day - though the different members of the Grey family had spent some of the time on the rides apart, they had still been on many together as well, and they recounted tales of nauseas rollercoaster rides and heart-stopping waltzers.
Before getting into the car, Tom and Derek took a good look at their family and then each other, grinning as they held hands. They had to admit, they still had the best family ever!
...Even if the kids did decide they needed to use the toilet before going home.

Christmas with the Gustavs
Toby: *Tis' the Season to be Jolly, falalalalalalalala* Oh hi there, Merry Chistmas to you, my friend. It's only October, but it's snowing as if it's in December. Being the first day of Winter, it calls for a very special weekend that if not like any other.
Pleasantview is known for its very slippery roads (drivers, beware!). It's even more so during the winter. Cars have been left in driveways and garages and many, if not all residents skate on the icy roads instead of simply walking or driving (which leads us to consistent First Place wins in the inter-hood Ice Skating Competition.)
Marvin: Winter is my second favorite season (my fave is Summer of course, beach season!). A very big contrast in the atmosphere, but you can do a lot during the Winter, like building big, sturdy snowmen and hot, firey devils...
...KIDDING! They look more like airy, ethereal snow angels that melt away after a half on an hour. Mom really loves the Snow Angels to the point of attempting to take the angel with her. Must be on a reagent high again.
Pia: MARVIN FIFI TRIXIBELLE GUSTAV!
Marvin: UGH! Dad's silly naming ideas. Good thing they have gone their separate ways.
Mayee: and when hands are getting cold and bodies shivering, we head inside for a cup and a little song from everyone. Who cares if you sing off-key? It's more entertaining that way. *lalalalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!*
Toby: While I was buying a cuppa, I saw the barista's tired eyes and dark circles. She must've been working there all day long without any break. I graciously offered to help her and take over barista duties for at a couple of hours.
However, only the four of us were there...*sigh* I got 32 simoleons, though. A little extra for some food to eat.
Mayee: As soon as we got home, we started setting up our Christmas decorations. The lights are effin' hard to set up. We had to step on a very high table just to reach the top and move some furniture around.
Pia: ...and don't forget to turn the lights off. You know what could happen.
Mayee: Yes mom.
Pia: ...and what's better than Christmas shopping? BARGAIN CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! Yes, we have been hunting bazaars for gifts and decorations. And did you know that the tree costs only a hundred?
Toby: Make sure it passed Sim Safety Council standards, though, or else...
Toby: Looks like somebody forgot to turn off the lights. I smell really bad smoke from the basement.
Marvin: What, grandpa? Smoke?
Pia: Maybe it's coming from...Oh dear! *whole family runs upstairs*
*fireman, aka. Kevin is at the scene*
Kevin: *background* All taken care of, Sirs and Mesdames.
Toby: Thank you, Mr Wilkie, for saving everything.
Pia: Yeah, I was supposed to use Exflammo if it wasn't for you.
Marvin: Since everything's finally okay, maybe we can treat ourselves with com hot cocoa from the finest beans and the purest sugar and...
Mayee: Okay, I get your point. Just stop yakking and make the chocolate.
Marvin: Yes, Miss.
Pia: Okay, so fire's out, decorating's done and winter fun is up...So how else can we conclude this uh, joyous night with a nice little feast. Main course: Mama Gustav's finest Holiday Roast.
Toby: *sniffs* Oh Rosetta, why have you left me so soon?
Mayee: About Granny Rosie, she's a really good cook. In fact, she created a five course dinner recipe for Mom and Dad's wedding 10 years ago. From what I remember, Marvin and I were 6 when they got married and it was a really colorful celebration. but 5 years later, the marriage went POOF just like how mom lets dirt disappear from the kitchen.
Pia: Mayee, this day's supposed to be a wonderful event. Please don't make me remember something about your father...
Mayee: Shh...mom still holds a little grudge on Dad.
Marvin: Oh, and my friends say that Holiday Roast makes you fat...
Pia: Me, Pia Gustav the Infallibly Good Witch, fat? It can't be! It's against the Common Witches' code. Fatness increases the chance of a spell backfiring. *chants Corpus Athleicus* Much better.

Daisie, I don't know if I'll be able to get my entry in. I've got some revision classes after school and have no idea if I'll have enough time to play my game. I feel awful because soooo many people have had to drop out for various reasons and I was really enjoying it. I will try and get my entry in before Tuesday, but I doubt that I'll be able to. Oh, and you don't have to extend the deadline for me, its not fair on the other contestants who want to see who won! Again, my apologies.
19th Oct 2008, 8:13 PM
Ah well, that's too bad. I really hope you can manage to get your entry in, but if not, I understand how real life is - so no hard feelings.
^ Great entries, you two.

I loved the family togetherness in this round! The ending had me laughing! - Sounds like the family had a good time besides the fire happening. Good job! - Great memory! And definitely a story they'll tell for a long time. Nice job overall.
I felt like they were a family that enjoyed the holidays together! I loved how they went to the tree farm together, lovely creativity! - I like the dialogue between all the family members. And I thought my family was the only one who put up their tree on thanksgiving. Great job! - I love Maria's comments. So cute! Nice job.
It seemed like a nice day for the family! - That’s great the community had did that for them, as they deserved it. Very nice job! - I wish the family had spent more time all together as a group. Still, nice creativity. Good job.
