We've been hearing reviews from "The Big Sims Sites," its time to hear it from the actual average player.

First things first, is that I will answer the questions that I was asked:

How good are the hairs and clothes?
The hairs and clothes were about 80% great, on both. A lot of the clothes, were really nice. There aren't that many full outfits, but there are tons of shoes, accessories, pants, and shirts to choose from. Male sims have 17 hairs to choose from, and females have 22. The hairs were great. Styles for all races, and they just look really good. Some were a little tacky, like the frizzy female hair, and the mullet.

I do have images of a few hair styles, and some clothes, and I will post them. ;-)

Can you make wooden pants?
Yes, you can make wooden pants :-D. You can apply any pattern, metal, carpet, fur, wood, stone to shirts, jeans, shoes, shoe laces, any clothing/accessory can have any pattern or color.

Does a blue sim, and a red sim, make a purple baby?
No, color combining doesn't exist in The Sims 3. This goes with all the skintones. A red sim, and a blue sim, will either have a blue baby, or a red baby. Same with pink and green, or white and brown.

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww73/sims2king287sims3demo/P1010108.jpg

Is the new CAS, easy to use?
Yes, I found it very, very user friendly. You can easily find where everything is located, everything is presented in nice colors, and the icons are big, and easily show what it leads to. Even some of the people that were watching caught some things I that I slipped over, which was the whole Favorites section.

I have pictures of all the modifiers to the face, CAST, and other things.

Is it set up like TS2 CAS?
In most ways, yes, in other ways, no. You still have your basic layout, where the skintone, weight, and name are chosen. Then, you go to the construction of the face. Then clothing, and then traits/LTW/favorites. But, with TS3, you can do deeper into the facial construction. You can click on the lips, and adjust the lower lip height, thickness, and width. Same with nearly every part of the face. They added a much more advanced eye editor, so making Asian sims is very easy. A few clicks and I had a great Asian sim.

I have many, MANY images of different sims, and the CAS tool.

Are there many different skintone colors?
Yes, there are 6. Blue, green, brown, tan, white and red.

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww73/sims2king287sims3demo/P1010113.jpg

What are all of the favorites?
I took pictures of the food, and colors, which are shown by icon, and have no text. I will post these images soon. With music, there's country, latin, classical, kids, pop, rock, and custom.

Here are some cool things I learned while playing:
- Eyelashes are separated, so they are individual lashes now, and they look really nice.
- Traits are broken into sub-categories: Mental, Physical, Social and Lifestyle
- Voices can really go from deep, to high pitched. There are three types of voice styles.
- There are 17 hairs for men, 22 hairs for women. There are also tons of hair accessories.
- CAST pattern categories are: Fabrics, Leathers and Fur, Carpeting and Rugs, Abstract, Geometric, Themed, Wood, Metals, Weave and Wicker, Paint, Tiles and Mosaics, Plastics and Rubber, Rock and Stone, Masonry, and Miscellaneous.
- You can pick separate hairs for different outfits.
- The clothing categories are: Everyday, formal, sleepwear, swimming and exercise.
- In CAST, you can pick your shoelace color.
- You can set your eyebrows to match your base hair color.
- Each trait shows you a brief preview of how that sim will act.
- Fat sims can get really huge. You can see how big they are in images, but once you see it in game, they really do get big.

My rating:
Overall improvement from TS2: 10
Amount of detail that can be made into your sims: 9.5
Overall layout: 8
CAST: 10
Overall CAS: 9.5

I found it to be very entertaining. There were many "wow moments." The fact that you can really go in, and really detail your sims' faces, is really amazing. The CAST tool was just overwhelming. I heard it was big, and it really is big. Its very easy to use, and its very functional. You can edit nearly everything in CAS to your personal likings. It was really, and truly amazing. EA's sims, looked nothing like mine. You can really make your sims unique, and you can give them your personal touch.

New, 5/22/09 Information! :-D

- You can no longer make bald sims, but they can be balding.
- You can change your child's skintone in CAS to make it look blended with the parents *Only with whites, tans and browns*
- There are two options for freckles and beauty marks. The first one for freckles is full face, the second is around the nose and eyes. For beauty marks, there's one by the mouth and one by the eye.
- Clothes are no longer "glued" to your sims. They are all 3D.
- This demo lasts until mid-June, just so you know, it wasn't a one day thing.
- Your sims' eyes can be any color. Red, yellow, bright green, etc.
- Sims will pass on their fat/skinny "gene" to their child. It will start to show at the child age, and then progress as they get older.
- Old people don't have as big as a hunch, and can have hair that isn't gray.

You can no longer make bald sims, but they can be balding. No Aang? Oh well, would have needed CC for that anyway. And 'tis less fun without adjustable heights.

You can change your child's skintone in CAS to make it look blended with the parents *Only with whites, tans and browns*But you have to manually do that in CAS, right? Just mixing their genetics (rolling pacifier) won't blend skin tones, but will only be one or the other?

Nope, you have to do it manually. And it doesn't work with the exotic skintones, unless you count a *color* + white/tan/brown = lighter/darker shade.

Put putting colors together, and having an "in between" color, like purple, or orange, doesn't happen.

Wow thanks for all this info!
Couple of questions though

CAS Question:
How exactly does the create a twin work? Does it work on fraternal twins?

About the event:
Is it actually the sims 3 or is the cd just a demo?

About the pictures:
I guess this is a weird question but I was curious, were just taking all those pictures while you played?

sims3king, thanks for taking all these pictures and posting a review!

Question: So it's possible to change skintones for sims anytime now, i.e. in the middle of gameplay? E.g. if a dark brown skintoned baby is born to dark brown father and fair-skinned mother, you can go into CAS and manually change the baby's skintone to medium brown after it's born?

Wow, nice work! Thanks!

My one and only question is if they are going to release this demo to the public?

Hey a friend of mine told them that no matter how much she tried to make a sim look like her or a friend, they would always look as if they were both twins. Even the guy looked like the male version of their twin.

sims3king
23rd May 2009, 12:47 AM
The Create a Twin feature is simple. You just click on it, and it duplicates the sim you just made, and it's only in CAS.

It's just a demo, and you can't take it home. You play it at the Apple Store.

Yes, I took all those images as I was playing. With my camera, and PrntScrn.

No, you can't change the skintone in the game, only on CAS.

The Demo is open to the public. You can go to any Apple Store and play it there.

I hear the CAS version up for use at Apple stores is a buggy, incomplete version and missing a whole section of clothes and customization options.

(Not really.)

Anyway, what sucks about CAS is that heads cannot be made small enough for thin bodies, the eyes are a bit creepy, and there is no customization to make eyebrows thick or thin. You have to just go change their default shape.

No eyebrow thickness slider? Damn!

If things are supposed to be so much more customizable in TS3, why have they cut out certain aspects of CAS that were available in TS2?

Oh well, I'm too excited for the game release right now to be bothered much by small limitations.

The paring down of genetics, proper genetics like in TS2, is a huge disappointment. I'd have to say that in itself is sheer laziness.

From what I can tell:

Weird skintones (blue, red, etc.) do no blend across spectrums (creating purple or a regular-tone/blue mix). Can you have shades of blue and would a child with a light blue and dark blue parent possibly come out medium blue?

I have heard that born ingame sims with one dark parent and one light parents can be inbetween shades - is this correct?

Also:
How are eye and hair colors passed along genetically?

Yes, this is what I want to know, as well. It makes sense that the different color groups can't combine with one another, but it would be just stupid not to be able to produce medium-shaded offspring from a light and dark-shaded couple of the same hue.

But then, I've heard other people say that they didn't get in-between skintones. At least, it seemed like what they were saying and it seemed like they were talking about regular skintones, but maybe I misunderstood.

At least, it seemed like what they were saying and it seemed like they were talking about regular skintones, but maybe I misunderstood.

Well, there are three types of "regular" skintones. Light, tan, and dark, if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps the people who got in-between skintones had two different shades of tan, let's say, and the people who didn't paired a shade of tan with a shade of dark. I hope that's the case, so we'd at least get a little realism with inter-hue blending, although it'd be nice to be able to blend between light, tan, and dark, as well.

Was there any wedding dresses? I really hope so.

Can you still adjust arms and legs separately? I didn't seem to find any sliders that might indicate that, but maybe I missed it?

Nope, you can't.
