View Full Version : Aging a child through birthday?

I had a child sim throw a birthday party for herself. The guests came on time, and everybody was having a blast. But when it came time to blow out the candles, the child sim was not on the list of candle-blower candidates!

I am playing with aging and story turned off, but that didn't prevent my toddler and YA sim to age through birthdays. So what gives? What are the requirements for a sim to age through birthday?

If you have aging turned off, you'll need to turn aging on back for one day before you can use the cake to age up the same sim again.

I've tried turning aging back on, but that did not fix the problem. And in any case, when I click on "Blow Out Candles", the child I want to age is the only one not showing up on the list. Everyone else, including guests, can be perform this action.

I don't know what would cause this, but I had this happen several times before. A couple Sim days later, the child showed up on the list. It seems to be a problem that eventually fixes itself.

Yeah, I've had this problem. It must be a glitch.

Same here...bought the birthday cake and my child wasn't on the list to blow out the candles..only the parents...
I never tried again..but it's probably a glitch.

I opened up the save file in Tiger's Save Game Editor, and found that the child had a value "AgingState/DayPassedSinceLastTransition=false". I changed it to true, and the child was able to age up properly.

So it seems that at least one day needs to pass before a sim can age up again, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that when aging is turned off, the game doesn't set this value properly. To get around this, aside from editing the save file, is probably just to turn on aging for one day.

Not exactly sure if this should be considered a bug or an annoying design quirk.
