I really enjoyed the new Star Trek movie, and I plan on buying it when it comes available on itunes or dvd. Loved the lil quirky flirtings with Kirk and Uhura, kind of a little love triangle thing going on with her, Kirk, and Spock. It was funny when I was watching the movie and she said to Spock "I can give you anything you want" or something like that, this girl in the audience near me said, "She's offering him sex"

It was soooooo cool to see Leonard Nimoy in that film reprising his famous role of Spock once again. That was something that I saw coming though, a friend of mine who is a major Trekkie/Trekker already knew the basic story line of the movie before it was released. And he told me Leonard Nimoy would be in there, and mind melding with Kirk.

Only thing I didn't like about it was the Romulans. They looked NOTHING like the Romulans I'm used to, no cranial ridges, no shoulder pads, no grey square patterned outfits, just those God awful tattoos. Also the ending left some questions unanswered and I didn't like that. The big major question looming in my mind was, Why the heck is Vulcan destroyed! we KNOW there IS a Vulcan in the future from Kirk's time because Vulcan is there in TNG, DS9, and VOY. So that made absolutely no sense at all, unless they are planning on making a sequel and tie up those loose ends.

So what are your thoughts on the latest Star Trek movie? :cylon:

I loved it, I won't call myself a Trekkie but I do watch TNG and V as well as the original whenever I can.

I looked at the movie as a stand-alone and not something thats linked to the series and it's spin-offs so I didn't question much, I was bummed that there were no Klingons though...I mean not even one but I did enjoy everything else.

A note about what you felt was left open: I thought that the whole thign implied that this was the beginning of a completley alternate timeline, one which is different from Shatner/Nimoy Timeline, which makes it possible for Spock Prime to exist. (there is also a sequel rumored for 2011)

As a Spork shipper, I'd also like to not how sad it is that it doesnt seem like there is any way for Him to get back to his own reality.

Also, there was a tribble on Soctty's Desk.

I didn't see the movie because I didn't think it would be good, instead it might be three or four hours of robots and lasers. Instead of a movie give me another series. TNG was excellent, DS9 had me nailed to my sofa, Voyager was just more robots and lasers, and Enterprise was much better than Voyager but also had too much robots and lasers.

My favorite thing to watch in a Star Trek series is the chemistry between characters, the captain and higher ranks, conversations between the bridge officers, interaction between any character and the cook or tailor, how the non-human characters get along with each other. It's these changes in aggregate brain chemistry that make the magic for me.
