Name: Shay Kayton
Age: 31 (Adult)
A little about me: Hey! I'm Shay Kayton. Nice to meet you. As you can see, I'm very busy in here. This is my office, you see. This is my daughter, Eva. Adorable, isn't she? She and her twin, Andrew, are almost four. Well, I'll just put her down in her playpen and you and I can begin our little talk. Let's see. A little about me. Well, I'm a mom and a wife, but I guess you knew that. I went to school at Broman University, and I majored in interior design. I'm very silly sometimes, but really I am a hard worker. I'm also a perfectionist, and I won't rest until the job is done, and done right!
Personal style: I like organised, but lived-in. I am also drawn towards symmetry, which you can see in many of my house designs, as well as the twin's bedroom. I focus not as much on the big picture, but more on making each little detail stand out and fit just right.
Why I became a decorator: I love it! Since I was little, I loved rearranging and redoing, and when I was a teenager I purchased a game that allowed me to build and decorate houses for little families or loners or old couples... whatever the game said to build, I built. It was wonderful. I just love decorating, and I love the look when, after two hours of confused I'm-not-sure-what-I-want-ing, the woman walks into her house and exclaims, "It's perfect!" I love making people happy by giving them the perfect house.

Name: Ayanna Depaul
Age: 22

I am 22 and of French and Hawaiian descent with a major in Drama, I have been into interior design ever since I was a child and my mother allowed me to decide the decor of my bedroom. We lived in Hawaii for awhile, I have a love for bright bold flowers, I admit I can got a bit nuts with the flowers sometime. I just love to brighten up a simple bland room with flowers, bright colors.

Despite my love for flowers I have a more classic, modern chic personal style. It's a bit hard to mix my nature style with the classic style sometimes but I find it worth it when a room comes together just right.

I hope this is okay, I decided to post my application:

I wanted to make something beautiful with Maxis content only, I think I did a good job! :)

This is Jen Apple, She is a Barbra Streisand's personal decorator. She had been decorating Barbra's home since the late 1970's when she was just starting out as an eager decorator in her early 30's. She got offers to decorate many other stars homes, but she developed such a friendship with Barbra over the years, she felt if she left Babs, she would be betraying a good friend. Jen was featured with Barbra in In Style magazine in 2003, on the cover. There was a nice article about Jen and Barbra in there, and the magazine sold very well that week.

Pictures are thumbnails, they may take a while to load.

My name is Ryen Edith. My friends call me 'Rye Toast'. Or just Toast. I'm twenty-five years old and I'm an interior designer. That's a fancy name for shopping for people with too much money and not enough time. I started doing this sort of thing in college with some friends. They started a tiny theater thing, and I was the only one with any know-how with power tools. I became the set designer by default.
Since then, I've designed sets for several smaller companies around town. I started my design company on the side to pad my AA sized income. Think less wonderbra and more middle-school-cotton-ball-mistake. A word to the kiddos out there, cotton is better for cleaning your ears, and art won't get you rich. Though I only have personal experience with the latter. I've only watched the former go awry from afar.

Name: Amber Alva
Age: 22
Town: Sunset Valley
Career: Interior Designer and Business Owner

Bio

Hello, Amber Alva here, the new interior designer on the block.
Don't overlook me because I'm young, I'm definately no slouch.
After graduating college in interior design I decided to open a
business. I was raised by a wealthy family so I had plenty of money
to get me started. My business will specialize in taking old run-down
homes, flipping (remodeling) them, and selling them for profit. I don't
actually do all of the labor, I have hired help for that. I just draw up
the floor plans and decorate when the rebuilding is done. This home
will be our first flip. I'm going to love this job. It's what I was born to
do.

My style? I guess you could say it's mostly modern, even though
I'm always trying new things.

name: Johan De hout
age: 21

Its my first year of being a decorator, I love the style of wood, it makes the room more cosy and warm. It never gives the room a empty look. It's also very common in the country I live, I live in Sweden. I play gitar since I was nine and love to play it, thats why I have three gitars. I love it when my room and my clothes are very chic. But still im more an old fashion decorator, I dont like the abstract style. I became a interior decorator because my ex husband was always decorating our last home, and it was awful, so i studied decorating and now I decorate everything myself. Much better like this! :king:

THE ROOM

Taking inspiration from the world of televison, Kara has taken the spirit of one of the most famous living-rooms in history and reinterpreted it as a cosy functional space. It is not a literal attempt to copy the famous apartment but to take its essence and use it to make a warm place for your sims.

~ Take on the 70's ~
Round 1

I designed this room to bring out Tosha's modern lifestyle with a 70's look. It really brought out her personality and lifestyle. When Jon saw the room he freaked out because it was a lot better then the room they had before. When Tosha saw it for the first time she loved it. I tore down the walls to make it a conjoined room between a living room and a dining area with a Nice fireplace and a beautiful view of there back yard with trees and flowers and the kids swing. At the end of the day they Thanked me for giving them a great room that they will enjoy for the rest of there lives.

Guys i might be about to embarass myself by asking this but who are Tosha and Jon Hanson? - i looked for them and their house for a good hour - are they premade in-game sims or do i invent them and the layout of their house? Or do i go by the couple shown in the first entry for this round (the muscular guy and the "larger" lady)? I am stupid...

@dangmal,

their just imaginary character's, it's up to you if you will show them, it's just to give you an idea or history or background of the owner of the house your designing so you could incorporate it in your design.

"The seventies had such a broad style spectrum that i could really go anywhere with this, but knowing that the Hansons are both up and coming folk musicians in Riverview, i went for a modern interpretation of the psychadelic brights and open plan feel that the seventies was famous for. Its a very light-filled room and so to bounce that light around, yellow and green - both warm colours - are everywhere."

http://i26.tinypic.com/2nkuxkx.jpg
"it was important not to go too far with this, so i used one feature wall covered in retro wallpaper, and kept the rest fairly subdued - too much "wacky" seventies wallpaper would be overpowering".

http://i25.tinypic.com/104ruqr.jpg
"The Hansons are big entertainers so i built them a bar with a serving hatch, and a small dining table for two. They told me food is not too important in their lives, but they often throw parties, so this dedicated dining space has more of anemphasis on gruup activity

http://i30.tinypic.com/1zft1c4.jpg
"Tosha wasn't sure about all the dark wood at first, but John loved it. after a few minutes, Tosha came up and thanked me, and they've both invited me back for a Fondue party so i must have done something right!"

we really love the colour of green, its a coulour of nature. We do everything to protect the forest and try to get more people to cooperate. Better love then war! so we coloured our home all green, and much paintings of nature on the wall. The wood we put in the house, is all good wood, it comes from a place where every three they cut, they put a new one! that a really good project we work on too! we really like this place to chill and relax in! :king:

i could see why you would think my one looks tropical kevocool, but not the others?? any way, since i was going for a bright reinterpretation of hendrix/mamacass style 70's psychadelia, and since the seventies saw a huge boom in travel and what you'd call the tiki/tropical look came to influence design at home, i will take that as a complement because its exactly what i wanted! thanks for the feedback

~*~Far Out Man~*~

Why I Designed The Room This Way: Warm colors, the tangy tones of sun and earth, bring vitality and light to shadowy rooms. Red, yellow and orange, set against subtle wood make this room bright, alive, and exciting.

Today I finished decorating Tosha and Jon Hanson's Living/Diningroom. Thier budget was pretty low and they had a limited amount of space so I did what I could. When I met with them earlier this week they made a request to make thier livingroom look 70's modern. I could already tell this was going to be a challenge because it's a style I have never done before. In the end Tosha and Jon adored the result. Tosha thanked me by giving me a tight hug (something I'm certainly not use to), while Jon stood in the corner, unable to hide his excitment.

I think everyone is doing a great job! For all of you born in the late 80's and 90's, it's really easy to google 70's home decor and check out the images if you find you are stuck.

I was born in the late 70's so we still had our 'awesome, groovy' 70's furniture until the early to mid-80's. Orange, brown and putrid green...or yellow were very popular and for some reason used together like they matched somehow? "Yeah, real far out"! LOL!

The crocheted owl was another popular 70's item. It was suppose to be 'good luck' but, man that thing was eerie! Rugs were equally colourful... plush and muted coloured rugs was in almost every room, wildly designed wallpaper and linoleum floors were also another item found in most likely every home at the time...but don't forget that Happyasabunny is asking for a modern interpretation, so find some key pieces that you find interesting and put it together in a modernised theme? I don't know, I am just throwing out some ideas for the younger contestants :) Hope that's ok!

Michelle :)

To happyasabunny: I'm really confused. There's "Round 1 Take on the '70s" challenge, but the first page says "Far Out Man". Are they the same thing or totally different? Most importantly, should I submit my entry for the first round, which looks like it's about the '70s?

MissMichelle_JoanofSpark

Hey Extensa5420,

I will answer for Happyasabunny here (I don't think she'll mind...I hope!)

Happyasabunny likes to name her Rounds. Essentially it was just what she decided to name the first round and being a 70's theme, ' Far out man' seemed appropriate since it was a popular catchphrase at the time for many reasons ;) So, Round 1: 'Far out Man' is the 70's inspired decor theme room--it's all one and the same :)

Sincerest,

Michelle :lovestruc

Oh, also, Happyasabunny names her Rounds so that there is also a certain element of surprise. It isn't until the actual Round is posted that the contestants will know why she chose to name them...Don't get to worried about the names, it's just a hint to what is to come in the following rounds :)

Extensa5420-

Pictures:
3 pictures of your room
1 picture of you presenting it
1 picture of their reactions

These are the pictures you need for round 1. The application round is over so you don't need to worry about that anymore. The judges are judging them. Just focus on round 1.

I told you that because you are missing their reaction photo and you presenting it.

This was all found in a post about round 1. :)

Question for the EJ's:

This is only my second contest, and last competition I was called in to judge for Happyasabunny after apps and round 1 was over because the judges seemed to have disappeared on Happyasabunny(not nice!)...I was uncertain to whether I am to submit my judging on the forum anyway? I didn't know exactly how that process worked?

My guess was to keep it with me or submit it to you,Happyasabunny, but I didn't know if the contestants would be interested in seeing my judging posted on the forum for diversity sake?

My apps judging has been post-poned until later this evening due to reasons I PM'd Happyasabunny about...

Thanks everyone! :) :lovestruc

My internet keeps dropping off the face of the earth. This is the first time it hooked up since Friday night. Anyway, I still have to take the pics of my Round 1 and then I'll upload them. Is it okay if I'm late if my internet takes another unscheduled vacation?

My room is done and I moved a couple of Sims from the Sim Bin onto my lot with Justin to use for Jon and Tosha last night before getting done, so I need the pics of their reactions, yet.

How's this for a modern take on the 70's? Some of you may think that it was all about bright colors and wild wallpaper -- wrong answer. That stuff is so 60's. In the 70's there was still some of that stuff floating around but it was time for panelling and formica. Things were starting to get a little more modernized. As you can see, the room is panelled -- but with a modern panelling. Color schemes were pretty monochromatic with a dash of accent back then. This room is done in neutrals with blue for the contrast. Blue being Tosha's favorite color. If you look around, you'll see the classic 70's Elvis on black velvet. A vintage stereo tucked in the corner so Jon and Tosha can relive the 70's with some Black Sabbath blaring while they watch tv with the sound off.

~ Round 2 ~
Center of the Home!

Why I designed this room:
When I was looking at this family's house and budget I found out that I could do a lot of things with 20,000 dollars. I noticed there kitchen before was dark and when I walked in it made me feel unhappy. I decided to make this room as bright as possible to make someone who walks in happier and brighter when they leave. I stayed in the budget. This is one of the smaller rooms that I've done but by doing bigger rooms I've learned to put more of my ideas into a smaller space. Thank you to Lily and Adam and there two adorable and smart kids Tony and Jaclyn for letting me design there kitchen.

((Boy, I'm cutting this one close D: . 11:30 -4:00 GMT))

We'll start at the start here. I started this room with the color scheme of a seventies house and tried to stay... in the general aesthetic without trying to bring back disco. I found some very modern modish bar stools to go with the single largest purchase of the room. The bar. Such a small room almost demanded that kind of dining space.
The first thing I found was this great painting in the back of the prop room at my friends theater space. He said I could have it, and I based the rest of the colors off of it. The room looked a little dead for having so much color, so I got a kind of plush old rug and redyed it to match.

Tosha got home first and insisted we wait for her husband. She struck me as a little odd. But I guess you have to be to hire some one like me.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c153/aethiopica/ttb/house1.jpg

I met her husband almost an hour after our scheduled appointment. He looked awfully familiar and I couldn't figure out why until we finally got into the house. This wasn't "Jon" this was Paul McCartney, raised from the dead by some kind of dark magic for strange unknown purposes.
Tosha seemed vaguely amused and commented on the use of plant life. I told her that the ficus plant was magic and would do many wonderous tasks. She didn't believe me.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c153/aethiopica/ttb/house2.jpg

"Jon" told me the room didn't look like the 1970s at all. I told him I took some liberties to "bring it back to life", so to speak. He asked me what I was talking about, and I told him I knew all about him and his little tricksy business. Going about dying like that.
"Take me now!" I said ", I will gladly be part of your hoard of undead minions, oh musical one!"

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c153/aethiopica/ttb/house3.jpg

At which Tosha hissed at me, pushed me outside and told me my check would come in the mail. She also thanked me for knocking out the kitchen and creating a more spacious atmosphere. Then she slammed the door.

So that was that. I met the real Paul McCartney for all of two minutes and he already hates my very much not undead guts. Such is my life.

Hi Guys!

I am going to write a message on behalf of Happyasabunny, all the judges and other contestants participating.

I know this time of year can be tough for timing. If anyone needed an extension, I am sure Happyasabunny would or could have accomadated that seeing as everyone seems to be struggling with timing at this point.

Applications round was great! Scores aren't in yet becauseHappyasabunny usually puts up apps scores with round 1 scores.

Now, out of courtesy for Happyasabunny, the contestants still participating and the judges, it would be great if those of you who have deided to drop out could write a little note on the forum just so we all know and are on the same page :)

Round 1 contestants include:

karen445
dangmal
geitje
clynnc19
deatherella
AlfredAskew

I received notice from Extensa5420 and RingzTerritory that they have dropped out due to timing issues.

We are still awaiting Rounds1 from: joninmobile and Aspen Creations

Round 2 is suppose to be due tomorrow night (Friday, September 18th @ Midnight).

So far we only have one contestant for Round 2...There's still a whole day to finish it though :) *fingers crossed*

Please let us know if you are having any issues, have any questions or anything. I know Happyasabunny is a very understanding individual.
I know she worked hard on making this contest. I don't want to see participants leave without knowing what happened or if anyone has or had any suggestions regarding timing or whatever it is that you may want to add or discuss.

Sorry for the long message...I just wanted to clarify a few things.

No question or comment is ever regarded as stupid or unworthy. It takes a collaborative effort to make things work :D

Thanks everyone for listening.

Sincerest,

MissMichelle :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

Meet the Family:
Furry fada, Adam, with twisted toddler, Tony, and then there's that mangled mama, Lily, with chilling child, Jaclyn.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-4.jpg

Well . . . here I are back again with my next project to show y'all. I'm beginning to feel like I'm working (living?) in the House of Usher -- this place seems to change its rooms and family every week. Speaking of new families . . . I figure a guy should always remodel a joint to fit the family that lives and plays there, right? Well, take a look at this week's entree. Hmmmmmmmmm . . . Post-Apocalyptic Pleasantville and its inhabitants can be such a treat. No bright sunshine-y colors for these folks, nosiree, bub. these are the peeps that not only live in this house, but in your nightmares, muhwahahahahahahha. Here goes:

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-1.jpg

Dining Area
Straight off the Living(?)Room is the dining section. This room runs along the whole side of the home, so there's plenty of room for the joy of cooking and the ecstasy of eating.
Before we get any further, I got a story to tell you about getting this room done. At first, I thought, hmmmmm, 20k, quick trip to Menard's. Hah! Wrong answer there. You all realize that a man cannot counter and cupboard up a kitchen for under 10K or 15K at that joint? So, being a smart Sim I hit up my great kind and benevolent Creator's brother, who happens to be a CEO at Lampert's, for a discount on some cabinets. (Menard's and Home Depot's nemesis in the Midwest -- and other assorted parts of the U.S.). He laughed in my face, made some crack about me being nothing more than a stupid Sim, then he told me he was the hammer and I was the nail.
Good thing there's a Wal-Mart right between the two home building stores around here. Not to mention, all those discount stores over in the Twin Cities just a hop, skip and a jump away across the river. So, I got to work hitting all those places, getting a good price on paint, woods, used cabinets in need of said paint, thrift shops, garage sales, and an art gallery for those exorbitantly priced paintings in the dining area.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-2.jpg

Looking Into the Kitchen
Ain't she a beauty? You may wonder why red? Well . . . we are looking at the home of not necessarily human creatures are we not? A home should fit the family that lives there I say. There's not a lot of brickabrack since we had to pare that down to keep the price within budget, and, also, Adam and Lily have small children. No need to fill a room full of breakables for the pleasure of tots that love to toss whatever they can get their grits onto. Right? Right.
All the conveniences can be found, too. No need to get prune-y fingers doing dishes when you can slap them into the dishwasher; trash compactor when the folks are just to lazy to walk another ten feet; handy coffee latte maker for Adam and Lily to be able stay awake at night long enough to appreciate the fact the kids are in bed at night.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-3.jpg

Kitchen Area Redux

On the other wall of the kitchen, we gots the fridge sandwiched in between a broom closet and panty -- actually, it's posing as a pantry, the garbage can is in there to save a walk to the curb. You wouldn't believe how many skeletons can be crammed into those small spaces. The things you learn when you clean up a joint to make home improvements for someone else. Won't wonders ever sieze?

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-5.jpg

Now, that we're all done fixing and looking, I think I'll get a nice fire started here for some nice warm ambience to welcome Lily, Adam, and the kidlets. They should be here any minute to check out all my work.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-6.jpg

Adam and Lily Love It and Live It in their Killer Kitchen

Ahhhhhhh, nothing lets a dude know that his work has been appreciated more than a bunch of fools running amuk jumping up and down and exclaiming ooooohhhhhh, ahhhhhh, oooohhhhh, ahhhhh, oooohhhh, ahhhh, love it , love it, love it, must use, must use, must use right now this very minute . . .

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-7.jpg

Bonjour! my inspiration in this round came from from Paris france, where they understand how to have a family meal - Tv dinners don't really exist in france, its all about coming together. here i've tried to create a space that is both dining room and Kitchen (far trickier than it sounds), without being more one than the other. I realy like the calming space i created, and the use of sage-green in this room really helped with that. i even came under budget too!

I love it, dangamal. Very nice, indeed.

Thanks for the praise everyone. I'm using Sims cluttering up my Sim bin for all the peeps in the contest. You all can get fetch three from Round 2 (Lily & the tots) here at MTS. That's where I found them awhile back.

Kara writes: found this one very difficult because it was all very restrictive; pink here, blue there. didn't allow much room for creativity. also if i ever have kids i wont give the girl a barbie and make her dress in pink, i'll let her be a real person, but i did like how her room turned out, and so did she!

Comments-- Great Job karen! Very eclectic style of decor. It has a warm cottage feel to it. I liked how you added the French provincial furniture to off-set having a total 'cottage-feel'. Also, the plum coloured walls was a brilliant idea. It really brought the whole room together. I would have left the bookcase out, but that is only my opinion. I found the design was right but the colouring was a little too 'maple' for your room. You have a good eye though...great stuff!

Comments-- I loved your bio! Highly creative I liked that you decided to use only maxi made content in your room as well. I felt your room lacked a focal point though and perhaps it is because the colours used in the room are all light and in the same range of lightness. Perhaps a little more contrast in colour might have helped this room but who am I to diss Barbra Streisand!

comments-- Great job! The room borders on an achromatic colour scheme but then you dropped in these sky blue tints/shades which added a really interesting effect. It's a contemporary room and you chose 3 patterns to offset the 'straight lines' of a typical modern room and did a fabulous job! The flooring also was a nice touch. ~ Round 3 ~
Bedroom Round...

Description: I had the most fun time creating this room for Vikky and Steve. There house is gorgeous as it is. The bedroom just needed some work done so they called Me In! I followed the clear instuctions the kids gave me to add there favorite colors in. And also follow the parent's directions to make the room functional for the kids to sleep in. Once the kids saw the room they didn't like some items that were in the room but after awhile they got use to it and are now enjoying it. One funny thing I had to mention was the fact Dillion began complimenting me after he saw the room

Ms. Askew,

If you had something that you can still post for round 2, I am sure talkign it over with Happyasbunny would be fine.

Maybe you'll be penalised a few points, but I highly doubt it would be a huge problem.

I have to apologise to the forum for not having ym scores in for Rounds 1 & 2, ran into a week of bad luck..(glasses broke, car accident sat-night which broke my arm...but hey, it could be worse!!!)

I am going to get those points in today as I told Happy...even if it has typos! ;)

Ms. Askew, I would love to see you continue the contest! Hey, I am late too! lol!

huh? how did you figure that there'd be only one person in the last round? as far as the rest of us know, we're working on accumulating points, no booting. the rules say nothing about losing the lowest scoring contestants per round, and considering the high amount of drop-outs, I think happyasabunny would probably like to keep the rest of us around a tad longer

I'm sorry you broke your arm, too, missmichelle. Ouch. I guess you could pull one of my favorite tricks on my children twofold . . . when I forget my glasses, I make them read everything I want to look at out louid (other customers or not), and you could make your partner in crime pick them up to examine the merchandise as well. Of course, they rebel by sayng rather loudly that we need to go find something to use on "that rash". A metal brush is always my answer.

No worries, I was so confused about the point system the first time 'round...it can also differ between conntests even if you have the same creator.

So, with all 4 rounds plus applications that's a total of 500 points. I am not sure if Happyasabunny will be just giving out the acccumulative points or calculating the average and making the final mark our of 100...

The winner can claim their star from the moderator I believe(it is put under your moniker). Sometimes, we are lucky to get creators to make prizes but I think at this time of year, everyone is getting back to school, or getting their kids back to school...etc. Busy time!

Intro
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-1.jpg
I really had a fairy nice time doing up a fairy nice room for a fairy nice couple of kids from a fairy nice family. Quit rolling your eyes, clap your hands together and say "I believe in fairies." You wouldn't want to kill Tinkerbell, would ya?

Play Area
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-2.jpg

This room is an attic conversion with plenty of space. I chose bright rainbow colors since the fairies told me they love colors that bring the brightness of nature indoors. There's a big area for the children to play along with a study area niched in by the door as you can see in the pic below. Vikky and Steve will be sharing a desk instead of each having their own -- my original plan -- so that the stairs aren't blocked by a chair. There's also a child-sized easel by the seating for the little ones to get fairy creative.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-3.jpg

Vikky's Area
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-4.jpg
So fairy pink! So fairy Barbie! I think Vikky's going to love her personal space with all the sugar and spice colors. Not to mention, my creator's attic is a Barbie goldmine. So fairy nice of her to share them with Vikky . . . and the Great Goddess has Star Trek Barbie & Ken ---- ooooooh. $500 bucks to the first taker.

Steve's Area
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-5.jpg

I think Steve will be fairy happy with his area --- just what he was looking for the fairy most: cars, trucks and blue.

Room With A View . . .
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-6.jpg

Here's a couple long shots from both sides so you can see what a fairy big room I've worked on this round.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-7.jpg

Fairy Happy Family
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-8.jpg

Dillion and Reta are so fairy happy with so fairy much room for Vikky and Steve to learn, play, and grow as they stretch their wings.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-9.jpg

Steve and Vikky took a few flights of fancy giggling with glee throughout their room before settling down to have a fairy good time playing with their toys.

Overhead Shot:

(They even have a bathroom to share close by so they don't need to make a fairy fast dash downstairs.)
Overhead Opposite View (http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R3-OVERHEAD-B.jpg)

If there's something you want to see better, you may or may not find a fairy better one in here: Round 3 Rejects (http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/round%203/)

Thanks. I thought I'd never get done. I designed this room because they wanted a modern looking kitchen, the diner room they wanted in a more cosy wood form. so i combined them together in this wonderfull kitchen. they seem really happy with it!

Comments-- Fabulous work! Very well done! I loved your storyline. Nice use of the Formica and panels. The room was very creative and I liked that you chose greys and shades of blue to give it a modern edge.

Layout------8/10

Layout------7/10
Design------17/20
Uniqueness- 21/25
Creativity---20/25

Total------- 85/100

Comments-- Great work! I liked how used pieces from the late sixties and incorporated it with the 70’s and made it into this really awesome room! The room just screams : “FUN!” The characters reactions were absolutely priceless! Just one pic too many, but it’s no biggie! J (nice choice in colours!)

Layout------8/10

Uniqueness--21/25

Layout------8.5/10
Design-------18/20
Uniqueness---19/25
Creativity--- 21/25
Effort------ 20/20

Total------- 86.5/100

Comments-- The room is definitely reminiscent of a modern 70’s room. I liked the modern pieces you chose, such as the pendulant-like lamp and glass table. You also incorporated traditional style mirrors on each side of the fireplace! Really well done!

Round 2: ‘Center of the Home’

Layout-------8/10
Design-------17/20
Uniqueness-- 19/25
Creativity--- 19/25
Effort------ 18/20

Total------- 81/100

Comments-- I graded you a little lower than I would have liked to have because you were missing 2 essential pictures of your designer showing the room; otherwise I really loved your choice in French-country décor. The furnishings and colours were fabulous!

Layout------5/10
Design----- 16/20
Uniqueness- 20/25
Creativity---23/25
Effort-------20/20

Total------- 84/100

Comments--Well, the room was definitely ‘unique‘! In all fairness there, I must admit there was some 70’s elements to it, (as well as every other era from the past 50 decades, lol!), but it was highly creative and that’s were all your points came in, albeit very confusing to the eyes. Thanks again for the wonderful storyline! I enjoyed it very much!

Clynnc19

Layout------7/10
Design------17/20
Uniqueness--19/25
Creativity----19/25
Effort--------20/20

Total------- 82/100

Comments-- I liked how you did your own thing here and made Tosha and Marc have to work on a ‘tight budget’. The room was definitely a 70’s style room! Perhaps a little more use of modern pieces might have added some flare and made it more of a modern 70’s room but overall, good work!

Round 1:
geitje

Layout-------6/10
Design------ 15/20
Uniqueness-- 19/25
Creativity--- 18/25
Effort------- 20/20

Total------- 78 /100

Comments-- The colours used were fabulous(bright and clean)! Great choice in sofas. There was a definite modern 70’s vibe going on. I think that the layout could have been worked on a little more and perhaps to bring the room together, a brighter choice in colour for wall coverings might have really made an impact! Good work!

The scores so far are as follows:
Deatherella- 658
Karen445- 624

Since the lot I've been using for this contest has nowhere enough room for a large outdoor area (it's a 2x2 with the house taking up most of the space), I'll have to move my crew to a diff lot, so I'm wondering if the cost of a pool, etc, costs towards the budget if I use a lot that already has one?

arrrgggghhhh, sorry about this double post but the forum won't let me edit my last post, but I thought of this after I posted -- I could just stick a fake house (1 tile wide) up by the sidewalk and fake it on my lot. Or do you want a whole house to go with the yard?

Hey Deatherella,

I think (I am not sure) that you would just have to deduct the pool...I am guessing the home/lot is already paid for but empty. So long as the home is essentially empty (no furnishings or upgrades) then I think you would just have to deduct the pool, if the home/ lot you chose came with one...

I am sure Happyasabunny will correct me if I am wrong...

Oh and forgive me...I am a little off tonight. You could also have a 'fake' home too I would assume since it would simply be the 'backdrop' of the scene (so yeah, if you want to just build the back of the home or a partial home...I think that would be totally up to you), but I don't think you would have to include the 'actual house' or lot price in the budget (I think it did say that the home has a big backyard, so it would be my assumption that it is already paid for)... It's just what you do with the backyard...so pools, hot tubs, deck/patio, special landscaping, outdoor furnishings, fixtures...etc.

I think you might want a bigger lot for this round though...(just a suggestion :lovestruc )

Hey Severe_009,

That's okay--a few words is fine. I think Happy wants the contestants to know why they might have been graded a certain way...A few words of advice (constructive criticism) or why you liked what they did...I write a lot, it's just my nature but there's no need to be as in depth as mine.

I am sure whatever you write will be fine :)

Intro
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-1.jpg
Here we are all done with our last project in this fun-filled contest. I'm just getting some drinks ready for when the girls get home from class -- they usually have a bunch of buddies with them.
While working on this project, I kept in mind: girls = party, bill-payer = parents. So, we have a nice big area with lots of space, lots of seating, all the outdoor entertainment amenities in comfortable yet classy settings. Hopefully, the girls will come home and find their backyard paradise fun, yet functional to keep the parents happy.
Let's take a quick look around.

Tour Time
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-2.jpg

Here's the drink bar up here on the deck. The deck area and surrounding fences are finished in the same soft green pastel as the home. Molly and Jen's parents were sticklers for having the whole property flow together.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-3.jpg

Coming off the deck, are some poolside pleasures for the girls.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-4.jpg

You'll see cushions scattered throughout the area for seating, along with little table and chair settings so that the girls and their guests can take a break wherever they are in the pool area.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-5.jpg

Alongside the garage is the BBQ area.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-6.jpg

With room for plenty of guests. As I said before, the girls love to party so I concentrated on a classy environment for them to practice their hostessing skills.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-7.jpg

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-8.jpg

In the center of the pool is an "island" waiting and ready for the girls to kick back and do some sunning. There's even a pile of books ready for them to "improve their minds" while tanning.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R2-9.jpg

Here's Molly and Jen taking a moment to show me how much they love their backyard. They promptly started calling all their friends to invite them over for a pool party.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-10.jpg

Wow, all this contesting has really worn me out. I think I'll just lay back and take a rest listening to the joyful sounds of giggling girls splashing in the pool. Next to the BBQ, this is my favortie spot of the environment I created for a pair of charming chicks.

Overhead Shot
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/R4-OVERHEAD.jpg
You can catch where several things that don't show up in the tour shots in this pic. The sports area is attached on the side of the pool area and when Mommy & Daddy open up their wallets again, the girls just might get a garden maze.

Justin quit decorating when the tab hit 49,683s.
Please excuse any descrepancies you see in the house and garage (like the one tile wide gap on the second floor -- saw that when I was taking pics and it was hitting dawn.) since they are just shells for now.
Other pics that may or may not show more of the pool and deck areas are in: Round Rejects (http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Designer%20Contest/ROUND%204/)

hi guys - so sorry but i have to pull out. Its quite a complicated story, which began with a promotion at work, which lead to me being put in a hotel hundreds of miles from home, which lead to a huge row with my pregnant housemate, which lead to her throwing me out which lead to me being basically homeless but in a lavish hotel in a big city with no way of accessing my P.C.
The worst thing is, i did get home for a single day last week, completed an entry and then tripped on the power cable on the way to the bathroom destroying a good few hours of work. after that i couldn't bare to start again, the irony of designing a house for virtual people when i didn't have one of my own was almost too much the first time. So with great sadness i must bow out. Thanks to Missmichelle, who may well be the sweetest person in the world, for her endless enthusiasm and thoughtful comments and also to happyasabunny for breaking me into my first competition - which due to something i think i saw in the rules about people who dropout - is also quite possibly my last
thanks also to all the other judges and to deatherella, whos entries i was always most excited to see, (even though it annoyed me when his character justin attacked my 70's entry! ;)
Thanks guys i have enjoyed this competition enormously

I'm sorry to see you go -- your entries were quite well done. And I'm sorry if my offhand comment annoyed you. It was just a flippant remark about how everyone thinks that back in the 70's the theme was wild like in an Austin Powers movie but that stuff was phasing out from the 60's and in the 70's we got stuck with some really ugly colors unless you went with the understated elegance they taught us to decorate with in school. So, we were busy repainting furniture to match and murals on our walls and making our own pretty -- and if it looked cool under a blacklight all the better.

dangmal
2nd Oct 2009, 11:49 PM
thats okay deatherella - since you actually lived the seventies - and i wasn't even sperm at that point, i'll bow to your superior knowledge! and you didn't annoy me, but Justin Did ;) i really wish i'd got my last entry in because i'd made a sims 3 version of your sim (i found his hair converted for TS3) and i planned on hiding him in the background as a tribute - i even downloaded the fur-matic mod for accuracy!

oh well another time guys - my situation is too distracting for me to have done anything really good anyway, even though miss michelle can manage with a broken arm (makes me look rather pathetic in comparison!)

You fit in all the elements that Molly and Jen asked for as well as keeping 'Molly's parents' happy by staying well under budget; great job! I wasn't sure that you had a sports area, but I saw the football and then concluded that was the area they would be using...my only concern for that specific area is that there are nearby windows that may promote a 'hazardous' situation. Although I am not used to doing the lefty thing, I have been managing quite well...I am highly doubtful you are pathetic in any way...judging is much easier to do with my eyes and mind then creations...so I think had I been a competitor, it might have been a lot harder!!! :lovestruc

Thanks you all. That was fun. And I saw some really good decorating going on in this here contest.

"Congratulations Deatherella! Go to beeps for your star."

How do we get our stars nowadays? Mine from before the merge has neer been replaced.

MissMichelle: does being both-handed run in your family? One of my sons even writes exactly the same with both hands. When he was a kid, if one hand got tired doing long homework assignments, he's just shuck his pen into the other hand and carry on. We have ambidexterous and lefties all over the in our family.

Hey deatherella!

Umm, I am not entirely sure whether the ambidextrous things 'runs' in our family. I am not as fortunate as your son. I am much slower with the left hand and my writing, although it's legible (sp?), isn't as nice as the right hand. I suppose had I used the left as much as the right hand for writing throughout my life it could have been comparable? I can do a fair amount of other things just as easily with my left hand though ( that just came with practice and for some odd reason I don't even think about it)--just writing and art doesn't seem to be as neat...we do have a lot of lefties in our family. I think it's just about an even split. Perhaps it is a genetic thing? :lovestruc

I am positive I gave a score for your kitchen....I remember really liking it. It was the modern/orient with that beautiful red. I am pretty sure I gave you something in the mid 80's out of 100. I felt something was missing as well, but I was thinking it was all the last minute 'confusion'.

I can go look for my score sheet if Happyasabunny didn't get it. I remember sending it to her with my scores for Round 3 though...hmm. I hope that she got it!!

Comments-- I really love this kitchen! Well done! It is very modern/oriental. Sometimes modern styles can feel 'cold' but your use of that bold red in contrast to the dark and coolness of the straight lines just gives it this awesome impact and adds a lot of warmth. Lovely!

My scores for Round 3 + this score was definitely sent because I found it in my sent box. I also have your Round 3 as well geitje if you wanted...I am not seeing my scores up for that round either... :(

The scores are really hard to figure -- I noticed that, too. Maybe a certain happy little bunny could correllate them all into one nice neat thread for us to see. I'm not sure which rounds some of the score columns were for myself.
If geitje is really missing a round, our scors are close enough that it matters to do a recount after you add a hypothetical perfect 100 to hers.

geitje

yes i like to have a recount. i think someone forgot some round from me. im not sure who, but i noticed it then, but thought they already made the scores because i was very late with my post. so i figured they would score me the next time for it.
But now only my garden was scored. But i think, if the scores where added again, deatharella will still win, but it would give me a nicer feeling.

thank you:)

See at page 7, posted by happyasabunny 25th Sep 2009, 07:01 PM
and then the last one,
there is everyone scored for round 1 and 2,
marloezzel didnt scored anyone for round 2 there but she posted it later,
when you scroll more down, missmichelle only scored me on round 1
there i was 100 points behind because of,

Deatherella- 658
Karen445- 624
Dangmal- 624
AlfredAskew- 401
Clynnc19- 400
geitje- 582

and i figured, if i got for example 70 points for it, or something like that, i would be second place. cause i got then 652 points. but that never happened, i didnt got any points for that round:(

Deatherella
5th Oct 2009, 8:38 PM
geitje, I'm of the opinion that if I'm the winner, you're second place no matter what because you had entries for all rounds.
I don't mean to sound snitty, but if a person drops out, I don't think they should be contending for a "place" anymore. That would just be unfair to the people that did have entries for all rounds in a contest. Any contest, not just this one.

No affence. but this contest was pretty stupid to begin with.
Alot of people dropped out including me.
I dont really get how deatherella won... there guy didn't look right, had no shirt on, had a hairy chest to show off.. ew. and they was playing the sims 2.
LOL

I don't understand your problem karen445. It was a Sims 2 contest and the only requirement for our decorators were that they be young adults or adults. So I guess I got scored on what my shirtless wonder did in the contest other than whether or not he spent all his simoleans down at the boutique.

Hey karen!

Out of respect to Happyasabunny who worked very hard to make this contest and who also had to chase judges to give her scores, I think it may be a little 'harsh' to say the contest was 'stupid'.

I thought the contest was a great idea! It was well thought out and the rounds were really well done. The contest was actually for both Sims 2 and Sims 3 contestants.

As for Deatherella's designer, well I think she was implementing some humour with Justin's shirtless-ness and hairy chest which I found amusing and very unique. Happyasabunny said that the designers just needed to be human and that honestly left a big door open to make your character as unique, off the wall or as normal as you wanted...I was so sad to see you go karen!

geitje: As for a recount, I think it can be easily done. I would gladly do it for Happy if she doesn't have the time...she can send me what points she has that may have not been put up since it would only be yourself and deatherella. But, like deatherella said, I think you would need close to a perfect round to actually come in first, am I correct?

Good job, MissMichelle. From what we've seen, I know our scores were really close and I wanted the right person claiming first place.

And, I, too, think happyasabunny did a great job with her contest considering how hard it is to even get a contest off the ground since Sims3 came out. You did good.

severe_009-Look. I can't help the fact that I have a couple of judges that won't give me my scores on time. Also, I just got a new job and started school so I was busy. How about you make a contest and see how much work actually goes into it.

happyasabunny... Hosting a contest is complicated and time-consuming, and it can get pretty overwhelming when RL things pop up (which can't be avoided). But I do agree that as the host, it's your responsibility to keep your judges on schedule. If hosts have trouble with judges keeping on schedule with their scores, emergency judges should be called upon and a PM can be sent to me letting me know which judges are giving you trouble. That way we can work together to get a reliable set of judges to ensure your contest runs smoothly from start to finish :)

Everyone... ALWAYS feel free to PM me with any contest-related questions/thoughts/whatever you may have. I'm always here to help, and as I've said before I don't bite!
