I'm absolutely sick of Story Progression. I just logged into the Sims to find that one of my Sims has died at a house I wasn't playing... I'm tired of having to save every game using "Save As.." just to make sure nothing drastic happens at another house. And if it does, it basically means I have to roll back to before the last play session which is very annoying. (Yes, I have story progression turned off, but the game still does whatever it feels like.)

So I need the update that supposedly fixes Story Progression. However, for some reason, it won't download for me. I have internet, and am able to post at the Sims site, my game's registered and I'm not using any hacks or mods... but whenever I try to download the patch it gives me an error saying that programs associated with the Sims 3 are currently running and cancels the download. I have no programs running. I'm not in the game... the only thing I have running is the Sims launcher.

I see on this site there is a sticky with links to download the patch... either version 1.4.6 or 1.3.4. Which is the most stable? I haven't had any issues with the game other than the story progression, and don't want to mess up what is already working, but I can't stand to have my families move out, get fat, and die on their own anymore.

1.4 is basically a fixed version of 1.3 – for all I know there are no real differences between those two, apart from those fixes.

Since the earlier patches aren't available anymore now, I'd strongly recommend to back up your entire game before you patch, otherwise you won't be able to go back to an earlier version in case you run into any issues.

Thanks! I backed up my game and installed the patch. So far so good! Also the fast forward is a lot faster now... that was a bonus.
