Make Me a Model Contest
http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx343/Athena-SimGlim/MakeMeAModelMainPic.png
Introduction:
I'm former supermodel Anziel and I'm your host for Make Me A Model. We scoured the streets of New York, looking for the perfect face to be given the perfect opportunity to be a model. After weeks of searching, we finally found that perfect face. Meet 20 year old, Christina Bergwitz!
http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx343/Athena-SimGlim/ChristinaPic.png
Christina is an aspiring fashion designer attending the infamous Fashion Institute of Technology. She has decided to allow 10 lucky finalists to use her as a canvas. There will be an application round from which the 10 finalists will be chosen. Each round after that will reveal something about our beautiful, fun-loving Christina. Before we get to all of the fun here are a few rules and guidelines...

Rules:
1. You may not change Christina's facial structure, skin or eyes but, you may use contacts.
2. You may not use special body type meshes, such as Rio Girl, Athletic Girl, 34C Mesh, etc. Christina still wants to be herself when this is all over.
3. You can change Christina's hair however you'd like.
4. Any gender can enter but only young adult to Elder.
5. Photoshopping IS allowed! You must however, start with an in-game pose and hair. This means that you cannot draw a completely different hair style and you cannot piece the model together. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to ask.
6. Keep the high-fashion aspect in mind when doing your photoshoots and be creative!
7. Maximum Image size is 800x800.

Can I be a judge?

Finally! I've been waiting for the new contests to start rolling in :D

Can I be a judge please? I can't see me having any major conflicts but I will check my work schedule and let you know if there's gonna be any days I can't do it.

The only possible problem I can see right now is that I'm visiting family from around 04 Jan 10 so if the contest runs over I probably won't be able to do the last round.

SolidGoldFunk84
2nd Dec 2009, 11:38 PM
Ok thanks Keyesha and Missroxor, I will add you two immediately! :D

The last round judging will start on the second so, will that be a problem for you missroxor?

missroxor
2nd Dec 2009, 11:54 PM
I think, if everything goes according to plan I will be able to do it but with the holidays coming up I imagine there will be delays. :( I can still still get online when I'm at my families but I wouldn't have the time or inclination to use the precious little time I get with them on sims stuff, no offense :) So if the contest runs over I won't be able to participate after 04 Jan.

If this is an issue I totally understand and would be willing to drop to EJ so you could get someone that can cover the extra time at the end. Just let me know.

SolidGoldFunk84
3rd Dec 2009, 12:16 AM
Oh, everything should go according to plan. If it looks like it isn't going to I will shoot you a PM to let you know. :) Thanks so much!

I hope to see some applications up in here soon. :D

If it's okay (and allowed) I can be a judge if you like ^^ I have been in two contest here, and only finished one. I think that means I can judge right?? =S

aba23
3rd Dec 2009, 12:17 AM
Ok let m see if I understood that right - our application should be one Sim we would like to enter who shows what he or she can bring to the plate nd how good he or she is as a model? Then virtually this Sim we entered has to transform Christina, who is very pretty by the way, into a model? Is that right?

The application is in total 5 pics? Just makng sure I understood well...:-)

SolidGoldFunk84
3rd Dec 2009, 12:21 AM
Glad you like Christina. :D You have worded it perfectly aba23, I get confused with words sometimes so I was unsure if people would understand lol. But yes that is EXACTLY correct!

Ringz, would you like to be an EJ? It looks like missroxor will be able to be a judge afterall. :)

aba23
3rd Dec 2009, 03:27 AM
Just a question about the Part II pictures: It should show our Sim modelling in whatever settings we decide - is that correct?

SolidGoldFunk84
3rd Dec 2009, 03:32 AM
Yup, the application is pretty much whatever you want it to be. For Part II of the application round, there is no limit to the amount of photo-shopping because this is from previous contests and I would just like to see your picture taking/editing abilities. The only thing specific is the head shot. This should be from AT LEAST the shoulders up.

aba23
3rd Dec 2009, 05:24 AM
But I can also take a Sim I have not had in a contest so far? I would otherwise only have two to chose from

SolidGoldFunk84
3rd Dec 2009, 05:54 AM
Yes aba23. If you have never participated in a modeling contest then it is ok to create new pictures and new sims. If you have been in a modeling contest so far then you can give us any 3 pictures for any modeling contest. It does not have to be a different model in each picture. Just 3 different pictures...

Awww SolidGold, this looks like a wonderful contest! However, I'm still trying to recuperate from the one I just finished! Give it some time, they will come. You have plenty of people asking to judge, now you need people to enter! Your sim is very beautiful also.

Of course Free! :D

I was actually about to see if you still wanted to join. If not, I was going to ask your permission to post your application as an example. I'm so glad you're back though. :D

Deatherella
3rd Dec 2009, 07:13 PM
Solid, for the 3 part II pics, do you want any kind of pic from a former contest or all 3 straight pose of some sort, or can we toss in photoshopped ones that were for ads and such?

SolidGoldFunk84
3rd Dec 2009, 07:31 PM
Just think of the part II pictures as your portfolio because that's really what it's supposed to represent. You can have anything you want in your portfolio but, the only stipulation here is that you are showcasing a model. However you have done that is not going to be an issue. You can have as much photoshop as you'd like for these pictures. The judging process for the application isn't going to be very extensive. It will pretty much be the judges deciding which entries they like best out of them all. You will be given an overall score (and comments) to represent how much or how little the judges liked your entry. I hope that makes sense.

Freelala
3rd Dec 2009, 07:40 PM
Hooray!! :D Here's my contestant.

--------------------

Part One

My name is Eden Sawyer, and I am 30 years old. I'm a former model, now a scout and freelance fashion columnist - when I feel like working, that is. My husband is an engineer and we don't really need the extra income, so anything I make goes to our university's scholarship fund. An interesting fact about me is I used to be a Texas rodeo queen! It's actually how I got my start in modeling.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/Other%20Forum/edenmodelhead.jpg

This is one of the finest, and certain one of my favorite, shots from my personal portfolio.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/Other%20Forum/hamptons.jpg

Part Two

Here are some pictures from models I've recruited for my employer, Freelancer.

Model: Circe Lassater

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/Other%20Forum/santafe.jpg

Model: Fei Yen Lao

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/Other%20Forum/feiyenearth.jpg

Model: Scottie Hernandez

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/Other%20Forum/business2.jpg

Part Three

Why do I deserve to be selected? As you can see from my portfolio, I have a knack for interpretation and execution of a variety of scenes. My models can work a runway, pose, and approach any task with confidence and pose. I assure you that Christina will be in good hands. My employer has taken me places, and she won't let you down, either!

Ready to Conquer My World

Hi, all. I'm Deborah Johnson, I'm 27, and I'm so happy to be here. In the past, I've dj'd for a local radio station, designed and sold a few homes, did some modeling myself, and helped other persons in my community strive to become top models themselves. When I'm not out and about in my community working with others, I like to sit home with a good book or work on one of my creative pursuits whether it be painting, gardening, sewing or playing my guitar. On the guitar note, when I was a teenager, I won a contest to perform one song with KISS at a show they played at XCel Energy Center. Great fun, that.
I, also, still enjoy designing homes -- just loving it when I see the completed results. Nothing like beautiful homes for the beautiful people in my hometown.

Part II
Speaking of those beautiful people, here's a few I've worked with in the past. Perhaps, you remember them?

I've learned so much from my past endeavors working myself and with others in the modelling profession that I believe as a finalist, I can take my creativity to a whole new level. I'm so looking forward to working with Christina.

It's looking good so far Deatherella. I remember Kari, she's so gorgeous in that picture and your self-sim is a cutie! I'm going to add you now. :)

Oh, Deatherella, I noticed that you use maxis skins. Is it going to be a problem for you to download Christina?

Ah ok, I apologize aba. I thought you understood. But yeah, the way Free and Deatherella did it is correct. :)

Nevermind I get it now haha xD
I was confused at all the different pictures

SolidGoldFunk84
6th Dec 2009, 03:32 AM
All of what pictures Ringz?

There is only a picture of Christina under the Introduction part so that you can see the sim you're getting. The judges are labeled because those are the sims that they will be receiving as prizes for judging and the prizes that are being offered for regular contestants. I tried to make the lettering bigger for each part but MTS doesn't allow size bbcode it seems. I'll try to make some kind of simple graphic or something so that you can separate each part easier. :)

Thanks missroxor! :) Glad you like him. You don't have to send results in as him. I just wanted to offer you guys some prizes for judging but, sims were the only things I could think of to make.

And Raindrops, I'll be more than happy if you decided to join! :D I hope to see an application from you soon.

lol, oops, I guess I miss-understood that bit, I did see that you intended to give the judges prizes but I thought you'd added a little twist to it by getting us to be 'in character' as judges...I guess that does kinda sound dumb now that I think about it,

In any case, I have recently given my S2 away in favour of S3 so thank-you very much for the offer but I won't be taking a prize.

Hello,
I am Loredana Fletcher, I am 48 Years old and work in the fashion and modeling business since 25 Years. I started as photographer; it was my passion to picture little kids. When I was 18 I got a job in the local Photo center, after that I worked for a music magazine and that brought me into Showbiz. I developed my skills and opened my own Photoshop; I offered a special service for Model agencies. Over the Years I developed an eye for models. Sometimes I walk in the city or sit in a café and see someone – and think wow that is a personality a potential model. I also modeled sometimes but that is only for my pleasure. Whenever I discover a model I talk to that person and ask whether I could make some pictures. Sometimes they agree and sometimes they don’t, however I can say some of our fashion models which are hot today have started in front of my camera!

I brought you some pictures of some of the models that you might have seen in some magazines or TV shows, or on the catwalk, they all started in front of my Camera.

I am in love with my camera and I am always in love with all models. When I saw Christina I saw potential otherwise I would not be here. She looks very natural. Not too much not too les, her face is very soft and has nice features, beautiful lips and deep eyes. I get all excited when I look at her picture that you showed me. What you can expect from me when I am in the final, I will bring the best out of Christina without changing her personality. With my experience and her engagement in this project we will make something big out of it.

Part III: Though I am young and in a way unexperianced,I have talent and determination along with other feautures that will take me to the top. Christina has an unreleased yet subtle beauty that could be used for so much.
I intend to bring that 'so much'. I am also doing it for the girls who have their dreams, and their dreams were crushed. I want to teach them they can do anything. I am hoping to be able to work with the mystic of a girl,Christina,in the future.

Main interests: My adorable husband Corey (we met at a young age!), Being the best mommy I can to my son Cayden. I also enjoy painting, posing, and I specialize in hair styling as well. Not to mention, shopping! But my family is most important to me though, overall.

Well, I forgot to reinstall my paintshop pro (it helps me keep images the same size) and I can't until tomorrow. I'll update with better pictures upon request. Oh, don't worry about it christmas fear. :D I'm glad you decided to join. I can't wait to see your finished product. Extra pictures are fine, can you just label the main ones like the headshot, your model pose and your "portfolio" pictures? Also, there is no need to update with better pictures. I can pretty much see your skills from what you have. The judges will leave comments that will hopefully help you for the rounds.

I'm going to post the first round in a few minutes and extend applications until half way through the first round. Also, Christina will be sent out to the applicants today.

EDIT: luvyuyu, I've added you as an EJ. Thank you! :)

Before Posting your entry for Round 1, please wait until the scores/comments are posted for the application round. This will ensure that you get your critique/advice before you submit your work.

Round 1: Isn't She a Doll?
http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx343/Athena-SimGlim/Round1-IsntSheADoll.png

Introduction: So, the first little tid bit about our model is that she has an extensive doll collection! She loves to
make clothes for them. This first round you will be featuring Ms. Christina here as a doll. You will need 5 pictures for this round. Below is what should be in each and what we are judging you on for each photograph.
Total Maximum Points: 100

Photo 1: ON THE SET... For this shot, you will just be showing Christina in hair and makeup. Along with this frame, you must explain the inspiration or thought process behind the make-up and clothes you have chosen.
Judging Guidelines: The maximum amount of points for this photo is 20 points. You will be judged on your background, props and overall how realistic the set is.

Photo 2: EASY, BREEZY AND BEAUTIFUL... This shot should be a head shot advertising the make she is wearing. You may create a fictional brand of make-up if you'd like.
Judging Guidelines: The maximum amount of points for this photo is 30 points. You will be judged on creativity, unique concept, and the overall realism of the ad.

Photos 3-5: 3 pictures all with the same hair, make-up and outfit, showcasing Christina as a doll. These shots are mainly for you to play around and see what results you can get. For each of these photos explain what you did and what you were thinking when making them. 2-3 sentences is fine. The best of these will be decided upon among the judges and thoroughly critiqued.
Judging Guidelines: From this group, one of your photographs will be chosen to represent your best work. The judges will collectively choose one photograph to thoroughly critique. You will be judged on creativity, execution, uniqueness, and your poses. For the chosen photograph you can be given a possible 30 points. The other 2 photographs will automatically receive 10 points each for completion.

Deatherella, I have responded to your PM. It should work for MTS because although hotlink protection is enabled MTS is among the enabled referrers. Please try it again. If it still does not work I can PM you at your newly registered account.

Oh, and thank you christmas fear! :) That was my fault because I didn't post that you had to wait. Hopefully we will be able to post the scores before the 12th. Also, if you are using those pictures for your portfolio pictures, you need one more.

I got it this afternoon so all is good with me. Now, all I gotta do is go see how messed up my game is since my pc pulled an auto update while my game was saving when I turned it off. Ohhhh, I fear the house I spent hours making is gone.

Hello everyone!

I'm Valetta Howard and I'm interested in applying to be the photo stylist for your model Christina Bergwitz. I'm nearly 30 and for the past six years, I have worked as a creative director on photoshoots for several established modelling agencies and fashion magazines. I first started working in fashion, when I was in my late teens and I became a part time model for an agency and was chosen for several promotional campaigns and adverts.

This is one I did from a spreadshoot in a magazine advertising "La Belle Mer Eau de toilette". At the time it was great but I actually had to wear the perfume and it gave me a rash afterwards!

URL=http://img710.imageshack.us/i/snapshot782855f7f82af0a.jpg/]http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/2117/snapshot782855f7f82af0a.jpg[/URL]http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/snapshot782855f7f82af0a.jpg/1/w600.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img710/snapshot782855f7f82af0a.jpg/1/)

I eventually moved on from modelling, when I met my husband Austin and we had our two children Eve and Seth. They are adorable, although extremely hard work. Having kids has to be the best thing I've ever done because you I believe that youbreally get a sense of perspective about who you are and where your life is going. Actually, it was essentially that, that made me realise that I didn't really want to be a model and would far prefer to work behind the scenes of fashion shoots. I was never really in to 'being in the limelight' as they say. When I'm not working (or taking care of my little monsters!) I love to paint, read romace novels, go clothes shopping and go to the gym. There's nothing like exercise and retail therapy to cheer you up on a bad day. Well apart from chocolate!

In the past, I've worked on all different types of photo shoots and met many gorgeous and talented people. Me and my work partner Adam, who takes the shots of the models love to meet and work with new people as we often like to incorporate a little bit of their personality in to the photoshoot! This helps us to get to know them better and generally helps to make the models feel more at ease in front of the camera. Adam and I would love to have the opportunity to work with Christina. We agreed that she has an amazing amount of potential and a very versatile look - she is a natural beauty. Although, I might not have as much experience as other applicants, I have been working as a creative director for a while and I am extremely dedicated to my job and have a lot of both artistic spirit and determination, which I always apply to the photo shoots. I hope you will consider signing Christina to work with Adam and I.

Thank you!

PS: Here are some photoshoots that I have worked on in the last few years.

Right, thought I would have a go. Never done a modelling/beauty contest before but here goes nothing.

Name: Francine Claymore
Age: 26

Hi there! I’m Francine. I am currently a part time student and part time photographer. I tried modelling for a short while but found that it wasn’t really for me even though I had a perfume named after me as well as being the 'face' of it! I liked the creative and photography part of it more so that’s why I have gone back to studying - to learn more about it.

In my spare time, I love to read trashy romance novels, spend time with my very spoilt cat called Persia and take trips to different places so I can get ideas and take photographs.

Part I:

Photo of me and one from my modelling days.

Part II:

Some work that I done with other models that I am very proud of.

Part II:

Why should I be a finalist? This is may be very cheesy but I believe that everyone brings something different on and off the camera and I would like to see how I can work my magic on the lovely Christina and what we can do together. It will be a challenge and I hope to learn something new.

10th Dec 2009, 04:48 AM
christmas fear, for the application you needed a headshot, a model pose shot, and three portfolio shots. You can look at the other contestants applications if you are confused. They all did it correctly. :)

Thanks to the new applicants as well! I'm so glad you guys decided to join. It's a good thing I've extended the application round. I almost gave up. :D

Raindrops, you have nothing to worry about. Your application is fine. :) I'm going to add you and Meeka to the main post and send you two Christina immediately.

i edited my post. i got paint shop pro installed so i touched up and resized the pictures. they are all the same size now. i also added my missing portfolio shot. :)

i should also say now that i'm really relieved that i have until the 13th to start on round one again. i thought we had to start after round 1 was posted. :p i can also have more time to work on it between now and then.

SolidGoldFunk84
10th Dec 2009, 06:01 AM
Actually, you have until the last day of round 1 to work on it. Once the round closes (when I post that it's closed) then you cannot edit your entry. Round 1 ends on the 16th so you still have plenty of time to work on it. :) I will try to post all of the rounds early so that you can at least think about what you will do while you are waiting for scores to be posted. :)

Also, 2 of the judges scores are in for the 7 contestants that we have so far, we are only waiting on one. So, hopefully we will have the scores posted by the 12th so that everything will be on schedule. I'm going to find out if this competition can progress with 7 contestants if that's all we have by the 13th. I would just adjust the eliminations per round. I would hate for people to have started and their work go to waste.

EDIT: Everyone on the contestants list should have Christina now, if you do not please PM me so that I can send her to you. Thanks again for joining and I hope you all have fun. :D

Application Scores:

Judge One
Freelala - Eden Sawyer
Overall Skill Level: 50/50
What was done well? When I look at this picture I can't spot one flaw! I love the detail and the fact that I feel that you put in so much work!
What needs work? My only word of advice is to keep bringing it! This is truly beautiful!
Overall Commentary: I believe that you really thought about every possible aspect. The angles are terrific! I feel as though you are a photographer who stepped into the world of the Sims to take each picture yourself(if that makes sense).

Deatherella - Deborah Johnson
overall skill level:45/50
what was done well? I believe that your sims are constructed very well. They are absolutely beautiful!
I love how you made your sim multi-talented. You show that a pretty face can go very far
what needs work? I feel that you made a great effort, however I would like to see more detail in both the
face as well as the background. I want to be able to feel the message that you are attempting to portray
just by looking at the picture.
Overall commentary: I believe that you have great talent and with a little more work you can bring out
a wonderful side of Christina for the world to see!

Aba23 - Loredana Fletcher
Overall Skill level:47/50
What was done well? I believe that your sims are so beautiful! I feel that you really took the time to
really think about the poses. I especially love the confidence that your sim has. She just knows that she
is a star maker!
What needs work? I would like for you to work on your background a little bit. I feel that you can definitely
bring out a little more. I want to see more of the models' faces.
overall commentary: I believe that your sim loves the camera and I feel that she loves the models as well.
I know that you will bring out the natural star in Christina in a way that no one else could! :)

Noteardrops - Marisol Johnson
Overall skill level: 49/50
What was done well? All of it! I love the feeling that I get when I look at your pictures! They just look so warm
and candid. I don't feel as if they are really posing. It looks as if they are really in the moment and the cameras
are nowhere in sight. They are just lovely! :)
what needs work? All I would ask is to see more levels in the modeling meaning some high, some low, etc.
Overall commentary: You definitely has what it takes to steer Christina in the direction that she is trying to go in...
In fact, you have what it takes to take her to her exact destination and back! I am loving your work!

Christmas fears - Lily Sanderas
overall skill level: 40/50
What was done well? Your sim is gorgeous! she looks like the type of woman that everyone can relate to. I get the feeling
that she is a well grounded individual.
what needs work? I would like for you to put more thought into your background and try to focus more on the feeling that you
you are trying to portray. I would have also liked it if she had on more clothes in front of her son. From the photos submitted
I don't feel her passion for modeling or for style.
Overall commentary: Your sim is very beautiful and I believe with a little more dedication she can bring out something wonderful in
Christina. I can't wait to see how you will grow in the future rounds!

Raindrops757 - Valetta Howard
Overall skill level: 41/50
what was done well? Your sims are really beautiful. I like how they are all beautiful without
really trying.
What needs work? Although I like how your sims are beautiful without trying, I would like to
see more. I feel that it lacks effort. The shots that you captured lacks focus for me. I
really want to see more.
Overall commentary: I see potential in your work. With more focus and effort I believe that you will
definitely have what it takes to get Christina to the next level.

Meeka - Francine Claymore
Overall Skill level:48/50
What was done well? Your sims are so lovely! I could be wrong but I get the feeling that
you love nature. Your work displays tranquility for me. I see that you bring out the
gental side of your subjects.
What needs work? Although I love your work, I would love to see a little more drama and intensity.
Overall commentary: I really love your work and even though they are all different models I can tell that this is your work. Your photos leave me wanting more so... give it to me! ;) I believe that you are an excellent match for Christina!

Military.fashionshow - Audrey Greene
Overall skill level: 50/50
What was done well? I love your sim! She is absolutely
flawless! I love how modeling isn't even listed as one of her
yet she does it so well!
What needs work? Honestly, I feel that you have executed this
task very well. You just gotta keep it going! :)
Overall commentary: You definitely have what it takes to get
Christina to where she wants to be. In fact, you can take her
a little further if you'd like! Keep bringing it because you definitely
got skills! :)

Judge Two
Freelala - Eden Sawyer
Overall Skill Level: 50/50
What was done well? Your picture quality is outstanding! I also think that you are very creative as far as setting up your scenes and posing your model. Eden is very confident and I love her "I am the ish" attitude. A very beautiful, well thought out application!
What needs work? I can't find a single flaw! :D
Overall Commentary: You have a very distinct, realistic style in your pictures and I love that! You've already grasped the high fashion element and this competition is about making Christina well known. I know you can do that. :)

Deatherella - Deborah Johnson
Overall Skill Level: 43/50
What was done well? I can tell that you and Deborah are very good at expressing yourselves verbally. You have a knack for storytelling and as far as your pictures, I think your close up shots are the most beautiful! You have a knack for bringing out the beauty in your models. I know this talent will serve Christina well in this competition.
What needs work? I think your backgrounds/props need more consideration. When choosing a good background there doesn't always have to be so much involved. I think for you less would be more. And, if you feel that you must absolutely have everything in your background that's there, it's very important to make your model stand out. Your model should never just blend in. I think you should spend a little time in your graphics editing program to see what effects you can achieve to get your models to stand out among the elaborate backgrounds. You can try color splash, gradient layers, lighting effects, etc.
Overall Commentary: I trust that Christina is in really good hands with you. For this first round I would say focus a little more on the layout of your bodyshots (backgrounds, etc.) and try the effects that I mentioned above.

aba23 - Loredana Fletcher
Overall Skill Level: 46/50
What was done well? I just know that Christina will be well taken care of with you. Loredana exudes confidence and beauty. She is so gorgeous in that model shot! Would you happen to have her available for download? :D Ok, so what you did well, I've noticed that you have progressed and you really know how to show your models!
What needs work? I would say to try to pay more attention to the details in the background. Also, there are certain times where you don't really need a lot going on in the background. For example, that last shot from your portfolio could have just been grass and a sky in the background. Maybe a couple of weeds here and there to give it that simple magazine quality that I know you can achieve.
Overall Commentary: I know that I will continue to see improvement in your pictures and that's what this competition is all about. Christina is going to enjoy going on this ride with you as well. :)

noteardrops - Marisol Johnson
Overall Skill Level: 48/50
What was done well? Almost everything was done well!
What needs work? I think the edges of your models appear to be very pixelated (except the first portfolio shot). If you have done everything the game has allowed and the edges still appear too pixelated, then I would suggest going into your graphics program, adding another layer and just smoothing out these edges. It shouldn't take very much but it is very effective.
Overall Commentary: Overall, I truly loved your application and I look forward to seeing what you will do with Christina. :)

christmas fears - Lily Sanderas
Overall Skill Level: 40/50
What was done well? I especially loved the fact that Lily is your typical woman and she is in love with her family.
What needs work? I think overall your pictures have potential. You can definitely pose your sims but, you just aren't capturing their best angles. Also, your backgrounds need a bit more work. I know you said that this is your first competition so, if you would like, as you post your round pictures I can assess them for you and tell you exactly what you will need to do to take it to the next level.
Overall Commentary: You definitely have potential. I think if you put more effort into your background, poses and overall feelings you are trying to portray you can get much better results. Before capturing your pictures, you should think about what you want people to get from it when they look at it. Again, if you need more help I will be here checking the thread at the very LEAST once a day. :)

Raindrops757 - Valetta Howard
Overall Skill Level: 42.5/50
What was done well? You gave us great insight into Valetta. I feel like I know her and she's so loveable and seems very well grounded. I love her passion for the camera and it's that reason that I trust that Christina will be in good hands.
What needs work? I think you need to focus on your composition when taking pictures. To me, there doesn't seem to be a definite focus and I think maybe centering or even going with an assymetrical layout will work well. Angles are a bit harder to do especially with the game camera. I do think that once you get the straight on focus down that you will be able to capture any angle.
Overall Commentary: Valetta is indeed passionate about fashion but, I think it needs to translate to your pictures. You should try finding some magazine ads and attempt to duplicate them. I think this will be good practice for you and I also think that it will make your photos better.

Meeka - Francine Claymore
Overall Skill Level: 47/50
What was done well? I absolutely loved your application! Your photos are of great quality and I loved how I got that "artsy" vibe from Francine.
What needs work? I think your photos are only missing "the final touches." Slight touch ups should take your photos to the next level.
Overall Commentary: Beautiful entry and you made me glad that applications were extended! I really look forward to seeing what you will do with Christina. :)

military.fashionshow - Audrey Greene
Overall Skill Level: 47.5/50
What was done well? You have a very beautiful ethereal quality to your pictures making them so soft and feminine! I also loved how sweet Audrey seemed.
What needs work? I think for future rounds, especially the first round, you should have a little more going on in your backgrounds. You don't have to make it too cluttered or noisy back there, just give us something that adds to a theme, emotion or whatever you are trying to portray.
Overall Commentary: Overall this was a beautiful entry! The extra effort put into that second portfolio shot made me smile. :) If you get as creative with your backgrounds as you are with your sims and posing them, I know you will do really well. :D

Judge Three
Freelala – Eden Sawyer 49.5/50
I loved your Santa Fe pic, the concept was really original and I love the way you integrated sim world and real world together. Nice touch with the high noon shadow and sheen on her skin like she’s really stuck out in the baking sun. I love the variety in your portfolio, each pic is vastly different and you still worked in the high fashion concept. Overall you show real flare for photoshopping and setting atmosphere. There wasn’t really anything I didn’t like.

Deatharella - Deborah Johnson 46/50
I loved your Zombie pic; very original. You show good variety in your portfolio though I think you could’ve made a better choice than your last pic as although the model is very pretty I don’t feel it really shows off what you could be capable of: It doesn’t really allow for composition or set design etc unless you were just going for focus comparison? Very nice work on your poses overall.

Aba23 - Loredana Fletcher 48/50
Loredana’s model shot is hot! I like the different atmospheres in each pic and your poses too. You portray moods very well. I found some of the lighting a tad off for my liking; Keisha seemed a little too dark whilst Loredana seemed to have too much light on her face when the sun is supposed to be behind her.

Noteardrops - Marisol Johnson 45/50
I love Marisol’s alternative look and career history. You’ve put thought into the concepts behind the pics but I have to say when I think ‘man cave’ I think beer, not champers, lol (unless that was ironic?) I really like the vibrant colours and careful poses throughout your portfolio. Maybe try a little less blur in future pics clear and in focus isn’t a negative thing.
PS, I love the name Marisol ;)

Christmas fear - Lily Sanderas 39/50
Wow, Lily is very pretty. Since you had a body shot and model pose I wasn’t sure which was for Part 1 and which was part 2. I assumed from the wording that the ‘model pose’ was for part 1 in which case I felt that your body shot was nice for reportage but I would hope for a more stylised and composed shot in your top 3 portfolio pics. The next portfolio pic (second one down) was quite raunchy, is Lily a glamour model? lol. Your lighting was really effective and your poses very powerful. Your last portfolio shot was very similar in concept and set design to the others. In future rounds you should try to add variety to your pics showing original and creative ideas. Oops, you missed part III entirely. It’s a good idea to make a list of all the round requirements and tick them off as you go so you don’t forget anything.

Raindrops757 - Valetta Howard 49/50
Nice back story but I feel you gave yourself more work than you needed to, half of that would’ve covered everything you needed (don’t worry, I haven’t deducted points for that, just my opinion). One of your biggest strengths is definitely set design. You’re very good at setting the mood too; I specifically love the ‘no escape’ pic. There’s so much realism in your platform 4 pic, it’s very gritty, I like. Overall very creative and varied.

Meeka – Francine Claymore 48.5/50
I really love Francine’s look, she almost looks like she’s a TS3 sim in that first shot (that’s good in my books, lol). You show a lot of originality and creativity in all your shots though as I’ve said in previous entries, I feel that close up head shots really don’t have much place in portfolios (as far as this contest is concerned anyway) as you can’t really show off much in the way of technique, composition, set design and layout. That said, I do like your framing and she is very pretty
I can’t get over how much I love your last pic. Everything about it is stunning and really visually effective, nice work. ;)

Military.fashionshow - Audrey Greene - 47/50
Audrey is very pretty. Your photoshopping (or whichever image software program you use) skills are obviously quite adept which will stand you in good stead throughout this contest however I feel you may have gone a little overboard with the blur tool on some of your images. I know I’ve said it before so I’d like to stress that blur can be very effective in some situations but every other picture does not need to be blurred to the max. I especially liked your swimwear shot. I love the mixed textures and raw materials of the set design though it would’ve been nice to see Audrey look into the camera. Your last portfolio shot is very candid and in my opinion, not really the sort of image that I would expect to see in the top three of somebody’s portfolio. I think it would’ve worked better if you swapped your body shot from Part 1 with this shot. Overall I got the impression that Audrey was entering as a model since all the pics are of her and she doesn’t seem to mention at any point being interested in fashion, photography, modelling or directing models. I haven’t deducted points for this though since I could easily have the wrong impression but have added it to remind you to read the rules (inc following posts about rules clarifications) thoroughly before submitting your final entry.

Overall Scores:
From First to Eighth Place

Just to make sure that I understood correctly this time, a few questions for Round 1:

Photo 1: ON THE SET... For this shot, you will just be showing Christina in hair and makeup. Along with this frame, you must explain the inspiration or thought process behind the make-up and clothes you have chosen.

Do not really understand this assignment - does she have to just 'hang around' on the set or should it be modelling for a certain photo shoot?

Photos 3-5: 3 pictures all with the same hair, make-up and outfit, showcasing Christina as a doll. These shots are mainly for you to play around and see what results you can get. For each of these photos explain what you did and what you were thinking when making them.

Does it really have to be the same hair, makeup and outfit in all three pictures? So she will be the same Doll in all of them and it is only about the pose?

Thanks to the judges for all the scores :) I will try to take the comments on board and work better with the camera angles and picture capture.

SolidGoldFunk- I don't seem to be able to download Christina because my package installer wouldn't install the content because there was content from an expansion pack that I didn't have. I have University, OFB, Seasons, Nightlife, Apartment Life and Pets, so is there any way that I would be able to download her?

The only thing that I have that you do not is Freetime. Maybe thats what you are missing. However when you use cleaninstaller then it should work, I think.

My big question for round 1:
For Photo 1, is the shot supposed to be shoulders up or full body? It doesn't say either specifically and I'm not sure since we are to show her hair and makeup.

And, now that my game is running and I have went to CAS to fetch Christina out of the line-up, where do we find her hair as pictued in your photo? I get her in a bun, and would prefer the hair in your original. Just being anal here.

military.fashionshow, beautiful start! I will try to have your scores posted by the 14th or 15th.

aba, you are correct about using clean installer. It should work after that because sims do not require EP's. :)

aba and Deatherella, the way you choose to portray her on the set is completely up to you. You can have her hanging around or you can have her modeling but it must be obvious that she is on a set. If you can get your background to look like a set in a close up shot then go for it. This competition is about what your applicant can do creatively. As for photos 3-5 yes she must be the same doll in these pictures. You may change your sets and poses but not the hair and makeup. The goal was to be as realistic as possible. In reality you will get a certain amount of frames to capture what works best for your model and that's what this part is mimicking. Please be warned that your pictures are being judged on quality and of course creativity if there is no real variety in these 3 pictures then realistically you don't have a best shot out of the bunch which will have you miss a total of 30 points/judge. Feel free to go all out with this, the same hair and make up does not equate to the same picture and feeling.

EDIT: Oh sorry Deatherella I didn't see your hair request. The hair in the picture is a pay hair from NewSea which is why it was not included. You can download it from the booty but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link it here.

NOTE: beeps has informed me that if we cannot accumulate 10 contestants by the end of the application round tomorrow, the winner will not be eligible to receive a star. I hope this doesn't deter anyone from continuing because it can still be fun. :)

WOW noteardrops! That second part III shot is just gorgeous! The first shot is also beautiful but it's supposed to be Christina in hair and make-up on a set. Like she's in the process of getting ready for the shoot. Oh and do you have a screenshot of your graphics setting in your game? I could probably help you now if you want.

Here we are, getting ready for the photoshoot. We considered all types of dolls, from corn husk to Barbie, but ultimately, I felt most inspired by Victorian porcelain dolls. With her pale skin, dark hair, and bright eyes, Christina already looked the part of a porcelain doll. We decided to play up those features, and browsed antique stores for props and costumes. The studio was transformed into a Victorian child's room, and the most prized doll in our collection was almost ready.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/hairandmakeup.jpg

First, though, we had to get the perfect picture to advertise the makeup we used for the shoot! I use this collection all the time at home - it's one of my personal favorites.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/makeupad.jpg

Finally, I give you the three best the pictures from our shoot. This first one is my personal favorite because it was a complete accident. Linus, the photographer, and I both really wanted to use the adorable pink stool Christina is sitting on. We loved the stool, but ultimately decided against it because the white wood finish didn't match with the rest of the furniture. Before we could take it off the set, Christina sat down on it to take a break while Linus and I were exchanging ideas, and then Linus exclaimed "That's it! That's my shot!" and got this picture in one frame. (As for who got to take the stool home after the shoot, though... well, we've worked out a joint custody agreement. Meaning I keep the stool and Linus retains custody of his joints.)

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/doll1.jpg

I like this picture because it shows off Christina's height. We wanted a standing shot of sorts, but she's a doll and dolls can't stand on their own. Half-jokingly, Charlie, one of the lighting technicians, suggested we hang her from one of the lamp. The rest is history.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/doll3.jpg

Finally, I wanted one of Christina among the other toys. Ultimately, we were trying to convey a sense of transition. The toys are still abundant, but the hat and purse in the background symbolize that the little girl who owned them perhaps isn't so little anymore. There comes a time in every toy's life where they are set on the floor and won't be picked up again by the child who once couldn't let it go.

Part 1:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/Peeka/SC/mmam/R2Part1.jpg

I wanted Christina to look like a Victorian porcelain doll as I believe this is a look that she will look fantastic in and produce some great shots.

I went to see how Christina was getting along in hair and make up managed to take this photo of her, amazed with her doll make up and wondering with excitment what the clothes would look like.

Part 2:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/Peeka/SC/mmam/R2Part2.jpg
Christina is wearing a newly released make up brand called Kleo which specialises in the fresh and feminine look.

Part 3:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/Peeka/SC/mmam/R2Part3a.jpg
For this shot I am showing Christina as a beautiful porcelain doll that has been left and long forgotten in the attic of an old house along with other toys and clutter.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/Peeka/SC/mmam/R2Part3b.jpg
I thought it would be fun to have doll Christina to part in a teddy bears' picnic. The children of the house use to play this with them and is something the toys always loved.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/Peeka/SC/mmam/R2Part3c.jpg
The picnic is over, the toys and doll Christina are now tired. Time to find somewhere comfortable to rest. Tomorrow is another day and just maybe...maybe someone new will come and find them, play with them and love them.

Getting ready

While trying out all those gorgeous dresses that we considered for our next shoot, Christina and I had so much fun that we almost forgot time and then we had to stress to get her ready. However my Son (15) who was also at the set – and who – I think – has a little crush on Christina sneaked into the dressing room and took this cute snapshoot of her. Even with her hair in the Towel and half dressed she looks beautiful. It is good to see that even when things get stressed sometimes Christina still keeps her smile and shows humor that is very important in this business.

Christina is the new face – or better said - the new eyes of the Booster lashes! Series.
Wow that mascara really makes her eyes pop and the make up artist really did an excellent job. Watch out when you walk down the street next time you might come across this picture more often from now on.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/Makeup.jpg

Three best shoots

When I heard of this doll idea I immediately pictured Christina in an old gown, a really pompous one, with an elegant hairdo and a light makeup an elegant, gracious and ladylike shoot. I thought about different settings and believe me we tried a lot but I think we made some wonderful pictures. As said, Christina and I had super much fun, going through all those lovely gowns, trying them and feeling like little princesses. And she really looked breathtaking! If I would be a 15 Year old boy I probably had a crush on her as well.

I did want to begin with a close up shoot, since the day was still young and Christina's face was still relaxed. Her face had to be smooth like that of a doll. I think she did fabulous and she looks gorgeous doesn’t she? Sweet and innocent like a doll.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/Dollcloseup.jpg

The shoot in the Victorian living room should look like a doll portrait, like you would put it in a collector’s catalogue for dolls. Show the doll in a proper setting and for a Victorian Lady Christina had to look and pose gracefully. I think she did a wonderful job.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/DOLLPIC.jpg

The shooting, actually the whole day, was very exhausting for all of us. In the late afternoon, Christina went out to the fountain to rest a bit. I do not know why but the way she was sitting there, the light, this whole – yeah kind of mystic atmosphere this simply giving me chills. I think it looks fantastic.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/Dollpic5.jpg

I am already excited about the other sides Christina will let the world see.

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ROUND 2 UNTIL ROUND 1 SCORES ARE POSTED! IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE GUIDELINES PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING AND HAVE FUN!!! :bunny:

Round 2: So, you wanna be a rockstar?
http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx343/Athena-SimGlim/Round2-SoYouWannaBeaRockstar-3.png

Introduction: This round reveals that Christina is a guitarist! Who knew this girl was an all around artist? This round will of
course feature our model as a rock star. Photoshop is REQUIRED for this round. You should have 5 pictures for this. Below is what should be in the 5 images.
Total Maximum Points: 100

Photo 1: ON THE SET... For this shot, you will just be showing Christina in hair and makeup. Along with this image, you must explain the inspiration or thought process behind the make-up, clothes and hair you have chosen.
Judging Guidelines: The maximum amount of points for this shot is 20 points. You will once again be judged on your background, props and overall realism of the set.

Photo 2: BEAUTY SHOP... This shot should be advertising a hair salon. You will need to create this ad for the creator of the hair you are using. For example, if you are using a hair by Nouk, then the ad should be for "Nouk's Salon" or something along those lines.
Judging Guidelines: The maximum amount of points for this shot is 20 points. You will be judged on how well you represented the product; this will include creativity, your concept, and how realistic your ad is.

Photo 3: BEFORE PHOTOSHOP...Using the same hair and make-up featured in your ad, you must present the BEFORE Photoshop image of Christina as a Rock Star. This means there can be NO adjustments such as brightness/contrast, borders, filters, etc.
Judging Guidelines: The maximum amount of points for this shot is 20 points. You will be judged on how much photoshopping will need to be done to make the image a usable print. This means that the more your shot looks like an actual print, the higher your score will be.

Photo 4: AFTER PHOTOSHOP... Using the same image above, you must show your photo-retouching skills. Along with this image, you must explain everything you've done to acheive certain effects.
Judging Guidelines: The maximum amount of points for this shot is 30 points. You will be judged on how much photoshopping you've actually done. Your score will be higher if you didn't have to change much. Keep in mind that you will have to make at least 1 change to your photo.

Photo 5: RUNNER UP... This shot should be your second best shot out of all of your frames. It should be a final product meaning retouching has been done to it to make it a print.
Judging guidelines: You can receive a maximum of 10 points. You will be judged on how well you use your photo editing program and the creativity of your concept.

Question: for the hair ad, what should we do if we use a recolor by someone other than who made the mesh? Credit both? (ex. "Lancelot & Galahad's Salon")

Solid, my game borked when I was working on my pics last evening and I have spent almost all day today working out some real life issues. Can I have an extra day to finish doing my pics? I'm sorry you all, I wanted to have the fun of competing in this contest but too much stuff to deal with going on in real life (plus I never even found the time to un-bork my game, yet) so I am going to have to drop out. Hey, I'm sorry I just dropped out suddenly but I (stupidly) managed to break my laptop which has my sims 2 stuff on it and this is the first I have been able to use another computer. I hope that this didn't cause any inconvenience.

By the way, everyone's round ones look great. Maybe it's a good thing I can't do it because I wouldn't have been able to keep up with the standard of the entries. :)

SolidGoldFunk84
20th Dec 2009, 03:33 AM
aba23, the deadline is the same for Round 2. Round 2 was posted early so there will still have been enough time to complete the round. You are only waiting for the scores to actually post your pictures. Most of you have already gotten all of the comments that you need. For you though, I would say to work a little harder on this round's advertisement. Try downloading custom fonts (dafont.com is a good site) and combining realistic items to give your ad a more realistic feel. Also, looking at real advertisements may help you get some ideas.

Raindrops, it didn't cause any inconvenience. It made the judges jobs a bit easier so don't worry about it. :)

Oh no worries aba... I'm thinking about extending the round for a couple of days. Here is one set of scores so that you guys don't have to wait until the last minute to post your next round...

Judge 1 - SolidGoldFunk84
Freelala - Eden Sawyer
Picture 1
Background: 10/10
Props: 10/10 (How well they were used)
Comments: There is a lot going on here... kind of like an actual set would be. Everyone in the picture is posed so perfectly! Great use of props and beautiful detail in the background.
Total: 20/20

Picture 2
Creativity: 10/10
Concept: 10/10
Realism: 10/10
Comments: This is what I imagined when creating the guidelines for this picture. You've nailed it! Your skill with your graphics editing program is outstanding! I love it and all I can say is... keep up the good work.
Total: 30/30

Pictures 3-5
Best Picture - Picture 2
Creativity: 10/10
Portrayal of Doll Theme: 10/10
Pose: 4/5
Beauty: 5/5
Comments: After the judges deliberation, picture 2 was chosen as your best shot. Your background is so beautiful and it fits so well with the doll theme you were trying to portray. For this picture, I would have preferred to see her on a pedestal of some sort. She reminds me of those ballerina music boxes that just spin when opened. There seems to be a little bit of blurriness around the legs and I can't tell that she's hanging from the lamp. This is still a very beautiful picture and definitely shows that Eden is more than qualified to take any model to a Super Model level.
Total: 29/30

Doll Picture 2
Completion: 10/10
Comments: (Picture 1) I love how the pink contrasts with the rest of the picture making her stand out even more. I think a less natural pose would have set this picture off to the next level.
Total: 10/10

Doll Picture 3
Completion: 10/10
Comments: (Picture 3) She really appears to be a doll for this picture and this was actually the second choice among the judges. The reason this one wasn't chosen is because she appears to be too relaxed to be a doll. Dolls are stiff and have a blank expression, I think a less natural or less relaxed pose would have taken this picture to the next level.
Total: 10/10

Overall Total: 99/100

Aba23 - Loredana Fletcher
Picture 1
Background: 7/10
Props: 7/10
Comments: I think you should have put more work into your set. Christina looks beautiful there but the image appears too blurry. The table there could have had several make-up piled on it to better represent a photoshoot set.
Total: 14/20

Picture 2
Creativity: 6/10
Concept: 7/10
Realism: 6/10
Comments: I think you should try looking at actual advertisements to see how they're supposed to look. It's obvious that you tried your best but I think you need more practice in your graphics program. The edges of the makeup that you cut out are too obvious.
Total: 19/30

Pictures 3-5
Best Picture - (Picture 2)
Creativity: 9/10
Portrayal of Doll Theme: 8/10
Pose: 4/5
Beauty: 5/5
Comments: Christina looks absolutely gorgeous and I love your theme. I think your pose could have been a bit more stiff and doll like and your set could have used a little more work. Maybe more dolls on the table would have been all that you needed to accentuate your doll theme. Overall I loved how unique your theme is I just think there should have been more toys to better portray her as a doll. I hope that made sense.
Total: 26/30

Doll Picture 2
Completion: 10/10
Comments: (Picture 1) I think there should have been less expression on Christina's face in this one. I love the fact that you decided on a close up shot though. It was a risk and it would have been perfect had you focused a little more on her expression.
Total: 10/10

Doll Picture 3
Completion: 10/10
Comments: (Picture 3) I love your use of lighting in this picture! I think a softer touch would have been absolutely beautiful.
Total: 10/10

Overall Total: 79/100

noteardrops - Marisol Johnson
Picture 1
Background: 5/10
Props: 5/10 (How well they were used)
Comments: It seems that you missed the point behind this shoot. In the directions it states that she is supposed to be on a set. Although this is a beautiful picture, you did not do what was asked of you.
Total: 10/20

Picture 2
Creativity: 0/10
Concept: 0/10
Realism: 0/10
Comments: There is nothing to say here since the picture was missing. :(
Total: 0/30

Pictures 3-5
Best Picture - Picture 2
Creativity: 10/10
Portrayal of Doll Theme: 8/10
Pose: 4/5
Beauty: 5/5
Comments: This is truly an amazing picture! It's so soft and beautiful. I especially loved your concept of heavenly doll with an alternative twist. It was really well executed and I can tell you put a lot of thought into this particular photo. I would have liked to see this photo as a full body shot though. I think it could have really showed that "doll like" quality that I am looking for.
Total: 27/30

Doll Picture 2
Completion: 10/10
Comments: (Picture 1) This picture is way too small but I love the idea behind it. I think you overused the brightness/contrast tool on the Christina in the background.
Total: 10/10

Doll Picture 3
Completion: 10/10
Comments: I think less of an expression would have better suited this picture. I also think that once again you've over used the brightness/contrast.
Total: 10/10

Overall Total: 57/100

Meeka- Francine Claymore
Picture 1
Background: 10/10
Props: 10/10
Comments: Very beautifully done! I don't see that you could have done anything better here. I love the clutter on the dresser and the worried look on Christina's face as she getting ready for her first photoshoot. Great job!
Total: 20/20

Picture 2
Creativity: 10/10
Concept: 10/10
Realism: 9/10
Comments: I really love this picture! Christina really does look fresh and feminine here, even with her unkempt brows. You've done a beautiful job here. The only thing that I can see that threw me off was the hair around her face. I don't know if that's the way the mesh was made but it looks a bit awkward and "drawn" on some of the hair surrounding her face.
Total: 29/30

Pictures 3-5
Best Picture - Picture 1
Creativity: 10/10
Portrayal of Doll Theme: 10/10
Pose: 5/5
Beauty: 5/5
Comments: I love the stiff pose you have going in this one! I knew she was an antique doll forgotten in an attic BEFORE reading your text. Very well done and all you need to do is keep up the beautiful work! :)
Total: 30/30

Doll Picture 2
Completion: 10/10
Comments: (Picture 2) Wow! I love it and it's amazing that you've managed to keep her looking like a doll. You remained focus this round and I love everything about this picture.
Total: 10/10

Doll Picture 3

Judge 2 - missroxor
Freelala
Picture 1
Background: 10/10
Props: 10/10 (How well they were used)
Comments: Wow, Fantastic use of props, they’re so realistic. The background set ties in nicely with the theme of your doll too. I love the extra touches like the guy who I’m assuming is the photographer framing his shots: simply brilliant!
Total: 20/20

Picture 2
Creativity: 10/10
Concept: 10/10
Realism: 9.5/10
Comments: This shot is very feminine and pretty, I love the backdrop. My only criticism, which isn’t really a major point, is that the lip stick/gloss she’s wearing doesn’t look like anywhere near the same colour of the product which detracts ever so slightly from the realism. Overall, very nice shot.

Comments: I was gonna say the exact same thing about the music box ballerina but someone got there before me. I don’t know if that’s what you were going for but it definitely suits the outfit choice, setting and obviously the doll theme. Another extremely minor point but your two Christmas teddies seem out of place, they’re too new and modern looking for that setting. The rest of it works very well together and fits with the theme you chose. Nice work.

Attention to detail is paramount in advertising.

Comments: The set is ok but the colours are all a bit clashy for my liking. The Victorian era is about lots of colourful and contrasting patterns but I don’t feel that your choices complement each other very well. Better use of props would help reinforce the theme. I do like Christina’s hair, make-up and dress, very in-keeping with the theme. The pose seems a little too human to be doll like to me but she does look elegant beautiful like a doll of that era would be.

It’s only now that I’m actually concentrating on your pic that I noticed she is stood beside her grave. The lighting/contrast seems a little off. I’m sure it was intentional but whatever effect you were going for hasn’t really worked. I can’t see what the writing says either. The only criticism I can think of, and it’s really not a big issue, is that in comparison to the old, faded antiques around her Christina’s dress looks very vibrant and new. Why does it seem like all the contest here judge based on "whose the best at photoshop?" >.> lol no offense to anyone..but it does seem like that =S

missroxor

Ringz I don't think that's really the case. If it's a specific round like advertising something then it goes without saying that the contestant will need to have at least basic knowledge of some kind of image editing software.

When I'm judging I occassionally comment on photoshopping skills if they're particulary good or bad but I don't think I've ever docked points for them except where I feel that the contestant has ruined their pic through over-shopping. Also it depends on what criteria you're judging on. If you're asked to judge on the overall beauty of a picture then 9 times out of 10 a picture with nicely done photoshopping looks a lot better than a bog-standard screen shot. Also, lighting and contrast can make or break a good pic (I have docked points for this in the past if I felt it was needed and it fit the judging criteria)...but that can be done on powerpoint, you don't have to be a photoshop pro to achieve good levels.

Most contests that I've seen limit the amount of photoshopping that's allowed to make it fair on everyone. This one hasn't set many limits because as far as I can see so far some of the tasks do require it.

singing_Noel

Ringz: This was actually the main reason why I didn't join, some of the tasks seemed to be a bit beyond my abilities.

missroxor: I can see where you're coming from, but I still think that in the end result you're still judging them on their photoshop/photoediting capabilities, but who's to say who's better than who when programs like photoshop offers so much? I'm a photographer, I have a photographer's eye, when I edit...I try to set the mood that I couldn't set with the camera, like shadows and color composition, rather than ehancing something that really doesn't need to be enhance ( like clarity for example ). I have nothing against photoshopping sims itself, it's a wonderful way to nix ingame problems, but I think that you should either go all the way or cut it out completely seeing as it's extremely expensive to obtain, and extremely hard to master.

So all in all I think with contests, photoshop tends to be more of a discourgement than a helpful tool in my opinion. I don't know if anyone else agrees, but yeah...that's kinda how I've always felt about it.

Otherwise, everybody has their own sense of style, whether it's photoshopped or not...and I think that should be praised rather than judged. Plus, it isn't hard to tell who worked hard, and who didn't.

; )

On another note, I'm really impressed with everything so far contestants...and I can't wait to see your R2 entries.

Well I think I am looking old compared to Freelala and Meeka here. I have not that much skills in advertising - just not my thing.

I do not think that I have to put a lot clutter in my pictures. More Dolls in my picture could have made it too much I feel. I like simple clean shots. For the dressing picture - yeah you are right. (Does this time the 'On the set picture) have to be a getting ready again?

"(Picture 1) I think there should have been less expression on Christina's face in this one." How could I have made less expression? That is her face...I have not done any expression here?

Noel, I think we're at risk of going completely off topic here but since you addressed this particular contest; I think it's a good thing that you were able to recognise from the first post that this contest is perhaps not suited to your abilities. As long as the contest host makes their intentions and expectations clear from the start there's not really any reason to feel bad that you couldn't enter.

The one and only contest I've ever joined as a contestant I did so without looking at previous contest entrants. I had no idea how tough the competition would be and even though I know how to use photoshop it didn't occur to me to use it until it was too late and I was out  I didn't realise people took these contests that seriously until then. That said, I didn't put a great deal of effort into composition and creativity either. I mistakenly thought that I could dress up my sim and it didn't matter about the rest of the pic because the judges just wanted to see how the sim looks.

Amazing photoshop skills won't save you if you can't meet the criteria or have no clue about setting up a scene or composition and colour etc. Likewise, if you really do know all this stuff and can plan and compose a shot to perfection then it really doesn't matter if you haven't shopped it. In fact, as I've said before, sometimes when people think they're improving something really they're just ruining a perfectly good shot.

In the case of this particular contest which has more to do with how the contestants characters present the model than the model herself (feel free to correct me Solid) I think photoshopping should be positively encouraged since in the real world a modern day photographer/image editor/whatever would rather tear out their own eyeballs than publish a raw image with no touch ups whatsoever.

Disclaimer: someone kindly PM'd me to point out my hastily typed out words were perhaps lacking one particular point: Many old school photographers (I know a lot of them) would choke on their breakfast at the mention of the word 'photoshop' believing that wet film is the only way to take a good pic. What I was thinking of when I made that last statement was photos taken for advertising purposes and to go into magazines etc...unless it happens to be a photography magazine (and even then) I really doubt that photos get published in for example fashion magazines without any sort of touch up.

I have nothing against photoshopping. Each to their own. I personally havent done that much photoshopping to my pictures apart from the advertisement about makeup where I think it was needed but then again it was all very basic stuff.

So far, the photoshopping I have done on my other pictures is make them lighter/darker, add borders and sharpen (yup, that is all).

The other reason to why I am limiting myself is that I dont really know how beyond the basics and its not something I have time for in great detail at the moment (too busy celebrating the festive season and buying gifts!). All I do is just make a scene/setting according to the round requirements (this is when my downloads folder screams in mercy), add the model and take as many shots at different angles as I can. I then take a look back on what I have and see what I think will work or not.

Im only in this contest to have fun and what I can personally do creativity wise. Im not expecting too much! :P

Comments: I think you should try looking at actual advertisements to see how they're supposed to look. It's obvious that you tried your best but I think you need more practice in your graphics program. The edges of the makeup that you cut out are too obvious.

Ok how do I get rid of these edges?

It was very difficult to come up with a theme for this photo shoot, and while I was mulling it over, my mind would not let go of one word used to describe the rock genre. That word was "legendary." I took it to my team, and we decided to build our theme off of that word. The theme we chose was a subject that has made a huge impact on heavy metal music: Norse mythology. We took a lot of liberty, of course, but ultimately we wanted to make Christina look like a valkyrie, if a valkyrie were to join a Vættir heavy metal band. To complete Christina's transformation into a valkyrie, we gave her wings, tipped her hair with red, made it into a night shoot in a forest to add elements of mystery and danger, and brought in a replica of Gene Simmons' Axe Bass. Our Nordic rock-warrior was almost ready.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/hairandmakeup2.jpg

For the hair, my makeup artist consulted a salon in Copenhagen, and the final product came from their test shots. It was their suggestion to add the red, which symbolizes fire and blood, and by extension, the warrior nature of the valkyrie. We paid tribute to them with this advertisement.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/hairad.jpg

Here is the "before" version of the best frame from the photo shoot. (cropped from the original screenshot, here (http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/ScreenShot059.jpg))

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/rockfinalunedited.jpg

Because my photographer, Linus, is a lighting genius, the amount of touchup we had to do was minimal. First, I adjusted the levels to bring a truer black to the darkest parts of the picture and add extra pop to the colors. Next, I used the dodge tool on Christina's face to help it stand out more. For a bit more emphasis, I used a sharpening filter, then faded the effect to 25%. Finally, we added a simple black border, reasoning that anything more complicated would take away from the picture rather than add to it.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/spaceysims/MTS/rockfinalcopy.jpg

This picture was the runner-up for best shot. I like the angle and intensity, but I don't like the effects the fire and lighting had on the wings.

I didn't read all of the comments here because they seem a bit off topic. Ringz, you do not have to use a lot of photoshop to create a beautiful sims picture. It's the fact that you used photoshop and it didn't work out too well. lf you want help acheiving certain effects all you have to do is ask. I have no problem helping any of the contestants and I don't think it's against any rules to do so. And to make her have LESS expression you could have used Decorgal's pose box or just waited until she wasn't smiling. That isn't her face like you claim it to be. If that were just her face all of your pictures of her would appear the same. To me every contestant made her stand out in a different way which was really the point. I think every contest is a learning process, I created this one because I thought it would be fun. If you're not having fun then you don't have to continue I won't be upset, I won't hold any grudges and the contest will continue. I just want to thank everyone who isn't complaining about the comments. They are really there to help you not to hurt you. I'm actually learning some things from all of the contestants and the judges. :)

Oh and aba, if you still need help removing those edges then I will help you. Just let me know. :)

On the set
A few weeks have already gone by since I met Christina and she really got close to my heart. Before she had to pose in front of the camera again I used the time for me, Christina and my Son Jerome to talk a bit and catch up. Christina has so little time left that I just wanted her to calm down for a minute and just hang out with us. We got a good cup of espresso and chilled out in the interview area of the set. It was a really needed downtime for all of us. Christina just joined us from the hairstylist and was still in her very normal comfortable cloth. So it was a good chance for me to get to know her even better.

Christina is a demanded face for advertisements and commercials. Until now that made her always appear as the beauty, the lovely cover girl and the sunshine in house. Which is good, no doubt, but as a model one has to be alterable and multifarious. Only then you get jobs and you will be booked for various projects.

This time I arranged a photo shoot with BC Rick, they wanted to have their guitars promoted and needed new pictures for their posters in their shops. Christina had to undergo a radical metamorphose from pretty girl to rock chick. For that matter I arranged another deal with Bailelizabet. They would provide one of their famous colorful extreme hairstyles for Christina and in exchange they could use pictures of her for their advertisement.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/Christinaad.jpg

Untouched shot
First I was shocked when I saw her coming out but once she was on stage she really was in her element. From being one with the guitar to playing with the imaginative audience she did a good job. We let her play in front of big speakers and just plain black walls so we could go in many directions. I think the photographer took about a hundred pictures. A few of them I really liked, however this one here talked the most to me.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/Pureshot.jpg

We tried various styles with this picture but nothing wanted to fit. But then – I had that song in my head – Purple Rain – and as it happened I came up with – Purple flame. Not sure why but we tried it. We changed the background of the picture into a purple flame theme and just blended Christina and the microphone in. Then we cropped it until it had the right focus and there it was. I think it looks great. BC Rick decided for this picture for their posters.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/abaer23/Christinainpurple3.jpg

Second runner up
I had another favorite – just because how Christina looked into the camera here. For BC Rick it was not suitable because the Microphone did block the view on Christina’s face a little too much for them. However I actually absolutely love that about the picture. I think it has something really powerful – don’t you think?

Ok, I've just read everyone's comments...

noel, so far the judges have pointed out something positive (something done well) and things that need more work. I made that the requirements because I didn't want to discourage anyone. This competition isn't about discouraging anyone and I think you coming here complaining about "Who is who to say such and such?" is only making things worse. I can understand if I or any of the other judges have given criticism that was so off the wall but we haven't. If anyone's feelings are hurt then I do apologize but like I said earlier, I am here to help not discourage. And from what I've seen of the one contest that I was in composition, layout and picture quality wasn't even an issue and it should have been. I've made my intentions clear from the beginning because that contest really left a bad taste in my mouth. The deserved winner only won because someone else dropped out. It isn't fair to give everyone an "A" for effort just because they may have a "different" style. missroxor is correct, this contest is about presentation. It's obvious to me that EVERYONE worked hard on their pictures but, that isn't what they were being judged on. If a contestant is going to make the choice to use a graphics editing program then they should be proficient at it. And if they're not, that's what the host is here for and that's what tutorials are for. I am not that good at photoshop and all of my pictures have very MINIMAL photoshopping so it's not like I'm really judging, I'm telling them what I think and what I do know.

I'm sorry Ringz I jumbled yours and aba's posts together but, that was the issue with aba's entry. Also aba, it would have been fine if the shots were actually clean and simple but they weren't. Your shots seemed to NEED more to accentuate your theme. Had she been able to pull off the doll theme all alone then that would have been more than fine but since you could not portray her as a doll in her facial expression and pose alone you should have used props.

As stated earlier, if anyone isn't happy participating I would rather you just drop out because this is supposed to be fun and it's not going to be if people are coming in here making a "fuss" about things that don't matter. Like I said, I said what this contest was all about from the beginning so there are no surprises. Not only did I outline this in the introduction but I am also stating what the contestants are being judged on each round. I figured people would want to join for the same reason Meeka stated, to see how creative you can get. Even if the judges don't like the pictures, if you know that it's your best work then so be it. In the Next Top Model Contest, ALL but the last of those pictures represented my all and I still received low scores but that didn't matter to me. I loved my pictures and I had fun doing them.

As a judge I can honestly say that my judging has absolutely nothing to do with photoshop. I focus on whether or not the contestant is doing what is asked of them. You can have the greatest photoshopping skills but if you submit something other than what is asked of you then you will be scored accordingly. I'm certain that if we cared about photoshop it would have been stated in the rules. Every contestant is very talented whether their work is photoshopped or not.

Introduction: Another fun fact about Christina is that she once duplicated, with her talented left hand, the infamous painting, The Mona Lisa! For this round, you will feature Christina as MonaLisa with a twist. You should have 4 images for this round. Below is what should be in each image.
Total Maximum Points: 100

Photo 1: REAL MONA LISA... This photograph should be as close to the original painting as you can get.
Judgine Guidelines: For this photo you will be judged on how close you came to the real thing. Of course it is not possible to get it to look exact but the effort that you show in recreating this masterpiece will be considered and there you can receive a maximum of 25 points.

Photo 2: MONA LISA WITH ATTITUDE... This photograph should show mystery but with a hint of attitude. You can veer as far away from the original painting as you'd like but we should still be able to tell that the Mona Lisa was your inspiration for this shoot.
Judging Guidelines: For this photo, you will be judged on how creative you are in conveying an attitude. You can receive a maximum of 25 points for this photograph.

Photo 3: MONA LISA WITH YOUR OWN TWIST... This photograph should feature Christina as MonaLisa with your own original twist.
Judging Guidelines: For this photo you will be judged on creativity, how well you used color, and how unique your twist is. You can receive a maximum of 25 points for this photo.

Photo 4: MONA LISA NOW... This photograph should feature Christina as you would picture Mona Lisa to appear today. Be creative with this because this can mean a number of things.
Judging Guidelines: This photograph will be judged on how creative you were in bringing her to 2009, how unique your modern concept is and how well you executed this task. You can receive a maximum of 25 points for this photo.

I was not complaining, I was asking and giving my opinion. I feel that you are attacking me for that. Just because I have an opinion and tell it, it does not mean that I am not happy participating.

I'd just like to apologize, I know it probably doesn't make a difference if I do and I wouldn't blame you guys if you didn't take it, but I'm going to anyway.

I went out of line, and instead of being the bigger person in this I tried to level only to turn out more malicious than I planned to be. This is just a tender issue to me, and something that's been for years. I didn't say what I said to get on anyone's nerves, but it did anyway...and again I'm sorry.

My bad experiences has made me bias, and this was actually the main reason why I didn't joined, even though I wanted to participate to help myself, and the host...who I consider a good friend.

I've made a mistake, and I'm not going to make it again, and I know is too late but I wanna be the bigger person now...and better now than never, I think...

Well anyway, again...I'm sorry.

noel, I was not being unprofessional, I was being honest. There aren't any unfair advantages because photoshop is NOT required, it's allowed! And, how was I unclear, I said I was looking for high fashion, and high quality? I don't think there's anything unclear about that. You are actually the one being unprofessional. You act like you're the voice of reason among everyone and therefore you must be right. You should have taken any issues you thought you saw up with me and no one else.

To aba, you were quite rude in your response to the comments and I'm sorry if you feel attacked but that was not my intention. I was explaining my reasoning behind your scores because those scores and comments came from me. I stated from the very beginning that if anyone needs help to let me know. You nor anyone else did that so what am I supposed to do?

I am going to ask boolprop to close this contest and I want to apologize to all of the contestants who were actually having fun and taking everything for what it was worth. I will send the participation prizes to everyone and send some winner prizes to Freelala and Meeka as soon as I can.

Also, noel, you can expect a PM from me!
