View Full Version : Recolouring with GMDCs

I've been using Morague's default replacement tutorial to create replacements for some global accessories, but I've come to the point where I need to modify the GMDCs in order for the textures to fit.

I've found all the files I need, but I'm unsure which of them exactly I need to alter and how.
Is there any tutorial out there that covers this?

Thanks in advance :)

Well if you need to modify part of the GMDC to add groups for different texture parts, then you need to look at tutorials for meshing. you will also need to look at the tutorials for adding recolorable subsets.

Object Creation (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorials:Object_Creation_Tutorials)

If you have something a bit more specific than that, please post more info. :)

Thank you for replying, and sorry I was a bit vague there ^^

What I have is a recolour of what essentially is the same mesh, but with a texture that behaves differently, so as far as I understand, following Morague's tutorial (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=236017) , I need to add it's GMDC so the texture fits properly. But according to her steps there isn't a GMDC to alter in the resulting clone.

Most of the tutorials I've found are about creating new meshes or recoloring custom meshes, but it's a maxis mesh with an alternative maxis texture that just doesn't fit without the GMDC. So I don't need to *create* the GMDC, just add it to the clone along with the recolour.

LoL Ok I think I understand. Following that tutorial you are creating a replacement texture, but you also want to change the mapping or add another mesh group?

If your changing the mesh shape, mapping or adding subsets then you also need the GMDC. You also will probably need the GMND and SHPE, unless your simply remapping the existing mesh and leaving the same mesh groups using the same TXTR.

If your simply creating a new default texture you only need the TXTR.

Following Morague's tutorial, you clone the selected object with all boxes unticked, this will bring in the Geometric Data Container (GMDC) you need. The purpose of all boxes unticked is to gather all related resources and for the filenames to remain original.

The quick way to get the resources you need from your clone, right click the resource and choose Export. Then Import into new package. Textures need to be Exported in Plugin view to be able to work with the raw image though.

I think I've got the hang of it now. I'm new to the workshop so it's a bit overwhelming at the start, but as long as I know which files to use I can get results by trial and error.

The only items I've been having problems with recolouring and cloning now are aspiration rewards, but they seem to require some more work so I'll try to look more into cloning in general before I take them on.
Thank you so much for your help :)
