I waited for months for this film to come out. I went to see it on the release date (UK) and was instantly in love. This is exactly what I've been looking for a film a big storyline build up and then an epic battle. I've already seen it 3 times now in the space of a week and it cost £10 a ticket where I love. Go and see it if you haven't, not only will the special effects blow you away but also the storyline is amazing and full of emotion.

So what's everyone else opinion? Its been sold out constantly in my city Cinema's and everyone has given great viewers so I can imagine there will be a lot of feedback for you lot too.

My mum & dad went to see it. Dad liked it, mum didn't. Personally, it wouldn't interest me, I'm just not into the whole science-fiction sort of thing. And spending hours in a cinema isn't my thing either. *is a boring person* :P

Ha, that's funny. I saw it three times too. I loved it. I'm probably going to get my friend to go see it tomorrow. The theater was even more crowded than when I went to see New Moon. Some people in line said they were there in line an hour and a half before. All the people I know who saw it liked it. My brother only liked the war part though. :P

I had to wait 2 hours and then be seated by the front which I weren't happy about. Also anyone who says they don't like it before they have even seen it well how can you say that if you haven't actually seen it. Tbh Im not into sci-fi much myself, but this is defo more fantasy than sci-fi. If you like Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter I reckon you would love this.

It's an average movie with a childishly predictable script and a lovely scenery, that's all.

Fantasy is even lower on my "like" list than sci-fi... :P

When I first heard about the film I knew it was right up my street, and it is: I've seen it twice in one week. Words cannot even explain how amazing it is. The plot is a tad predictable but I liked it nontheless. The effects are mindblowing, nothing looks like CGI, it all looks completely real. The time and effort and creativity that has gone in to creating Pandora and the Na'vi and their world is highly impressive. I thought the length would put me off but it doesn't feel long because it's so engrossing and because everything that is in it is necessary to the story.

This film really is going to totally change cinema, in a sense it's sort of like the Star Wars for the current generation. I would recommend it to everyone, even if you're not a sci-fi fan go see it just for the effects (3D is a must). Truly amazing. James Cameron said he's got ideas for a further two films and whether he does them or not depends on whether he makes money off Avatar (which he blatantly will) so roll on the sequels!

I think it's such a good film because obviously James Cameron took his time making the character's believable. We actually care for Na'vi and I haven't know anyone yet who has seen the film and not wanted to be a Na'vi. Its what film should be an escape to another land with other creatures. You don't want something you can see everyday in real life, you want something to capture your imagination. Thats what this film does in my opinion anyway.

I don't want to see it but will just because I'm not going to be paying for my ticket (being dragged by a friend lol)....it looks predictable and very love-mush.

Avatar was the best movie I've seen in a loonnnggg time. It had the perfect balance of everything you need in a good movie - you couldn't say in was "love-mush" because, yeah, sure, they mated and told each other their feelings and all, but a lot of humans end up doing that too. Its called a wedding. ;)
And the sci-fi vs fantasy...yeah, I loved it. Especially when Jake would like, touch them all, watching them light up, and cackling with glee...we all know we'd do that too. XD
So, Avatar....I give it the rating of MY FAVOURITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME SO FAR. Haha, that means it's an 11/10 for me. Perfect in every aspect.

if james cameron can make me love a romantic movie(titanic) than he can make me love fantasy/sci-fi(avatar), the trailer doesn't interest me since all i see is a blue humanoid, but the movie is magnificent, the world looked so real even though it's cgi, and it got sam worthington, sigourney weaver, and michelle rodriguez! i find the makeout scene hilarous, dunno why

It's amazing how people these days honestly believe good CGI = good movie, yet go on to hate movies like transformers that looked good but because they God forbid had a hot GIRL (human) in the movie it's hated, LOL.

Don't get me wrong, everyone in both movies were pretty crappy "actors" girls and guys alike. But honestly Avatar's plotline was just pathetic, unoriginal...I could actually guess each scene before it even happened, that is sad. But hey it looked pretty, lol. I guess movies like avatar and new moon are the "change" the director was talking about, no talent all looks. In new moons case it's the guys, not their silly CGI. In avatars case it's the detailed blue aliens in place of the native americans from the story they stole their plot from.

I've watched the movie today in 3D. It looks pretty good with that 3D effect and the story is good too. There are better stories but anyway...
The resemblance between the American natives and the Na'vi and how intruders made everything worse is very clear.

I went to see it finally...meh, not my cup of tea the story is so predictable it's funny, really if you remove Pandora and it's unique animals/landscape there is very little left.

It lacked substance to a painful degree. I agree, Cameron made it look absolutely stunning, but the plot was one that'd been done to the death. No realism in the characters either; they were all flat.
Amazing special effects, though. As for the floating mountains - wtf?

LOL!!! That is exactly it right there...

And same here also.. The change of mood in music was too drastic between scenes, it really was a weird mix of Pocahontas meets LOTR O__o

The film was pretty though, but that's all. Didn't move me emotionally or anything
Pretty isn't enough for me, I want solid stories that can move mountains and change lives.

I don't get the fuzz, but then again, I don't get Twilight fuzz either.
People must have really good imagination to like them, since the films really leave a lot of room for imagination.

Its due to the Unobtanium in the mts. ability to create a gravilty vortex and therefore breaking away from the ground. This all happens because of the Meissner Effect.

I did like this movie, It had a very "Dune" plot-line.

A detail I liked was that our hero was a twin. His brother lived and died among the humans. So on the spirit level he was a "bonus spirit". Earth and the spirit of the earth revived back the brother, allowing his soul to be adopted by Pandora's spirit.

very final fantasy in the look and feel, so i HAD to like it visually.

Plot also reminded me of a book by Sheri Tepper, called Grass.
http://www.infinityplus.co.uk/nonfiction/grass.htm
Very good read, the animal life cycle on the world and it's ecological system is very pandora. Just grass not jungle. Also a very spiritual theme to the plot. same "moral/ethical" outreach to the reader/viewer.

4 and a half stars. ;)

I was lucky enough to get good seats, and see it in 3D at the same time. The movie blew me away, Though yes it was a lot of CGI. The plot line... It was not so epic. You already knew what was going to happen, they just threw in suspence and loads, and Loads of CGI.

I loved it. The plot was good and the characters interesting but I think the main reason why I loved it so much was because of the world, all of it's mysteries, magic and beauty. I really wish I could go into it and explore it.

To be honest, I think this movie is not as good as I expected it to be. The plot/storyline is not something Epic. Only the effects and graphic designs are

My therapist has a plasma screen in the waiting room. I saw close to an hour of the movie while I was waiting. The way they told the story was so sappy at times that it made me wince, not that it can't be a good movie at its core. The animation, though very expensive, was too stylized and perfect to seem anywhere close to real. And the camera movement in Caca Land was always a loose panning motion to show off as much scenery as possible. This contradicted the camera work in scenes inside the science lab ( lots of still shots ), and so it was always obvious when returning to colorful Caca Land that it was all fabrication.

My deepest regret is how they showed science as the enemy and nature as the hero. I think I would have loved the movie if it were shown in the reverse context, that the Caca people are some kind of ecological terror and hateful hippie anarchists bent on destroying science and knowledge and the humans are the noble heroes studying unobtainium for ways to improve life.

The effects are certainly a feast for the eye; I was tempted to catch a little spirit in my hand at one point, you know, the ones that look a bit like dandelion seeds. The main draw of the movie would be Pandora itself, because it looks so lush and beautiful, and the Na'vi. But that is also the movie's main problem. You get so caught up just looking at the effects that the storyline becomes secondary. The plot is a shameless rip-off of a movie with Native Americans as well as Pochahontas, which I will not name because if I did, it would pretty much give away what will happen in 'Avatar' to anyone who still wants to see it. There is almost no detail, big or small, in the movie that was not taken from something else. I am really surprised that Cameron has not been served with multiple plagiarism lawsuits. Cameron certainly knows how to use emotional manipulation effectively, but, like 'Titanic', there is little to no substance to back it up.

One thing I will say is that even though the script was terrible, Cameron deserves some credit for not using big Hollywood brand actors in the lead roles. The score was also very beautiful. I really wanted to like this movie, because a really good sci-fi movie can be hard to find lately, but I just can't. The incredible lack of originality, even by current Hollywood standards, is unworthy of praise.
