I need help with subsets

Hi everyone...I recently started meshing. So far I only cloned from objects with one subset. I was trying to clone a bookshelf and couldnt get it to work because of the subset ( the books). How do I do this?
Can I just delete the books? Do I have to mesh the books into something else? I am pretty lost right now, so I would appreciate any help :)

Well if you want the books to stay, and be recolorable, then you won't be able to have another subset that is recolorable. If you delete or replace the books mesh with something else, then the bookshelf would still be usable as a bookshelf.

Not all bookshelves have the books texture included since they are repository linked to one of the base game ones, but you can create a new subset and add a texture to your package and get rid of the linking. Try this tutorial by Ignorant Bliss.
