I honestly haven't gone around to much Sims lately, but I wanted to know if the EP's make the game any better. I'm waiting for more CC to become available so that I can have more fun when playing the game. :)

Yeah, you should! :D 10000% !!
The game itself gets a little boring after a while ( my opinion ) and the new EP's really spice it up a bit... Plus there are all the new things (make-up,furniture,...)
I would say that you should definetlly buy them :)

World Adventures is really fun! I especially like the problem solving when in Tombs and stuff! Plus you always get new objects and designs with expansions packs, it really is up to you if you want to spend the money on it though. =)

WA didn't impress me at all, but it's your money

World Adventures is fun. Adds some unique elements to Sims 3. One of the ones I enjoy is the whole tomb system.

Depending on your playstyle though, it could add something to your game or really just make you wish you saved the money for Ambitions.

WA, as I mentioned before, introduces a tomb system with puzzles, traps, treasure and mummies. Your Sim can either die from the curse of the mummy, or sleep in a special sarcophagus to become a playable mummy. Neither of which i've done. But I have enjoyed exploring tombs and collecting treasures. There is also a way to create tombs, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

There are more fruits available for gardening and foods available for cooks. More "fish" for fishermen (frogs, snails, mummyfish, etc) and a few new skills. One of which that ties into the fruits... nectar making (wine making).

WA also introduces a basement system, so you don't have to go through the whole process of hollowing out your foundation to make a basement level. Also the basement system allows for 4 levels of basement and consequently 4 levels of tomb exploration.

In summation: If you're looking for something for your Sims to do, it's a good pick.

Should you get them? Probably. Should you PURCHASE them? I wouldn't advise it. It's awfully expensive, and much of the content has been cut to be resold separately. Sucker someone else, preferrably someone you don't like very much, into buying it, or whatever.

I say get them. If you're looking for more fun and entertainment, I don't see any reason not to buy it, especially if you can afford it.

Depends on your playing style -- I loved WA because it's like an RPG/adventure game without having to "kill" stupid monsters that respawn every 5 seconds. I liked the various challenges of the tombs and the different vacation locales. Replay value on the tombs isn't all that high, but it was a LOT of hours worth of game play to get thru' them all the first time, much more than some Play Station or X-Box games I've bought. Totally worth the price, for me.

HELS ??? IMO, not completely worth it, I bought it mainly for the big fish tank ... depends on if you really like that "mod" look in furniture and how much "extra" cash you have to spend.

I personaly don't like WA, but Ambitions looks like it has a chance of being good. If you do get WA get it on Amazon or Ebay for about $20 or so.

I have found that some of the expansion packs for some of the Sims products are pretty good. Others are pretty worthless. Some like Pets and Seasons never excited me that much. I used Open for Business, Freetime and Nightlife all the time. Bon Voyage and University were rather lame, but I did use them enough to justify the purchase.

World Adventures is a definite winner. When you consider the cost of going to a movie, or even renting one, eating out, going skiing or many other entertainment activities, you will get more hours of enjoyment per hour than with just about any other activity. I have spent lots of time exploring the new worlds. In fact, my sims typically spend more time on adventures than at home. Besides, it may be the only computer game where you can have platinum blonde bimbos exploring tombs in skimpy bikinis. (Macho women with guns!)

Unlike some, I would advise against being a cheap@$$. Projects like this represent a major investment by EA, and they will not produce expansions if they do not make money on this. Piracy can not only kill a game, but entire game platforms as well. If you have not noticed, the number of PC games is dramatically less than it was 10 to 20 years ago -- the PC is a dying game platform. The Sims is one of the few games still being produced for the PC. Also, when piracy is rampant, you get more copy protection schemes, like SecureRom. It really does not cost that much.

I would definitely say buy it. WA is lots of fun. The tomb exploring aspect is extremely entertaining, some are quite tricky, some easier. The scenario in all worlds (specially China) is breath taking.

I never liked BV's vacation part, I liked aspects of it, like swimming in the sea, taking sun, digging holes and all the things you could do in the beach, and BV also did have one of my favorite objects, the tea set. But the vacation part was boring, going on tour was pointless, the souvenirs were not worth the simoleans you brought them for, the lots EA built were ugly, boring and badly built. After trying out room service one or two times, I never used it, on the rare occasions I had my Sims going on a vacation I only stayed one night because it was just no fun.

WA is different. Even if you don't use the tomb exploring aspect, going on a vacation is fun. I built my Sims hotels by transferring normal houses to community lots, then modifying them to my needs. Sure they will not have room service or other hotel personnel, but those people were useless npc anyway and trust me you Will not miss them. For food I use the buffet table, which will mean that eating cost's money and that's great considering it's a like that on a real vacation also. If you want the hotel to have other customers, then make it the base camp, or if you want it to be a more private hotel, then have it as a normal visitors allowed community lot. I'm actually looking forward to Ambition to expand on the fun aspects of WA. I'm really looking forward to the ability to put a lot in any place I choose to. this way I can modify destination towns more, and instead of then having to put my hotels where they fit, I can put them where it work's the best. I also recommend putting a copy of all the tombs in the library, so if you ever want to re-play a tomb, you can.

The PC will never die as a game platform simply because they are so ubiquitous. If the "AAA" players drop out, that just means someone else, someone willing to produce innovative properties that are not rehashed sequels of existing IPs, will fill the void.

Perhaps I just remember my experience with the Atari ST. It was a great computer, and GEM was a much better operating system than Windows at the time. (Windows is a memory hog. Fortuneately for us, memory is now very cheap.) In any case, rampant piracy pretty much killed the Atari ST as a platform. Developers simply did not want to produce software for it because as soon as they did, it was all over the pirate boards.

I can also remember going into computer stores and picking up new games every week. There were aisles of PC games. Now, those stores and aisles are gone. The PC sections at Walmart, Target and Best Buy continue to shrink.

Part of it is that the kids want their X-boxes, Wii's and Playstations. Many of them do not even look at the PC games, even though the PC games are much more versatile (and more easily hacked).

Console games are also able to be hacked. Don't think PC's stand alone here.

Many PS3 and Xbox hackers will either have a spare box specifically to play downloaded games (as those consoles have been banned from their respective online networks) or simply just sacrifice online accessibility for free games.

It is easier to hack a PC game, but consoles are not excluded from the hacked games category.

PC Game sales are less because consoles have stepped up their game a lot in the past 10 years. While consoles aren't on par with the technology of a PC, they offer a gaming platform out of the box with companies dedicated to providing entertainment for years.

Piracy digression aside...

It never hurts to do as much research on expansion packs as possible before you buy, so you don't end up with buyers remorse.

Personally, i'd recommend World Adventures for people who play the game. But not for those who just like to build houses and so forth.

I'd recommend High End Loft Stuff for people who really just focus on building houses. But that's usually who the stuff packs aim for anyway.

I can still remember someone on a Sega Genesis messageboard attempting to make that argument. I wonder where that guy is now

question are sims 3 base game mods compatible with wa

Depends.

Any kind of mod/hack probably isn't going to be due to the fact that any expansion that changes how the core game works (for example all the neat stuff that WA does) means that mods typically need to be tweaked to work. Stuff packs, like High End Loft Stuff, usually don't have the same issue. I say usually because that's how Sims 2 worked. Sims 3 seems to have changed it up by making their "stuff" pack the latest version also. But it really didn't change any core gameplay. Just added junk (literally).

Modders though are pretty good about keeping up to date with game versions, so chances are it won't be an issue if you get World Adventures. However it's up to the modder to update their mod to work with whatever latest version/expansion/whatever

So yes, the mods you have for the base Sims 3 game probably have an update to work with World Adventures and/or High End Loft Stuff. The operative word though, is probably.
