Okay, so I followed the directions Modsthesims has. How many times? Three going on four. Each time I uninstalled the game and started fresh from the begining. NOTHING. WORKS.

- Finally when I was sure I FINALLY got everything right, guess what? An error pops up on the starting menu. What the cracker licking fudge money!? :wtf:

I installed everything I was suppose to when I was suppose to and followed the directions down to the end. So why doesn't it work? Hmm? So what am I suppose to do now? "Oh! Look! Something amazing- Oh. Wait. It's a .package file. I can't put it on my Sims 3 game, because I'm too retarded to follow step by step directions."

So will anyone help me? :cry:

I doubt the error says "What the cracker licking fudge monkey" - what does the error say?

What EPs do you have? What patch version do you have?

I don't have any Expansion Packs or Stuff Packs, and right now I'm in the process of reinstalling the game. The error said, " There was an error on startup. Please see the log for more details." I was told to download a Sims 3 error repair tool. ( http://www.fixerroreasy.com/ttfix-sims_3_error-zz0001 ) And that didn't work...

Yeah, a utility like that is a Bad Idea - usually full of viruses and won't fix your problems.

If you're still having the issues once you've reinstalled...

Open up Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and there'll be some .txt files (Text Documents) in there - one will have the current date (when it crashed). Open the file and copy-paste its contents into a post on this thread.

It just finished installing (Well it's downloading an update), but everything seems to be working fine. Should I just try the Modthesims diretions again? Or will the error on the start up menu come back?

I'm having a lot of trouble with the custom content too. Some of it shows up, but the /mods/packages folder doesn't exist! I put some things in the Downloads folder in My Documents and ran it through the (incredibly slow) game installer, and some of those show up. I can't seem to find ANYTHING about what to do when you don't have that folder. Should I make it? Why don't I have it? I'm running Windows Vista, is that why? Help!

Kitter Katters - First, go ahead and patch and get your game running - load it up vanilla (no custom content) before trying to do anything else. Verify that works okay. Then try ONE mod at first, installed this way: http://www.modthesims.info/announcement.php?f=551&announcementid=144 ... I'd suggest trying to test with my "no build sparklies" mod as it's guaranteed not to conflict and is a very simple, easy, quick test.

madfishmonger - Please create your own thread about your issues, so we can help you one-on-one and not get this thread cluttered up with issues that may or may not have the same cause.

Um... okay. I'll try, but I'm not sure I understand the whole patch thing... I understand what it is- Er... I'll just read through the thing. @3@;

Basically, the new patch means that the game itself is okay with you using mods - it has a system for using .package format mods that it didn't before, and they get put in a bit of a different place. Before we kind of had to force the game to use mods even though it didn't really want to - now it wants to, and you just have to play along with what it needs. Good luck! :)

... So I'm now (already) confused. Where do I get the Patch at?

{{ Also, here soon I have to start getting ready to leave. I have an Orthodontist appointment. }}

When you run the launcher and update, that's patching. :)

So, it does my game is up to date.... does that mean I'm done patching? @3@;

Yep, should do. Double-check the version that shows at the bottom left of the Launcher. Should be 1.12 if you just have the base game, I think. Just run your game and plink around in it for a few minutes (load a lot or something, whatever) to verify that it's working okay without mods. Then try setting up the mods as it says on that link I gave ya, and just put in one safe file (like my no build sparklies) and load up and test that. If it works that way, you know you're good to go, mods-wise, and can download more stuff - and if you have problems after that, it's because of bad mods, rather than bad install, bad patch, or bad mods folder setup.

Well it's working okay without the mods...

*Ahem* ... Well here's some interesting news. I noticed some things were missing when I had the game pulled up... Well long story short the Custom Content worked before... it just wasn't labeled as Custom Content. (Most likely because I 'installed' it to the game...) ^.^;;; But thank you for all your help! Hopefully I can get it working again...
