View Full Version : Problem with gems

Hi, I seem to have a serious problem with gems since installing ambitions.. Any travel with uncut gems, turns them blue after I put them 'in the world' on a surface.
Or, saving and loading a lot turns them blue.
And now I just found out that since the latest patch, saving and loading a *lot* with *cut* gems also resets them all to emerald(?) prices, reguardless of the cut.
Any ideas? or confirmations im not the only one?

They turn blue eh? Sounds like a CC issue. You have anything that touches gems at all?

Yeah, I think that bug is fixed in AwesomeMod.

Nope, tryed it with 0 CC at all. (Disabled mods folder, Started new game, made sim, found gem, traveled, bluegem. Started new game, made sim, found gem, exported lot, imported lot, blue gem)
Don't really use awsomemod anymore -_-;
<edit>
Just tryed awsomemod.. just incase
It *does* fix the blue uncut gem problem
It does *not* fix the 'All gem cuts worth the same amount of money after export/import problem
Ie: a heart cut pink diamond is now worth the exact same (+- a few bucks for the diffrence in weight beween gems) as an emerald cut gem -_-;
also tryed installing awsomemod, creating gems and then exporting/importing, Still did'nt fix them.
Doh, Just noticed: refine metals also now are glitched, they reset to unrefined prices after an export/import -_-;
PS: by 'turns blue' I mean they turn into the same as a blue color gem, Not into a 'solid blue' object or error.

Yeah. I recall reading over at MATY that EA somehow borked the gems and metals. Has something to do with their weights and EA setting them to a negative weight which ended up reducing their values across the board. Or something like that.
It's kind of sad, really. I always laughed when I saw how people (namely Pescado) said you really NEED awesomemod to play sims.
Now it's less of a joke and becomes more of a necessity with each "fix" EA introduces. Really, I'd hate to think of what would happen to my sims legacy game without it.

Well, the good news:
EA fixed the mass of metals apparently..
Bad news:
EA now borked the *value* of metals.
Good news:
Awsomemod seems to be evolving very quickly to fix this glitch. YAY FOR AWSOMEMOD!

Gem/Metal weight/cost issues should be entirely fixed now, including retroactively if you fixall.
It's kind of sad, really. I always laughed when I saw how people (namely Pescado) said you really NEED awesomemod to play sims.That's not really a joke. When you've actually seen the code, you realize how deeply broken it is, and every game without is a ticking time bomb, just waiting for something horrible, and likely irreversible, to happen to the sims you care about.
Now it's less of a joke and becomes more of a necessity with each "fix" EA introduces. Really, I'd hate to think of what would happen to my sims legacy game without it.It was never a joke. These bugs really are very heinous and there is absolutely no other workaround for many of them.

And if you take a look at the vanilla base game, I'd say it's safe to say that the devs don't operate on the assumption that players care for their sims.

Heh.. Iv been playing the same 'family' since sims came out.. Been very careful not to let it corrupt my game. .excessively...
Well, that and exporting/importing the lot into a new world every few sim weeks REALLY helps, even if I do lose all sim relationships.
My first world got so unstable, I was lucky if I could play 15 mins before a crash, And saving a second time almost allways corrupted the save.. So now I have a tendency to save as new filename, quit, reload every 15~20 mins. Seems to seriously reduce my corrupt saves. Was stable as a rock last time for 3 whole simweeks. Then my 'house' icon on the loadgame screen started disappearing.. And after previous experiance with that signaling impending worse corruption, I quickly exported/imported my lot into a new world.
Its kinda fun moving around from world to world though! Been to riverview, twinbrook, Venice lagoon world..

From a casual sim player's point of view, it's kind of silly to think that you would need a modification to make the game playable. I mean, really. It is.
But the more you invest time into researching what all AwesomeMod actually FIXES, you're right. Really, the joke is on people who don't use AwesomeMod and end up posting in these forums about something terrible that happened to their sims. Then when the solution is provided to them (awesomemod) they cross their arms and shake their heads, stating they don't NEED it.
I didn't think I needed it either. Til my game decided to disappear half my town, then made my sim family an unwilling owner of a chinese baby. Not to mention how badly the EA story progression raped my planted families.
I made similiarities of my wife and I, stuck us in a house. My wife mysteriously died/disappeared/poof'd. Then I miraculously had a baby all on my own. Then we both died of old age.
Either that or my wife's sim decided to move to France, got pregnant and decided to pawn him off on me.
Both are likely scenarios.
In any case, I didn't mean to imply that AM is a joke. It really isn't. But the fact that EA couldn't really release a game without detrimental flaws is.

I think the only joke is that EA has not hired Pescado to fix thier buged up games. Maybe then we'd get some patchs that actualy fix more things then they break.

I agree.
But we both know they couldn't afford him.

Pescado has my extreme gratitude for awesomemod!
However, my uncut gems still turn blue when placed on a lot. I love to collect gems and place them around my garden and house uncut but am not happy about all of them being blue. I would love for my amethysts to be purple and my emeralds to be green. I have the current version of awesomemod in my game. Is there something in aweconfig that I should change? Am I the only one still having this problem and has anyone found a fix? Thank so much.

Divine45, is your game fully patched? This thread is over a year old, so the information in it is not current.

Divine45, is your game fully patched? This thread is over a year old, so the information in it is not current.But unfortunately still valid, I fear. At least it was when I last played two weeks ago. Uncut gems that are either moved between worlds via travel or via Edit Town will revert to blue when placed outside of any inventory. AwesomeMod fixes their values but gems are nevertheless still broken.
In my case it was a Pink Diamond that was on a lot after one of those move-in scenarios. It turned blue after I had placed that lot in another world and the diamond in question did not stack in inventories with other Pink Diamonds my Sims had got after that transfer. Broken, uncut gems also do not register as their originals for certain opportunities where you have to hand in uncut gems.

Thank you Simsample and babele44.
"But unfortunately still valid, I fear." *sigh*...darn
I guess my current solution is to cut all gems I bring home from travel and to not move my uncut gem loving sims into houses that were moved. I will put a bunch of great gems around my hometown for my sim to collect and live in originally placed homes or build from scratch for sims that want uncut gems beautifying their space. I will have to see if they work correctly in homes that I build onto lots I added into a world via edit town, using uncut gems gathered in my hometown world.
My condolences bable44 on your loss of your Pink Diamonds.

Every save game is a bomb waiting to explode. After some sim weeks, it's faded to break. With AM and Overwatch, you can actually play it without having to start over after some time.

Hi. Sorry to awaken such an old thread, but I was wondering if the bug which turns the uncut gems blue is fixable? Does Twallan's Traveler or Awesome mod fix/prevent this bug? I've googled around, but I can't find anything.
