How do you make thinner stubble?

How do you lighten Stubble in Sims 3? i know you can change the color but everytime I lighten the color my black haired sims stubble turns wight... What stubble for brown and black hair?

I lighten the stubble by making either or both the Root and Base colors the same as the skin tone. It takes a little experimenting. It's how I gave the mafia guy in my avatar a light 5 o'clock shadow.
