Hi everyoneI hope I have put this the the correct area as I do not know what the others mean!

I hope some of you can help me, I have been playing The Sims games from the beginning and love the franchise but have always been facinated (spl?) about making my own custom content, I have had a look and to be honest alot of it confuses me, like it says about DDS and lots of other things that I need, but get all confused about extactly what I need to make custom objects, hair etc and was hoping someone could in a clear way tell me what I need and where to get it, and point me in the direction of a very simple tutorial, I am not technically minded and get confused with alot of things hehe I hope I am not coming off dumb or anything!

Thanks

If you are new to creating mods, then I recommend TSR Workshop, but it has some downsides to it. I mainly use it just for cloning as it has an excellent User Interface.

You can also use S3PE and S3OC (Windows based) and Postal (Java). I like them a lot better then TSR Workshop.

To create other mods for Sims 3, check out the Program and Utilities under the Create section. For meshes you can use Milkshape (Free trial for 30 days I think it is, 25$), Blender (Free), Maya (expensive), ect.

For a tutorial, it really depends on what you want to create. There is no tutorial that can explain everything. Some you will have to learn as you go.

For tutorials see: http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:Modding

Sometimes it takes a while do something. It takes multiple tries to get a working object, even if it's not your first.

Thanks for the info. still confusing but I am sure I will get there, I have downloaded Milkshape but cant find where to get S3PE or S3OC from, looked at the tutorials and it gives links to them but when I press them it just comes up with "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find www.modthesims.info
Suggestions:
•Try reloading the page
•Search on Google:"

So I have refreshed and still the same and searched on google and it obviously gives listings for it but again when I press on them the same message comes up! Not sure why! I will look for the others and see.

You can find both here:

and workshop can be found with a quick google search.

thanks, might just give up though as i have had a look at all the tutorials and they are all still very unclear and confusing, :( Like I said I am not technically minded, was really hoping for one thats very basic like press this and press that, not bombarding me with things I don't understand and thats just trying to set all the S3PE, S3OC,Gimp photoshop etc etc with each other and the game.

Thanks anyway

S3pe and s3oc should have a version that will essentially install each of them itself...you shouldn't have to do much more than click through the boxes that pop up.

The easiest object to start with would be a painting. I wrote a step by step tutorial on how to change the image of an EA painting that is quite simple and will introduce you to those two tools. If you're at all interested in trying your hand at this and are intimidated by the object tutorial my suggestion is to try the painting one. It's in the meshing tutorials section.

Before anything, I'd first start with doing re-colors since those are the easiest. Like orangemitten's suggested, make a painting. That's the most easiest way in my opinion. Using Object Cloner, you just need to select an object you want to clone, click clone, and then hit create. Orangemitten's guide is found here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=392299

Starter Manual (http://www.thesimsresource.com/tutorials/view/category/sims3/id/16590/tsr-workshop--an-a-z-manual) (which will mention Beginner's Guide to Meshing (http://www.thesimsresource.com/tutorials/view/category/sims3/id/16544/object-creation-part-1%3A-the-beginners-guide-to-meshing) and Object Textures (http://www.thesimsresource.com/tutorials/view/category/sims3/id/16543/object-creation-part-2%3A-object-textures))

Everything else you might have questions about (http://www.thesimsresource.com/resources/view/category/creating-meshing/id/90/)

Once you want to get into serious modding, then you can consider S3PE and S3OC. :)

Yeah, s3pe works as a plugin to TSR workshop also, so you can do a project using both, for whichever bits they each do more easily.
