Okay, I am building a house and I am trying SO hard to give the deck of the house a roof but I can't seem to figure it out.. at all.

This is what I mean:

See the roof over the deck? I've seen it on houses in the sims 2 before but could NEVER figure it out. Can someone please help? This is bugging the crap out of me because I've already built the whole house. It's just the deck giving me trouble and it looks stupid without it.

I am just curious and will ask what might be a dumb question: Do you mean the front porch? and Have you put in posts/support poles?
I don't think the game will let you use a fence even if it comes up to the roof line. I could be wrong. Hope you can get the help you need.

If you want to use a fence, build walls there first and place the roof. You can replace the walls with the fence then.

Yeah I mean the front porch. Like you see how there is a roof in the picture on the porch? I want to do that but am having an extremely hard time.

@arathea, the roof will stay after I move the walls?

Yes, you only need the walls to build the roof, if you remove the walls, the roof will float in the air but nothing else will happen.

You can just stick some pillars on the porch temporarily, enough that you get the "ghost tiles" covering the level above all over the area you want to roof over. Then add the roof, and delete the pillars. You can put in fencing down below then, and use moveobjects to place specific pillars whereever you want them. The roof will stay just fine that way - a lot of tricks in building interesting shapes in TS2/TS3 involve temporary structures to allow you to build what you want, that then get deleted once you're done.

In addition to support, you are going to have problems with "Can not intersect Objects" error (or something like that). The game will not let you build a roof right up to a windowed wall. Some solutions:

-Remove the windows. Build roof. Replace windows with "move_objects" on cheat. This options sometimes gives funky views in the neighborhood view.
-Do not drag roof all the way to the wall, leave an empty tile. This option often looks funky from all but a few angles ... however, since in actual play, most people play without the roof visible, so if the house is more for playing than looking, it is easy to ignore.
-Use a roof-looking object. Unfortunately, the objects never exactly match the roofs and sometimes the size just doesn't fit your house.
