View Full Version : Carter's Display Case different with Ambitions?

I just did some really extensive testing on making large ingots with something stacked on top of the upper left one.

I don't know how many times I've put 8 platinums on and a mercury on the upper left and got a large supernovium ingot (lots of $$) and a large platinum. I tested that I could put anything on top and get that supernovium.

Now I started fresh after installing Ambitions. I want to make my sims some money to build their house. They just got back from China and have a lot of metal from there.

The platinum transfiguration is producing a large compendium (worth only about 1/7 of what I expected from the large supernovium).

I did a silver transfiguration - 9 pieces of silver, and got a large Plutonium. That never happened before, silver gave iron, and sometimes a bonus of a third large ingot which was Titanium.

I just can't imagine what is going on.

I also can't be 100% sure it was ambitions, because I just updated my game, but really, who would think a patch would change the outcome of transfigurations.

I can't really find any good guides to large ingot transfigurations either. Carl's guide says to use 11 pieces of platinum, and just a few days ago I did the trick with 8 platinums and an iron. The guide on this site really doesn't go into what you can get when making large ingots and stacking.

The sims main site is down for maintenance more often than not, but I posted on page 18 of this thread, if you want to see what I found out before I got Ambitions.

My list of Large Ingot transfigurations from The Sims 3 forum (http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/255/132219.page)

Let me know if you also see differences in how the display works. Or what might make my sims some money.

They have platinum, mercury, gold and silver. I guess they could make some large plutonium ingots from the silver.

It's day one in Twinbrook so I really doubt anyone is going to find any metal laying around. Unless that has changed in Ambitions and the spawners work before 5pm the first day....

I could send other members of the family off to adventure in another country. Well, one anyway. I doubt the kids can travel without an adult. Maybe tomorrow the kids can go as teenagers (I'm playing the Funke's).

Thanks for your input!!!

I've only just installed Ambitions, but I can certainly say that behaviour isn't what I've encountered with World Adventures plus High End Living Stuff pack! I always use the small Carter's Display Case because the large one is too big to fit in any of my sims' houses. As far as I was aware, the only difference is that you need to have all 10 slots filled on the small one before the Transfigure option appears, whereas the large case only needs 8 slots filled - but perhaps there's more of a difference? I've certainly never seen large ingots appearing from anything except for a case filled with ingots of the same type - and I haven't been able to obtain a large mercury at all, I thought it was impossible!

What patch level were you on before? I can easily imagine a patch changing the outcome of transfigurations, if the game designers realised there was a bug that was too easy to exploit.

I really don't know what patch I used to be on.

I know I installed one a few weeks ago that was such a disaster I reinstalled my game.

I guess I should uninstall, and reinstall, with patches, but no ambitions and see what happens. Like I'm really that much of a geek.

In any case it seems like I'll have to deal with the new results. I can't honestly call them a "bug".

Now, how do I make a thing that allows people to buy ingots of metal, or cut gems for that matter, so I could make testing of this thing easier???

Did anybody already make a metal buyer? I can't see it.

I know there are spawners, but that really isn't that quick....

This is about large ingots from the LARGE Carter's Case - the small Carter's case doesn't behave the same, so get the large one or forget this info.

Always put 8 pieces of the same metal on the case. Stack one ingot of a different (or another of the same) on one - I always used the top left ingot.

I don't think it makes a difference whether you put in regular sized or large ingots. However, using large ingots is pretty much a waste of money.

I used one large ingot on my mercury tests, with 7 regular mercury vials. I don't know how else to "stack" mercury. It was probably a waste of money as the large mercury ingot can be a big or small waste of money to make.

By the way, as for VALUE of the ingots, I think it's relatively random. But of course a large Platinum ingot is by and large going to be worth more than a large Iron ingot and less than a large Plutonium ingot.

Here's what you get:

You ALWAYS get a large ingot of the type of metal that you put 8 pieces of in (and on the bottom of that one stack, of course).

You always get "one extra thing" no matter what was stacked. With some things you get a third ingot.

Also you get:

Woohooium: Plutonium

Titanium: Platinum. You also get a large Plutonium if you stack Supernovium, Compendium, Mummitomium or Plutonium.

Iridium: Platinum. You also get a large Mummitomium if you stack Supernovium, Compendium, Mummitomium or Plutonium.

Supernovium: Iridium. You also get a large Compendium if you stack Woohooium, Titanium, Supernovium, Compendium, Mummitomium or Plutonium.

Compendium: Gold. Woohooium, Supernovium, Mummitomium, Plutonium and Palladium give 2 golds. Mummitomium and Plutonium also give a Mummitomium.

Mercury: Platinum. Supernovium, Mummitomium and Plutonium also give Mummitomium and Iron.

Platinum: Compendium

Copper: Iron In most cases also Mummitomium. However, Copper, Iron and Silver only give the large Iron.

Mummitomium: Mummitomium (you get 2 ingots).

Plutonium: Gold. For Supernovium, Mummitomium, Plutonium and Palladium also an extra Plutonium.

Gold: Platinum and Iron in most cases. Except Copper, Iron and Silver which do not give a Platinum. And with Supernovium, Mummitomium and Plutonium also a large Plutonium.

Palladium: Iridium. With Woohooium, Supernovium, Mummitomium or Plutonium you also get Compendium.

Iron: Iridium. With Woohooium, Supernovium, Mummitomium or Plutonium you also get Plutonium.

Silver: Plutonium.

An interesting note is what happens when Supernovium is put on top. It tends to inflate the value of the bottom ingot.

For instance, if you were interested in making a large copper ingot worth A LOT - out of range for copper, you could stack a valuable supernovium on it. It seemed like this worked with compendium before this whole Ambitions/patch change, but now I'm not really seeing it.

Some metals respond better to gaining value from Supernovium. Here's my notes on gaining value from Supernovium (this is just about the gain in the value of the large bottom ingot).

Woohooium: A nice gain, it's own value plus the Supernovium.
Titanium: A modest gain, maybe get half the Supernovium added on.
Iridium: A nice gain.
Mercury: A nice gain.
Platinum: A nice gain.
Copper: Pretty good gain. With an 82K Supernovium, it was worth 80K.
Mummitomium: Pretty good gain, a large mumm plus large super worth 95K went to 92K.
Plutonium: Pretty good again, went from 80K to 77K
Gold: A nice gain
Palladium: A nice gain
Iron: A nice gain
Silver: A nice gain.

Now, sometimes I stacked large ingots whereas I used regular sized ingots in the rest of the spaces for this Supernovium tops it test. It made it easier to see what that would be worth.

You don't make money with that supernovium stack trick. You simply make a piece of metal that is worth more than it's normal range. It could make you money if you are turning in copper for an adventure though....

Compendium might give a rise as well, but I'm getting a little tired of testing it.

Maybe I'll come back another day and comment on whether you can (still) make a 6 billion simoleans piece of copper with stacking with compendium on top. You used to be able to....

The behaviour of the display case with metals certainly changed with Ambitions. What I ran into was a bug when I tried to transfigure with a ninth ingot. The ingots would pile to the ceiling and the game would hang.

Maybe that's been stealth-fixed in a patch... doesn't sound like you ran into that problem.
