View Full Version : Firefighter profession+Daredevil trait = no fire extinguisher?

I've played firefighters but never had this problem before.
I usually give them the following trait set:
Daredevil
Athletic
Brave

And then I throw in two random traits depending on the kind of sims I want them to be.
Today, I created a single dad and made him a firefighter. He studied hard and learned all his skills, and was quickly promoted, all on his first day! (I may or may not have cheated.)
But on his SECOND day, he had the opportunity to respond to a real emergency: a large house fire. I ran him to the lot, had him extinguish window fires and break open doors (has anyone else noticed the cute little hacking axe animations on doors you have to break open? I didn't either, until today! New?) and then I get him into the lot, convince the sims to run, and then I click on the fire to have him extinguish it, AND......I get "No interactions Available."

Huh. So I tried a fire in another room. Maybe there were things I had to do before I could extinguish the fire. Nope, nothing. He didn't have an extinguisher in his backpack, and the only option I had to extinguish these fires was to smash the item: when it gets burned and is destroyed, you can smash it and it puts out the fire. So I tackled the kitchen fire that way (by destruction, mwahahahaha) and then made him stand by the living room fire in the hopes that he would extinguish it autonomously. Again, nothing. He just stood there for 15 hours (yeah, 15 hours - I failed that job).
So, I reset the situation the only way I knew how: I got him another job. The fire vanished, he went back home, and all was well. But I really wanted to figure out what happened, so I had him become a firefighter again. Before he went to work, I clicked on him and noticed I could upgrade his extinguisher! I thought that would solve the problem.
Nope.
The next day, he was on the 5th or 6th tier of the firefighter profession and answered two emergencies - a crazy air conditioner at City Hall, and another large house fire at the other end of town. He got to the large house fire and it was the same story: window fires, extinguishable by hose: awesome. Doors breakable, with cute little axe animations to boot: success. Sims escortable: everyone out safely. Fires: nuh uh. :faceslap:
I currently have no fire mods whatsoever: none of the mods, hacks, or downloadable content I use is any way, shape or form related to fire, the firefighter profession, reactions to fire, etc. Is this a problem others are having?
I save/quit my game out of frustration and took a shower, when it occurred to me that it might be his trait. I've given another successful firefighter that same trait set before (paired with good and friendly) and had NO problems, none. I have not yet had the chance to go back in game and remove the trait to see if that fixes it. He's in the burning house right now, so it won't take long to test lol.
Please, let me know if you've seen this issue, oh fellow simmers!

Have you tried resetting the him?

Even though your mods aren't fire related they still could be the cause of your problem. Did you install any of them after you played your other firefighters but before you played this one? Try taking your mods out (and clearing the caches) to see if it makes any difference.

The only other thing I can think of is there could be something like another external window fire that you can't see or another door you need to smash. Maybe one of your mods is stopping that animation from being visible?

maybe fate is telling you he wasn't meant to be a firefighter.

no, but you should try what simbalena said. it should fix it. otherwise your game has a bug.

I have a Firefighter Sim with the same traits and experienced the same thing in my game. To fix it I had to have him quit the profession and then rejoin. I use Awesome Mod alongside a few of Twallan's mod so I also reset the Firestation lot and the Sim for good measure. One or all of those things fixed the issue for me.

Good luck. :)

The weirdest thing happened: I simply restarted the game, and lo and behold, everything worked fine! Maybe it was just a temporary glitch or something.
I now have mods to make fires happen more often, and so far everything is working beautifully. Thanks for the help, though, guys! <3
