ContentPatch file? (What is this?)

After the latest patch, there's a ContentPatch file...( I don't believe I had this before the latest patch...)

C:\Users\******\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\ContentPatch\Download

I just like to know what it is.

Would anyone please care to explain this to me?
