I'm building a mansion with a basement and foundation. I had 2 problems. The left staircase sits where I want it, the right one is wrong. I have built around the problem now. I just wanted to know if you have the same experience.

1. I don't know if this is true, but I have noticed that building staircases on ground where I had a basement earlier does not work. I had to undo what I have done, and then build the staircase to the basement on untouched ground. The foundation is even 4 or 5 tiles away from the staircase down, but it's still complaining about "can't build in a foundation". This is the problem I had when trying to put stairs down to the basement to have an opening there. That's the same place I have the foundation in the first picture, whitch I removed of cause before. Removing it wasn't good enough, I had to undo it all.

2. The left staircase sits where I want it, the right one is wrong. The staircases was suppose to go opposite each other, is that not possible? I couldn't place the right side staircase just a tile further back. I had lots of troubles just finding a spot for it. I believe I even tried to demolish the left staircase and only build the right one. I could build the right one the same direction as the left though, but that was not what I wanted.

This is about what I wanted just with the right side staircase opposite of the left one:

To place stairs into basements you need the height of the floor above it (whether you actually have a floor there or not) to be a normal room height or greater.

This is why you can't build where you previously placed basement as the floor is still at basement height. Its a simple solution to build a room with normal wall tool one square around where you want the stairs to be and this will "reset" the height of the room and it wont give you the "can't build in foundation" error any more! :)

Hope that helps/was clear
