This is perhaps a problem with the CD/DVD drive of your computer. My MacBook Pro has developed the same issue over time. When I put in a disk chances are it a) reads it b) says it's an empty disk c) says it's a format it cannot read d) just ejects the disk e) doesn't do anything and the disk gets stuck in the drive.
Do other disks work or is it only The Sims? What are your computer specifications?

Would you please stop multiposting in separate sections. Making me see double, and I could have sworn I did not drink that much!

So, are you having a PC or MAC OSX machine?
1. Try the game disc on another machine. Can the disc be recognized?
2. Try another DVD on your machine - movie or another game. Can the disc be recognized?

Try the suggestions in Game Help:Install to clean the disk.

Thread moved to general section, out of Mac OSX.
