I've looked through the site/forum and haven't found an answer to my .package problem:

I am running all Sims 3 expansion packs and I cannot get my .package files to work. In fact, when I put the Mods folder in my Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder, the game only shows up as a black screen. I don't get a loading screen, no intro, etc. If I remove the Mods folder, the game works fine.

Any ideas?

The game is reading your .package files, but you have one or more mods in there which is/are either incompatible with your patch version, or with another mod. In particular, make sure that you don't have more than one core mod installed.

Oh... so what is the best way for me to check this?

I have all the Sims 3 expansion packs installed. I've updated them all and made sure they are all patched. When I try to play the game, it loads to a black screen an error. If I click "Yes", the game just quits. If I click "No", the game will still load and I can usually play for quite awhile before the game crashes suddenly, usually in build/buy mode.

I think some of my installed CC might be the cause of the crashing, I'm not sure though. I don't know if the error I'm getting is causing the game to crash/not work properly and what I can do about it.

I also tried to build a super modern house using some of the split-level tutorials I found here, but my Sim keeps telling me it's "too dark" in the rooms. Meanwhile, I've made the rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows!

Do you think all of my problems stem from one main problem? ie. the error message I keep getting.

I would appreciate some help/thoughts/opinions! I will update soon with a screenshot of the crash screen and the bug error I get when the game crashes ASAP.

Sims 3 - Game Problems
For generic game related issues, please see this FAQ:

Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem
Try each of the steps listed to either solve the problem or rule out Custom Content as the cause.

Sims 3 - Incompatible CC
Every time you patch or install a new EP, most of your hacks will need to be updated or removed. If you are having any kind of problem and you've just patched or installed a new EP, remove all your custom content and delete your cache files (http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files). Then, unless the problem is specific to one sim or lot, make a new town and see if the issue occurs there too.

If, having done so, the issue is fixed, then you have some incompatible CC. Any hacks - things which change the game's behaviour - are likely suspects and should be updated or removed; things like objects, clothes, hairs etc are generally safe.

Did you install some new CC after patching? I'd test without those first.
Or you patched but did not update the CC?

Do the FAQ anyway, whichever it is.

Black screen? What OSX version?
Post your system specs:

Did you have a core mod or script mod that requires special handling when removing it?

What OSX version? Tiger? Snow Leopard? 10.6.?

Snow Leopard 10.6.8 -- I don't even know what a core mod or mod script is or how I would have installed one...

Here's a screenshot of the error I get when the game crashes.

Could you use Edit when you need to add more info, please?

Sounds like you have the same issue as others in this thread Exception Raised, Debug Error. Doesn't seem as though there is a solution yet; even a full reinstall didn't help. Though that helped some, but not everyone. So, no idea what the root cause is.
