View Full Version : Confessions of a CC Addict on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

No, I'm not really on the verge of a nervous breakdown but now that I have your attention I have a confession to make. When I woke up from my beauty sleep this morning I told myself that I would make some changes in my life and I did.
I deleted my 101 MB Default Replacement Clothing folder. The fabulous shirts, the jeans, the sexy underwear. All gone. It's back to fugly chic and EA defaults. :| I did it because I felt guilty for having a 101 MB subfolder in my Downloads folder, just sitting there collecting pixel dust. And that's just default replacement clothing. I'm not even counting the mods and build/buy items.
On the bright side, I still have H&M and I am thinking of getting more stuff packs for clothes (Teen Style Stuff does have adult clothing, right?) to fill this empty hole inside me. And my sims' closets.
If you have a confession to make, feel free to share. This is a safe space. :)

My confession is ( I think or maybe this have happen to others as well ) from years of playing my Sims ( too much ) I think at one time or another that my mind did cross over into the "Twilight Zone. " Thinking my Sims really existed and their neighborhoods.
Had to "Slap" :faceslap: my face and wake up to the fact hey this is only a game not your relatives or neighbors. I Play the Sims so much that to me they was "Real" now how crazy is that ? Hm, I have only one confession to make, sometimes the game is played cruelly by me, and then I feel horribly guilty :( It's stupid, isn't it? After all, it's a game, and sims aren't real people. But when something bad happens to a sim, I feel guilty anyway. It doesn't feel like a real person died, but it feels somewhat as if I killed a kitten.
Last bad thing happened a few days ago, and I still can't get over it! Stupid. I guess my hood became designed to let bad things happen, because they all happen for story reasons. If that didn't happen, I'd be forced to assume that a particular sim had a lobotomy or something. She needed milk from cowplant, so she absolutely had to resurrect a sim who died in front of her as a zombie by Vivicus Zombie. And then she absolutely had to kill her :(. But I feel so guilty! I really liked that sim who got zombified and killed, she derserved to live on, at least as a zombie (besides, she was happy to become a zombie, to my surprise, her memory said "I'm ecstatic"). But a witch sim has no reason at all to resurrect her again, it would be out of character :(. So now I'm stuck feeling guilty, just because I can't find any means to resurrect her without ruining the hood story and characters.

I confess that after so many years of having just under 500 mb of downloads, I've now got about 2.1 gigs of it!
That's just in my 'downloads' folder alone-not counting the floors, terrains, lots, and walls that are outside the downloads folder.
I should be ashamed of myself..but I'm not!
My sims have a huge CC problem: me!
Another confession: I can't leave well enough alone with new lots that I've downloaded from a site-if a lot appeals to me, I will completely remake it-tearing down entire floors and reworking it to please me. Sometimes it doesn't even look like the original after I get through with it. I feel guilty at undoing all the hard work of other creators-but the lots often play better with my changes.

Oh, thank God I'm not the only one. I had a long dream the other night wherein I was one of my current favorite Sims. It was way too freaky...
As far as CC confessions: I confess that I have almost 3 GB, just of stuff that I've made, not counting the stuff that other people made, and most of it is NOT large files like hair can be, since I don't do BodyShop stuff. It's not all always in my game, mind you, but I have it. Those of you who download my stuff should be very, VERY afraid.

I don't regard dreaming about sims as a problem, as we will all dream about the things we do repeatedly. I dream about mixed sim/human interactions and about things happening to sims I am not intensely involved with. For instance, a dormie I recruited into the frat to make numbers who performs secondary-character functions in the lives of two different sets of sims featured in one the other night, turning invisible and walking around as an empty suit of clothes. This seems to me normal and healthy.

@ Octavia you think a day is bad lemme tell u something.
I only play the maxis hoods. Just this week i deleted, then reimported original backup hoods of all 6 at Least 5 times that day after about an hour each. I can't for the life of me get focused.
My confession is that even with the megahood I can't settle with playing. No matter what family I'm playing I want to be playing a different one for fear that I'll never get to try them out. Which is true enough I've never gotten to touch some of them and NONE of them have ever gotten past even one full generation before I restart.

Oh, I know what you mean about not being able to settle down in the game! I'm constantly changing the landscape, houses, etc-and not playing the game. Then I'll get tired of the hood, dump/save it for posterity and get another saved hood in, then repeat.
It gets tedious. I wonder if this is a form of ADHD? Never being able to actually focus on the game long enough to play it past one generation?

I do have one more "Confession" that I almost completely forgot about, hum, should I ? oh well I may as well say it since I am cleaning my Simmer soul in confessions.
When I first started playing Sims 2 ( in 2006 ) and enter the Pleasantview neighborhood, and check out all the households just to see who was in each lot.
When I went into "Don Lothario" lot for the first time I was so fascinated by his appearance, ( I love a male with facial hair very manly ) as time pass and I learn the in and out of the game. I made my Sims self so that I could be with Don Lothario in the game. I think it was during that period of time that I began to first cross over into the twightlight zone, of complete Sims craziness. lmao  That It No More Confessions.

I confess that I don't play the game. Oh, I download content- especially if it's something that I was thinking of making myself. But I don't play it. Nope. I have one lot with a sim and the only thing she ever gets to do is test my stuffs. :( In my defense, I DO try. I'll load up the game to test something and keep playing for a bit. But sooner than later, I'm exiting the game and going back to MilkShape, SimPE, whatever program I need. And I DO like to build and decorate.. on a simless lot. That counts, right?!?

I confess that when I first got TS2, I thought it was so much like a hoax with all the weird stuff going on, sims just made, burning up the whole family the moment they move into a lot from CAS, as!wipe kids that wouldn't do their homework because school had totally wiped them out. Most of the sims didn't seem to want to ever do anything without whining and fighting and trapping themselves in the bathroom. Most of the households I tried to watch before trying to play them - watching is scary. The sims could now do stuff more autonomously, yes. The graphics better, yes. The sims smarter, hell NO!
I thought the game was supposed to be a life simulation, not a crazy simulation.
TS2 seemed more like "your life after taking/snorting/smoking/shooting up very bad or tainted drugs" type of hoax.
Being the very untrusting type of person that I am, I confess that I suspected that all the craziness was to distract me from the game's REAL purpose, which was some kind of psychological experiment and that the game was somehow scoring and watching and recording my reactions and reporting them to some entity online. I honestly was compelled to watch my DSL modem lights all the time when the game was running because I was so sure that something was going on. It made me feel like a lab rat in a cage.
So, here I was feeling disgusted by the game and paranoid and then, one of the sims turns and looks at me as if to say, "Private eyes, we're watching you!"

Edit: Sorry, are these confessions of a CC addict? In that case, I confess that my downloads folder scares me. It has almost 18,000 files, and my evil doppelganger won't let me delete any of them.
I just wanted to purge the damn folder, even had it scanned with SimPe for health and mesh/recolor issues. Seems that SimPe conspires with my evil doppelganger, claiming that there's nothing wrong with my CC.
This is why I ran to MTS - I couldn't bear to start the game and wait forever till it loads.

So how long you got, Father Sim? :!!:
I confess that in the five years since I started playing, I have created hundreds of neighbourhoods, and only two have survived past the loading screen.
I confess that the first version of one of those two hoods was utterly destroyed by my then-newbie cluelessness, including mixing incompatible mods (out-of-date ones included), fiddling around with boolprop, and playing on a slow slow Mac OS X named Terry so I couldn't run the patches. Eventually I had to relocate to the family computer downstairs that I have to share with my brother. :faceslap:
(As a side note, yes I do name my computers, and - coincidentally fitting into the 'confessions' theme here, I refer to the one I play on now as 'Digidevil' because the first time we scanned it for corrupt files, there were exactly 666 errors..)
I confess that I have hardly played in the last year due to many failed attempts to learn to make my own CC so I can get my game to look exactly the way I wanted. I'm only now starting to get back to playing.
I also confess that not playing has caused several nervous breakdowns.
I confess that I once went to my high school costume party in casual clothes with a cardboard plumbob strapped to my head.
I confess that on my birthday this year, at 5:59PM, I glanced at the clock and immediately thought 'Oh no! I'm going to age in a minute!'
And that I have - more than once - accidentally switched channels on the TV by pressing 3 on the remote to try and speed up the ads.
I confess that I carry four chunky ring binders full of Sim-related stuff with me when I'm playing. Four.
I confess that I get so attached to my Sims that when Sena, founder of my oldest hood, died, I couldn't listen to the song that was playing on her stereo at the time for the next three years.
Need I go on?

I went on a custom content download binge yesterday.
I don't know why. I guess I got sad thinking about how fan created sims sites eventually die, and I thought "who wants good game performance anyway? I have to SECURELY STORE all this stuff before it DISAPPEARS from the web!"
Oh well, it could have been worse. At least I've dumped everything on an aptly named folder ("Unnecesary download binge") so I know what to delete if I feel guilty. But hey, I got some cool, "necessary" stuff too. So it was sort of worth it.

I confess that I've never played a family long enough to get to the next generation. I only play each family for a few Sim days and then I go on making a new family. I might revisit old families from time to time and play a few more Sim days but never long enough to see them age.
I enjoy the creation of a family and the building and decorating of a house way more than playing the game itself.
Oh and I have 15,796 custom objects in my Downloads folder. That's 5.96 GB. And yes I always play with all of it. Sure, it takes about 10-15 minutes to start up the game but I can never decide what stuff to be without so I just go with it.

Because I might just want to reinstall it one day, so I need the content just in case! ;) The only reason I don't have Sims original and TS2 still installed is lack of time, I had a new hard drive and haven't reinstalled them yet. But I will!

Yeah, TS1 was fun. I'm totally sentimental about it. Still remember with nostalgia when Unleashed first got out, and I discovered that there are critters ruining my cat lady's garden. Of course, she had all those cats that hunted them down.
TS2 Pets gave us cats, but alas no mice. I don't really see a point in having a cat if that cat has nothing to hunt! I expected the mice and moles to spawn in tomatoes when Seasons came out, but no such luck. Poor kitties. Contrary to popular belief, cats are creatures that enjoy being useful to their humans/Sims.
Imagine how cool it would have been if there were mice in TS2, and then cats catching them and giving them as gifts to their owners, and then those lucky Sims stocking their fridges with them. Oh joy!
So I must confess: there *are* some things I don't like about TS2, the lack of aforementioned mice being just one among them.
There it is. I said it. I won't say it again.
I think I'm going to have to delete this post eventually. I can't believe I just confessed something like *that*...
And TS3 still sucks!
Peni Griffin
3rd Aug 2011, 07:16 PM
The trouble with the mice was, you only got them if you had cats. And the mouse corpses would draw bugs, which turned into mice, so unless you were obsessive about noticing and cleaning up every time your cat hunted (and they could leave those mouse heads in some pretty hard-to-see places), you were soon overrun and had to get a second cat and the maid just to have any hope of keeping up. Whereas the catless slob next door would have roaches everywhere and never a sign of mouse.
I agree they should have given us mice and gophers and bunnyrabbits, as long as they didn't do them exactly the same way. If mice showed up in messy houses and you could get rid of them with the exterminator or setting traps, but stray cats would hunt them if encouraged - well, that'd be a great way to adopt a stray cat, wouldn't it? It's always been way too hard to adopt strays, IMHO. It's the easiest thing in the world IRL. I have to make repeated will saves to keep from doing it two or three times a year.

So I thought I was doing pretty good having not downloaded but a few things the past few weeks. After revamping my downloads folder and snagging a bunch of default replacements for most the clothes and hair in the Maxis catalog I felt that I was pretty happy with what I had and wasn't looking to download too much more. Famous last words as I then discovered this thread: http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=23645.0.
Now of course I have to decide what to give up in order to download a bunch of this stuff since I'm pretty much at my folder maximum limit. I really am a CC addict.

Famous last words as I then discovered this thread: http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=23645.0.
Dammit. I just had to go look!

IRT
My confession is that I often download entire living room, bedroom, kitchen sets just for the small 1 or 2 clutter items. I trash the rest of the furniture. I wish creators would offer stuff in single files more often.

Man does that make me feel better. My paltry 3.98GB is nothing in comparison.
Dammit. I just had to go look!----
Heh heh heh, that was my evil plan so I wouldn't be alone in my CC addiction. :D

Why did this thread turn into a "Brag about how much CC I have" thread? Don't we already have a thread for that? (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=334968)

Oh, I'm gonna brag! Just yesterday I deleted more than 20 clothes recolors from my game! I'm on my way to recovery! I think I should be handed a merit badge for this. Like they do in AA clubs.
Funny, I spent hours deciding what to delete, when the whole point was to save on loading times, and that only takes about 10 minutes in my game. And the puny number of actual deletes... No merit badge for me, I guess.
But here's a llama :llama: as a consolation prize. At least I haven't downloaded one of those. Never. I swear. Not yet anyway. And I won't!
PS. Does uber-megahood count as CC? Because I haven't - nor will I ever! - download *that*!
What are you looking at?! :wtf:

5.36 GB with 17,756 files..yikes. My game takes five minutes to load. It's so nice to have a super fast PC. My last PC had that many and took like 20 minutes to load.

Because people like bragging about their download addictions, Mootilda.
To get back to the juicy confessions:
Even though I am dedicated to one-day rotations and have good solid reasons for it and will never change, when it's time to leave certain households I keep finding excuses not to get out of the house. I can have the Munny home on pause and saved a long, long time as I go around checking this and looking at that and periodically coming back around to Ernest and Sage Ann snuggled up in bed with those relaxed smiles on their faces...I'm like a parent who can't stop tucking the kids in.
I did type in the most embarrassing sims confession ever - and then I deleted it. Some things y'all don't really want to know.

Naw; now you'd be disappointed if I told you! 'Cause once you've wondered: "Okay, what would be so embarrassing that a person who brags about the amorous prowess of her elders decides not to air it to the world?" you'll start thinking of wilder things than would ever occur to me. And other people's embarrassments generally look silly and trivial, don't you find?
