Okay so I was building a custom town on a custom terrain http://genensims.com/guest/MadameMim/neighbourhoodsS1.htm
When all of a sudden it just exits itself out of the game w/o saving mind you and disappears leaving me to restart it completely. could it be the terrain im using? i haven't had this issue before. If it is the terrain then where can I find safe terrain to use that won't do that to my game that has a layout like that one?

Try taking the terrain out first and loading your game. If it stops crashing then yes that's your problem.
With most CC it's just trial and error.

Mim's stuff is usually reliable - I'd be surprised if it's that.

dwn2ridehtchck1- were you doing a lot in between saves? It could be that your game ran out of memory. Try saving more often when building or creating a neighbourhood.

And it never hurts to backup occasionally while you're playing.
If the game just quits on you, your machine may not be up to the task. This is not standard behavior and may be an indication of a serious problem. If you run the game on a machine which can't handle it, you could be doing irreparable cumulative damage to your computer.
Does your computer meet or exceed the requirements? Are you at the high or low end of what's required?

Could you be overheating?

Hey, I had a blouse, of all things, from a respectable and much-used site bork my ability to use the photobooth for its intended purpose! Anything can get corrupted during the download and have unpredictable affects on your particular system; especially if you have some kind of iffy local condition.
