About a week ago, I was playing one lot which was working fine, then saved and shut down the game, shut down my laptop and went to bed. The following day, I loaded the game and went into the next lot in that hood's rotation, only to find that I couldn't use the pie menus because they either disappeared immediately or stayed up for no more than a second.
I originally put it down to a glitch in that particular lot, so I loaded a completely different neighbourhood. On finding that it was happening there as well, I turned to the MTS Game Help pages. After discovering that it was still happening even with completely fresh user files, I was stumped. I'd patched my game some time ago, so I didn't see the necessity of going through that page.
Digging through the FAQs, I found the page relating to my specific problem - this one (http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Vanishing_Menus#Drivers), and after noticing that my particular laptop model had had issues like mine before, I went to the linked website (UK equivalent) and reinstalled my touchpad driver.
Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem, so I then went through all the other suggestions there. I've altered the mouse settings, tried plugging in a USB mouse (which disabled the pad) and created a new user account. None of these other options were successful either.
After hearing about the issue, one of my friends suggested I try System Restore, but I kept getting the "Restore Failed" message due to "no changes have been made", even going right back to the earliest restore point available.
I don't really want to have to reinstall the game if it's not necessary, so any other suggestions I could try would be much appreciated.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop running Windows XP with:
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
RAM: 2GB (1918MB actual)
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150, 256MB, Driver version 6.14.0010.6648 (English).

EDIT: After my laptop glitched when I shut down last time (appeared to restart despite me not telling it to), my game seems to be working fine again. :)
