Is it possible for you to alter the buttons system? If yes, could you remove the agree/disagree buttons from picture threads? Not only are they unnecessary but also annoying. It's not only about me but I hate when I look at peoples' pictures and some morons decide to spoil the fun to click the button even when there's no comment, just a picture.

Nope. The buttons are intentionally site-wide and I'd much rather have people occasionally clicking "disagree" to show their dislike for something rather than saying "this sim sucks" instead. If you don't like them, just ignore them - don't look at 'em, or if you see disagrees or something on someone's post that you think had a malicious intent, why not compliment the picture's owner.

Yes, but posting 'this sim sucks' shows' is not anonymous. There is no point in having the agree/disagree button in the picture threads. If they're so site-wide, why there is a 'unhelpful' button in the Help section but not in the others?

Seems to be an unhelpful button here too :) I just tested it on your post.

I agree, Wojtek. There's no shortage of morons here, there or anywhere. However, a lot of the "disagreeing" in picture threads is likely either random or spiteful, and can therefore be overlooked. I suppose I'd rather assume it's random than be personally attacked by that user. Then again, it stands to reason that because it's anonymous, it may encourage more people to be contrary just for the heck of it.
So I guess I'm a bit neutral on this. I can see why they're there, but I'd be happy if they were removed, as well.

But a person will think twice before attacking someone because everyone will see his or her profile. There are no reasons for agree/disagree buttons to be present in picture threads. I've seen many posts where people were complaining about the abusing of a 'disagree' button in the middle of a picture thread and they were really upset. We don't need it in picture threads because it creates unneeded tension and discomfort among the people who upload pictures. I think both watching the beautiful pictures and positive feedback is more fun. :)
@leeester: It was only for testing purposes I assume :):):)

Constructive criticism is useful too, if the creator asks for it. Can't do that with a "disagree" button.

My attitude toward the buttons is the same as my attitude toward all other opinion polls, top 10 lists, top 100 lists, and "Best of the" ( year/decade/century/all time) lists. It is an interesting reflection about other people, but it doesn't change anything. There is an old saying which roughly translates to "There is no right or wrong in matters of taste." If you like something and everyone else hates it, you are just different. Different is good. Nobody is ever exactly the same as anyone else anyway. People are going to click disagree because they don't like the post, because they don't like the one who made the post, or just because they were in a bad mood that day or saw so many "disagree"s that they wanted to add another one. If you worry too much about pleasing everybody, you won't please anybody and you will lose yourself in the process. A few "disagree"s mean nothing if nobody has made a post to explain what is wrong, especially if there are more "agree"s than "disagree"s.
And if you see a "disagree" on something that you like, you are quite free to click "agree" to balance it out.
Edit: The button doesn't prevent you from making a post for constructive criticism, but it does weed out some of the ones who think that "I hate this sim, but I can't tell you why" is helpful.

Long time Simmer, long time member chiming in here:
While it is important to disagree if we want to, I don't understand WHY people use it on subjective threads like "Female Sims."
What exactly are they disagreeing with? It's not 'most beautiful Sims' but rather, "Female Sims."
I have had people disagree with my simply having a sim in a family thread with her child. What is that about? Maybe she was *fat* and people didn't like that or my walls were down or something when I snapped a photo.
Made me feel like, okay, my sim must suck. Or that person who hit disagree is a moron with nothing better to do. Maybe I will take my simmies and post them on my facebook instead (which I do).
If I see what I think is spiteful and stupid 'disagreeing' I will make sure I hit LOVE or AGREE to negate the 'disagree button.' (again this is all silliness).
I agree if there was some way to see WHO is disagreeing, that would cut out a lot of 'spiteful' votes.
I think the whole voting thing smacks of "The Exchange." LOL...sorry. You guys run this site the way you see fit. I'm just putting in my 2 cents.

(Hi! We haven't crossed paths in a while.)
It's a subjective button, along with all the other ones. Why wouldn't it be used in a subjective thread? And yes, the whole thing has ended up being rather silly in most of the places where it is used. But it also makes it a lot easier to ignore "I hate this sim/post/ whatever" if it's just a number at the bottom of the post. I haven't seen any "most popular post" contest announced, and I would hope it never happens. So Agree, disagree, love, etc. are basically pointless other than to give people a way to respond when they have nothing much more to say. Are you really going to worry about what someone who can't think of anything to say thinks about your sims, whether it was "agree" or "disagree"?

And the agree/disagree button in picture threads only prove that people don't assess the picture but a poster. If those buttons are pointless, why the hell where they introduced? If there are no buttons under comments, why is it such a big deal to remove those two from sims creativity section where they are redundant? Moderators are ignorant because it was me who started a thread and if it were someone else they would react. I think I got used to being ignored here by the moderators.

Just because we disagree with your opinion and say, "Nope, sorry, not gonna do that," doesn't mean we're ignorant or ignoring you. It simply means that we disagree and aren't going to do it the way you want just because you want it. We do take into account other opinions, but there were a lot more directly nasty comments on pictures threads before the buttons were introduced.
We may, at some point, enable a feature so you can disable the buttons yourself - that is, you won't be able to see particular buttons but they'll still be there for everybody else. But that requires Delphy to have programming time, so it won't be immediate.

For what it's worth, I don't think people should be able to disagree with people's pictures either. I'll just haul the post I made about it (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3663410#post3663410) over here:
"Not that the stupid buttons mean a whole lot, but I don't think "Disagree" should be allowed to be pressed in the Creativity section. Personally, I'm not looking for any form of a critique when posting pictures of my game. If someone knows the rule that if they have nothing nice to say, they should say nothing at all, and wouldn't respond to your pics by saying, "That's an ugly Sim!", or "Ugly house!" - then they shouldn't be rude enough to "disagree" with your pictures either. All it does is make people think twice about posting their pictures. "

I'm almost embarrassed to say this but I like the buttons and use them all the time. And I especially like when people click the buttons for my posts. I appreciate the positive votes more, of course, but I like the negative votes as well. Sometimes my posts don't come across the way I intended them so the disagree button is useful there too--if I'm sounding like a douche bag I want to know! :p
Just thought I'd stick up for the much maligned "what are we in high school" buttons since I like them and would miss them if they were taken away. :)

Everyone keeps repeating that a person would think twice before posting a negative comment because posting replies is not anonymous. If a person really doesn't like a picture he/she would not only click the button and scroll down but would think about how to express his or her thoughts in a polite way. Those buttons are for lazy people who don't want to think and have nothing nice to say. Others disagree with pictures to express that they don't like a particular member. It can be done and it would be a better way only to see positive feedback in picture thread and people would be more cautious when judging other peoples' pictures.

Did you read the whole reply you quoted Wojtek? The bit where HP says she will ask Delphy about it but it will take time?
I understand you (and others) don't like the buttons - but there are people who do. I would rather be able to see a quick overview of response to my post in the buttons and if someone wants to say more they can. I realise that the buttons allows "cowardly" actions. I don't just click disagree. If I don't like a member I tell them so. I don't go around the site clicking disagree on their posts like a sad little person. And when I see that someone has been childish enough to just click disagree on a picture or other thing where the disagree button is not maybe the appropriate thing I don't think oh well thats a rubbish picture - or oh no I am a rubbish creator - I think tsk, some sad little person has clicked disagree. What a shame. And move on.
Have some patience.
ETA: I do not mean that clicking disagree is never appropriate - sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

What HP suggested is not what should be done. The presence of those two buttons results in rants in the middle of picture threads with people being upset and discouraged to post their pictures only because some bastards are either mean or jealous and spoil the fun. How many times have i seen people why were so frustrated that they decided to remove their pictures and feel discouraged to post again.

Wojtek - there is no SHOULD here. There is what you are requesting and what MTS are willing to do. If people are frustrated and discouraged then that is sad - but that is the way the world is - its not all sugar cakes and rainbows.

What -will- be done is eventually, when Delphy has the time, we'll get an added feature that anyone who does not wish to see certain buttons can visit their user options and disable whichever buttons they choose to not view personally - so if you don't want to see disagrees, you can untick "disagree" and not see the button anymore, anywhere, but everyone else can still view them and click them unless they also turn them off. Anyone else who does like the buttons is welcome to keep whichever ones they choose, and those who don't like them will be able to turn them off. You are welcome to disagree with this - there's even a button you can click for it. But many folks do like the buttons - not just staff but others, including some who have posted in this thread to that effect - so they're not going to be removed entirely.
