I have received Bon Voyage for Christmas, and can't install it. I have the CD version (2 disks), and am using Windows XP.
Game installs, then checks installation, says it didn't install correctly, and uninstalls. Have tried this five or six times. Have cleaned disks (several times, using method suggested on the Wiki faq). Doesn't help. Have tried copying the CDs' files to desktop - doesn't work. (Works for Disk 1; can't make it load Disk 2.)
Am I going to have to get a replacement disk, or is there anything else I can try?

When you say that you "can't make it load Disk 2", are you saying that the CD drive will not recognize the disk, or are you saying that you can copy the files to your hard drive without any problem, but when you try to install, it won't accept the path to the second disk?

The disk drive recognizes the disk, and I can copy its files to the hard drive. But when I try to install from the autorun for Disk 1, it gets about halfway, demands Disk 2, and I can't get it to progress any further. Do I then insert Disk 2? Is there something I need to double-click in the "Disk 2" folder? Is there something else I'm not doing?

When you copied the disks, did you copy them into two separate folders? What happens if you copy them into the same folder?

I copied them into different folders. I didn't think of the other; I'll try that.

Well, I followed the instructions from here at MTS this time (rather than EA's); and noticed that they said it was important they should be called "Disk1" etc. (which EA didn't bother to mention); so I tried it that way.
And it installed. And it said the installation was incorrect, so it uninstalled. Which is exactly what happened with the disks.
Do I need to uninstall Sims 2 and reinstall everything? Because in that case, I'm not going to bother. The next time it needs a reinstall, I guess I'll try BV. Or do I just need a replacement disk?
Frankly, I am very frustrated.

I don't suppose that you could try the install on a friend's machine, just to see whether it occurs there as well?
It's possible that you need a replacement disk; it's just difficult to tell exactly what the problem is.

Unfortunately, I don't know anybody locally who plays Sims 2!
Yeah, it's really hard to pin down.
Thanks for your help!

Well, I did an uninstall, and am doing a reinstall - and my University disks are doing this, too.
Which reminds me that the University expansion has always been very hard for me to install, and does this; but I have successfully installed it in the past, by cleaning the heck out of it. (Thank goodness I have a plentiful supply of eyeglass cleaner and shammy cloths!)
So I think this BV issue is indeed a "disk isn't clean enough" issue.
ETA: Now Nightlife won't install! Gah.
