A lot needs to be placed on an empty lot that is the same size or larger than the build. You also need to make sure it is zoned correctly, either Residential or Community, depending on the lot type you are placing.

If you are doing this and have a more specific problem then you need to elaborate a bit more.

I hate that you can't place empty lots wherever you want or change lot sizes. I also don't like the way the beautiful vista tag is not controllable by the player -- AND if you bulldoze a lot with a beautiful vista, the bonus vanishes and there is no way to get it back (as far as I can tell) The view doesn't vanish just because the house does.

The view doesn't vanish, it's just sims that don't notice it anymore. Personally, I don't miss it that much. No one notices a beautiful view over and over again, and then sometimes the purpose and look of the lot doesn't match the beautiful view thingy. Just annoying.
What annoys me most is that I have to first zone a lot and only afterwards I can place on it a lot from the bin. And custom hoods that have lots of empty land coloured to look like fieds of crops but you can't place lots on them.

my english is bad but Kewpie and Croco just told what I was thinking with my question... with TS2 we could place anywhere the lot than zone it.

I do. I work in a building with views overlooking the ocean, and it never fails to uplift me on a sunny day or give me the shivers when it's storming. When I travel, I book a room as high up in a hotel as I can, so I get sweeping views of the city I'm in.

Now, if the buff doesn't match the vista, then the worldbuilder either made an error or disagrees with you re: what constitutes a beautiful vista.

I agree with the OP in that lot placement in this game is kind of whacky. Issues I've noticed with lot placement:

- inability to place a new lot on a previously bulldozed lot (doesn't happen in all cases)
- the game is inconsistent when it comes to snapping a lot to the street and involves, in my experience anyway, a lot of trial and error in getting the lot as close to the road as possible without getting that error message
- sometimes, after placing a pre-built lot on an empty one, the lot will be sunken into the ground and create routing issues as well as major aesthetic issues
- errors about lots being placed on other lots when this clearly isn't the case

Anyway, it was bound to have issues since TS3 worlds are much more detailed and less flat than they were in the Sims 2. Of course, many custom worlds I've seen take care of this issue by making much of the map completely flat for more lot-friendly placement.

So, sometimes you get the beautiful vista and sometimes you get the shivers. Just like I said. Besides most people don't really have time to stop and admire nature every day. Anyway, my real problem is that no matter how crappy I design the lot, the sims still get the beautiful vista, even when inside their crappy house.

Small correction: uplifting = beautiful vista. Shivers also equals beautiful vista (a stormy ocean is an awe-inspiring site). Mostly, though, I would recommend against speaking on behalf of all or most people. You don't admire nature or a stunning urban view, so the beautiful vista buff makes no sense to you. Perfectly understandable.

my real problem is that no matter how crappy I design the lot, the sims still get the beautiful vista, even when inside their crappy house.

That doesn't seem like a problem, since you know you can kill it by bulldozing before you build, if you're concerned the lot is seeded with the buff.

He said the beautiful vista tag, not the view. In my experience the buff isn't caused by a view but by the beautiful vista object that is hidden somewhere on the lot. Bulldozing a lot does indeed remove that tag.

Just because you have a good view to something doesn't mean that the view is beautiful. You might actually be viewing the slums in all their splendour (and in some cases, just a bunch of rooftops covered in antennas). But then again, different people find beauty in different places.

I agree with Justin. Also, I hate it that sometimes you can buldoze a lot and the game will not allow you to place a smaller lot right on that space. In the western town (I can't remember the name of the town off hand) I moved the pet park that was near the square out and wanted to make two smaller lots there for lofts. The two lots i wanted to place together were smaller that the lot I removed, but when I tried I received the "cannot place on non-roundable surface". Now wait a minute - I just bulldozed a lot here! GRRRRR!

There used to be a mod that would allow you to apply the beautiful vista buff and the park, etc. When the 1st or 2cd EP came out, it was never updated. I wish someone would do that mod again.
